Queens Gauntlet is the most fun

The gauntlet is a poorly tested terrible mess of cheap gimmicks with the only purpose of being a giant gold sink. That’s all. And that’s also the reason why they were so quick on “fixing” subject 7, but the camera is still terrible and the orbs still bugged.
Hoping that an orb won’t respawn on the other side of the room cause you can’t hit it with your ranged weapon isn’t skill, it is just luck. And you have to rely on it.
It is just frustrating. I will be relieved when i’ll have finished it only because i won’t ever, ever have to do it anymore. There is no fun here.

There is lots of fun to be found, but it’s hard to find it when you see red.

Why are you complaining about Liadri? The key element in this fight is movement/endurance. Set your traits accordingly and you’ll do just fine. This may very well be the only real challenge they’ve added for a good while (if not the only). It took me about 30 tries with tweaking, and it feels good finally being able to nail it.

Dont put the blame on Anet, look in the mirror.

This is subjective, but I see a lot of common thoughts that there arnt that many good looking dagger skins. Moving on to legendary, incinerator is beautiful, but it’s a set theme that many not always fit your class and outfit.
Im really curious what they have in store for future legendary dagger skin. For instance, it would be wicked to see a dagger with some short of deathshroud animations, fitting for necros or thieves or those with darker outfits.

Short backstory: We’re 2 guys that played tpvp from launch with a total of 6 players in the team Sinstorm. Unfortunately we took a break roughly after 2 months, but came back for a month ago. Our background from previous MMOs have always been focus on competitive PvP and the constant strive in improving our playstyle. It would be great to share this experience with likeminded and once again progress as a team. If this is something you could relate to then you may very well be what Sinstorm needs.
- The two of us are at Piken Square for the time being, but we are willing to server transfer if it will be necessary to fill the ranks.

Our requirements and guidelines:

- Currently open for 3 that can play/master more than 1 class, such as elementalist, necromancer, engineer, ranger or guardian. It is expected that each individual have a good understanding of each class and their mechanic.
- You’ll need a working microphone and be able to speak english. Young minds are welcome, but also be able to act as a grown up.
- The tpvp play sessions is estimated to be within the timeline 19.00-23.00 GMT +1. We’re open for tweaking this and the set days.

If this is of any interest to you then we would appreciate to have a closer chat! You can reach us ingame on “Balerion.2710” or “nacario.9417”.

Guardian Healing... Pacepalm

in Guardian

Look at it this way, you have boons that offer unique mechanics to combat, and skills to prevent/absorb damage. Even your elite skill (defensive book) has a raw heal (number 5).
There is a very noticable difference when you run a dungeon with a support/healing guardian and when there isnt one present. You wont see the big flashy numbers, but all these small feats make up for something big. Just look at all the defensive and supportive tools you have, none of the other classes (with all the high stats you point out to miss out on) cannot offer this.

Rookie thief looking for subjective opinions

I’m really liking my P/D condition build. I’m also thinking that it can serve as training wheels for thieves in WvW. Having mostly carrion gear, with a bit of rabid, and mostly defensive stats (0/0/30/20/20), it is very survivable. It also gets you used to landing CnDs in order to survive, but in a much more forgiving build.

I think this sort of build will set a newbie thief up for using a D/D, backstab build without having to die a lot. On the other hand, it requires completely different gear…so if you want to get right in with those backstabs, I’d follow others’ advice.

Do you know of any newer links to vids showcasing this? Switching gear is to me a bit extreme, would be nice to see actual footage of it. Other than that I find my setup in that vid more than viable, I just need to work on my own skill.

The sneakthief is obviously squishy, however you can pull off some viable dps with dd / pp. It all depends if you master the “know how” dodge/ inc dmg avoidance, which you already knew. As for group support aside from damage, it’s pretty much stealth. Is stealth as useful as for example boons a guardian provide during his dps? Thief may be in a tighter spot during fights, but inbetween we can make it easier to skip packs of mobs. Many tend to run with defensive trait specs, I dont mind this as long as theyre zerker (which quite a few are), which makes up for dmg loss from trait specs.

Good Thief vs Good D/D or Scepter Ele?

in Thief

Posted by: nacario.9417

nacario.9417

I’ve played D/D ele for a while and I’m now playing a thief. It varies how you’ll find the D/D a challange based on how his traits/gear are set up. As Simplicity is touching, the D/D’s upkeep is by rolling through his rotations, in many cases due to the healing signet that gives healing on skills used. Ele’s pretty much need 30 in Arcana, which gives them only 5 sec cd on attunement swap, which further means they can stance dance and spam. Since OP cant make an ele and test in the mist, go to a calculator site and see the traits/skills. Learn every skill each attunement offers as itll give a good idea what to expect in x situation. For instance, when in fire, expect burst to inc, air may bring blind/kd’s, water healing/cond removal.
A D/D with 30 in arcana and somewhat high in water or earth should prove a challange to you, but I really advise you to read up on how the ele work since it has 20 skills to utilize vs another class’ 10 (weapon slot).

[Feedback] In-Combat stealth

Stealth will always be overpowered as it is a mechanic the victim cant forsee. I havent read through all the posts in here, but I’ll just remind you that the thief is balanced around stealth. One would have to rebalance the class to make it viable, perhaps with more active evasion. On the other hand, I really enjoy stealth and wished they’d keep it like that. I do understand the pointers with resets in mid-combat, but this “frustration” isnt necc a factor in x setting or vs x class in PvP. I have a guardian that can hold his own vs sneakthieves.

@OP

I understand what you mean. At the same time Im reminding you that GW2 isnt perfect, we live in a total new era than UO years where people now expect more. I for instance dont understand why there arnt multi-trait specs that you can save for different situation.
Without the constant negativity or feedback, devs wont always be on their toes. And as you said, you’re 41 years old, the youngsters might not be into what old grams prefer. That is the beauty of it, we all want different things, but it is hard to fulfill every heart. GW2 is indeed the better MMORPG out there, but keeping it like that is a constant adventure in todays market.

Im levling a thief to 80 with the thought of maybe making it my main. Normally I would focus strictly on PvP, but GW2 have kept my eyes open for PvE as well. Hopefully the aim would be WvW / tpvp on the long run, but with a mix of all.

My concern for the thief class is that I am forced to play with specific weapons in order to compete? I understand that this can be somewhat found in other classes too, but thief is squishy and excel in being offensive. I hope this broad question raises disagreement. For instance during levling I’ve found love with D/D or D/P, which I hope to use in PvP. If I were to go either of these, would the mechanics severerly hinder me vs certain type of geared/traited classes? Or would it be the opposite as long as I went for the right gear / trait?

And with this/these weapon choices in mind, which exotic set would I be best off with as an allrounder? Lets say for spike damage. How would my effectiveness be vs x class gear/trait. Obviously I cant beat everyone, I just seek insight if there are cases where I shouldnt have an equal standing 1v1 with my choices, or if there is a point where it is hard to compete due 1v2+.
What is your general take on this as long time playing thieves, with the latest updates in mind?

Thank you for taking time

I dont understand your logic Trav behind “this thread isnt for master thieves, only for the others..”. Who are those others, is it the clueless with lack of insight, that arnt able to criticize your opinions? Clearly these “master thieves” are needed on the forums because it is a place where true insight is shared. You already blew your cover there. And so what if Ele can attunement dance “like no other class”, it’s what makes D/D ele unique, GW2 offers unique playstyles among the classes. For a D/D ele to survive he has to keep using his abilities – and you want to nerf him just because he opposes a thread to your single trait build and class.

We appreciate your effort, but your insight here is mediocre and isnt on par with facts. It’s strange to see you sometimes reply in childish ways, and having to find something to disagree with every single person in this thread that hasnt treated you kindly.

My opinion about what things should change

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nacario.9417

nacario.9417

I agree to the core pointers of OP. Nonetheless what those who disagree thinks, there need to be change with the way they adjust their systems and present content in GW2, otherwise people will get tired. Same reason why people always eventually leave mainstream MMO, because GW2 has post launch gone down certain similiar bumpy roads.

Regarding WvW Im not fully agreeing on. This is a very touchy subject for many as there are those who truly live for it and those who just “tag along”. Surely its siege and defending systems could always be tweaked, but WvW as it is provides a rare mechanic not seen in other MMOs – unique is nice. We must’nt go to the point where we have to criticise everything for it all to make sense.

GW2 has a beautiful world and art style, they nailed combat and class playstyle and variety. This for me is unique, it wants me to stay in GW2 because no one else can offer this. The playstyle of my ele, the attunement dancing is wonderful.
My concerns doesnt favor the hardcore or the casual, but where and how we spend our time in endgame on our 80s.

My main concern for keeping me online and question when logged in on my 80, is grind the way to handle endgame content? Yes Anet, you dont like the word endgame, but the way you’ve been handling system designs can question this. All from fractals or the random X chance to get ticket to get skin from events.
I question this because every single MMO out there provides some sort of grind. Grinding in itself isnt the problem, but the way it is presented is, the tedious content road you have to take. For instance, I find myself at SPvP rank 17 but I just cant seem to find that strenght to push higher ranks, it takes so much time. I spent an hour doing SPvP and for every match I gained roughly 150 to 200 rank points – and where I am now I need 5000 rank points for every rank. I do this to get better skins, but this is painful. Not only because it is time consuming, but we only have 1 game mode (capture the flag). Again, the way I have to grind makes the time factor a stronger factor. Worst of all, the way they handle this content and system design, it brings similiarities to other MMOs (such as PvP grind in Rift), and reminds me of why I left. Does it take hardcore to get the best gearskin, because all I need is time, there is no sense of special achievement, to get the best looking skin. Does it make me a casual for not wanting to do these same instances over and over again, not because I lack skill, but because I see the time spent as frustrating and pointless? Dont get me wrong, the SPvP maps are enjoyable, but not the same gamemode 1000 times, overall it makes me wonder. And because of this I need to spend my time elsewhere, but on what? Farm fractals over and over to slowly gain more ranks?

I understand that we all have split feelings of how an MMO is and should be, and what could have been. I have yet to come across that MMO that tries to open up by providing different ways in achieving the common goal. It’s fun to finally get that epic thing you’ve been chasing, but what if they made that journy fun and meanigful, and not just the end? This is a broad question that could be asked in every type of content GW2 provides, no matter its success or not.

My male sylvari is named Ayroc Wyldmare. Wyld is from the Wyld hunt, while mare is from the nightmare. I like to think of him as a darker hand of Mother, one that wouldn’t neccesairly be accepted among the Sylvari. But Mother understands that he is a needed deed to battle the ways of evil.

D/D Builds??? (Sky Pirates Patch)

in Elementalist

Posted by: nacario.9417

nacario.9417

Im running 0/0/30/10/30 D/D. Full knight armor with healing/vit/power offset. The build is a hybrid, though more towards tank, secondly power and third for healing. It builds around 4 signets and I have 2k tough, 1,6k power, 1,5 prec, 1,6k vit (about 19k hp) and 334 healing. I also have the talent that makes signets active after used. 10 in water provides extra healing and condition removal.

In WvW and PvE I find it quite strong and has enough flexibility to offer a viable group support (though it is more of a solo build). Even in big zergs you have enough defensives to remain at the front.
Very effectrive/forgiving vs thief if you are a newcomer.

The cons would be that D/D relies on having constant pressure/being able to use your skills while you attunement dance (especially for the self healing part). Put enough roots etc and you’ll slow the hulk into certain death. Though in many such situations I am in favor with the earth talent that provides earth shield on 50% hp for a quick get away, or arcane shield at 25%.

Back at launch I suggested this. It was mentioned again for 8 or 9 months ago before I took a break, now recently returned. Dont quote me on this, but I believe there was an official responce on this that it was “in the works”/ being considered.

There are many different playertypes in Tyria and it is naturally in the games best interest to cater “to them all” within reason.
Dueling. This game isnt about 1v1, but through 1v1 experience comes knowledge thatll strenghten many women and men in SPvP.

This feature can be implemented in either The Mist and/or additionally to certain areas in the major cities (like the arena in the black citadel). Such a feature would make the cities even more filled and rich, a real incentive for some to visit old places. We dont need dueling in open world areas.

This isnt about copying other MMORPGs, it’s about implementing something useful and entertaining. Personally this means a lot more than “Living World” content, while for others it is the opposite. For some it’s that tiny little extra that makes you stay in an MMORPG.

Please consider this as for some this is a major deal breaker. Should I have missed important details then please fill us/me in on it. At least for the sake of closure instead of hoping.

Levling tips

in Thief

Posted by: nacario.9417

Recently returned from months absence and I’m now levling a thief. I’ve always had in mind that thief would be harder to level solo than class x, so here I am asking for tips and input on the topic. Aside from this I’ve checked up on basic guides, though none related to levling.

So far I find Shortbow very effective towards most encounters, while I’ve played around with second weapon sets. D/D for instance is bursty, but I find myself wrecked if I dont manage my endurance/dodge timing. Im level 24 atm and I suppose I should aim for gear that has toughness/vitality, instead of going all glass (though unsure how much impact gear has on thief being squishy).
Also, do feel free to point me towards any specific tree or choices in speccing.

I really dont understand the “this game isnt balanced around 1v1”. Do you not get that 1v1 makes you better overall, an easy way to learn class X mechanics and make you better prepared for team fights? In order to succeed in teamplay (spvp), individual skills are more important than being carried by the group – to put it in one way.

nacario.9417

Had to log in to give my vote. While their intentions are good, they do not deliver. But then again, do I expect to much? I am worried becuase the promises so far for 2013 are rather vague.

This is PvP in GW2: You stand in the mist, unable to duel other players, either in front of the SPvP or tPvP vendor and queue up. You queue up for the same few maps with the exact same gametype. I am sick of this repetitiveness, this is GW2, they should do better. They could do better if they just implemented what they learned from GW1.

On top of this, the cloth item makers have done a sub par job in designing PvP gear, you need to get up in fairly high level to be ‘somebody’. This however is subjective.

But hey, at least we dont have monthly subs, so it doesnt hurt that much to wait another year.

Burst/spike damage vs Condition

in Mesmer

Posted by: nacario.9417

nacario.9417

I started playing again after months of absence, whereas I’ve decided to level up a Mesmer. This leaves me with questions for PvP, and I’d be grateful if someone insightful could answer.

The “shatter cat” (thread) way with dual swords looks interesting, while I’ve been running with a 20/0/30/0/20 for leveling aka condition, which has proven quite well for pulling mobs and spreading out conditions such as cripple (a spec that would seem viable in PvP). Perhaps there area “better” condition specs out there. Obviously each way has it’s pros and cons, you can’t beat all the classes just as easily.

Basically how does burst/spike fare vs condition damage? Are condition builds as viable? Feel free to share your build and opinions. This would also make it easier for me to decide wether I should craft the beserker or rampage tailor set.

Thank you
