Ur pretty much stuck with bow imo in this meta. Im using hammer with it, soldier amulett with melandru runes for a lil extra power to get that lil extra dmg for 1v1 as ranked solo is random with who u get on ur side

I would love to know how resource heavy would it be for anet to implement open world dueling, in a controlled way, for instance through options or in an own area lkke crown pavillion or black citadel arena (which gives insentive n reason in visiting old places). A few of my friends have been talking about this and we really dont get why anet cant just tell us if itll be there or not, since they chose to comment on it at release dates nearing 3 yrs ago, i believe it was said somewhere it woild be added but i cant find the quote..

I understand that there r ppl against it but it only is an addition like dungeons for others, which is a core feature for many. We also see newcomers in this game wanting to learn their class more foe wvw through dueling. Having that sweet spot in cities would be something.

To much focus on what damage thief and warrior does compared to each other, remind yourself of what each class has that is unique, and also counting the other 6 classes, not thief vs warr. I would agree the zerker rifle warr being op if he would be as strong single target dmg like with survivability, but it doesnt add up. A thief can shadowstep larger distances with its unique initiative mechanic, stealth features, with ability to dodge more. A rifle warrior cannot do that. But now were just repeating ourselves. Maybe tempest could make this thread in warrior forum, since its not going anywhere here than sheer entertainment.

How long would it take though to get like 30 Points in HoM, fastest way, for someone who never touched the game before

Usually in every class forum there are people who overly dramatize their class, while some points are justified. Currently if you are solely a pve player going for the metas/high end dmg then I wouldnt nec recomend necro, also because it has been in this state for quite some time now (even when the meta usually shifts). Ideally the devs want eahc class to fulfill their roles and be viable, so I would just recommend going for a class that has a playstyle which suits you, and by your description that could be necro. Theres no better thing than mastering a class (as there are different ways to play it depending on traits and weapon sets) and suprise others, so stick with that and you’ll have your fun

Personally I have every class at 80 part from engineer and switch around depending on my mood. That result in me not being super good in every class, but I try to have 1 or 2 as mains to be really good at, while being orientated of what other classes have. This is something the account system makes us easier able to as many Things are account bound so that you can continue your progression no matter the character you play, which could be a good thing for you who are a starter and testing the waters.

I don’t post here at all, but this comment really pushed my buttons. You and others have done nothing more than laugh and lol at Tempest’s thoughts, yet I haven’t seen a single point that was as genuinely argued as some of his own. Why do you all have to persecute somebody for stating facts of the matter? Thieves are in an unhealthy state at the moment and rely far too heavily on an unfair skill/mechanics-cap in order to overcome keyboard-rolling Warriors and others. If you deny this, you’re indeed either a troll or are delusional, because if that’s not true, there wouldn’t be such a proliferation of patently more powerful classes being played, while the thief is relegated to attempting what used to work well, but is hopelessly impotent.

Our effectiveness in zergs is completely underwhelming and limp, besides keeping downs from rallying. 1v1 requires near flawless play even when against other classes that have the liberty of making mistakes with more “get out of jail free cards” available to them. Would learning to player better help thieves feel more potent? Sure, this goes for every class, but unlike most others, for thieves it is absolutely required to be a mechanics god in order to excel at anything. Thieves are pigeon-holed into playing a style that Anet nerfed into oblivion some time ago, yet we were offered no alternative other than performing a bit-part role.

It used to be that if you were a crappy thief, mechanics-wise, you could still be helpful. Now, if you’re such a person, you’re utterly useless, whereas if you’re a crappy Warrior, Necro, Guardian, etc. nowadays, you’re just as much a cheese machine as ever. There are many, many things that could be tweaked in thieves’ kit and gameplay, but for whatever reason nothing changes. Anet seems happy in the fact that we have no real role other than being a kitten collector on battlefields. They’re content even to make a new class that gathers everything unfair in other classes and cramming it into a single one.

Thieves are in a bad place right now, so I don’t know trolls from every corner of the earth feel the need to come out from under their rocks and rave about somebody stating simple truths. I knew this forum was petty and childish, but c’mon…

I and others have given him fair advice but maybe you should take a look at his wording too in this thread, it goes both ways. nd we are talking about wvw and thieves are not in a bad spot (and pve)here when it comes to their roaming and 1v1 role.

I can see that I overstepped, but at the same time my impressions from such daily runs is that people tend to buy them to save time. For instance if you dont pay up within a certain time you often end up kicked, or so I’ve seen. That makes it much “easier” in just kicking since we’re all here to get what we pay for, and since I was in a rush I followed up on someones initiate for a kick, just to get the run going. Had gold not been in the picture I would’ve given it more thought.

And to answer @Thaddeus, it wasnt till a few minutes after I had left that the suposedly orginal owner whispered me.

Well regardless what happens I think its quite silly if I would get any form of ban due to this “mistake”. How could I know if the guy was the owner or not.

So basically I came home from work and started doing my daily runs of payed dungeons for quick exp on alts. I eventually joined a run with 2 guys, where one initiated a kick on the other. I didnt think much about it and accepted the kick as Im used at people kicking those who dont pay or understand that it was a payed run. Then I realize that the guy I accepted the kick on could’ve actually been the dungeon owner, as he whispered me right after saying he recorded it all and is going to report me and my supposed “friend”, and get me banned (note that I didnt initiate the kick). I told him I didnt know much better, but it left me thinking what the policy says about this “system”? Selling dungeon paths in general must be a dodgy area, for instance I have had runs where Ive payed gold only to see it was a scam, and naturally I thought Anet couldn’t done anything about it as we put ourselves at such risk (when the system didnt intend us to use it this way).

Feel free to share thoughts about the subject and experiences. I understand there could be other threads about this, but I just wanted to voice this perticular case.

First of have you played a thief before yourself? Figthing something that you vaguely understand is trickster, especially a thief.

A good thief will be one step ahead of you in terms of mobility, and with the weapon sets listed you are doomed to take hits. From here its a combo of being offensive, making them burn their utlities that have a longer cd than your hammer stuns or bow aoes (so that the longer the fight goes it should be in your favor). I personally run hambow and sit in my fire fields, make sure to rid myself of blinds before using stuns (by using a dmg attack), if you’ve played a thief before you should easier predict what is happening next timed with stances. All it takes is that 1 stun and theives are screwed. But keep pressure up with fire fields/burning onpoint.

1. If rifle/warrior were truly OP and needed balancing you should post in the Warrior forums not the thief forums
2. Clearly rifle is not OP in fact.. it was just buffed and STILL a rifle warrior is not meta for anything in this game except killing noob thieves who aren’t paying attention
3. L2P you have 3 utilities 2 dodges and stealth/evade on every weapon set you can mitigate a kill shot at ANY time unless you have no endurance/utilities/initiative in which case you got outplayed

3-Every class has 3 dodges and 2 evades. Stealth doesn’t help againts Channel skills.

Necromancer doesn’t even need any evades, he can just stay in one place and faceroll you.

It’s not about him being lucky to time evade, ideally you would want to dodge roll something to prevent damage, that mainly factors your own coordination ability (where you have to factor your own 400 ping). It’s very easy to point out that rifle Warrior can hit hard, but look at everything else he cannot do. Thats the reason that weapon set isnt generally used in WvW or SPvP. You said it yourself, it’s not all about 1v1, and more about what you can bring as a whole. That said, in a 1v1, a rifle warrior would lose as he doesnt have the Tools to sustain a longer fight, granted he fights a capable enemy. You lost because you didnt pay attention for a split second, same way zerker class X can kill someone quickly if they dont pay attention or use counter skills.

Surely it must be frustrating taking a one hit KO on your squishy thief, but know that the Warrior alone is kitten.

Right then, I came to the thief forums looking for something interesting to read, and what do I find? This beautiful gem of a thread that had enough lols to fuel the rofl copter.

From what I have read (and yes I read the whole thread), people have pointed out that you don’t seem to know the basic mechanics of thief such as dodging, stealth, weapon switching for utility and even something as mundane as walking and when people tell you something productive, you don’t think about what they are actually saying and immediately call them trolls or stupid followed up by you checking all of their past messages for some reason.
To me this looks like a serious case of L2P (yes even with lag it is doable) and at the same time a case of deflate your ego and take advice from the people who gave you some.

At 400 latency, you have something like 1-1.5 sec of action delay. That includes dodges as well. So please go ahead and tell me that you always play with lag and and it’s totally manageable and you can easily dodge a 1.25 cast time skill.

Can we go back to the start then, what was your issue again? Do you consider yourself a good theif with enough insight to claim other classes/builds, e.g rifle warrior overpowered? Why are you struggling on your thief, is it cuz u have high ping but want to win still/it shouldnt be a factor? There are many here that have pointed out what you couldve done diferently, to put it gently, but you seem uninterested in their, to me, logical and experienced answer. If you want them to treat you differently then perhaps change your tone

This is a perfect example of how to utilize a thief and succeed vs other classes, even some considered to be counter. Perhaps you can learn from this? It also showcases what other classes can not do.

Looking good in GW2 is def one of the many main aims With the game. A mix of racial, Dungeon and cash shop skins (With occasional living story skins) will get you there.

Good idea. Or at least make it so that you can have 2 rune sets on it to toggle between. As a WvWer and PvEr my runes are not optimal in PvE and switching between runes is expensive and illogical.

Other than that yes, ascended armor is such a big and constly Investment, there should be a little more innovation to it than the 1-2% stat increase.

I just wanted to thank Anet for a quality of life addition that has been quite pleasing since launch. That is the effectiveness when it comes to launching and getting into the game.
You log in once with the launcher, click play, and two-three seconds later you’re directly in the character screen. No uneeded filler scenes inbetween like NCsoft logo etc with additional loading screen like certain other mmorpgs have. It feels “pure”. Good job!

I completely agree With you OP. Its shame to see dev time wasted on redesigning a working system, only to have it redesigned again in HoT. Sloppy work and Resources that couldve been better spent elsewhere.

Well Ive tried to explain it and all i can say the classes work differently with each their niche. You basically said it yourself, you died because you didnt pay attention. We all know rifle burst skill hits like a truck. Thieves will always be squishy. Squishy died because active defensives werent used, be on your toes or fall where you stand. I could put dual pistols on my full zerker thief and burst someone, unaware like you, down with haste during zerg fight, like that warrior did.

I’ve played a thief for over a year both WvW/Spvp and warrior the last 3 months. Since OP is talking about WvW Ill stick with that point of view. As others have already stated, and as you know Tempest, they both have their own mechanics and niche. In your example it was a zerker rifle warrior which has to build up adrenaline to dish out that damage in a channel. Thief can backstab much more often, at less damage, but with easier access as long as they stay on target as you chose to be melee. Fighting X classes on my thief is easier than on my warrior, but then again you have to factor traits gear weapons etc.

I feel your whole thread is a little too focused on warrior supposedly OPness rather than counting in the whole picture such as drawbacks. You mentioned immunity to damage but that’s only for 4 seconds every 60 seconds if he chose to pick up endure pain utlity, vs thiefs faster access to stealth (and regen + condi removal when stealthed + shadow refuge). Even though a GS warrior has some mobility and potential to escape fights, it is no way a 100% escape potential as the thief has, that is gold on my thief as I know I can get away 100% of the time or reset the fight, your niche. A warrior cant do that. But again your focus was on the zerker rifle war and if you fought him 1v1 you would’ve bested him, hands down, if you used your dodges/stealth, as rifle is an ineffective 1v1 build and doesn’t support the other weapon set. It’s like a troll build, like the thief’s dual pistol set where you can burst a target quickly down – but the set has no other useful mechanics and especially once all that initiative is gone.

The fact that you took the full 15k dmg raises an eyebrow and you should ask yourself what were you doing that exact moment, were you not paying attention to his predictable channel ability, the problably only ability you even would’ve had to dodge in such a fight?

Well from what u now have itll be quite different playing a guard or warr. This is purely subjective but if u want something “easy” go guardian, the other route with warrior. Not saying warrior is hard, but it takes some more aiming and coordination than guard does. Warr deals more dmg and have condis, while guard has less dmg but more boons.

Ive done all 8 episodes from s2 but when i did it a second time on an alt i somehow didnt manage to finish the e5 (noticed theres no completion star like my other epis have). In the story journal the last part is the Hidden Arcana, the zone where u explore Glints lair. I remember finishing this but cant remember why this e5 didnt complete like the rest. Is Hidden arcana the last step, or are there more after? Shame having to redo it if there was something I missed.

Im also running full zerker in wvw and doing good 1v1 and in zerg aslong as active abilitiessuch as dodges and stances are being correctly used with gs hammer control. My yake is that u can never go wrong wkth full zerk as long as u know ur play. We also tend to go full in armor trait so u get an extra 300 toughness

Perhaps anet should introduce an options feature, maybe in a balance patch, where u can toggle the ability to have ur gem store pop up upon login with a red arrow showing where and how to buy new item. Hopefully that would cause less anrer amongst those who usually are unaware of such sales.

Ive picked up a Warrior and would appreciate feedback on builds like hambow (amulett runes weapons sigils traits AND the role during a match). Treat me like a 11 year old since Im new to this class and viable builds for spvp. So far Im liking the vision of Warrior being so versatile with weapon choices and being sligthly tanky (as a non bunker). Just wanted to comment on what seems like a ongoing issue (at least for Yakks Bend) where spies from other servers deliberately build massive amounts of siege to waste supply. Like take for example today, we had someone (most likely from FA since they do like to do this) who spent hours building 18 pointless trebs in our garrison. Sadly we were left impotently unable to do anything at all about this, so I was just wondering if anyone thought this was an issue that was widespread enough to need to be be addressed by ArenaNet.

My own suggestion to address this would be a option to vote someone out of WvW and give them a debuff preventing them from re-entering for 15 min or so just to address this sort of situation. Obnoxious player? Have 15 or so people vote them out for 15 min. They come back? Do it again, and extend the debuff to 30 min. Again? 60 minutes? Again? Well… you get the point.

Anyway, any comments are welcome.

Calling it trolling is your own words, but the solution you come with can be easily abused by letting the players pick who to kick out of WvW. Dont be so narrow sighted please.

They have definatly picked up the phase from the zhaitan failure with this seasons boss fights but they can n should go further. Even vinewrath isnt any special, there should be more variation

Zerker will always be superior imo, at least for my warr, n zerk gives more dmg for spike dmg encounters like wyvern has. If u know how to play zerk is the way.

As others have touched on, the battles are easy once u just do the pattern required. This is not a fight where u stand n deal dmg in their face from start to end. If u cant do a boss then it is most likely that u need to get ur tacs straight. And i actually found the fight quite easy on my warr mainly thx to healing signet passive n kiting inbetween tasks. Instead of calling something op one must understand what n why makes it first.

Having leveled all classes i can tell u that warrior is one of those easier classes to level and survive with, if u know ur stuff. U leave us with little detail in why u r dying, somethint u should ask urself in order to solve ur issue. As a warr u can have alot of pressure on mobs, for instance gs n hammer is a fun combo if u rotate abilities right and know what they do. In any case a guardian is easier imo to play

Basically I’ve recently returned from a longer break and thought Id pick up my necro for WvW play primairly. With that in mind I was hoping to get some thoughts or feedback on the current meta for us necros (1v1 pov but also good in group/zerg). From earlier I have some ascended zerker weapons and full zerker accessory, trinket and rings – and I quite like the powernecro playstyle so perhaps I could continue build on it.

Some traits may be obvious to change as they tend to focus a little to much on staff play, and that may not pair as well for zerker play? Nonetheless I quite enjoy going from staff and building up my life force with that weapon, and then into DS where the big damage is. Would also swapping out daggers for something else work well with powernecro?

At first I really didnt like the rifle weapon but now that I think more of it, it would be an interesting choice. Thiefs right now Are all about the melee. Having that 1200 option would be interesting, while I see it as a more viable option in wvw than spvp with the way the thief role has there (unless 5 rifle abilties can drastically change thief playstyle somehow).

Im guessing rifle wouldnt be to bursty like the ranger rapid fire as mixing such burst with the movement/stealth we have could be a dangerous route. In any case the rifle would most likely not be a viable option in pve with possible lack of dps.

My wishthinking is to be a sniper with stealth but again it can easily be OP :o) Like an ability ‘Camo shot’ where you automatically on 1 sec charge up/channel enter stealth and BOOM HEADSHOT, and bullet pierces through target dealing 75% with bleed on the next, and on the third 50% with 0.5 sec daze. Or *Rapid shot’ where you have to stand still unable to move while bursting 3 shots onto the target, like pop pop pop, while adding a slow during channel or even fear.
