As a longbow pew pew we would be back in there if they buffed our AA a tiny bit. It sounds crazy and I dont have the numbers, but they are lower now than pre patch. Rapid fire is untouched, and when this is on cd our “pew pew” factor is gone. I feel we have the survivability through utilities/trait synergies, though this again leaves little for our team compared to what x class/build can provide.

I have prepurchased Heart of Thorns where I get access for all beta material. So can I expect I can participate in the stresstest?

Stress test is usually shorter and they may even try to crash the server for performance diagnostics, so all in all u wouldnt/shouldnt expect much out of it as u could from a beta. On the other hand, the new borderlands are not tied to the expansion, so the hot beta deal isnt regarding wvw testing.

I dont get why people are complaining about the ranger not using his skills right or the pet right in the video, and some people even complained he didnt swap weapons – and what good would that do, some crazy burst? If a Power ranger leaves his lb then his burst/“pressure” is gone, and landing hits with ur gs is no easy task vs guud players.

The ranger auto attacks hit slightly less in this patch and cele still scales the best on ele. It was quite funny watching the ranger pewpew’ing away while the ele roateted his skills and didnt try to avoid damage, and yet kept himself high in Health. From a 1v1 perspective that is unbalanced, why people are trying to justify this is their problem, and the ones shouting the most are those you see the most.

Figthing good eles are already quite hard as a Power lb ranger, but as cele its not possible. Id love to see how many other classes/builds struggle with this setup, though theres no Secret ele / mesmer is top tier atm

I saw somewhere that they improved the AI on mobs that are comming in HoT, so with that in mind I think it was just sloppy design decisions on their part, all from just the taming pet part where u just walk up and click tame (which is a very different story in WoW). THeyve had 3 years almost to fix this, so its a mixed bag of many things, they just prioritize different things. Another example is the daft personal story, theres no challange there, and the fights are uninspiring (at the end of questlines the major boss can spawn right out of the blue, you dont have to damage him due to NPCs taking him down, and then they see u as a hero somehow for not being able to take him down without u)

Yeah I hit 550ish non crit on prot buffed ele too, and thats with zerker amulet. U notice pressure is lower when RF is on cd, esp me since Im running similar “idea build” as pre patch glassbow,

Im running owl/raven always as MM WS BM simply because, as OP stated, their F2 are actually reliable (they land most of the time unless target is moving at 33%, I then have to wait till they turn/stop) and birds have F2 on 15 sec cd compared to other pets that have much higher cd. Birds also deal nice single target dmg, but can die quickly even in 1v1, usually I dont swap birds till one is close to dying, since ICD on taunt is 15 sec anyway.

I made this question after patch hit, I am under the same impression too, though I dont have any numbers/values to compare to.

Full zerker lb gs. Mm ws bm. Lead the wind, wilderness knowledge, beastly warden. Owl and raven for 15 sec taunt. If u master when to time taunt depending on the situation and stay ahead of the situation, this build is very durable. As always, theres room for zero to one mistake, if u play it right u can last longer in a fight than pre patch glassbow.

If i see someone 1v1 by themselves i let them have at it. If ppl on my server are ganging up on someone, outside of zerg, 2v1 3v1, i usually wait till hes downed so i can tag kill. Dont know why i do it but i guess its a gentlemans notion. If many are standing idle watching ppl 1v1 then it also should be obv theyre dueling, usually theyll let u pass but they will attack if u interfere.

Im finishing my ascended gear on my power ranger, where I want to be able to dish out as much damage as possible on LB/GS (WvW/semi PvE).
Have anyone given it some thought of whether one should get a few pieces of assassin gear (now that theyve made precision stand out more on it) just to boost our crit ? Im sitting on 50 atm with pure zerker, should I push it higher with precision (counting fury) or is it better to just go for 50% and focus on the power stat?

Edit: Maybe I could have 2 sin armors on main parts that gives prec as highest stat?

Its to early to tell, its like with the launch of teq till people nailed strat down. I did a pug teq today and even though we wiped (at the battery phase) it was mainly due to people not standing at spots where boss could be crit (and ofc failing to def batteries). Other than that it was quite close, so it should be possible. A challange is nice afterall, its just more HP which means people have to follow some strat more instead of just expecting that damage alone > profit

I did my first (ranked) match after the patch and I see I was perhaps a little overly pessimistic regarding the glasspower LB, if you compare it with its “position” and expectations pre patch in mid tier PvP.
While I did not get to fight all classes, and it was just one match, it did give a decent overview of the traditional power LB/GS standing, and you had more durability (more trait/boon synergy) figthing on point as long as you were ahead of what was happening. This was as a MM/WS/BM zerker ranger, but the variant brings little to the team and could be replaced with another burst build, but still it had its use in mid tier and wasnt the wet noodle I expected it to be. I dont know if this was posted before, but I just wanted to give a huge thank you for the wings backitem update, changing it from static to dynamic <3 Opinions on the subject are of course subjective due to its animations, but personally I feel theyre much more natural now than what they were!

A side question, can a precursor drop from those reward bags by mawdrey, princess, and star?

If someone is being rude to you for asking simple qjestions then the fault is on their end Thankfully the ranger forum tends to be more friendly, Im also a closet pew pew ranger myself :P While one could argue that pew pew didnt really bring much to the team, it was a unique playstyle, esp for stronghold. For me the winds have shifted and its time to learn another playstyle/class.

We also have to factor in that everyone has more survivability now, that would also worl against the dmg potential somehow. Lb was always a fragile wep to begin with; pew pew rangers were never any good solo node defenders, and now its worse. Give it some time tho to see how everything else pans out, if its the same in a month id say reroll or change wep build

One factor imo is that everyone elses dmg output has gone up, so that the moment of oppurtunity is smaller. Having that ranged advantaged is therefore no longer much benefit.

Been doing some WvW and I seem to struggle vs the condi mesmer due to high stealth uptime. Ive tried different variants of the power longbow/gs, but If I dont burst him down during his stealth cd/reflect/invul, then he seemes to rotate and outlast me. Anyone else tried different power variants with some success?

The biggest issue I have with BW is that you never really know when it is up. Between all those different f2 cooldowns and then you even swap pet.

Really want icons for that kind of skill.

If u go with owl and raven theyll have about 14 16s cd on their f2, among with 15s on petswap. Just make sure u wait till the same f2 is back on cd the first time before u swap pets, as there is a 15s ICD

Id say if ranger is still left out of the competitive scene (with BW being there) then theres nothing to quarrel about

Alright thanks for the replies guys. Guess ill scrap those plans and stick with the pet skins we already have. One can only hope Anet adds more pet skins (with similiar popular f2 abilities)

They didnt touch long range shot either? feels a bit weaker but I dont have numbers to compare

Another thing to point out, use taunt for thieves in stealth if you’re going into beastmastery, it makes them attack the pet and puts them out of stealth and it’s good against many classes for diverting burst from you. I can’t stress how well it works. Taunt is a very useful thing to have, and is very good for active play.

My current setup is

Marks / BM / Wilderness Survival… amulets I’ve been trying: Marauder, Sentinel’s, Valkyrie. All pretty good amulets with some tradeoffs between dmg and health. Sentinel’s is actually really good with remorseless because of the toughness and health it offers.

I use raven / white raven as bird pets.

This is obviously for PVP … In WvW you’ll have alot more options in terms of gear and more dmg overall because of that and food.

Could u tell me why u use raven over krytan drakehound which also offers knockdown? can the birds easier make it around obstacles, or they more bursty?

There are a few pet skins I really like, such as the black spider. Does anyone know how long itll take to get all the pets, or at least the black spider (9 HoM points). Are the tasks “hard”/time consuming? Must I be level 20, which takes a week to get to?

Anyone made some thoughts on Lead the Wind vs Remorseless? Im just so fond of LtW for its cd reduction, that lil thing is nifty to get that 2nd kd or stealth off before having to swap to GS in a 1v1. Is remorseless 25% dmg incr that much better, does it affect a whole RF? How often can u gain fury on average with that trait?

Also, what pets are people running with as power LB? Im having slight mixed results with Beastly warden unless I really pay attention that my pet is close to its target vs the 3 sec swiftness on pet swap GM trait

Personally I find the footsteps of eternity of being a lil too much with the explosions/fluff. People who pick twilight or sunrise have their reasons, but opinions may change.

I dont know if this has been brought up before, but what would you feel about having the option to swap/mystic forge your Twilight into a sunrise, or reverse?

I dont know how to put it, its the second time it happens to me, but basically I just logged in and my character would move at 100x faster speed (same with my characters animations), I could see other people around me and they seemed fine/standing still. I dont know if it has happened before to anyone else but I logged off right after in case anyone would report me for “speed hacking” or what not. I recorded it and could upload it in case none has experienced this before. When I came back again everything was fine.

Classes such as Warrior / Gaurdian and Engineer should in general not have much of a problem with it I think, as they have good utility to blocks and have quite some toughness most of the time. The problem lies more for the squishy classes I think, such as Mesmer, Thief, Necro and Eles (the fresh air ones). As most already found out I play thief most of the time (Gaurdian, Engi and Necro too), and I do have a ranger of course.

The problem is more that a full Rapid Fire does around 75% of my HP. On 1 vs 1, I can beat rangers fine, but I notice a lot that when a ranger appears in groupfights, he just instantly casts Rapid Fire and most of the time it is already too late to react, because the attack has a larger range (not in range of Headshot or Steal), and Utilities have a too long cooldown to be able to able to handle the Point Blank Shot + RF more then twice. (Since most of the time you also need utilities for certain other professions.

But of course I can agree that if you’re out of utility, there are many more skills that could kill you. The only problem I have with RF, is that there is no way to escape once it is casted as a squishy build without block/reflect. If you’re below 75 health it kind of means instant death. (As it does 1.5 times the damage of a backstab)

It is not like the whole game is ruined because of this, but it tends to ruin the experience a bit, if you’re killed at 75% health from 1500 range with the ranger just pressing 1 button.

I do think Ranger needs more utility to survive though. Expecially when wielding other weapons then longbow (since longbow already has stealth)

U said it urself mate, one on one u can beat RF but in groupfights u can lose. But thats it, theres too many factors to consider in said groupfight. For starters the group should be focusing in appropriate order, meaning glassy lb ranger. If ur group isnt coordinated then they lose

Its crazy how ppl complain bout not getting a char slot when a weeks work will get them one, us vets have had a long time getting several, and its free since we arnt locked into a crazy f2p model with paywalls

Will pets be able to stay on a moving target, thats what im wondering, the potential dps loss. How much will the BM 30 runspeed trait vs none help? Id love to see any pet have same function as Moa AA leap attack, but maybe that is to strong or not needed with the trait revamp

On a side note, isnt it refreshing having class diversity in this game? What people are complaining about, regardless of being wrong or right, is the extra 300 range and supposed OP AA damage and burst from that range. If we start changing classes to be more mechanically the same (which some in here are asking for), there would be less individualism and risk of stale gameplay (and yet power ranger isnt a meta in any gametype). But at this point theres little incentive in trying to argue for the current ranger state due to the internet and how it can be.

Whats really wierd is all the misleading wording people use to boost their cause. Have you seen a ranger killing a player in 0.1 seconds, because thats what instantly mean. Killing something so fast that none could react, whereas a rapid fire takes 2 seconds and would take a equally tier geared light/medium to roughly 30-10% health. During this time, as said so many times, the target has time to react and counter. Its basically class mechanics where the ranger has its range, and often people complain because their setup isnt made to deal with it or just dont understand mechanics/their class/build. While this game isnt about 1v1 i would agree with the offended if such a ranger had no counters, but it does, the answers are there but some people are bad and some people are good.

Anyone else feel they should add such an upgrade?

I bought the deluxe edition for heart of thorns for three hours ago, but now I regret it because after giving it some more thought, I’d rather take advantage of that 4000 gems offer included in the ultimate edition. Would it be possible to add an option so that we can upgrade our lower account purchases? In FAQ it says it isnt possible, but other companies are doing it, maybe it is possible here too.

If not Ill try my luck at asking for refund so that I may buy ultimate.

@Mattmatt.4962 You make it sound so easy playing a ranger calling out whats supposedly broken, but have you tried playing a power variant yourself when focused by a competent opponent? You would be amazed at how mortal this build is, and I wonder what makes you think GS has “insane mobility”. It’s just too much focus on the AA damage and rapid fire damage than every context, like a competent thief/mesmer/ele/guard with right build or condi can deal with this so called death from afar class.

Being good at pew pew ranger is all about making right predictions/reactions, preferably before your opponent’s move impacts you. We have the pew pew, but as you know you need the moves to overcome opponent’s utilities. This is usually what gets me when i fail, regardless of class (though happens more often vs “quick” classes like thief, mesmer, mediguard insta tele burst, s/f ele). Other than that we dont have good condi cleanse so if you dont manage condi setups ull easily fall down flat on your face.

Overall I feel the power ranger got the most love, but that shady playstyle isnt nec needed or effective in x content like higher tier pvp or group pve. Ill continue playing it as it now opens up more needed condi removal, but im annoyed that our GS leap is no longer affected by traveler/swiftness, might have to consider picking up sword/x instead since overall GS feels easy to read/counter. Pet buffs are okay, but would be awesome if they added the leap-auto attack mesmers Moa 1 has, so that they easier stick on a moving target.
Additionally I can see myself swapping a utlity out for zephyrs speed now that they removed healing reduction, and added super speed. Nice get away and quick burst among with stun breaker.

Edit: Ill add Im slightly worried how the amount of retal thrown around will affect Power rangers, but it remains to see how often such traits are picked up and their overall usefulness for x class.

This is the main reason I will never live in Australia, it’s not in an MMORPG friendly location. At least you got nice beaches.

You need to understand the mechanics, as you say, you have no clue why you are dying. Do some research on the net or pay attention to your sourroundings/buffs/mechanics and find the pattern to overcome the encounter. Then itll be easy, and you’ll feel good about yourself.
