Just one dodge is enough to avoid all the damage from rapid fire. Not most of the damage, or some of the damage, but ALL of it. Keep that in mind when you complain. 1 single dodge. On the flipside, these rangers are pure glass, so as soon as you do your 1 dodge (yes its hard i know) their toast.

You know your name kinda seems similar to me either from the Thief or Warrior forums. I don’t bare any grudges, I just wonder. I do however fully agree with your comments, and also followed the link in your signiture. I was looking at the Tame Example part, and something was really bugging me. If iceman is made of ice, and he’s all muscley and kitten, why does he jiggle when he throws his attack? And also, can I make warriors juggle like that in wvw?

If you have some friends to run dungeons with you can have cleric even, whatever you wish. Dunno how rangers are looked upon since the patch, but the dungeon running folks think its zerker or gtfo. So there you have it. It depends on who you play with.

Most of the animals are currently located under WvW discussion subforum. I don’t think they are tameable tho and I wouldn’t suggest to pet them. They bite and if you feed them nuts, they will throw ’em right back at you.

1) Add a 1s Pre-cast
2) Add a telegraph similar to Pin Down
3) Reduce range by 300 – 600 units
4) Increase recharge by 2 seconds
5) Remove vulnerability

There. Rapid Fire fixed.

Here’s my concern with this. Either you will see the ranger and can do something to stop him from downing you (which you can without your suggestions), or you don’t and none of your changes will matter. Also half of your suggestions would make RF completely useless. 1 seconds of pre cast, with a telegraph, and 300-600 range reduction…. how about I have to fax you my build one week in advance so you can react to rapid fire?! This is pathetic.

5) Longbow ranger isn’t just rapidfire all the time. You will need to squeeze most out of your utilities (both from longbow and from skills 6-10). Use autoattack for damage on bow, and everything else to stay alive/at range. Rapid fire is only there to finish someone off, unless you run in an organized team and they need you to stack vulnerability (probably not) You can buff yourself too of course, but you might find that a zerker ranger, even with Signet of Stone is pretty easy to kill. I know how boring it might sound to just autoattack from range, but things will become interesting pretty soon once you get someone’s attention.

You do not need skills to win in those situations. If in ANY game AoE caps exist, the raid vs raid outcome will be won by the side with more numbers.

Zergs require no class knowledge or skill.

Not a class issue.

I’m sorry but this is just not true. The term zerg-busting rings a bell? Raid vs raid will be won based on group comp and coordination. Unless numbers are skewed unrealistically. 10 vs 100 is of course a numbers game.

Seeing all the QQ on here, what I am really seeing is people playing glass builds that are mad that a ranger can kill them before they kill the ranger. I don’t play ranger, and I normally don’t play glass, and honestly this hasn’t been a problem at all for me. This is 100% L2P, or rather L2Adapt.

Rangers that don’t build glass do not hit that hard, rangers that do go glass hit harder and only really waste other glass builds. Glass is supposed to be high reward – high risk. Rangers are now your risk.

This class has been objectively kitten for years, literally years. I never ever, like ever, worried about a ranger, ever. Free kill every single time. Now I have to think a little bit more when I fight one. This change has enriched my gameplay experience, and so I want to thank Anet for doing it.

A nice bonus is getting to laugh at all the people crying about Rangers. And the last little cherry on top is that people are crying about Rangers instead of mesmers for once (I only play mes ).

Yeah, I wonder what happened to all those Torment on AA doomsday threads. Glad someone sees things for what they are.

Why wasn’t RF stupidly op before patch then? I mean c’mon It is an Overall DPS buff of 15%-20% (now 10.5 sec with CDR before 12.5 sec with CDR + AA from maxrange was stronger anyway) for a weapon rangers were laughed at for using it. Not that i cared… before patch noone knew how to fight LB and now People are actually thinking of Counters for it and you get focused even more in smallscale >.> … In my opinion SotW is way more of a Problem since it’s active is stupidly strong now that you don’t have to invest for it anymore., but still… it’s on a 48 sec CD and predicting and doding the RF from that GIANT ranger and pet shouldn’t be too hard

This is misinformation you are spreading here.

First of all, try increasing HB damage by 20% and watch the forum flood with cries that it is OP.

Second of all, Rapid fire was a 5 second channel, it is now a 2,5 second channel. That’s not a 20% damage boost, it is way more. You can say autoattacking was stronger, but how long can one auto-attack before forced to do something else? The fact you can do your burst damage this easy now is a huge buff.

Last of all, nobody gave a kitten about RF because it was so slow and because the character using it was a free lootbag. Now, with all the new ranger tools, and a 2,5 sec RF, it is quite obvious that RF is over the top.

Ranger as a whole isn’t though.

Who is spreading misinformation here? There was no damage increase on RF. Only DPS. What this does? It creates burst for rangers. They didn’t have any before. They have better sustained damge of course, but they still have craptastic defense in return. You say the channel decrease is a huge buff, but its also less reliable, because you can dodge more of it.

“it is quite ovcious that RF is over the top” is your oppinion. You can have that of course, just don’t spread it like its a fact.

As someone previously stated,all classes with proper build and weapon go for 2k damage on AA.

Cool, can i have a 1500 units dagger for my thief? I would forego the mini-cleave for that.

I decided to share some thoughts, althought I’m affraid people who could/would appreciate it won’t take the effort to read 3 pages of QQ to read it. Anyway here goes.

To start off I would like to start by sharing with you that – even though there was a video about the rise of the bearbow which I found REALLY funny – unless you played ranger for the last 1.5-2 years, played zerker longbow ranger for at least 2-3 months, tried and dropped at least a good 12 builds in the process, you have no idea what these buffs mean to rangers. I know 0 kittens will be given by some, and I will give exactly 0 kittens for whining from thieves, eles, warriors, guardians in return. Mesmers, necros and engies have some of my sympathy. Our past does not justify this no matter what you think of the changes of course.

People complaining about rapid fire are either chosing their wording poorly or are clueless. There are a few changes which make what is now possible… well possible. I feel that the investment rangers have to make to pull of some numbers being thrown around are a pretty substantial trade off for that damage. Ranger are weak against everything in the game when they are a full glass LB ranger with RtW and points in Skirmishing.

Some of the issues 1by1:
- They deal lot of damage too easy. True, in return they are killed too easy too.
- They just need to be at a place hard to reach and can avoid combat. I think this like many other complaints will go away, when people will run options that can help them deal with rangers. I’m sure rangers can start a fight from 1500, but I seriously doubt theye can stay at 1500 the whole fight. And if they can’t, you can deal with them.
- RF is like 100b at 1500 range. In return ranger is far easier to kill then a warrior.
- It is far to easy to deal damage with RF. It is also very easy to shut it down. Weakness, protection, reflect, block, line of sight, retaliation, confusion, daze, stun are all ways of dealing with it. And chances are your class has options to deal with it. Also… dodge. Srsly. Dodge. If you don’t bother giving up some of your endurance bar, then suffere the consequences.
- Why should I adjust my build just because ranger RF has been buffed? Well why should I adjust my build to deal with any condi build, or thieves, or hammer warriors, or mesmers… see where this is going?

Condi Ranger Build

The build having 1900 toughness and bark skin should take care of thief danger in the hands of a competent ranger.

I don’t think out of combat mobility is overrated at all. If you cannot move fast out of combet, you will be like a slow kid everyone hits on the had as they run by. You cannot pick your fights if you’re slow. I slot GS and sword or warhorn on my first 2 slots in inventory all the time, so out of combat I can quickly swap weapons for more mobilty (currently trying out a sb a/d build).

As for the build I think sharpened edges might be good in your build as when you use sharpening stone you will get fury and are at 50% crit chance. But I would stay away from earth sigils. The 2 seconds internal cooldown is a letdown. Instead you could use sigil of strength. On shortbow you will get might as you apply bleeds. You can mainain 10 stacks if you could open with quickness, but at least 5 should be possible by autoattacking. I would try out ghost pepper poppers. They help you end the fight quicker during the day as you get might on crit, and it helps you kite during night, as it gives chill. And unlike sigil of ice it doesn’t have a long ICD. I’d also swap lynx for owl for more kiting and burst. Without the condi damage trait for pets and rending attacks lynx damage won’t be what it could be. Owl will be another source of chill which you will need if you want to kite pepople.

What is wrong with animation? I don’t understand. What needs a hotfix? Its a channeled skill that is now a shorter cast compared to previously. I was under the impression that most people complain because of signets (even if they don’t realize). Previously you could do the same damage. Without the grandmaster trait for signets you can now do this damage from 1500 away. How does this relate to animation or speed?

Sooo…. you guys would be ok with 1200 range same cast time same damage? I mean its easy to dismiss RF as is, but how would you balance ranger with longbow? The only thing going for it is range, and there are too many ways of taking that away from them.

And to all the people who say “learn to dodge” : you re just acting delusional.
A thief Backstabs me and is DPS ing me down? Just Lb #4. He uses a Shadowstep to come back to me? Lb #3 and reposition. He uses another Shadowstep to come near me? Stone Signet, then rapid fire. Dead thief.
Shadow Arts thieves are more thanks and that’s why I slot Sic Em on my utilities, and they drop like flies.
Meanwhile.

Easy mode… is only your opposition it seems.

You think about soloing only. In group play it would be pretty strong me thinks. 1 blast finisher equals 5 auras you cannot strip. 1 aoe on that team and you get 5 stacks of vulnerability on yourself and get hit from 5 retals. Sounds pretty strong to me, although I must admit I didn’t test this. I know how people feel about Anet, but I’m sure they on the otherhand did make some tests. Maybe light aura will stop mindless aoe spam in group content.

Well of Blood just received a 21% nerf to its AoE base healing, and a 45% nerf to its ratio on the AoE healing, to allow it to heal you over 5s instead of 10s.

Two questions:
1) Why nerf an already underused skill whose sole use was the fact that it was the highest healing skill in the game
2) Why was this not considered important enough to put on the preview? This is a very significant nerf, one that anyone could have told you didn’t make sense, but it wasn’t put up for public discussion.

Good news is though, Necromancers all now know that Consume Conditions is the heal of choice 100% of the time, so that’s cool I guess.

Wait what? I must admit I don’t run sPvP much, but seriously?! You can survive in there in zerker gear with 1 passive condi removal every 10 seconds and no stability what so ever? I am amazed. A condi build with 6 stacks of bleed will negate your heal, and if you have poison on you as well you are basically screwed. Entangle will be laughed at by anyone who is not stuck with a ranged condi weapon for 5 seconds. This is a legit build that you think is OP?! I need to get back to drink precious qq tears to the ranger forums to clear my head.

For Sigils I would go with either accuracy or perception unless you get 100% crit chance without them. Depending on who you run with you could do nice condi damage with 25 might stacks, but if there is a guardian in party all torch would be good for is fire field. If there is an ele in party, it will be redundant too. You could run offhand axe. With the buff on bosses you won’t throw them around but its good damage, and a reflect with vulnerability too.

Suggestion: player camera improvements

So for the first technical challenge, how could we get this to work when the camera doesn’t know what ‘ground’ is.

Does the camera know what angle the center of the screen is pointing towards is compared to the axis that is “the ground”? If yes, then under or over a certain angle the point of view could be elevated. I see a pretty big issue with this however. Currently your view being blocked by walls stops you from shooting an AC all over the place. Wouldn’t such a change cause problems with that? Also could allow people to look at things maybe they shouldn’t be looking? Not sure how maps are designed in this sense.

Rangers have nothing to do with archery other than being able to do it.

The term “Ranger” does not imply a ranged specialist, neither in GW2 nor in tradition. It refers to a character who is an experienced survivalist and who is attuned to nature.

And they can perform that role just as well with a sword as they can with a bow.

I think you missed the “title is a joke” part. First phrase, second line.

I didn’t miss anything. I was only addressing a rather annoying misconception that periodically perpetuates the Ranger forum.

I’d rather see all the bearbows flood the forums demanding the removal of melee weapons then yet another grammar kitten arguing about semantics. One is funny, the other boring and unnecessary.

I rarely use RaO, and for the stability when I do. Axe could be a thing with dagger offhand. Might try that out. I think shortbow with quickness will still be better dps. What could be good for my build is another chill from axe main. However I’ll be without a daze. We’ll see.

Chilli pepper poppers are amazing for this build. It either applies chilled a lot for my owl to hit, or adds might to the owl. Will be nice with rending attacks even with 0 condi damage on pet.

I ran a shortbow sw/wh zerker build with 0/2/0/6/6 Owl, Wolf. It was really good for stacking might on pet. Might mix some rampager in there, and mess around with rending barbs probably. 20 stacks on my owl and bleed on his autoattack will be a boost to the damage I was already able to put out with him. If I hade full ascended celestial build it would even be better, but I just can’t be bothered to grind for that.

Sick good how you killed that guardian in the beginning. He couldn’t even finish his coffee.

He probably watched his map for half the fight. You could do the same with golems in the mist.

@OP, you obviously know how to play, and have good skills. Nice video as well. However…. I would love to run into the players you seem to find. They were either clueless to how to play against a condi ranger, or were in their zerg builds.

So tired of all these wvw videos, rangers are way better of in wvw since they can for ex. skip condition duration in spec and get that from food. I want too see more tpvp videos. And more longbow and greatsword ones for that matter, make more of them so anet dont think we all use conditions and balance arond it like they do atm.

You think Anet balances based on Youtube coverage?! If it is the case, we are royally screwed.

I will admit though, Charr are adorable in those feathered hats. But I can’t stand the voice acting and if I have to listen to my character fight and talk all the time, I prefer to enjoy it.

What?! I would say sylvari and human are worse when it comes to combat sounds. Falling charr male sound is the best! XD If you want to listen to “Eat my dust”, its your choice of course.

I’ve finally found a dual bow build that works!

Title is a joke, if you like melee that’s great. But lets be honest, most people make a Ranger to use bows. Because bows are cool.

I’ve tried all the melee weapons but I just don’t like them. I wanted to use bows. And for WvW. Oh yeah.

Here’s the build that I made after much trial and error. LB and SB are not really complimentary. But this works. Its the most fun I’ve had as a Ranger since I built mine at launch.

Below is the build.

The sigils are either what came on the weapon or because their cheap. I’m saving up for some different ones. Any reccomendations would be much appreciated.

Pets. I’m not set on these two. Not sure what would be best.

Traits can be changed up to provide some variety. This is the base. Sometimes go full into Marksmanship and/or Nature Magic or some combo. The build works with many variations.

Since your build is not a typical glass cannon, I would rather take runes of speed and get Signet of Renewal instead of Signet of the Hunt. Even with the new changes SotH would only be worth taking with SotW and full zerker 6/6/x/x/x to get its money’s worth. Just my oppinion of course.

If you run both bows I guess TU is good for you, but I just cannot imagine my ranger without HS. I run with LB, Sw/Wh, so I get a blast finisher and leaps out of it too if I want of course. The people I run into either kill me with burst where TU is useless, or condis. With condis I find HS to be so much better.

For food and sigils I would rather go with sigil of strength instead of earth on shortbow and chilli poppers (adds chill at night, and might at daytime). The 2 seconds internal cooldown on Earth is soooo bad for rangers. On longbow I would say its not worth taking. Go with strength there too, as your crit chance is good enough.

Edit: also noticed the sigil of force on shortbow. Accuracy or battle would be better I think.

Bows just haven’t got enough evasive ability for me, when evasion is a key advantage of ranger.
:(

LB/SB with utilities has 6 (plus 2 dodges – 6) evades (counting stealth, a form of evasion).
S/D/Axe/D with utilities has 6 (counting hornet sting + 2 dodges – 6) evades.
GS/S/D with utilities has 8 (counting GS escape and block + 2 dodges – 8! ) evades.

I can see your argument, GS/S/D will have a slight advantage, but not enough to warrant LB/SB as not evasively competent. The above is just a rough count to show LB/SB isn’t as bad as it sounds, lol.

I’m sorry, I must be blind but I can see only 1 evad on the 2 bows together. Are there other options for you to defend yourself? Yes. Are they evades that don’t require a target to be hit and not have stability? No.

Get all power, precision, ferocity. Greatsword is a good pair for LB. However, be warned that Lonbow on ranger, and just ranger in general is not the best choice for dungeons, pvp, wvw currently. It might change with the coming feature pack, but a lot of people are sceptical.

I believe the Ranger changes are not enough.
They made Longbow OP, but all the rest still sucks about the ranger.

How did they make longbow OP? Please elaborate. If it is due to damage, then every class is OP, because they can all pull significant damage. Except most have a zerker build that is better at surviving then LB ranger. For now at least.

These changes have directly buffed power ranger and indirectly buffed both trapper and BM.
Pet AI and some kittened traits(opening strike, oakheart salve,etc..) remain crap, but the signet change is huge and it can not be stressed enough.

Well these changes might happen as they were shown later…. or not. Nothing happened yet.

What people overestimate are the longbow changes. The ranger changes in total are huge, but this is down to the signet and entangle changes mostly. The rest are qol changes, but signets will open up options. The new GM trait will also be great for pve.

Rly? Apart from all these changes being pretty sweet, there are quite a number of them too. Don’t be so negative. I think this opens up some build variety. There are a lot of possibilities if you look past the longbow changes.

Yay you zerg runners will finally be able to sit in your zergs and be helpful. It doesnt change anything for spvp ranger. They will still get destroyed. This isnt anything to celebrate. Wait till all the other class buffs and changes come out and ranger will be right back in its useless spot.

I don’t run with zergs. And I don’t like that point capture game either. So I’m pretty eager to try these out.

Through all the shiny changed There was actually a dirty nerf or two….

Bear F2’s can be blocked now. Kind of needed to happen though.

Entangle cooldown was reduced by 60%, but skill effect was reduced by 75%.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Who stayed entangled for longer then 5 seconds rly? Don’t think its a nerf.
