Level progression is boring to me. I want to have FUN.
Now, the armour and weapon set progression is still there, but the levelling system is almost invisible to me, I really don’t care what my character’s level is. If I level, great, if I don’t, who cares? I’ll just go explore some more, run another dungeon if I feel like it, go help a random village who’s being attacked by centaurs, I’ll do anything I want to without worrying, “Oh, am I too high level for this?”.
Some people, like yourselves, love the challenge of progressing your character’s level to the max, getting the best gear, the best skills, the best traits, but to most casual players, this has been the bane of our existence.
I personally want to thank ArenaNet for giving casual players a game to have fun
and this. couldnt have said it better (i tried).
Gw2 has failed to be “revolutionary”.
myself and many others would disagree. it has changed just about every aspect of the MMO toward the better. it can be deemed revolutionary when you see its influence on the development of future titles, which you absolutely will.
why havent i been able to stop playing since headstart? i called in sick just cuz i stayed up playing all night earlier this week =( preference i guess.
thing about me is….im not addicted to the rewards (not really chasing them). i crafted some cool spiky armor in the mists, and currently have my t1 cultural set in the open world. couldnt be happier with my looks, but it gets better. all achievable through casual play.
wasnt sure where to put this thread, please pass the info on or move it if needed. firstly id like to say that the game is very nicely optimized, on my rig anyway. optimizations came a long way since BWE1.
the one single thing that hasnt been optimized at all are the trebuchet/cannon projectile explosions. i run at 50-60 fps all the time, in the thickest of WvW encounters. but these explosions slow my fps down to a crawl. i dont know if it’s the amount of particles or what, but it really needs to be fixed.
i first noticed this in Khylo when the treb shot lands on the ground. my silky smooth fps grind to a halt almost. second place is Tribulation Rift in Dredgehaunt Cliffs where the dredge bombard the ground with cannon balls. i get about 10fps running through the area. the explosion itself is what does it, and the particles (or wahtever else) need to be toned down by like 50%..
post processing low, shadow medium, native render sampling, everything else maxed.

CM Story for the first time with a pug… Forget about it. That dungeon is absolutely rediculously hard. It’s not fun. It’s not challenging. It’s not rewarding. It’s cheap and It’s broken.
here’s a tissue broski. but youre right, CM is hard and it does need to get toned down a little. however, it’s very well done, it’s very challenging, it’s not really that broken, and i had a blast failing it with a bad pug.
Conclusion: Guardian is uneffective as support or tank in situations where more than 1 enemy is present. No aggro control system. Not enough hardiness to tnak multiple targets. Spell effects are sloppy in dungeons and do not prep players for the attacks about to happen. All I see are more red circles and more enemies with glowy effects around them that don’t accuratly reflect when they are going to trigger their attacks.
im sorry, but this has not been my experience. i cant relate to you in any way at all. i ran AC right at 30 with lvl 18 gear using two guardian specs: staff/sword/torch/consecrations/virtues, and hammer/mace/focus/shouts. i had a lot of fun, and while my melee tanky guardian had a rougher time, it was still a blast. i completed AC on my first run with rifle/elixir/grenade engineer at lvl 31.
i assume you werent specced properly, and grouped with clueless people. rangers hit hard, you need to reflect/block their arrows, or blind them constantly. melee trash needs to be focused first due to knockback. theyre easily kited.
CM was a lot more challenging, but still manageable. for sure though, AC story is very casual friendly.
i would play broken GW2 dungeons any day over the best WoW dungeons ever made.
give ANet a break. they really achieved something different here, and it may take some time for tweaks. it’s definitely worth the wait =)

id rather that dungeons start out hard and are scaled down a bit, than be easymode right off the bat (like every single WoW dungeon post vanilla). dungeons are a blast for me, really well done. rewards and odd bugs do need to get fixed though.
I’ve reached rank 20 and I’ve found that once the allure of getting “sexier armor”(which still I’ve yet to unlock the ones I want) has ceased, that I practically have to force myself to play GW2 to grind away glory to god knows what level just to get it. I’m over it already. Conquest is so BORING, I’m not having fun along the way. It’s not what I nor many here consider to be real PvP. “Guild Wars 2” has become this forum for me now.
this is so sad. i guess youre addicted or something? im almost rank 20 and i could play for another 20 ranks just on my guardian perfecting my builds and unlocking ill armor sets.
im disgusted by the amount of complaining in this thread, after Colin took a few minutes out his insane schedule to respond. game (and the esport scene) will do just fine without ya if u get bored by the time this rolls out. go play LoL i guess. take a break from GW2, because it seems it’s all youve been doing over the last 3 weeks.
the pvp offerings on release were more than generous. all profs (even some necro specs) are in a good shape, and will only get better. i cant believe how hungry everyone is! youre just devouring this game. good sign i guess.

staff/scepter/torch/virtues/consecrations. wards and consecrations are game-changers. people, please dont try to “heal”. try to prevent damage, cleanse conditions, or boon your mates.
sounds like the dungeons did a number on you. did you wanna play a healer? cuz this isnt the game for it. dungeons are skill-based, and they certainly do reward unique builds. also, how can u leave a b2p title? you enjoyed it for 4 weeks, so u definitely got your money’s worth.
“Guild Wars was so hard to balance BECAUSE of the fact that is was so customizable.”
and there’s your answer. GW2 will therefore be somewhat less customizable to accommodate proper game balancing.
the current state of balance is excellent, albeit not perfect. reason being, you can counter just about everything through proper positioning, dodging and avoidance, i.e. the use of your physical environment.
if that’s not enough, there are a ton of builds that can specifically counter others. for example, feel like nullifying that hammer warrior? build a guardian that can produce 20 seconds of aoe stability. are condition builds a problem? i made a torch/virtue/consecration guardian for tpvp just for cleansing and dps, which was extremely effective. i can go on. in summary, specific pvp elements you see as problems (cc, lack of build variety, general complaints(??), i see as solutions to the horribly balanced MMO’s of the last decade.
and no, they cant balance everything in the beta and stress tests. have you any clue how much variation other human beings can come up with? if they have a house team of 100 people, they wont be able to come up with as many builds as 500k of us. therefore, you can only stay in beta for so long.
current DE mobs need to hit harder, there needs to be more of them and they need to have much more HP, all relative to the zerg. the numbers and stats need to respond more appropriately to the potential DPS of the zerg. this i believe is a quick solution that would make DE’s much more enjoyable for now. and i expect a fix like this to be released soon, otherwise i’ll be spending most of my time in WvW and spvp.
youre talking about a compete rework, which is just not going to happen. not any time soon. but im sure the new DE’s their live team releases will have more complexity built into them. the current system is an excellent foundation and it works (relatively). it’s decent now and it’s going to get much better i think with new content releases.
“no? even if arena touts that as part of their “endgame”? interesting.
it also doesn’t mean people farm dragon spawns specifically”
correct. ANet doesnt tout dragons as part of their “farming.” theyre the endgame.
mesmer and guard <3 also my fav profs. strange that i enjoy they style of both equally.
i may have found a solution. i am now engaging mobs 6 levels higher than me. i still believe downleveled characters need to be majorly nerfed. it’s a serious issue when i try to go back in the world to complete content and im 2-shotting mobs.
lol this thread is hilarious. maybe some specs need to be somehow nerfed in pve then?
To Nerva: That is fine, you are totally entitled to your opinion as well. I would like you to add constructive feedback though, rather than the generic: “It is great. Don’t listen to these whiners spiel.” And my opinion is based on the fact that I have played Guild Wars,
so youre basically comparing a fresh, brand new MMO with completely new mechanics to something that has been out for SEVEN years? are you seriously expecting complexity right off the bat?
GW2 rewards high APM (actions per minute). some builds have higher APM than others. on my mesmer i probably do like 2-3 actions per second on average, while on my hammer/mace/focus guardian i do something like 1 per second, not counting autoattack spam. but even with simple builds, a higher APM would benefit you. there is always something to do (creating/activating a field, booning/cleansing your mate, cc’ing a mob, or dps’ing), but you will never see the same kind of complexity in GW2 as you did in GW, which had more build variations after 7 years of development. please note that GW’s balance has been a kittening joke for a long time (even after 7 years it’s sketchy), whereas GW2 is almost perfectly balanced ON RELEASE. please take a moment to appreciate this.
i like to think of spvp as a MOBA. few skills, they do a lot, and theyre extremely APM-centric. while your nostalgia is touching, GW2’s combat just may not be for you. i cant really address your other concerns. remember, theyre going after esports here and they have a viable platform. they really really do. with proper tools, GW2 will be huge on the scene and will easily surpass whatever WoW did. GW was too much of a mess to be considered serious esport material, and they learned tons from it.

im far from Orr (lvl 41 on my main), and im really taking my sweet time getting there. it sounds like Orr is a disappointment for most, probably because they didnt have more time to spend on it before release. im really looking forward to this zone’s changes. in the meantime, ive a million other things to do in game!
i went to Queensdale to run CM on my 41 guardian. stopped by to do a DE, killed some stuff. i looted a lvl 8 robe that gave +6 to vitality. is this intended? if so, why would i ever go to a lower level zone if 1) im not challenged (2-shotting everything), and 2) not getting any rewards?
Wait…you make a GUARDIAN and then compain you have too much survivability?
no, im giving feedback. im saying my guardian’s health bubble doesnt move. is it a bug
>.< ?
well i still feel like my guardian is way too tough. my gear is some of the best for that level, but i my health bar SHOULD move at times >.<
Go do a dungeon. I guarantee your health bar will move.
oh yeah, i did AC a few times. had a blast, was very challenging. im talking about the open world strictly.
i has an epic fight with a champion Ettin yesterday. i was doing well soloing him, when i aggroed 2 veterans. i was about to die, then 3 more people came along and we had a blast finish them off. then we climbed some rocks and found a tough vista. then, we did a huge event chain that took about 20 minutes. this was in Lornar’s Pass…DE’s everywhere, non-stop action. my favourite zone so far.
im leveling up for WvW, which will be MY endgame. ive played it a few times, and lots in beta. it did not disappoint so im super excited to get there.
well i still feel like my guardian is way too tough. my gear is some of the best for that level, but i my health bar SHOULD move at times >.<
ah ok. cuz im leveling an engie and mesmer as well (the more challenging profs), and im facerolling low level content as well. maybe it’s just me?
just out of curiosity, do you guys feel the overall pve difficulty (poor DE scaling against large groups aside) is in a good place? i feel it was harder in one of the earlier bwe’s and i loved it.
in addition, harder pve content on the way to 80 would naturally slow down the rate at which people hit 80, making it more of a big deal because getting downleveled from 80 with exotics to, say, lvl 40 makes the difficulty trivial as well. you’re 2-3 shotting mobs and not really losing any health. is it possible to nerf downleveled players?
(edited by nerva.7940)
i guess it makes sense to fight mobs 4 levels higher (ive tried mobs 3 levels higher with zero issues), but this doesnt really feel like natural progression. i feel if im lvl 40 in a 40-50 zone, i’ll be doing the lvl 40-41 quests for sake of completion/story. why am i allowed to faceroll through those?
the DR system has not affected me at all either. if it means dragon bosses are done less frequently, then fine. theyre not really meant to be “farmed”.
pve bro =) spvp is crazy challenging as people are getting better and figuring out their profs.
im having a blast smashing things with my hammer/mace/focus guardian. it’s so much fun. unfortunately, my healthbar doesnt really seem to move. i think i just aggroed a dozen svanir 1 level higher than me and my health didnt budge.
i wear my tier 1 cultural set and i have a rare hammer. im specced for power/precision, with a tiny bit of vitality. i have about 5k health at this point.
Please ANet, bring some challenge into the PVE. i love those moments when im fighting for my life, dodging, interrupting, blocking, healing back up. but theyre getting much more rare as my gear gets better it seems. the pve in this game is amazing, but please address the DE scaling and overall difficulty.
“Don’t get me wrong. I do enjoy the game, but it is getting old reallllyyyyyyyyy fast. There is not nearly enough diversity, especially in end-game and PvP. "
this is purely your opinion, your preference. a few others may agree, but that doesnt mean the game requires any changes. i feel the opposite.
on my main (guardian), i have 3 builds that are “my own”, i.e. i havent seen them use by anyone else, theyre effective and i love them. i have another 3 generic builds that i use sometimes. so all in all, im playing around 6 different builds that are viable in both tpvp and dungeons. i love it. on my alt (mesmer), i use a GS/mantra build specced for long range sniping really. havent seen it used much, i feel attached to it, like its my own. i can just keep going. maybe because i like the combat, i feel attached to my builds.
as a side note, i dont understand how u can call the combat lacking and not even discuss combo fields. creating combos with your mates is like 40% of the combat. do you not understand that? if you dont like it, fine. but personally, it’s one of the best things to come to MMO’s in general.
I can’t help but agree. See my thread for a similar take on why combat needs some work.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Autoattack-Isn-t-Fun-or-I-Miss-DPS-Priority-System
pointless thread. you want core game design changed. you just need to go back to WoW if you miss dps priority, aka little-UI-picture-clicking. thats all it is.
hi, im well, and yourself? i dont want the combat system changed. it’s great. im having a lot of fun. please dont try to design my game, i prefer ANet. thanks.
basically, it goes like this: ANet delivers a product based on core values and manifesto —> product aims to please those tired of old MMo mechanics —> you like the product, you play; if you dont like the product, you dont play. they dont want you to grind. they dont want you to get legendaries and exotics like theyre nothin. they want the market to matter.
youre basically looking for an excuse to rant about core game features. if you dont like it, try Pandas.
OP, sounds to me like u dont like the core features of the game. good luck in your next endeavors, but im sure u’ll be back
this doesnt need any more discussion. theyre probably working on a dozen things for endgame, and have had plenty of feedback and suggestions.
lol sounds like someone needs to learn the game mechanics. you see, WoW doesnt really have any. so they just give you stamina =P
still having a blast. just waiting for the whiners to go away =P
end game needs improvement…big surprise. theyre workin on it, chill.
i dont think pandas will even scratch gw2’s population. not this time.
not only is gw2 competing with p2p mmo’s, it’s probably #1 currently and will remain so for a while. once they get the content patches rolling, there’s nothing stopping them.
it’s just a matter of preference. as a twitch gamer, i find plenty of depth in gw2’s combat.
and de’s need to get buffed.
i really dont understand what the OP is about…on my guardian, mesmer and engineer, i use all 15 of my skills. i do it to maximize efficiency and dps. my rotation for guardian will be the following with hammer: swing twice with #1, on third, hit F1 and smash for burning and might boon; smash with mighty blow; hit purging flames to continue burning (+10% dps), smash with #2 again for might boon; hit #5 for light field, smash for retaliation; hit save yourselves for fury, do some more juggling if im fighting 4-5 mobs.
i will agree with you on ONE thing: doing a DE in a large group as a ranged profession/spec requires nothing more than autoattack spam. DE’s are too easy for large groups right now, and that near-death situation you speak of rarely exists. ANet is aware of this.
dungeons, on the other hand, are entirely different. i find them engaging and hella fun because u gotta be on your toes all the time. personal story, some DE’s, and general questing – also very engaging and fun.
i also hate that you brought WoW up, because it brings back memories of boredom. while resource management and dps prioritization was more “in depth”, it didnt matter. while GW2 has that near-death experience about 30% of the time as u say, WoW had it maybe 1-2% in bad pug raids. organized raids and 5-man groups stomped all content once they figured out the fight. in GW2, you always have to be responsive. AC dungeon is the most fun i ever had in pve, and im sure it gets better.

good. im GLAD.

Other than a few bugged traits and torch we’re in a really good place.
mesmer is almost perfect, only torch need some major tweaks.
what is being taken away? why do you have to have the top-of-the-line gear 3 weeks in? WHY?
The ability to get certain gear in an expected timeframe is being taken away. For the temple armor it costs 252,000 karma anyway, which would have taken weeks for the average player, now it may take months.
good. adapt, or disappear. im not saying this to be rude, but GW2 isnt like “any other” game. it is what it is. their mistake was allowing such high rewards in the first place. now they gotta deal with a kittenstorm of self-entitlement.
id like to meet these people who truly believe these dungeons are fun and would regularly do them for NO other rewards, and play with them through these dungeons. no trolling (ok maybe halfway), but id like to see how the other side operates and what im “missing”
hi, nice to meet you. dungeons are skill-based, and the most fun ive ever had in PVE. there are some rewards, and epics may take longer to obtain, but this is good enough for me.
On topic of this being fun-centric, I would hope they make it so everything gives similar reward, such as going to low level areas. I thought that was supposed to be the case. But karma rewards and what not don’t scale or anything.
this, +1. absolutely needed if the world is to stay alive. im sure theyre taking lots of notes on this.
