  • -Not sure how I like the fact that I can only do each boss once a day. As it was, I only did a boss maybe twice a day anyways. Do people really farm the same dragon 10x a day?

They’re masking the issue here – its not about farming…or getting people to check other areas. It’s (from what I gather) about curbing rewards because this used to be a bug. Chests randomly stopped spawning correctly for a lot of people after the jan patch. It was flagged. Next thing we know, it’s now a game feature.

No offence meant for doing this – I just think you’d get more response and less trollers if you have a better worded post

Adjusted for clarity:

  • Dragon Drops increased, but decreased to 1 chest per world event a day

i dint know that … ;( it makes sense

  • Guild missions are currently broken. Right off the bat, they’re not working.

yeah thats a shame but on the other hand im sure they are working hard to make it work.

I understand on guild missions – but lets be honest…this was the one major thing people were interested in doing…and arguably the most hyped up thing in this patch. To find after all that, it’s broken only shows they have a constant reputation of releasing broken updates.

It’s the equivilant of having your PC serviced/upgraded every few months and finding an upgraded OS, but none of your new features work at all, or your new PC case looks awesome, but non of the fans work.

In regards to the dragon drops. You’re also forgetting this was actually noted as a bug earlier last month after the jan patch. (chests not spawning for people)…this attached with DR and RNG means a whole host of issues could crop up (just as they have in the past)…

It’s not even that the reasoning behind single chest drops with increased drops was because of flooding the market with gear…it was ~“To encourage people to explore more of the world”

yea about this “if your not in a big guild your screwed” arguement – you can join more than one guild for this exact reason.

Thats not the point.

Point is, if you’re in a small guild that is social and likes each other’s company through events and such, you’ll have to join a big guild just to do that content – Now that this is the case, a LOT of big guilds will start the kicking wave to take out those who pop on just for guild quests but don’t contribute to influence.

So, do you join the big guild and stay with them knowing you’ll lose your “family style” guild but won’t get kicked for not contributing?
- or-
Stay with the smaller guild and just realise you’ll not see that content for a good few months, or not at all if you’re all quite casual players?

Meh, its still very much the same to me. Going from 5 to 10(?) choices only makes that much of a difference if the choices are worth choosing – It’s still quite restrictive.

While they have chosen to open up the list, they still have locked it to a select group each day, so if you REALLY like gathering and crafting, from what I can tell, they are on alternate days. Gather on day 1, craft on day 2, when they could have easily opened all that up and given you gathering and crafting all on the same list to chose from.

Spent tonight testing some stuff. Guested to GoM and ET, home was BG

3 events – Same char, same event, different server – 1st event = chest, 2nd event = no chest
3 events (same as first character) – Different character on different servers – chest on all 3.

Thanks for this bit of info. It’s greatly appreciated since I don’t have the time to check it myself.
I guess the questions is: If you weren’t doing it for testing purposes, would it make you want to go do other events?

This new Update have given new life too the game

Stuff to do with guildies
we got a new Goal to go after (new missions)
Buq fix (always nice) still need to fix warrriors rush.

More rares in the game giving the opstion to grind faster / easy the mats you need for things

Better drop at Dragoons and so on

more new gear to get

Guild mission= endgame for me :p so nice finnaly having some endgame in this game.

  • Guild missions are currently broken. Right off the bat, they’re not working.
  • Dragon Drops increased, but decreased to 1 chest per world event a day. (If you’d seen past posts, this was initially a bug where Chests from World events would not spawn – I don’t even think you get bonus karma for helping like on Hearts you’ve already completed)

The only good thing was they fixed their loot tables across the board. I’ve still not tried with champions and vets yet, but I can only assume it’s fixed.

This is most likely because people camp the Maw event in the norn area.

I personally think that it’s not the right move to make to encourage people to play other areas. That’s just forcing them to “or else”.

It’s a negative style of making people go to other areas that they don’t enjoy or find less interesting than others, Instead of adding more incentive.

I just kept saying….“600 what?”
Units? What are the units even measured in?
Meters? cm’s? Inches? Feet?

Come on now. I’m all for more comprehensive patch notes but you are being ridiculous.

600 range UNITS. The name of the unit is meaningless. 600 feet. 600 meters. 600 miles. 600 gerbils. It doesn’t matter as there is no hierarchical distance system in the game, only a singular range unit.

I’ll admit, I’d not played guardian for a while, so my comprehension of 600 just seemed strange to me. Apologies.

However, my chest clarification stands firm. Still unsure about this.

their patch notes suck.

off topic i know but it needs said.

Vague is the word I would use. Just really really vague.
To the point of it not even being worth posting.

Yes, I agree.
After all the patch notes are verified and posted, they still lack the ability to create detailed, non-confusing, straightforward notes.
I don’t even play warrior, and reading over this:

Vigorous Shouts: This trait has been fixed to properly affect allies within a range of up to 600.

I just kept saying….“600 what?”
Units? What are the units even measured in?
Meters? cm’s? Inches? Feet?

A tad bit more clarity helps a whole lot in the long run.

Well, before a dev chime’s in. I’d like to say this:

Having the chest not spawn used to be a bug…Are you saying it’s now a feature?
I remember them saying chest spawns weren’t tied with DR and it was an underlying problem with something else that needed to be resolved.

That was the last I heard of it…and now it’s common place for a chest not to spawn. Which…is strange. It’s like ‘reward-gating’ your content…not sure why?

ArenaNet has stated that they do not want to make twitch reactions; they don’t want to make giant sweeping changes to classes at once. But during my times playing mmorpgs over the past, that has kinda been what has made mmorpgs interesting for so long. That feeling of “Oh crap rogues are going to be gods this patch!” or “Warriors just got nerfed to hell!” was kinda interesting I’m not saying that this is a good idea, I’m just saying that this is an idea that I kinda liked in a weird way.

Discuss!

On the question of “straying away from twitchy reactions on large sweeping changes”…you do realise that Ascended gear did exactly this?

It wasn’t meant to be launched as soon as it did – even going as far as to say they didn’t have it at launch because it wasn’t ready. It added a new tier of gear simply because people were reaching the ‘complete’ end game too fast (getting that legendary).
(It’s in one of the blog posts that this was the reason)

Obviously, retention is in their best interest so they added that to keep people busy through FoTM, while they work on the rest of the ascended content that should have been introduced as a full package, instead of a drip by drip process.

Fixed a bug on certain world boss chests that was causing them to drop fewer rewards than intended. These chests can now only be looted once per day, to encourage players to fight multiple bosses and spread out across the world.

Does this mean that the chests will not spawn after doing that event more than once in a day, or just that the loot is subject to DR after?
(asking since in the last 30mins doing Maw event spawned no chest for a handful of people)

Because in other games debuffs often do not stack! As simple as that.

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order to get maximum performance. Sure it would be nice to be able to track each bleed stack by each player. But this puts a big load on the system.

A more pragmatic solution would be to have one bleed (object) for each player on a mob as I described somewhere else.

Actually, Looking at the GW2 wiki, only 3 conditions stack in intensity.

But I know in other MMO’s you’re able to stack DoT’s upon DoT’s, of different types and stacks. They may not all be "debuffs"** but they serve the same function.

**Though, GW2’s conditions are not all debuffs…of Vulnerability, weakness, blind, freeze, and blind, only vulnerability stacks in intensity

Actually this is not true and is something we are actively looking at. We have a number of solutions that we are talking about and when we are able to figure out which one will have the least impact on balance, performance, and testing we will put that solution in place as soon as possible.

Jon

So, this is confusing.
Colin says, you’re “not currently looking at it” – while you’re saying you’re “actively looking at it”. Which is it?
I can understand if your plans change relative to shifting needs of the community, but does that also mean that you guys only just picked up on the issue when it was bought up in an interview?

  • If you say you’ve been actively looking at it, then has Colin done the rest of your team a disservice by saying you haven’t?
  • If you haven’t been actively looking at it, then is that an admission that you’re masking the issue or haven’t taken notice of player’s concerns about it when they were mentioned previously?

It can’t be both.

It is really disheartening hearing that this is not even being looked into.

You’re at a job, where you work maintenance for most of the machinery in a large factory. I mean couple of city blocks big. Your boss comes up to you on the first day of the week and hands you a list of twenty items which need to be fixed that week in order for you to get paid. You’re at the fifth thing on the list when someone who works in the department you’re currently in tells you there’s a problem with a valve.

“Is it not working?”
“No, it’s just acting like it’s not open all the way even though it’s not turning open any further.”
“I’ll look at it when I have time.”

Of course, you still have fifteen things on the list, or no paycheck. Since it’s actually not outright stopped it’s lower on priority. So you move on and the next day you’re stopped by the same person from yesterday.

“Hey, you said you’d look at that valve.”
“I didn’t get around to it, I have these other things to do.”
“Whatever, you just don’t care. Lazy bum, why do you even get hired?”

Tell me what motivation you have to actually go out of your way to look into that valve now.

In light of this analogy, (it’s a good one), let’s flip it back onto GW2.
Would you consider Ascended gear, addition of FoTM, Flame and frost living story, preview in TP, of higher priority than checking overall class balance or broken class traits/skills?

Personally, All that extra content I’d consider as fluff, but it looks like it’s higher up on the agenda.

I feel like the majority of this thread is bashing on the developers for not fixing everything at once. If you hate it so much then don’t play, if you want them to fix it sooner support them through gem store and post suggestions on how to fix it instead of just demanding some fix you may/may not like. Ideas work together, slandering doesnt work at all.

PVE and some encounters in wvw need cond stack fixes so cond builds can be more useful, spvp only needs adjustment to cond removal for balance but cond dmg in tpvp and spvp is fine as is imo.

I think it’s a little naive to say that ultimately buying more gems will produce faster fixes. This is also increasingly difficult when people are not happy about specific aspects of the game, or when developer/staff mentality is defensive. (see: Perceived loot thread)

I think the main point isn’t bashing devs for not fixing it – I think it’s more about adding a feature in game, and then realising it’s not working as it should, and that there’s almost no room for movement on improving it – considering they mentioned it was going to be released “when it’s ready”, we’re seeing things like this pop up, because it wasn’t ready.

wild question:

Knowing that conditions (probably boons as well) require a lot of bandwith, does this also mean that this causes implications in WvW with multiple players throwing a ton of conditions and boons up at the same time.

Is it a silly presumption to make that they’ve got their hands tied with improving WvW too when they’re having to manage the traffic of conditions and boons, let alone PvE events/dungeons/champions?

Also if you agro more than three mobs at a time thats on you and a player skill issue not a gear issue, its not like mobs are super tightly grouped in this game its very easy to control agro if you look where you are going and dont run blindly then stop out in the open while you have 30 mobs chasing you.

Not exactly, fire off an attack at any mob in open world and watch one or more of the same kind get red crossed swords over their head. The game loves to throw multiple mobs at us just because it can.

Digi is correct. Just to add to this – go to wayfarer hills, to the Maw event area, and attack a single moa standing in a group – attacking one, aggro’s all within a specific radius of attacked mob.

It’s not about skill there at all.

For a grand total of 84. And that’s only the ones that have visible icons (that I remember). So, at launch, we have DOUBLE the number of things being tracked to WoW being launched. This is PROGRESS.

Will the developers make it better? They have in other games, why believe they can’t (or won’t) do it here? Keep up the complaints, but don’t be sassy about it.

We have to remember, “MORE” does not necessarily equate with “BETTER”.

The difference between other games and GW2 was the emphasis on the lack of a trinity or dedicated roles. This in turn means that anyone and everyone can roll a DoT build no-matter the profession and they are constantly encouraged to use conditions.

Herein lies the problem – we’re being constantly pushed to use conditions (one of the things they touted a lot when talking about their combat system) on a method/tech that is “too expensive” to elaborate and expand on.

I think that if they say they’re not going to do anything about it, what else are players expected to think?

Some Devs need to learn not be so defensive when confronted with issues in their game. If there’s a problem, we only want it resolved. We’re not asking for the moon and stars.

After being told we’re all behind some massive conspiracy, and being told it’s all in our heads, the truth came out, but being so sure that nothing was wrong in the game was just a naive way of thinking when so many contributing facts could have cause a spectrum of issues.

Being openminded from the outset would have caused a lot less ruckus.

I wish we could have log files to send them, this feature is no longer available. That system would greatly improve information players were able to provide. Aside form that i know most games give GM’s the power to spawn any item in game or mob. Knowing this I would think that they could simply spawn tons of mobs and become invincible, and see the drop loot tables effect. The problem however i might see with this is:

a. It would be server/time/area/mob specific.
b. It would be a very long project as you would have to have them use various amounts of MF. This includes MF gear, food, etc.

I’m only slightly familiar with programming but I would guess that they could also check the programming itself. But this can be very tedious and any changes can have a chain reaction. In short I don’t have a perfect answer, as I’m sure neither do they. All we can do is provide the best “player based” info we can and hope for the best. There are so many variables to check in this game, it could take some time. Something many people do not wish to wait for. As for me, I’m still here in Orr doing the “Death…Goood!:” part of my day ^^ I know RNG is never an easy thing to make in a game, I have a good guild to keep me entertained while I wait for whats to come in this pretty amazing game.

Yeah it sounds like a monumental task and I’d love if Anet thought of some outside-of-the-box methods of trying to gather more data, like your aforementioned spawning of mobs in a select area to test. If it’s time/location based, it’s probably best for them to have 10-20 mins of scheduled downtime (servers will stay up, but login’s won’t be possible) and a handful of GM’s port to each stationary champion location and kill them to see what loot they get on average. Random idea. May not even work, but they’re not even sure what’s causing it so anything is better than nothing.

Just to focus on your last sentence there – the problem isn’t so much with RNG. People are just really, really peeved because of the DR. More importantly, DR infused with RNG which is making a lot of people get no gear/loot at all, and when they do get gear/loot, it’s very bad – referring to the chest drops from mobs they recently added, the Champion/vets not giving any loot or trash loot, and the chest from dragon events not spawning because of DR.

I’d be cool if they just came out and said, “hey we have a problem with loot. From patch notes you’ve probably seen we tweak loot from time to time, so we’re working on a fix. Until then loot will be pretty terrible, sorry, but rest assured this will get fixed asap”…So far its more like “you guys are crazy, there’s nothing wrong. We never changed loot before. You’re probably not getting kill credit”

I guess, all i’m asking is that they be realistic.

There is no degradation of effort in the posts. I simply am stating that “I did X with X and got X” is not proof. If true, yes it can be helpful but how can that be proven? In my mind it is just as constructive as the posts with pics/videos, but in the end its about provable information. When Arenanet looks through these they will most likely compile data they can visually see, as the saying goes “seeing is believing”. That’s not to negate the information people post, but as I said as far as visual evidence, evidence that is unbiased and “in your face” type of evidence, this is most likely what they will focus on. I do not discourage people from posting, but truly if you delete the hate threads, the threads where a very small data collection was done, then truly there is very little they can use.

On a side note, when I traveled into Iraq I was wearing armor from Vietnam which cannot stop anything larger than a pistol. I mentioned that to my commanders and platoon leaders, they agreed it was unsatisfactory but said its what we have until we get better. Around 6 months later we did get the plate armor, and slowly things improved. The same can be said for the game. But simply complaining, and I’m not directing that toward anyone specific, is not constructive.

Understood.

So…errm, why are they asking us at all for any information at all if nothing can be proven and they have all the resources at their disposal to debunk our posts? (not checking every account, but lets say a sample of 100 accounts – filter last vet/champ kills – filter the loot obtained from them. I assume they’d have this amount of data since they run so many decisions and tweaking choices off “metrics”. And I guess if you have limited metrics/data, you’re more likely to make unreliable choices)

While it’s true image, pictures, video is a loose representation of proof, what else do we as players have?
While we can comment on our own perceived drops we can’t say what Anets backend system is doing.

Most of this thread is just he said/she said. There’s only about 1 page of actual evidence from people who farm regularly

There goes my thoughts that you were level-headed too.
There is tons of information spanning more than “about 1 page” – including ones with info on what gear they have on (MF on or off), some with dates of farming, some with screenshots to reinforces legitimacy of the data they give.

Intelligent people are more level headed about even the most serious of things. An open and clear mind allows for clear and precise thought. The players in the forums start off with anger, lead into rants, and degrade others.

Lets say you’re asked to relay information on the quality of weapons being issued to troops. When you bring that information back to your commander…would you expect him/her to tell you you’re delusional and that you’re trying to fabricate some conspiracy?

It’s not a level-headed way of responding after a request. So as much as you think the players that post in this forum aren’t thinking first, the devs seem to be in that same boat. Maybe not responding with anger and rants, but instead with ignorance while at the same time degrading people’s effort for collection of data.

What can we can do?

Unfortunately, Nothing.

If we don’t like the way Dynamic events are and would like some real quests, we can’t do anything about it. We may have purchased the game but that doesn’t mean we can mould it completely.

Devs were way to headstrong in trying not to be “that other MMO”, they missed out on just trying to do fun things in game, no matter if it’s part of the average MMO staple or not.

I’d wager the reason why no-one ever sticks in hub towns is because there are no quests, events or fun things to do in those main hub towns.

January and February are actually our biggest updates to date. They’re even bigger than all the stuff we did in October, November and December"

Has this/Will this hold up to all the spiel they gave before the patches started rolled out?

So far, from what I’ve read, and seen, it seems that it’s not going to live up to all that hype (again). Considering they created a whole island for November (I know that the island is pretty much useless – but still a whole island nevertheless) it’s a lot to contest against.

We already know a living story is in place, and that more things are in the way….but I doubt that will all be unveiled for the end of Feb. I’d totally see this as completely reasonable if they said in the next 4-5 months – but they explicitly referred to Jan and Feb.

btw. It can be said fixes are questionable as “updates”…Personally, I wouldn’t class “fix-broken-in-game-features” as an update. The same reason why I wouldn’t class fixing a broken feature on my phone as an “upgrade” if it was always broken..but obviously…that’s personal opinion

I’ll admit, the only, single time where I felt like a hero was in the intro-scene (the back-story animated scene) and the instanced boss you fight before being let out in the “real server”

Its a good setup, but from there on, you become less of a hero and more of a lackey running errands. It’s border-lining the way GTA used to set you up as a partly awesome character, then resorting to running errands for everyone in the city.

“Wahhh – Help! We need you to reunite Destiny’s Edge!”
“Wahhh – Help! We need you to defeat Zhaitan”
“Wahhh – Help! Do this thing and then report back to me while I do nothing”
“Wahhh – Help! There’s risen all over Claw Island…Go clean that stuff up”

(That last one is actually EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING on account of the General by the main gate just shouts orders, even as things are unfolding, he’s just standing there. And he’s a Charr too – that felt completely out of character)

poss loot drop fix, check your clocks

If you’re not receiving loot from a champ/vet, it’s most likely because you’re not getting kill credit. We’re currently working on some improvements to this so that it will be easier to get rewards when you kill a creature.

Oh, I get it. So while I thought I was killing those vets on my own, it was my invisible friend taking kill cred and getting that loot.

Seems legit.(!)

I think you also may need to correct that inaccurate response to bad loot/no loot drops.

I wasn’t aware that anyone bought this game for shiny loots or the ability to farm. If you did, I didn’t see many ads or reviews that suggested this would be a farming game, anyway.

That’s a bit of a strange statement to make. Surely you buy a game to have fun and gain rewards for doing tasks whether that’s killing a big boss, or spending countless hours farming enough mats to successfully craft an item. I don’t think anyone buys an MMO for an oldschool “Well done, you win game! Thanks for playing.” screen after taking on the final boss.
The correlation for time spent and rewards given shouldn’t dwindle as fast as it does here. If it does, then expect the player’s interest to match that correlation. Also, if you thought that people wouldn’t farm in an MMO, especially one when farming is the only way to getting the legendary and skins to make you look different/cooler than everyone else then I’m not sure you were reading details on the correct game.

If you’re still unaware about this, please check the wiki on dungeon tokens/dungeon gear, and how to get your legendary.

So the question here is this a bug or is this really DR we’re talking about. Because I’m not sure. I tend to get pretty good drops most of the time and I know other people who do as well. And I know people who get really bad drops. That doesn’t sound like DR to me, but more of some sort of bug that needs to be found and fixed.

Well that’s part of the problem, we as players, have. We can’t tell how bad DR is, or if it’s working at all unless it’s pointed out in plain sight. We’ll never be able to tell, yet we’re being asked to give info about “questionable drops” when we know nothing about the system that’s causing those questionable drops.
It’s causing more issues to a majority of the players and should, based of it’s complexity and faltered bot/exploit prevention, be removed until it’s working as intended.

Still, no-one can answer how killing dragons can be considered as exploitative. Server guesting won’t make it an exploit, when you have to contribute to the fight to be eligible for the chest. Also, why is DR effecting chests when MF doesn’t?

I bought the game for other reasons, most of them supported by what I read about the game. —snip--
Trying to make this game into something it’s not probably isn’t the best way to play it.

Well hey, I bought the game because of all the hooplah about it not being like all the other MMO’s. Got it. Played it (still playing it now but a lot less). Watched it as it started progressing into all the other types of MMOs it had talked about not being.

Sometimes I wonder whether the programmers’ time would be greatly freed up if they didn’t have to resolve such a big problem such as DR.

Checking the stickied post here:

Shows that the devs are genuinely as baffled as the players.

I am not against DR to stop bots but give normal players the means of avoiding it/knowing about it…

The thing is, it doesn’t stop bots.

In context:

  • Bot farms -> DR hits -> Bot continues farming -> DR hits harder -> Bot continues farming
  • Player farms -> DR hits -> Player finds another place to farm -> DR hits harder -> Player gives up on playing.

It’s been said by Anet in a recent post (I cant remember which) that the reason why it’s happening to dragon-chests is to curb exploits. I can imagine thats the whole reason for its addition to the game.

At the same time, “to curb exploits” is the blanket statement and overall phrase of the day/week/month when they add something in that will be at a disadvantage to normal players.

What I’m feeling now is that DR is just a glorified “stamina” system as implemented by a large sector of the Korean action-based MMO types.

There I thought GW2 was trying not to be the average MMO…it’s worse. They’re trying and mirror annoying features from other MMOs.

If it’s not working, then remove it…at least until you test it continually (and i seriously emphasise the testing part) and can say its working as intended, because it’s only having a detrimental effect on the ordinary player.

Orb’s of power seemed to not be working as intended, because of a number of reasons (Both technically and when the orb feature was in the midst of real players and unfortunately hackers).
So they took it out.

We’ve heard DR has quite a complex method of calculating when it should kick in. We’ve also seen has effected chests (I’m sure it was meant to/has been all along -but surprise, surprise! MF doesn’t effect chests, so we’re all boned on that one). It’s evident that since its introduction, it’s not working as well as it had been planned.

So why is there a huge broken feature in game, that’s seems (from a player’s point of view) way too complex to iron out bugs for the majority of players, and not working as intended?

Side question: How the hell would one exploit dragon’s for DR to even be added to chests? Does that mean the dragon timer site is an aid to exploits?

Pay specific attention to the complete dump of ectos & other mats

What do you all think? Does this mega-grind make a player worthy of wielding a legendary weapon?

Personally I view this as the most ridiculous tedious method of obtaining anything in a game. I’m also glad I didn’t dedicate all this grind and time to obtaining one of these (as they are becoming more common)

A bot is more likely to get a legendary than myself.

I think more emphasis on profession balance in relation to general fun-factor.
Some professions are not working as intended and I think they hamper the fun people could be having.

That and removing the crazy DR system, which apparently “is to stop exploiters” (honestly, it’s causing more problems for the general playerbase than it is catching exploit loopholes)….but generally hurts everyone.

IMO Anet went against their manifesto (& I'm glad)

If they were going to break their manifesto all along (they would have been planned well in advance) then why did they put a manifesto up or keep churning out the “not like other MMO’s” philosophy at all?

Isn’t it the issue that they said one thing but did another?

I would be fine if they said what would actually be viable to deliver and work from there and I personally think they didn’t have to tote around the status of being “revolutionary” in the MMO genre. Even if they didn’t outright say it, they sure did imply it.

I literally started dozing off trying to get enough green logs and onions and whatnot

God…I thought I was the only one.
I like the psychology behind the idea— but i’m not sure it’ll work for a long period of time. All in all, it’s the standard “kill 10 rats” or “fetch 10 hides” quests from other MMO’s creeping in. Best way to solve the grind is to get rid of the number entirely and reward us on something skill-based but that doesn’t take up hours of your time.
