Guardians have aegis and blinds, wich are far better than straight healing. The point is, guardian already have a lot of supportive tools, and a healing trait wouldn’t change that.

Healing is already op as hell as far as tankiness is involved ( see: spider queen auto attack solo, arah p2 no dodges). It’s just that when you’re good at the game, you don’t need the training wheels of being tanky via your gear.

Selfless daring being the only one remotely usable, and you have to use a dodge (hint: dodging a 7K attack instead of outhealing it with 3 dodges is better). Writ of the merciful has no place in pve and little/niche use in pvp as well. It also requires you/people to stand in that circle and hopefully die in the process. Battle presence is just bad.

I’d be sad too if I couldn’t bring my mesmer to that 4 warriors party, you’re missing out a lot.

Well anything is possible… especially since who ever hacked me deleted my characters. I see no logical reason for someone to do that. In this game most people get hacked for their gold and having their character used as a temporary gold seller. Don’t really see how a deletion would benefit the hackers what so ever, maybe they did it just for fun, who knows.?

That taunt system worries me. I worked a lot to be a good guardian ( still learning, but I’m reliable in dungeons), and one of the things I love doing is using binding blades efficiently. Now, all the bad will just use their taunt skill and my job will be ruined. Also, kittening rp tanks everywhere. Meh.

Actually in 2 of my last fractals we had people switching traits and armor without saying a word, a shoutheal ptv war and a cleric water/arcana ele. At least you can’t really die, but it doesn’t make the fight interesting and they could at least warn us, but meh. I just keep dying at the cannon part anyway so can’t complain about people surviving even with tankier gear :P

I already said that here, but I still don’t get the ad hominem of " you have no life". If you don’t, you probably don’t care, so it’s pointless, and if you do, you probably don’t care about someone saying you don’t as well, so..

Well, it’s not like ad hominem are supposed to be useful and well thought in the first place.

It’s stickied as DPS because it still does a good damage output, but the meta berserker guardian build is indeed really supportive, you should be fine with it.

You may want to add if you’re on EU or NA servers.

renewed focus gives you more burning uptime and more UC uptime at lower levels, so it would be better. Tome of wrath is a dps loss. Hounds are okay, i guess.

simply use 2/6/2/0/2 with 2 spare traits. As you don’t need points in zeal, put the 2 points in either virtue for instance condi removal ( useful to leave combat and stuff) or a dps line ( puting them in zeal but without zealous blade or valor for focused mind maybe? Then go sword shield/ focus, i’d say energy sigil on focus if you use it as a last-moment survival ability. You’ll have plenty of aegis with retreat ( esp. if you trait for superior aria), f3 and f3 refresh.

Agony is a fractal mechanic. There’s no such thing in dungeons. It looks like you’re really inexperienced with that ( no offense), see gw2dungeons.net for informations. I can help you doing arah for your first time, if you’re eu.

critical strike 13, invigorating precision. I wouldn’t advice using that, though. Mostly, learn to dodges the animation/use blinds/ interrupts. A good thief is also a thief who knows what to do and when to stealth/ break defiance/ do thiefsploits. It all comes down to knowing the encounter. Try 5/6/0/3/0 for hard bosses if you need more breath.

If d/p, interrupt bp+hs combo every time you can. Bait breakstuns with cc’s and a few weak condis, and save a fear to finish them off. If the thief is good/ specced into SA, you can’t do much sadly.

May I add that this build, and conditions builds in general, won’t work in pve if you’re not soloing?

If the game was meant for baddies, someone as pro and insightful as you shouldn’t waste your time. Us scrubs and noobs simply can’t understand your superiority.

Hammer is mainly not used in dungeon because it has no burst. Greatsword dps is inferior, but on short fights, it pulls ahead for a lot.
@synthyourlife: the knockbacks on hammer are all useless, as you want to keep foes close to you, and they are dps loss. It leaves you using hammer auto attack, wich is totally inferior to greatsword hb or axe auto attack. Sword/axe is probably the 2nd worst set ever ( first would be mace/axe).

I wear soldier’s gear on my guardian regardless of what I’m doing. If I wanted max dps, I’d have rolled a warrior.

How does reducing your output make it more exciting?

oxtred’s post above me is the truth – celestial is terrible for PvE, but good in PvP and WvW.

It’s actually pretty crap in WwW as well since the power cap is much, much higher and pure power/ condi specs are far more viable than jack of all trades master of none kind of things. Having a bit of celestial can be beneficial, but full cele specs are less useful than their raw power counterparts.

Celestial is a pvp gear. It’s bad in both WwW and pve.

I would call Zerker hardly a self support build. It most certainly does allow You to kill mobs fast, but You cant solo Orrian Champions with it, now can You? With that build of mine here? Sure thing.

The most common ( and also, best) setup is berserker with scholar runes.

There’s a lot of small variations, but the core go-to build is 6/6/2/0/0 or 6/6/0/0/2, berserker armour, trinkets and weapons. For staff, take Internal fire, Pyromancer’s alacricity, Persisting flames, Bolt to the heart, Arcane lightning and Tempest defense, and then Blasting staff in the arcana line. If scepter/ focus, take Burning precision and Conjurer, and swap the last air trait for Air training. Then take Stone splinters in earth. The staff build is higher dps and easier rotations, the scepter build is more might for your party and more utilities.

That’s a quick overview, but if you have any questions I’ll answer them.

Yeah, please remove everything doing damage in the game until we kill mobs with retaliation only. Or maybe confusion, it’s op as hell now, 33% more damage.

If it’s for dungeons, then it’s pretty bad ( yeah ok you get a kitten if you write bad followed by as ) as support comes from other things than healing ( offensive support via might, fury and vuln stacking and defensive support via projectile reflection, for instance). For solo pve, you can go whatever, but you’d still have better results with another gear set.

If you still want to give him the best necro build, go for 6/6/0/0/2 dagger focus/warhorn. Utilities vary, mainly 2 wells+ sig of spite.

Let people play how they want. You have to teach them why they would want to play a support berserker build, that’s all. Don’t go all mad on RP tank healing condi staff mace torch guard, tell him he could be more useful playing something else. There’s tards everywhere and you can’t change that, there’s also leechers and afkers in open world, just focus on those who can actually learn something from you.

tl;dr: If they play how they want and you want to change their gameplay, change what they want to do.
