Shortly put, bait stunbreaker and when shadowstep/blink is on cooldown, try to catch the thief/mesmer after a dodge with a bull’s charge+ hundred blades. If you can predict steal or mirror blade blink combo, and manage to whirlwind out of it, that’s a lot of damage avoided and a lot of your damage landed.

At least it’s not a longbow.

I enjoy playing ele after playing engineer for a bit more than a thousand hours. The class is fun, the rotation are involving and there’s that feeling of putting things on fire like engi does. You can overcome the squishiness with practice. Guardian is, in my opinion, a great class, but it’s mostly about defensive support so the gameplay is really different from engineer. Thief would take a spot of an engineer in a meta comp, so I guess you could try it. They do things really differently though.

The other classes all have their flavor obviously, but if you’re looking for similarities with engi, I’d look toward ele/thief more.

Stealth, easy defiance management, vertical mobility, insane on land mobility, stuff like that.

Even at 2600 armor, icebow hits more than 5k. 8k is on the low end, 12k is average.

People posting criticism ( and by that I mean constructive, documented criticism) are usually the people who love the game and want it to get better. Those who don’t care stopped posting long ago or just come for a sarcastic comment like I do. Some QQs are based on misconception of the game ( where’s my trinity, thief too strong, players are toxic and mean), but those threads are dismissed by experienced veteran players anyway. However, balance issues and complaints about anet and NCsoft politics be it economical or simply the way they handle communication, are valid complaints. Don’t make everyone posting a fool because of a few haters. The proportion of not so intelligent people on the forum isn’t higher than the rest of the world.

1) All classes are expected to bring support oriented builds with dps oriented gear. That’s what the meta is about.
2) Dungeons difficulty is really reliant on your knowledge, so it seems fairly hard at first and too easy after a few runs.
3)No. There’s braindead afk farming in open world, though.
4) The “fit everywhere” comp for a full tour would be ele, ele, guardian, thief, warrior. Mesmers aren’t used much in casual runs because portal strats are more stressful and risky and you miss half the loot.
5) Sorry, I’m lazy.

No. Not in pugs, at least. In a coordinated group, a mesmer/ high multiplier class like thief could take it since the boss lasts less than one LH rotation. LH builds aren’t really that popular anymore, though.

Everytime you do a fractal level equal or above your PRL (personal reward level), you’ll gain 1 level up to level 50.. For instance, if your PRL is 3, and you do a fractal 4, you’ll be level 4. You would level up by doing a 10 as well. However, a fractal 2 or 1 won’t change your level.

You’ll always have stupid people, meta or not. If you don’t like playing efficiently, create your own group. If you want something specific, don’t join a random group and ask them to be what they are not. I thought that was common sense.

“Efficiently” is just a pleasant way to “the right way” according to farmers. Not everyone measures enjoyment in gold/runs per hour.

Wich is exactly what I’m saying. If you don’t enjoy maximizing your speed completion, gold per hour, or whatever, you’re not playing for efficiency. And if you don’t, then you don’t want to play with those “farmers”. Also, people don’t necessarily play berserker support builds only for the g/hr. I play it because it’s more useful for my group.

1) Eles and guard should contribute blind as well. Knockdown would be more useful in my opinion but it depends on the group dps. Just stay in the sandstorm and give might.

2) Comes down with practice. Though, unexperienced players makes it harder to melee because they stand in boss hitboxes or spam useless graphic pollution ( best exemple would be guardians using f1 on bosses). You’re expected to melee as much as you can, especially as a phalanx warrior. No melee= no greatsword= no might. Obviously, it’s better to have you ranging than dead in most cases. In mai trin, I’d rather have you dead to be honest. Keep practicing melee and adapt to the group. If no one is supporting you and you’re the only one meleeing, know that you can afford to take a ranged weapon. If the group is clearly experienced, try to force yourself into melee range.

3) Kiting is a good idea, but it’s harder to do at higher levels. I usually do it as guardian but I guess it should be doable as a warrior. Some people have different tactics, mostly the thief perma stealthing and soloing it, so ask before.

4) Same thing, different tactics. Sarahfull gave you one, my group usually just burst it down when it’s at 75% and bring it as close as possible to 0. If we wipe, we restart. I hate the fight and I don’t want to spend time on it.

5) It should be. Take warbanner just in case.

That moment when you realize the meta is purely based on active defense and healing is by definition passive defense.

The drege agony attack always hit really hard, with or without agony. Double dodge it or dodge+ any survival skill. The boss should die in less than 30 seconds, though. The svanir shaman is also a hard hitter, although I recalled him being not so much of a threat in lower levels. Maybe your party lacked proper defensive support and you just hit attacks your party would usually absorb with aegis/protection.

Downed people can’t take a portal, however ele downstate mistform allows them to use one. Niche usefulness, but still fun to pull off. Usually, you use portal to quickly go back to trigger a special event or you run ahead while your party kills the first boss to immediately portal them to the second, for instance. Then again, it’s advanced tactics and not worth it in casual pug tours. One of the best mesmer utility skill along with portal is feedback. It’s a full projectile defense skill for 6 second, and the game is full of hard hitting bosses/mobs with projectile attack.

Mantras are pre stackable utilities. If you equip mantra of resolve for instance, you have to cast it first for a few seconds, then you get 2 charges of that mantra to remove conditions. When all the charges are gone, you have to re cast the mantra.

If you’re on EU I can show you some basic builds, utilities and tactics for dungeons when I get back from my holidays. There’s also ressources on the web, mostly gw2dungeons.net, that you should read before joining a group. Don’t forget to create your own lfg saying you’re new and inexperienced. Good luck.

I apologize for these naïve/stupid questions. But I don’t know the answer.

1. I’m a Mesmer and I love to play in Silverwastes. So, I shatter my clones often for other players to get fury buff. But, which buff is more beneficial to other players? Fury or might? I don’t like to shatter my illusions (because I get some hp regen when they’re out) and I only do it if there is benefit to others.

Both are important. Most classes have access to a bit of self fury though, and some of them lack the ability to stack might. However, your role as a mesmer isn’t oriented toward boon sharing in pve. The incidential fury you’d give is good, though.

And other classes have skills that give the same sort of buffs, might, precision, toughness. I wonder, do they all stack if I give my fury buff and a warrior uses one of his banners with might and fury?

Warriors banner are a different kind of buff. Boons stack, fury in duration and might in stacks up to 25.

2. Which is better for damage in pve? Precision or might? I love to make gear, so I have four or five different sets of gear for her. In silver wastes, I use ascended assassin stats for high precision. But, I can use the Bezerker stats for more might if that is better for me and allies near me to quickly dispatch mobs.

I guess might refers to power. Power is the stat that increase your base damage, while might is a boon that gives you power and condition damage. For direct damage, most classes are usually better off with berserker. Mesmer used to run assassin before the patch to boost the reflect and phantasm damage, however I’m not well informed on the changes of the class since the specialization update. Both sets are about fine though, especially for open world.

3. And for dungeons? I’m scared to join parties because I’m ignorant of how to do the dungeons. But, if I do go, should I go on tank/condition build? low dmg, high tanking? Should I use high precision/might (glass cannon) build for dungeon?

Ouch, that’s a tricky question. It seems like you’re really inexperienced with the way gw2 works. Nothing wrong with that obviously, as other players will help you find out, but a simple 4 5 lines answer won’t be enough to explain all the intricacies of dungeon builds. As a general rule, all classes play in offensive gear ( berserker, assassin, and sinister for solos/ high armor bosses on some classes) with support oriented trait. As a mesmer, your role is to give reflects, condition removal, and portals to help your team goes fast. Portal strats are pretty advanced though, so focus on the other points first. I don’t want to drown you into informations concerning dungeons at the moment, so I’ll keep the answer short, but you can ask me more details if needed.

tl;dr: offensive “glass canon” gear and traits with a focus on party utilities. There’s no tanks in this game

I can do any of those options because I’ve made so many different varieties of armor for her.

And I am still quite overwhelmed with the vastness of this game and there is so much to know. I know a good bit, but not a whole lot.

Wow, amazing run guys!

We barely managed to do it today with my premad party. The regen from the boss is insane. We used a poison survival ranger to keep the boss poisoned and our 2 necros used lich form after 50% to burst it down. The 2 mesmers cycling timewarp helped as well.

That why when I get in party I instantly ping all my gear Zerk Asscensed with legendary Dagger..

But there are 2 groups:
1. Ok u have 1500 ap but u can come some time they cancel vote kick
2. And second group is people who think I’m showing off …and in the end I leave them because this group is worst…they get so offended because I showed them my gear for gear check and not get kicked because of low Ap that they carry this toxic mood until the end of the dungeon….

Can your dagger stack 25 mights for the party, gives base stat boosts, provides permanent group swiftness out of combat, or help blasting?
Also dagger offhand is meh. Go focus/warhorn instead.

Renewed focus went from 2 second to 3 second invulnerability. I interrupted it myself a few times out of habit before getting used to it.

Mesmer’s temporal curtain doesn’t stack swiftness since a really long time ( to avoid running in and out and get infinite swiftness in one go). The elementalist’s trait only works with weapons and traits auras, not combos. Engineer should stack, but the 10 sec icd prevents you from spamming speedy kits.

Using a ranged weapon on mai trin is a bad idea.

I’m dead serious here. I’ve seen new players. I’ve seen how “good” they can get.

How can you argue that someone who’s put in thousands of hours can be worse than someone who’s only put in 1-2 hundred in most cases?
Sure – there are exceptions – but can you really not see the bigger picture?

Because most people in this game are so bad after 3k hours played that the sum of their knowledge is about 2 hours of me teaching a new player, so I’m sure any 500 ap guy that would listen to advices and tips would be better than a 3k, 5k, 10k hours played person that got carried for all that time. No offense meant to anyone, hours played mean nothing if you spend them waiting for 4 other people to give you your reward.

A lot of the times when i do a dungeon and join a party i get kicked out just because im a necromancer. I mean come on, what’s there even to hate about necroes? Yeah they aren’t the strongest class but seriously. I understand if it’s arah, which is pretty much a mesmer/thief/guardian/warrior dungeon, but im doing CoF and im getting kicked out. For the love of god this is ridiculous.

Well, chill is supposed to counter eles and kill them by locking their mechanic, that’s a specific condition designed against eles. That’s also why we are the only class (besides warriors) that has two traits to remove/reduce chill effect. I’m not saying it’s fair, but as far as I know, no other condi is plain counter to any specific profession mechanic.

I found a 6 months old video quickly browsing the web, it sounds doable even with the ferocity nerf. The person in the video was using 4 mantras 6/6/0/0/2, mostly auto attacking with sword. I don’t know how reliable that method is, though, as I pretty much never solo anything with a mesmer.

I’m a bit late but better late than never.

For your question: you usually pay when entering the party/ dungeon and then wait for the group to bee complete, then the seller will kill last boss or trigger the end reward for you.

I can give you the tokens you need if you tell me what dungeon to run. I’m often bored and soloing something wouldn’t hurt me, and I don’t mind giving the spots at the end. I can also teach you dungeons and common tactics, however this will be harder to organize if you’re interested as I need to find people to fill the party and it’s longer to do.
