I’ve always been a big fan of any builds X/Shield and X/Mace. Used to run Axe/Shield and Axe/Mace before they nerfed Axe auto-attack damage. Such nice control for your team when the meta was now burst focused.
With current meta on condi’s it is less useful, but still obviously has it’s place as if your team can stack condi’s on target and then you can stun and daze them into oblivion it can ravage a fair chunk of health.
P.S triple stance is where the party is at!
Part of me likes to think that Anet went, what are the WORST things we made on the WEAKEST character and then built a map around it.
Death from Above and Rampage. It’s nice to be a Warrior for 15 minutes on that gimmicky one shot of doom map.

Finally got around to sorting out our Custom Arena so come and have a play if you are interested in joining.
Mimic the Wurm stone throw, teleport back up, win.
TBH with a few tweaks it might work a bit better as a proper map.

When you get knocked off the map completely you don’t die, instead you float/warp/teleport for five seconds then get ported somewhere remote/your spawn
I love it as it is. It is hilarious to troll hotjoin or to play with your mates in a custom arena, but a proper tourny map it is not.
I thought I would try and lighten the mood with all this Skyhammer QQ going around by lifting the spirits of Warriors everywhere.

With this you don’t have to worry about skill, damage, conditions, just survive and repeatedly try and knock your opponent off something!
My personal favorite is the (imagined) look on your opponents face as your aptly named, Death From Above, trait knocks them flying off the world.

Totally agree with both of you. It is a bum fight and whoever brings the most knockback is going to win. Still quite fun though in my eyes (mainly because I’m an angry Warrior that finally sees a tiny little area in which we may do well)
Finally those fall damage traits might have a use in SPvP…
Whilst I understand where you are coming from, why can’t it be a competitive map? Because it doesn’t fit into the standard Foefire/Forest/Khylo game type that came first? People always whine about wanting more game modes, well this is pretty close to a different game mode seeing as you will have to bring totally different builds for it.
I agree that you could look at it in the way that it is whoever has the most CC and Stability should win, but in my eyes that isn’t much different to if you boil down the current meta to “whoever brings the most Condi damage and peels”.
Obviously this is a very basic way at looking at it and to be honest I’m just trying to stimulate debate about the map as it really seems to split the community marmite style (love/hate).

No idea why but this cracked me up.
I don’t understand how people can hate on this map. Many levels to move along, new builds needed (stability and knockback heavy) a really crazily overpowered secondary mechanic that can change the game, I love it.
Love seeing a player put up videos not just trying to blow smoke up their own backside, but something fun for the community

This thread is amazing. Warrior’s get one little Utility to play with to counter the outrageous Condi meta and people have a fit about it. Keep calm and carry on Necro’s.

I like Physical Training as a Trait and think Kick is a really cool trait. Think I heard Xeph on a podcast saying that it was his favorite utility to. Love the idea (especially on Asura) of you jumping up and kicking someone in the face.
I like Unsuspecting Foe, but it seems made for Valk Jewel. Might just be my opinion though.

Might be worth PMing one of the TP guys. I think they did a fair bit of testing with the Hammer + Mace/Shield Warrior with Phantaram as their whipping boy. They may have answers for the points highlighted by Defektive (slow as hell and the eternal blind spam problem)

Thanks for the input! I put it up on our guild forums and got some quite similar feedback too. Always good to hear an opinion twice, as it shows it is most likely to be better than the current.
1) Agree totally. This was one of the things that was brought up. You can certainly go with other traits here and Empower Allies is a nice touch.
2) I see what you mean. I think it is a difference in play styles. I usually am like you and like to get in the thick of it (like a Warr should!), but for this it is more for standing on the outside of a point (cliff on Foefire or Keep ledge on Forest) and spamming away, then when you are ready go in and get busy!
3) The damage isn’t that great at all. It is more to lay down some AoE fields, stack might, provide condi peels, lots of CC for the main damage dealers and also throw your hat down for some decent damage. Having tested it out a bit more it certainly isn’t toothless, but it also possibly doesn’t do enough all the time to warrant the lack of DPS.
4) Mending is nice with the condi problem right now, I just love seeing a 9/10k heal fired off.

3) I think this sums it up a lot. It is a nice idea, but until the crazy blind/condi spam dies down it isn’t viable.

Amazing post. Some absolutely cracking ideas.
- Still no source of condi removal. ( Removing condi’s through burst skills is not what I call a viable option. Especially if you have to spend 20 points into defense which is basicly the worst kittening tree ever for warrior. )
- No kind of sustain what so ever.
- Only a handfull of builds we can go since we are forced to use berseker amulet
- Barely any usefull utilities. Since we got stability/stunbreaker skills left and right on every class it’s nearly impossible to land a bulls charge now. Not to forget the frenzy nerf that happend in the past which is basicly just saying to your enemy, “I’m taking an extra 25% dmg for the next 6 seconds so all you have to do is kite me a bit and I’m a free kill !”
- We are a melee class yet we can’t even hold our ground for more then 5 seconds when we are in the middle of the battle cause we just melt instantly.Why is it that a melee class that is forced to engage into combo to hit any of his skills has no source of condi removal or sustain ?
Either make the warrior his skills hit targets easier or do something els. As how things are right now the class is unplayable.
Warriors aren’t forced to use Berserker amulet. There are builds with perma fury that can use Soldiers or Valkyrie’s.
I think Warrior’s should start thinking of something other than 100 blades.

Even though they are not the most represented profession, in yolo queue hardly any match goes without warriors (premade teams excluded).
You just answered your own question. It’s solo queue.
I know it involves twice as many resources as now for them, which might not be financially viable, but they just badly need to split Warrior in PvE/WvW and SPvP so desperately badly.
So the dust has settled a bit on the patch, I have had time to read a lot of builds by some very good players and hear what they have to say about possible uses for the Warrior.
From this (and this will be stating the obvious for many of you) the things that are causing problems right now are AoE damage and Conditions.
The embodiment of this is the Necro so I wanted to create a build that could put down some AoE damage and Condi’s whilst at the same time bringing to the table a good foil for Necro, lots of CC.

I have been a fan for the Physical Utility skills for a while now, but they just never seemed viable putting up a Grandmaster trait for them.
This build brings:
Decent AoE team peels from Warhorn (when in team fights)
Good CC
Great AoE damage with burns ticking along
The way I tend to play this is almost never engaging unless you have to, and using Kick to keep people off you, hence the Scholar Runes. You could swap out stomp for Bolas for keeping someone away from you, but I like the ability to knock people out of Sanctuary/Rez/Shadow Refuge.
If you are having trouble staying above 90% you can switch one rune (or all of them) out for Divinity Runes and the damage is still very nice.
Similarly if you like engaging more in Melee range you can swap the below traits out:
Restorative Strength instead of Great Fortitude
Deep Cuts instead of Rending Strikes

There is another variation using trip stances. I need to test it further, but it seems to be quite a good foil for destroying necros (as there seems to be at least 2 in every 5 man at the moment). You can CC them and mitigate their condi’s quite nicely.
Could also swap out Burning Arrows and swap in Signet Mastery with Sig of Stamina if you need more condi removal.
Pain about this is you can’t take Ire and Merciless Hammer.

I agree with OP that GS builds can be viable if you engage VERY carefully and understand that you need to play like a thief (get in, attack, gtfo) if you want to survive.
However, I think the boat left a long time ago on our chance to use Bulls Charge + Frenzy effectively anywhere else apart from hotjoin, and I would really suggest you do not pop Frenzy until you see the first bulls charge attack hit. Otherwise you are likely to blow your Frenzy on them before they; invuln, blink, stunbreak, dodge etc.
Also Lyssa runes is a bit of a nightmare with all the Necro’s running around. At least one of them will have corrupt boons and will see the Lyssa 6 pop and think “it’s christmas time”.
Keep the theorycrafting going though! It is my belief that we haven’t yet found the builds that Anet think are viable and geared the changes to. Might just be wishful thinking from me though!

TBH if you are running full glass (11k hp on an ele) then you shouldn’t be able to handle sustained pressure from multiple players, regardless of if it was condi damage or not.
I don’t think things have got worse in PvP, they have got better, they just are nowhere near as good as they should be or as good as other classes.
You can be just about viable in tPvP if you are a very good player, playing a build tailored to the opponents you are facing and your own team. However, another class (engi, necro, thief) can bring a “from the box” build, not be particularly skilled and still do the same jobs.
That is just what I needed to cheer me up this morning. Great play mate. Can I assume he rage quit instantly from the game?
The argument put forward that our strongest moves are telegraphed the most because they hit hard is pretty kittened from Anet to be honest.
It gets to the point where if a competent player is focussing on you well enough they can dodge or stun break almost everything you can bring to the table

For a theorycrafter, you messed up the fundamentals. Like pairing up a on-crit sigil with an on-swap sigil.
This is a mistake. Meant to be bloodlust instead of on swap!
Instead of focusing on the fact I put up two builds in one day (shock horror!) does anyone else have any constructive criticism of the build?
Teach your kids Excel and basic math, force them into theorycrafting.

The new changes are like christmas for theorycrafters. Sadly I am going away tomorrow morning, otherwise I’d be caning these changes for the next week.

The first one is below and was inspired by a build a guildmate put up before the changes. I’ve always been a bit annoyed with the waste of Condi damage if you spec into arms and take Axe/Shield + GS, so with this you get a bit of condi pressure to go with your burst.

Not at the moment. Obviously you will not be in our First Team if you are low rank, but we like to nurture low rank talent and new starters. Even the top guys had to start at a low Rank at some point…
As a warrior I’d like to put my hands up and say it isn’t a difficult class. It is quite a simple class.
There is a HUGE difference between a difficult class and an unbalanced class.
Yes Warrior is hard to play with regard to beating other people, because it is so underpowered and sadly quite useless. However, the underlying mechanics are not difficult at all.
IMO you have to look for Engi and Ele for the difficulty factor. Far more skills compared to just the two weapons and utils that Warriors have.
Like a lot of people have said here. If this is intended then they have shot themselves in the foot.
The length of time it has taken has meant people had got used to it and even adopted it as part of the game play on places like Khylo.
To me this is just another example of Anet trying to “dumb down” the game and make every single class even. There is a huge difference between even and fair. Some classes should be able to teleport, some shouldn’t, the ones that shouldn’t should be able to do something else etc etc
The cash comes from the PvE-Players. So it’s important for NC-Soft to satisfy and entertain this sort of players.
+1 this. They buy the majority of stuff from the gem store, they get 100000 devs.
We get a handful, but at least they are dedicated.
