Blackgate would be a great choice. We don’t have huge guilds on our server, most are medium to small sized so you’d fit in great here. We also have a very active PvE population with many people doing PvE. We have good organization in WvW and currently sit at the top of tier 2. And no q’s for WvW except on reset night!
I don’t see any scenarios where there will be massive ratings swings anymore unless whole servers take a week break in wvw or something. The upper tiers have basically evened out. Population has dropped for WvW across the board so that is less to recruit from and I don’t see any guilds really changing servers that haven’t already done so.
It is easier said then done to attack us in EBG. We have more around the clock coverage then you so our stuff is better upgraded. That makes SoR the easier target in EBG if you are IoJ. So I can’t blame them.
Yes I’ve said multiple times in older posts that the WvW titles are stupid grindy to get. The kills title takse 250 THOUSAND. At my current rate on my warrior that would take at least 2 years to finish.
IoJ was in tier 1 for a single week weren’t they? Or am I remembering incorrectly. HoD and ET died and servers below them had to move up. They are not a “ex t1 server” by any means.
Most things in WvW now revolve around portals. I remember when defense used to actually matter in the meta game, now any good defense can be broken with a single mesmer laying a portal down in the lords room. I remember defending lords rooms for 3 hours before portals become so common that even commanders have pugs do them now. The commander just needs a reliable mesmer, he then says “PORTAL STACK HERE” and the pugs listen and go through the portal when its ready to be used. I hate the way it is now.
edit: Obvious culling issues play a big part in this. It remains to be seen if they are so effective once culling is fixed. Unfortunately its been going on for months with no progress made. I also like the idea behind portals but it has made wvw stagnant lately, its all about who can portal bomb first.
Nice videos TW and HB. I love defending against huge numbers like that. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen as often as it used to. Everyone just wants to zerg to the next place.
There needs to be a different thread for all this guild/supposed hack drama. Seriously, we have a good matchup here why don’t we discuss how we are enjoying it and get some information on where the good fights have been.
There is no guild hack drama here.
You have a guild on your server that continues to use exploits against us. We do not know if they are hacking or simply glitching through the walls but their members continually keep popping up in locations that they should not be able to reach. We have reported them and will continue to report them as long as they continue to use these sleazy tactics against us.
All we can do is report them in game and on here in hopes of other players taking the initiative to report them as well. Some of the members of Sanctum of Rall are becoming upset with the lack of action against the exploiters and their emotions are spilling on to here, I will apologize for that.
I have seen one confirmed “exploit” (wall jumping) from Icoa LAST WEEK so to claim they “continue to use exploits” is a blatant falsehood with no proof behind it. Anyone can reach the spot in that screenshot posted if they were in the tower before it was flipped or your server mates wouldn’t have been able to get there themselves.
Don’t count on it. They admitted they removed them mainly because of hacking. It was too easy for a single player to hack an orb to either gain an advantage for the server or ruin that servers reputation. So unless they fix the hacking (or make orbs worthless but that would be defeating the purpose of orbs) I don’t see them coming back.
No downed ability should allow one to go through their tower door and get ressed back safely from downed, no other class has this ability why should eles?
You’re partially right. Eles are the only one who can do this instantly after being downed but they aren’t the only class who can make it through a portal. Warrior can get up but it takes awhile to even be usuable. Warrior can be CC’d while in Vengeance. And it takes a miracle for you to not be killed before you can even activate Vengeance so it is easily counterable. So good luck getting into the door unless you died a foot away from it.
The tiers are overall pretty balanced now except a tier or two in the lower brackets. So to get variety you’d have to either move up to a higher tier or drop down. We’ve already seen the consequences of this, it leads you to getting blown out or you stomping an opponent with zero competition, none of these things are fun or challenging to serious wvw’rs.
That is exactly why we need to somehow balance the populations of all severs. So like sports teams you can have a 15 v 15 instead of a 5 v 25. If every server had about the same population we would have servers akin to sports teams and we could actually compete and have a great deal of variety, who knows even random matches would be fine if all servers had similar populations.
Here are a couple of questions. Would you watch a football game of 5 v 25? Would you watch the same two teams play each other every day for a month? two months? 6 months?
To me real competition comes from the use of skill not inherent larger numbers of players. And real fun is playing a variety of difficult and different opponents, not the same one every day.
I agree with the idea that it would be better if wvw wasn’t mainly focused on who has the biggest numbers/more coverage. But in the current system, the better coverage wins. But this has gotten better, thats kinda the point of the ratings. You get matched with servers that most match your population. Of course this is never perfect but its better then it was 2 months ago IMO.
You do realize people want a middle ground between the 2 extremes right? Your only using each extreme end of the spectrum to complain about the complaining.
Some good suggestions so far has been the #1 of a lower tier swap with the #3 of a higher tier to try to avoid the same match ups for 3 weeks in a row, or at the very least do color swaps so there is SOME variety, and to help with 100% world completion for people who dont want to swap servers.
There are many ways to try to help the situation out without going back to 300k to 50k to 10K scores.
Explain to me the fundamental reason why it even matters which server you’re up against?
The goal is for your server to either Win or Lose and have fun while doing it. The matching system is supposed to create an opportunity to give each server as reasonable a chance as possible for both of those things.
If you want middle ground between the two extremes. I think we already have it. Scores aren’t blow outs anymore. You’re getting the most reasonable chance at playing against enemies that will give you a good fight without one team ROFL-stomping the others (to an extent).

Your basically saying any match up is fine. If you apply that to real world, every sunday would you enjoy seeing the same 2 teams compete…..every week? Its human nature to want some variety is all.

I don’t know, I do sometimes feel siege on top of the supply depots isn’t really intended. But then I realize attackers already have the huge advantage now that removing the ability to put siege up there would make attacking keeps/towers even more trivial.
I wish it wasn’t as easy to attack towers/keeps in this game. You can’t even get on the walls anymore since a few AOE classes totally lock the walls down and because of the obstructed bug you have to get right on the lip of wall (speaking as a warrior who uses a longbow if I am defending a tower) which means you’ll be pulled down any second and get insta burst down. This is leading to people not even bothering defending IMO.
And why are the WvW titles impossible to reach in this game? I can get titles doing an hour of PvE or Spvp but nothing for WvW. At my current rate of kills on my warrior it would take 2-3 years to get the Dominator title. A guildy has just hit 36k kills and its been 3 months. It would take a year and a half at least at his current rate to get the 250k kills title. That is stupid!
Nice IoJ. I had to laugh when someone said IoJ had weak oceanic population in a post I read in another thread. They outnumber BGs oceanics on a consistent basis and can hit 2 maps at once, very strong.
Congrats on another win BG! We were down by at least 20k when the weekend was over and we rallied and came back to take the lead! SoR was awesome to fight like usual and it was nice to see IoJ out this week alot! GG to all 3 servers.
Ok so this is in no way me speaking for anyone or my server, this is my thoughts only. Blackgate and IoJ you guys are great servers to fight against. Probably one of or the toughest I have ever fought against and I thank you for that. Don’t let the thoughts or actions of others bring you guys down. You guys are great at what you guys do, you would have to be to be tier 1 or 2. So keep up the good work and I hope to be a part of some more epic battles with all of you.
Great post, I agree. Tier 2 is pretty balanced, lots of back and forths and each server has their own strengths and weaknesses in coverage.
Well done IoJ…..I was in EBG for 10 minutes and saw you guys using speed hacks….and stealth hacks to hold a supply camp…we had 20 ppl on that camp and couldn’t take it cause of a speed hacker and perma-stealth hacker…..GG, go L2P
You can’t blame a whole server because of hackers.
It’s been such an obvious double-team that it’s almost comical. Both SoS and JQ spending most of the night just camping outside of SBI’s spawn in EB. No trebs from SM are even active.
@mishi Did you mix me up with another user? It seems like you were addressing a post I didn’t make. I never said everything is hacking. My post was about a guild with the acronym TiD who has been caught hacking/exploiting multiple times by both servers and that BG and IoJ didn’t go around calling SoR “pathetic” because of it. We reported them and moved on.
I haven’t seen Blackgate or IoJ cheat or hack this week. It could of happened or could be a misunderstanding. Let’s not turn this thread into all the others where we start shouting cheater’s, hackers, exploiters etc IoJ/BG and SoR have had a lot of fun this week in W3. BG really stepped it up today, to the point where SoR even started getting negative against each other.
Sometimes our perspective changes when we are frustrated and angry. EB today is a prime example, no matter how hard we tried, no matter how much seige we built, no matter how much we upgraded we just couldn’t gain ground against BG.
Let’s not let our angry and frustration cloud our judgement.
You can’t stop hackers, cheaters and exploiters. Calling a whole server those names is unfair. They can’t help it if they have a few that choose to play the game in that manner.
BG and IoJ it has been a blast to play against you this week, all servers have come out of the gate swinging. Keep the fights going!

Calling out an entire server for cheating based on the supposed actions of what could have been one, or only a few people who were actually involved, is misplaced and incorrect. Keep in mind that if a player sees “take the portal” in chat, they likely will, without any idea of where it’s going or how it got there.
Like all servers, BG doesn’t condone cheating and takes reports of it happening seriously. I’ll make sure someone that has the ability to look into this sees your post and screenshot. Your shot doesn’t necessarily prove anything (screenshots rarely do) but at least it’s something to go on. If indeed some form of exploit took place, I’m personally sorry it happened.
Especially considering you haven’t seen IoJ or BG smearing all of SoR because of a certain guild that has been hacking the past 2 weeks into IoJ and BG keeps.
What we are seeing happening here with SOR dominating is 2 things.
1) Sometime in the middle of last week, we really evolved our game and coordination as a server and began putting alot more emphasize on doing the right things, like keeping scouts and escorting yaks. These are boring jobs but we make sure the players doing these things are praised in teamspeak etc so it makes it a little less boring. Also Rping with your yak helps. We are simply not as lazy as last week overall.
2) Our amazing community really helps the turnout and greatly mitigates player loss to new games like planetside 2 etc. People simply love playing and hanging out here, whether its just in map chat or the server teamspeak.
This if fantastic especially considering it is not a result of any mass transfers but a pure evolution of the server wvw skill.
BGs coverage is lacking this week which is what it is mostly about.
Well the other classes can’t so why only those two? Trust me warrior not the only class with crappy downed state skills. Stop being so naive.
Not every class is the same obviously. Also why does it bother you so much? Are you going to claim this is really effecting fights out in the field? I see 1-2 maybe 2 warriors make it into a gate using vengeance a day.
YOu want to remove the best part about our downed state in WVW, using vengeance to move ourselves into a position for a res. Going through a gate is the only time I actually get any benefit from vengeance and you want to stop that. Yes it is annoying when it happens to you but usually I am perma immoblized and never even make it through the gate to begin with.
SoS q times currently are instant for all BL’s and maybe a 10-15 q for EB. But thats normal since a lot of the randoms end up in EB crying about x guild camping the jumping puzzle since they heard a precusor dropped from the chest there once.
Every zone on BG is insta Q and maybe a 5minute q on EBG and this is every week, not even on holidays. Anyone who’s been on BG the past 2 months will tell you, 3-5 hour q’s are non existant.
We’ve never had 3-5 hr queues, at most I’ve had to wait 1-1.5 hr the past couple weeks on the start of a new match. So to say we are more stacked than BG ever was… lol…
I wouldn’t expect any servers to have 3-5 hr queues anymore simply because guilds want their members to play and most of the big guilds have spread out by now.
It is clear to everyone you have way better coverage the BG ever had so if BG was “stacked” with players……
BG hasn’t had 3-5 hr Q’s in months. I rarely see q’s longer then 5 minutes (and usually only on EBG) on BG except for the first couple hours of reset.
Also, I heard that [Agg] is on your server now. I’d been wondering where our biggest WvW guild went. Funny that they bail on us when we hit T1, and now that they’re on your server, you’re in T1. Did [TDA] transfer there as well?
We transferred OUT of Blackgate when they hit Tier 1 because we did not agree with the path the majority of the guild leaders were taking. Server stacking and a LOT of bandwagons is not something we wanted. The server queue’s also spiked up to 3-5 hours at our guilds peak time. There was also hostility between [Agg] and most ex-HoD oceanic guilds. We transferred to SoS when they were tier 4, quite a while ago but it has been and still is a lot of fun. We also are anxious to fight against Blackgate hope to see you guys in T1 very soon.
It’s funny ‘cause now you’re on a server that is super stacked (way more then BG ever was), and has bandwagoners coming in every day. You believed the outside hype of BG being stacked when it was far from the truth. Which ex hod guilds are you referring to? Half the ex HoD guilds that moved here were quite frankly overhyped, dead guilds that no one ever sees in WvW or they moved to the current bandwagon SoS.
Also does any server have 3-5 hour q’s anymore? Certainly not BG in the past 5 weeks, even Fridays aren’t that long.
