Kerithlan, I appreciate your analysis but that just shows the problem with the glicko system anet set up. THe majority of people want to win their given tier each week, not focus on minute theorycrafting and paragraphs of analysis and be forced to play a certain way. And good luck getting your whole server to do one thing so you can gain 5 more glicko points every week. The system is flawed, it doesn’t work for the wvw system as it is set up currently. The fact that you can win your tier for 7 weeks straight by an average of 40k yet not move up is just dumb, I don’t care what anyone says about the ratings blah blah blah.

Alliances are pointless in this tier. So you beat BG by enforcing a strict 2v1 for a few weeks. Now one of you moves up to tier 1 and now what? If you can’t win t2 by yourself, do you expect to win t1 by yourself?

Cute nickname, but seeing how blackgate has the zerg a zombie nickname might suit your server better imo… ZombieGate? sounds kind of cool actually lol. You can even have a server battle cry “Unleash the Horde!”.

Every server in tier 2 has a zerg and is capable of fielding big zergs. That is why we are all in tier 2. Zombiegate is pretty funny though lol

Why is SoR coming into our recruitment thread trying to derail it? As of this post not a single BG poster has went into SoRs thread and said anything, yet we’ve had posts from SoR in ours trying to hijack the thread and turn it into a flame fest. We can see who is more classier just from that simple fact.

Glicko is not suited for week long matches involving 3 opponents in a tiered system. Been saying for this months now in other threads. Most WvW players do not care about the rating system, they only care if they win that weeks matchup.

Its a glicko system. Please inform us why gaining +30 points while the other 2 servers lose rating is a BAD thing? So sick of SoR trying to tell BG what we have to do. Start improving your own server before telling us how we are bad because we win and are gaining 30 rating.

You would be gaining 46 if you knew how to the system worked. If you’re happy with 30 “while the other 2 servers lose rating” and you don’t know how to maximize your efforts then you should be told how to play the game.

Since you are an expert at the system Anet uses, tell us how much the final score from all 3 servers would need to be for BG to gain 46 rating.

Anet doesn’t want you “posting about it”, they have made that clear time and time again. They have an email address set up to inform them of things like this. Anet gives people infractions for posting it on the forum, especially calling out guilds by name. It also leads to flame wars and to top it off, it isn’t something that actually matters. So your zerg is spawn camping an enemy and they are invulnerable and you can’t farm them? Big deal, the only thing they can do there is attack NOOBS who sit there and let them. I sit there and laugh at the players who do this because I am keeping them locked away in a corner where they can’t actually effect the scoreboard.

If you see TC players doing this PLEASE bring it to the light of day. I have never seen or been a part of any rubbish like this. Obviously no one can be everywhere at once though, so PLEASE inform some one on TC if this is happening. We don’t want this sort of thing going on the in the TC server.

To keep things in perspective though… it’s just a few people in that vid doing some lame/cowardly exploitation. Not a huge deal. I hope it’ll be fixed in Feb. At the same time though… behavior like this shouldn’t be defended.

Never once defended it, just pointed out its lame to whine about it since it isn’t like they are hacking into Stonemist. It is people pushed back to their SPAWN POINT and sitting in an invulnerable spot. Yeah its lame, I had SoR people do it to me earlier today in BG BL. But we were pushing them back to their spawn. They can take no territory there, they can’t attack my towers nor my keeps. If they want to sit there near their spawn entrance, fine by me! It seems like you want to farm people at their spawn and are mad you couldn’t.

I’ve seen players on SoR do this for 7 weeks straight now and I’ve seen TC players do it since they got into tier 2. Except we don’t post it on the forum every time it happens. Get over it already. It isn’t like they can actually do anything from there, you’ve already pushed them back to their spawn point. What more do you want?!?!?! I don’t get it, it isn’t like they can actually take any of your territory from that spot.

We are not going to pull out of TC BL and fight BG on two fronts. That would be a disservice to a quality opponent. If BG blows us out so be it, they earned their shot at Tier 1 weeks ago.

You got the right to do whatever you want, ofcourse.

But the result is very, very simple: you are fighting one enemy with half your force and another enemy with the other half. Instead of fighting one enemy with your whole force.

The result can be seen in the score: BG wins 33,000 ranking points and SoR looses 27,000 ranking points. This result will stay that way untill we fight differently.

A lot of SoR is still on vacation/break. I’m sure TC is having the same issue as well. We have been playing with 50-75% less of our usual forces this week and the score shows it.

I’ve been pretty sick as well so I haven’t really been able to duke it out on the battlefield.

We aren’t content with being the king of tier 2. We want to improve coverage to actually be able to compete all week long in tier 1. We can’t get to tier 1 then try to recruit, that makes no sense. So must do it while still in tier 2. We have the best all around coverage in tier 2 which means we are the best suited to try to break into t1 and stay there.

Our diehards are still chugging along but we had an issue Sat morning that destroyed any chance of us getting our more casual players into WvW this week.

Ahh man that sucks. Just surprised cause usually you can easily put up 350 or higher during NA prime.

Oh ok, I bet they thought that SoR guy was going to win as they cheered him on. But then I won the battle.

Also last night I was literally the only BG guy in TC BL and I was trying to have some fun 1v1s against some PINK ppl defending the tower/yaks by BGs spawn. Yet they would only attack me 2v1 or 3v1. Then a SoR guy comes along (TC totally ignores him as he runs by them) and the SoR guy attacks me. One of the TC even cheered for the SoR guy so it was even more satisfying when I destroyed that SoR warrior from EPIC.

The rating system is flawed and actually rewards the losers in a tier rather then the winner.

WvW would be balanced if we didn’t have massive amounts of non-US players joining US servers just so they could dominate. It’s quite cowardice IMO.

WvW is balanced. Everyone has the right to go and recruit new guilds to their server.

Actually, it’s not balanced because BG has enough people to zerg 3 of the 4 BLs simultaneously during all hours and nobody else can compete — it’s game about numbers because tactics only go so far when you’re facing multiple 50+ zergs in each BL.

Those BG players were talking about certain timezones which is Aussie primetime throughout NA EST primetime. BG is outnumbered during those times and our PP always suffers because of it.

This is the flaw with the system Anet uses, upward mobility is not there for most tiers.

I think the only issue is that the #1 server in a tier needs to win by too many points to gain rating, and the #3 needs to lose by too many points to lose rating. At certain point, you have to stomp or get stomped to move up or down. This phenomenon has caused TC, for example, who is obviously capable of being competitive in T2, to remain stuck in T3 for 5 weeks. IoJ moved down one and TC moved up one and neither tier had a blow out. So I think there’s some room in the ratings formula that shakes up the server rankings a bit more each week to more easily bring some fresh match ups from time to time.

I agree, that is also the main issue in my opinion. I am not a math wiz so I can barely understand what all the data Anet has given us on how their system works but I think it needs to be tweaked slightly. Blowouts were more common 2 months ago when there was alot more people playing GW2 and the tiers weren’t as “balanced” as they are now. But with the current way servers are, you shouldn’t need to win by 100k every week to actually have upward mobility, it just isn’t feasible.

edit: It actually was a blowout for IoJs last week in tier 2. They were behind first place by 130k points causing them to lose over 40 rating.

4/8 first place seeds will lose rating this week (the top 3 tiers first place seeds will all lose rating this week). 3 of the tiers that the first seed will actually gain rating were blowouts by those servers. Of those 3, 2 of the servers will be moving up 2 ranks (one of them into a new tier bracket and the other going from 3rd seed to 1st seed in its bracket). Interesting…

Aww, I wouldn’t take it to heart. In all honesty, BG is doing great. Your overnight crew is something fierce. I am jealous.

Just hope that you don’t get in a rut that TC did in tier 3. We only put in enough effort to win the match rather than all our effort. This caused our rating to remain flat-lined which caused us to stay in tier 3 for so long.

With the way the glicko system Anet uses works currently you have to win by blowout amounts to gain sizable amounts of rating each week. It isn’t feasible to win by 100k every week with how well the top tiers are balanced right now (unless one of the opposing servers fails to show up for the whole week). Regardless of what anyone says, the top 4 tiers are as balanced as they can be and it is much different then it was 2 months ago when blowouts were common.

Have you even looked at the scores lately for the top 4 tiers? There is no blow outs in any of the top 4 tiers (100k blowouts are a thing of the past in these tiers unless a server gives up for a week), the top 4 tiers are pretty well balanced. Blackgate has a gap in our eastern NA Primetime that we are looking to fill with fine dedicated WvW players such as yourself and your guild.We are currently lacking on Aussie primetime and NA east players. Our other timezones are pretty well covered so you’d be a tremendous help to cover one of our last remaining gaps.

How disappointing…my curiosity will never be satisfied it seems.

I’m usually in the Borderlands because I don’t really like EBG that much (multitude of reasons). But when I have been in EBG I’ve never been a fan of taking another servers main keep anyway, its right near their spawn so it is easy to defend and it usually takes way too much focus to keep trying for it. And you can easily lose other stuff while focusing on that keep. But no one listens lol.

BGs major gap is Aussie primetime time and EST NA Primetime where our stuff is taken because we have minimal defenders.
