You are missing the point by a large country mile. It succeeds because we have done it all before, we also communicate via mumble. Either way, every single temple event can and is regualrly being zerged. Apart from Grenth, which for some reason always seems to have everyone stack Champions and Veterans that do massive AOE right on top of the guy you are meant to be protecting.
Yes, over and over again, many more times than I can even say. Did you even read my post or are you just flapping your chops?
And no, I have not just played WoW. I’ve been playing MMO’s for longer than some people have been alive.
With respect, they don’t. They just take the majority of people to understand what the mechanics of the fight are, which is why Grenth usually fails. If I do a guild run on Grenth, it succeeds, if I just turn up at Grenth..it 90% doesn’t. Which is why I don’t.
Edit for post above: Warcraft stopped requiring proper coordination at WoTLK. Prior to that, with the gear that was around….you could not pug raids.
No, you are wrong. I have played MMO’s since they were conceived and I have stuck with every single one I played longer than this before I got this bored.
YOUcan’t fail. Because YOU don’t have a purpose. Other than rolling about, hitting stuff, not being, hit by stuff and rezzing other players. You can’t be good at anything, because you have to be adequate at everything.

a 5-man story dungeon. There are not going to be any raids in Guild Wars 2.
There are a good number of open world raids.
no, those are group events. A raid is an instanced dungeon designed for a huge amount of people (20, 30..)
Ya same thing just not in an instance it in an open world.
No not the same thing at all, one is a zerg amongst people you don’t know and will never speak to and will likely be over in anywhere between 10 seconds (Maw) and 10 minutes (Claw), the other is a raid amongst people who are in your group and are communicating via speech and / or text.
I can wear full berserker gear (which I always do for open world pve) fully specced for damage or I can wear P/V/T gear with supportive traits (which i do for fractals and harder dungeons generally)…and you know what, it doesnt make a bit of difference really. The harder FoTM and dungeon bosses still (more or less) one shot you if you make a mistake or roll in the wrong direction, the stupid annoying Dredge (as one example) still permastun you far beyond your ability to mitigate and you will still get picked up by your party if you are rolling with a decent group. And so it continues, over and over again.
Im bored. Bored silly, and I’ve given it long enough and invested enough time, grinding and occasionally money that I have everything I want in the game (wont go for legendary because after throwing many hundreds of items in the Mystic Thief I just gave up). Full Tier 3 on main toon, crafted Volcanus, crafted Vision of the mists, crafted the Anomaly, got four characters to 80 and fully geared etc etc.
The man problem isn’t the content, which is decent enough really, theres great graphics, great scenery, atmosphere etc, its the basic game mechanics. It literally doesnt matter what you equip or how you set your traits up, if you can time dodges well, get to know the mechanics of a fight, you know what your skills do and you group well, you can do anything this game has to offer. Thus making you absolutely no more desirable in any situation than any other person, unless you are talking about so called “elite” CoF runners who think shaving two minutes off completion is the absolute pinnacle fo the game.
We were talking in guild the other day about all getting alts to level 10 and equipping the most basic gear and going running fractals. Haven’t done it yet, but I have confidence that if we do we will get through it…albeit it will take longer. You basically serve no purpose in this game other than bringing very specific skills such as mesmer portal (for example). And I think thats why Im getting bored again. Plus, the idea that the end game is about cosmetics is a joke when you consider that most people look the same. Thers no true individuality anymore, Tier 3 gear is everywhere, you have seen every dungeon armor many times, every time you go to LA you see more than one legendary being waved about. Its all so pedestrian.
I’ve got gold, compared to some I guess, I have about 150g in the bank at the moment, but there isn’t one thing I want to buy that will a) make me look different or more importantly b) make me perform better. So I log on, do my daily fractal, do my daily and then what? Chat to the guildies, speculate a bit on the TP maybe, dye my armor? Level an alt? Done it 4 times plus two others at lvl 20 and lvl 14 and many more created and deleted…literally cant face all the same stuff anymore.
I would love this game if knowing my class made the difference, if I could turn the tide in a less gifted group through my abilty to heal or tank (for example). But the fact is for everything (with maybe the exception of Arah / CoE (maybe)or higher than level 10 fractals) it really doesnt make any difference. You can run in with 4 good players or 4 bad and you will finish the instance, maybe sooner…maybe later.
I just can’t quite figure out how it could be addressed in entirety, but theres just something fundamental missing from the experience. If everyone is equal, if everyone gets a prize…then theres no winners.
Or is it just art mirroring life?
As a Norn, Asura are basically too small to in anyway see what they are wearing. They could be wearing full T3 Asura gear and have a legendary, or they could be wearing a paper bag and carrying a toothpick. Always makes me laugh. I wonder if they know?
So by getting the guild together and (for instance) attending The Shatterer event, you are raiding?
Erm…no. What you are doing is facerolling a dragons toenail. Just no.
These items should be returned to their karma cost now that the typos are corrected and the salvage exploit has been remedied.
Sure, I’ll be quite happy if they do that and refund me my 129 gold. In fact I’ll be first in the queue, especially now as so many people have it that I don’t want it anymore.
Seriously, with even moderate effort you can make 10 gold in a couple of hours….it ain’t that expensive.
If it helps, consider T3 gear like legendaries or exotics like Wall of the Mists or Volcanus etc etc. ie. you aren’t meant to be able to have it without putting some effort in.
Now stop moaning and start playing.
Nice post. Good for you and congratulations.
3 to 5 hours per day is not casual. Also, Tier 3 armor sucks compared to much cheaper Exotics (but most of it looks great). The big issue here is that Tier 3 items are grossly overpriced.
Are you one of these people who havent discovered yet what transmutation stones are for or the concept of a “skin” and keep contributing to the seemingly endless posts about T3 armor being too expensive? Because if you think I’m roaming around in my Tier 3 armor with stats significantly worse than your “cheaper exotics” you are going to be unpleasantly disappointed. Who in their right mind would buy the T3 and leave the stats as rare?
The fact is this game being free (ok buy) to play makes it more akin to Angry Birds than WoW and so I don’t get why people are surprised that the game doesn’t give much away for free? Just be thankful you’re gameplay isnt interrupted every five minutes with adverts for haemorrhoid cream.
(edited by pricer.5091)
It’s simply the way it reads.
If you type a short sentence, following by a full-stop it can indeed be read in that manor.
Example:
Ring me
Ring me.
Do you notice a difference in tone? I certainly do.
No. Oh sorry…
No
I don’t recall saying I thought that this was the only game this would happen in. But it’s the only game I’ve played in where most of the people were already in the location of the bug and within 5 minutes map and guild chat is full of “loot bonanza!! get yourselves to Penitent Camp!”.
Its not “naive”…its “cynical”. And you’re right about the mobs nearby because I took full adavantage of the fact that over 100 people were mindlessly subjecting themselves to a very fast DR by farming everywhere they weren’t.
But the fact remains that most people who want to acquire gold quickly farm Shelters / Penitent nearly endlessly…and of course the ubiquitous CoF P1. ie. Not what the designers intended for the “game that hates grinding”.
Are people farming CM? Or CoE? Or SE? No..because the return isnt as fast. I grinded the mats / money I needed for Volcanus almost solely at Shelters / Penitent…because it is without a doubt the fastest money you are ever going to make in this game. Judging by the hordes of people who are usually there, I’m not alone in this assumption.
So for the second time in as many weeks the “defend Penitent Camp against invasion” event became bugged due to the disappearance of Technician Otto…and for the second time, consequentially the area became an almighty zerg present for the entire two days endlessly killing the never ending waves of Orrian attackers in the hope of loot.
People running as far out as possible to the spawn points in the hope of “tagging” everything first became irritating to me in about ten minutes and I left the area quickly on both occasions.
But seriously, when people are prepared to spend hours or even days performing the same monotonous actions that arise as a result of a bug….there something still very wrong with the loot system in this game.
I don’t understand why players who are in the know are defending against putting a solution in place. Does it hurt you so much to see a safe guard in place just because you don’t need it yourself?
It’s called Schadenfreude…basically it’s a delight in the misfortune of others and a desire to show a superiority that is usually not very evident on closer examination.
Sorry but the fact that “it’s a relatively standard MMO term” just doesnt cut it. This game was marketed specifically to atract people who may not be familiar with MMo’s…remember “if you love MMOs you will love GW2, if you hate MMOs you will love GW2”?
And even if it wasn’t, does everyone playing have a vast welath of MMO experience? What if it’s your first?
Fact is, a purchase in game of this item needs a tooltip making it clear you can’t equip two….in plain English. As it doesn’t…a refund of the laurels is in order.
The dictionary definition of the word unique is: single, solitary in type.
As you CAN buy two of these items and in fact everyone playing the game can buy two (or more) of these items…..they are not “unique”. In fact quite the opposite.
The wording is wrong and should be changed to better reflect the meaning.
Us video gamers will be a dying breed eventually at this rate! And the reason us mid to late 20s use those words is because we freaking INVENTED them.
This did make laugh, as I’m 42 and I distinctly remember playing Space Invaders in 1978 and 1979, which would make someone in their late twenties (lets say 29 for arguments sake)…erm…not born by 6 years.
And I remember playing Elite on a Spectrum in 1984, making someone who was 29, erm, zero years old and probably still not born. So you mid to late twenty year olds must be very clever….
Why make a jumping puzzle that is about a million times harder if you are a Norn? Seriously… kitten thing is giving me a migraine. The camera angles are just broken. Can’t you accomodate the taller population?
Bought ten last night, got nothing…well apart from some BL kits, which are worth their weight in gold. Today got a random key from a mob in cursed shore (first one in many months), dropped a ticket….c’est la vie.
The only bit of RNG in the game I DO have a problem with is the mystic forge precursor lottery. Everything else is entirely fair. But the legendary thing isn’t. Yu have to play the game to get every other part of the legendary, but you have to gamble for the main component…..thats not giving people a choice.
The funny part is the only reason they release the means of acquiring skins like this is because individuals like you waste real life money and dump crazy amounts of gold in. If you want it to stop, simply stop participating in the system and encourage others to do so.
Personally, I think these skins looks like kitten.
Your personal views aside, it is nearly impossible to stop all the people from doing something. People have been trying to stop poverty, wars, religious hate, etc since time began. What makes you think that telling people to stop will work? We all bought a license to this game and have the right o vocalize our disappointment to it developers and attempt to get them to change their policies for the betterment for the license.
There are many things I don’t like about this game, the RNG is one of them which is why I very rarely buy anything for cash. I’ve spent less than £100 on gems since launch, which is less than I would have spent if I was still playing WoW and I have managed to get a full set of Norn T3 armor, Vision of the Mists and am working on Volcanus. Beyond buying 10 keys for the Christmas event and 10 keys for this event I have had nothing to do with RNG.
And yet I have mostly everything I could want in the game. Didn’t get a precursor, didnt get a halloween skin, didn’t get a christmas skin…didn’t cry about it.
You don’t have to buy the keys, it is not compulsory. Yesterday, on release, I bought 10 keys (and that was my limit), which with the keys that dropped from the boxes themselves, enabled me to open 14 chests. I didn’t get a ticket. Meh, I thought and carried on grinding the mats for Volcanus which I am currently working on.
Today, a BL key dropped from a mob in Cursed Shore, I opened a box and I got a ticket.
Yes because key drops are so frequent <sarcasm>
I have not had a key drop in at least 5 months.
Neither had I until today.

I was pleasantly surprised.
You dont have to buy the keys….fact.
You are the victims of the “I want it now” phenomenom that seems to be a bit too common. It’s meant to be rare, they even stated it’s rare and you’ve got people spending hundreds of real dollars / pounds / euros on it. You are your own worst enemies. Veruca Salt syndrome.
Make it common, no-one will want it. You can’t blame ANet for your own reckless spending.
(edited by pricer.5091)
Shouldn’t items like Eldritch scroll, Bloodstone shard etc be account bound? I cannot understand whythey aren’t. Basically means that on my alts skill points are useless, apart from making a “gift” towards a legendary, which I don’t want to do.
And if theres talk of making legendaries account bound, please can you start by making all of these items account bound too?
Wait what? Potions are tradeable now? Well thats just great….seeing as they werent when I got mine. Great.
If you like raids then this game is most certainly for you. There are huge world bosses that require 20-30 people. There are guild missions which require 50+ people. There are small tightly focused dungeons that require 5 people.
The rest of your post, fine, it’s personal what people consider “end-game”. But the above is just incorrect. The fact that you require a lot of people to do something does not make a raid. Raiding is about communication, tactics and peoples understanding of the tactics and ability to execute them, not simply numbers. There are very few, if any, events in this game that cannot be completed withabsolutely NO communication at all. That, is not raiding.
And the world bosses in particular are just massive zerg and rez fests. Fact.
I am sure that the goblet, the compass and the little wooden soldier will play a significant part in the future events to come.
Perhaps, a young Charr really wanted a wooden soldier because he saw a dredge with one and felt jealousy. So he asked his Dad if he could have one, his Dad said that he could not have one as the Charr are unable to do woodwork due to their claws getting in the way of the chisels and saws. The Charr asked the Dredge where he got it and the Dredge said it came from the humans or possibly the Norn, he couldnt remember. Dredge too are unable to do carpentry due to their poor eyesight.
Anyway, an alliance was formed between the Charr and the Dredge because of their desire to own wooden soldiers, so they attacked the first human settlement they cam across and killed everyone. But there was no wooden soldier. All of the human villages heard of this terrifying attack and so they all ran away to Lions Arch and Hoelbrak. They weren’t sure of the way but luckily one of them had a compass so all was great! One of the human’s actually had a sword belt too, no sword, just the belt and he buckled it on for the journey…..
etc etc etc…blah blah…..I lost interest already.
Two tales:
One: some refugees have lost some family items they could probably live without (Compass? And yet here you are…not lost. Sword belt? Buy another you idiot! Or better yet, make one. A flaming toy soldier?? Seriously?) and so they decide to ask me, a famous and heroic passing warrior who has amongst other things killed a really big dragon or three to go look for it. They have no idea even roughly where they lost it, its “in diessa plateau” for example. “Hey refugee! Get stuffed. You come over here taking our jobs / women / loot etc etc Daily Mail etc etc and you think Im gonna look for your wooden soldier?? You must be crazy!!”
Two: I have lost my wallet, unless an employee of the company that made this content goes and looks for it (hint: it’s in England) I won’t be able to spend anymore money in the gem store.

Their PvP system is a three-faction map in which you battle over keeps and camps, using a variety of siege weaponry and large swarms of players to take and hold various strategic locations.
Sound familiar? Maybe because it’s exactly the same as WvW.
There’s no question who they got the idea from (and, indeed, where they got a LOT of their ideas from), when you hear the devs explain it for themselves.
That would be, “Dark Age of Camelot”.
Yes, because the designer responsible is the same guy who was responsible for PvP in DaoC. The combat system is fundamentally different to GW2 from what I can gather and therefore it stands to reason that PvP will be too. There are not three factions at war here in GW2, there are three servers at war, not the same thing at all.
St. Patricks day might as well be named Guinness day these days. Still, out of the following things:
Paganism
Christianity
Guinness
I know which one I believe in.
The fact that TESO is actively seeking to copy many of its combat aspects from GW2 (especially its PvP system which is a carbon copy of WvW) is, to me, proof positive that GW2 did something right in that regard.
Erm, eh? Having watched the latest developer announcement video for TESO not half an hour an ago, what parts of the combat system do you think are like GW2? They are like previous ES games in the sense that you attack with your left mouse key and block with your right, depending on what you have equipped. Not once in any of the video footage did I see anyone running around, rolling about or attempting to cast spells over their shoulder whilst running away.
And as for pvp being a carbon copy…there aren’t even going to be any battlegrounds. Rather a whole area of the map is permanently given over to PvP.
Not sure where you’re getting your info. Still if in six months time I find myself in a massive zerg trying to break down a gate for ten minutes I will acknowledge you were right.
Most of the criticism of TESO atm on the net is directed at the fact that people think its a WoW clone in ES clothing….

I think the single most irritating thing about this game is the way conditions and control effects are implemented. Your control effects last what, 4 seconds? Condition damage is terrible, so you are left doing what you are doing in your video, which is effectively running around an awful lot, snapping a control on, applying a boon or a condition, then going for a hit, then running around some more after your 3 or 4 second stun wears off. There is no meaningful CC available, meaning you can’t take a mob (even one) out of a fight, which is why, in my opinion, all fights in dungeons against trash end up being somewhat of a zerg. Theres just no strategy as every fight is the same.
Now in your example, fighting only one mob, the system (kind of) works. But in dungeons or when you have 5 risen or 5 dredge on your back, you basically have to rely on a combination of aoe attacks, healing yourself, dodging, cleansing and to a degree some luck.
Also irritating is the fact that you can only dodge a couple of times before your endurance runs out, then you are kiting by running around (as in your video). I mean, you can charge around swinging an impossibly oversized greatsword around indefinitely but 2 rolls and you need some time to recover? Also, to be effective and take little damage you HAVE to switch between melee and ranged, which is fine if thats how you WANT to play, but what if you want to be purely melee? Fine on a couple of regular mobs maybe, but try it on your own on a Champion or a couple of veterans (at your own level).
I personally like a lot of the combat system, but there are definitely elements that need some serious thought.

Stealthy thieves who steal? Whatever next?
He’s so negative, always saying “I predict this will not end well”. A great leadership quality this is not.
I have 4 characters, all in exotics and none of them have any ascended gear at all. Why? Because I don’t want to do FotM. For all other aspects of the game it is not required. Will I get any? Yeah…through laurels I probably will, but I’m not in a rush. If I play, which is less and less these days to be honest, I have 4 characters to choose from, providing me with a bit of variety. Deleting them because they don’t have best in slot would be a complete waste of the time I put in levelling them, especially as in every single aspect of the game other than level 20+ FotM there is NO discernable difference in performance and no requirement to have ascended.
90% of the game is just one big zergfest anyway…so who cares what gear you are in? No one can tell at the moment what your dps is (for example), including you. So who cares? The only thing you can actually tell about another player who you group with is whether they stay alive well, rez downed players and know the tactics or not. This crazy need to have BiS is based on what? kitten?
Even in WoW, which everyone keeps banging on about, quite frequently you would encounter players who had all the best gear and no idea how to stay out of fire or you know…actually play the game. You know the type, the ones who hang around repeatedly spamming their gearscore and flapping around on some stupid mount to show off. Get them in a raid though and thats where their flaws show up….
(edited by pricer.5091)
I have a watch that cost £1600 and a watch that cost £150, both of them keep excellent time. Is one better than the other? Only in my mind. To someone who is not into watches, one of them is a neccesity, the other is a pointless piece of self-indulgence.
It will be similar driving factor that makes you buy T3 Cultural. If you think it’s overpriced….you don’t want it enough to buy it…so don’t buy it.
Im afraid its you that is disapointed. Yes Anet already stated legendaries will rise in stats to the highest available tier, they will always be the “top tier” in statistics.
Yes and A-net are so good at keeping their word right? And think about the logistics of it, how would they implement it? What if ,for example, you have a legendary that you have transmuted to get the stats you need, which is something that the vast majority of people have done? Do A-Net detect you have a legendary and automatically update the stats to the ascended version….what if there is no ascended version of the stats you have (which is already the case for the currently ascended items…not all stat combinations are present)? Or what if they just update it automaticaly to the stats the legendary had before you transmuted it? You then have to grind for the version you DO want.
Watch this space. It will not be as you say.
I predict a great wailing and gnashing of teeth. Again.
The point of them is this, look around you at the armor people are wearing. 90% of it is either Orr temple karma armor, CoF armor (ridiculously common) or AC armor. Or for people who are a bit more creative it is transmuted items, giving them a more unique look.
You buy the T3 why? Just because you like it. You transmute it onto your exotics, job done. If you don’t like your T3 set you don’t buy it. I persoanlly think the T3 norn armor is the best looking armor in the game and so I bought it. It cost me nothing to transmute it as I have over 80 fine transmutation stones from area completions….
And if you really think A-Net are going to offer free upgrades to legendaries when they release ascended weapons, I think you will be disappointed. For a start it wouldn’t be fair, you only have to look at the current ascended gear and the grind it requires to get it to realise that people will have to grind 50 laurels or some other nonsense. Why should people with legendaries get that for free?
Wow. Next time title your whiney posts more accurately so I don’t waste time reading all the qq’s. Go read a book. Im just glad I don’t have to listen to you whine in game.
Go back to playing the game you adore and leave the forums for the whiners….
No way to progress my character in a way I feel meaningful? Yeah, that covers it.
I’ve got 4 level 80s in exotics. Not interested in a legendary, done all of the dungeons I’m interested in, think all of the special events so far have been awful, not very enamoured with Flame and Frost (whatever it turns out to be), hate fractals (just hate them) and I have 72 g and nothing I want to spend it on and nothing I want to save up for.
I just can’t put my figure on what it is exactly, but theres nothing really interesting to do. At least in WoW when you got bored with content, you could go grind a mount or fly about looking for Time-lost Drake etc etc. I did get bored of that too of course, but that took 5 years, not 5 months.
Maybe I’m just tired of MMO’s in general…
So my PC went bang and i’ve had a week’s break while trying to figure out whats wrong with it (PSU problem it turns out).
Anyway, I’ve realised an amazing thing. It turns out I must have been playing out of simple habit, because I haven’t missed the game one bit. It’s just not that addictive.
I have had quite a laugh reading the forums today, but as a result of reading the forums I now cant be bothered to log into the game at all. I might go and read a book or maybe go count the grass in the garden.
And no, you can’t have my stuff. I haven’t left, I’m just….waiting.
Thanks for your reply, but I’ve tried this and its still crashing. I’m coming to the conclusion it may be a PSU issue….
So today I have been playing as normal, as I have been since the game launched. I log out, go for a drink, come back, start up launcher…..bang…black screen. Computer resets itself. Try again, bang, black screen.
Game will not load, no matter what I do. I have updated AMD Catalyst, updated driver. I have even done a sysytem restore.
I did notice there was minor, very small client server upload when I tried to log in. So is the problem your end or mine?
Everything else on PC is working fine…it is ONLY GW2 that is causing this to happen.
Heres the idea….
If a deer can drop fur or bone…all deer should drop fur and bone. Some more, some less…to maintain that all the deer are perhaps of different sizes. They should not under any circumstances drop an axe. I mean where would they keep it? Up their kittens~?
I got a level 80 rare greatsword off a moose in Wayfarer foothils once…I can only imagine someone had asked the moose to look after it while they were drunk. Probably a norn. Maybe the norn even shoved it up the mooses kitten and completely forgot about it?
If a grawl attacks you and it is holding an axe, it should drop an axe, probably a crappy one. If the king of the grawls in a particular area or one of their champions is attacking you, perhaps it will have something a bit better? Maybe it stole it off the last adventurer it killed? It might have a bit of money and maybe some crap it considers of sentimental value?
If some elementals drop cores, all of them should drop cores. But if some of them are special and drop lodestones, why are they special? Are they bigger, more powerful, less common?
Every MMo does this and its just lazy.
“Hey nice sword Jim, where d’ya get it”
“I fished it out of a dead mooses kitten”
“Nice”
Seeing as how there are still way more important things that needs to be fixed which have been on the forum since the game launched, for example hit box issues and broken class skills…I wouldn’t hold your breath.
It seems the standard answer is “yes, we are aware there are issues and we are working on fixing them”, this is invariably followed by some new additions to the cash shop or an amazing new event that either simply doesnt work or fails to deliver anything really meaningful to the gaming experience (like Lost Shores for example). Seeing as this stuff keeps being churned out, then people are clearly working…they just might not be working on the stuff we would like them to.
But I am looking forward to part 2 of Frost and Flame, now we have fixed all those signposts theres going to be a lot of refugees arriving and I think we are going to have to feed them. Perhaps we’ll be killing horses and making them burgers? Or making them a nice tent out of 300 rabbit furs?
