Staff skill bugged?

pricer.5091

I have tried to do a search on this but turned up nothing so apologies if this has been raised before but is the standard “1” auto-attack skill on guardian staff bugged?

It won’t hit anything on a different level (higher or lower) although orb of light will. This has been most obvious to me in AC (at the spider) where it won’t hit the gargoyle heads and in CoF Path 2 on the eternal flame. I’ve also noticed same thing in open world although obviously its less annoying.

Just keep getting “miss”, “miss”, “miss”….grrr

“What is the power your heart most desire” Said the Archmage, hidden in shifting shadows, with a voice made of the echos of one thousand souls trapped for ever in torment.
“I want a Bow, the most powerfull bow ever made, fitting to kill Ancient Dragons and freeze my enemys in fear just before my arrows pierce their bones and steal their lifeforce”
“You paid the ultimate price, so is yours… Anything else?”
“Yes, I want it to shoot unicorns and leave a path of color in the air, for they take my childhood, the same day as my family and friends, but not forever, not all. And I want the last thing they see is my deathly smile clothed in the colors they were unable to destroy”

“So be it. I give you The Dreamer. May your vengeance be unending.”

So I went crazy and bought as many of these as I could with the karma I had, about 450k worth which got me about 100 boxes. I opened them with a 50% karma buff and the karma drops etc I got from the boxes meant all in all before I ran out of karma I opened over 200 boxes…this is what I got:

51 Obsidian Shards
3 1/2 stacks of unidentifiable objects, which I sold at 1g 25s a stack to vendor
2 Risen Priest of Balthazar mini-pets (which are non-tradeable)
2 crystal, 2 onyx, 1 molten,2 glacial and1 charged lodestones – net worth about 8g
1 warm tonic and 1 hard tonic (both endless) – fire and earth elemental transform – soulbound

So all in all about 12-13g worth of saleable stuff, 2 (albeit cool) relatively useless minipets, 51 obsidian shards (no use unless I want to do the rest of the insane requirements for the legendary) and two tonics (meh).

Draw your own conclusions, but for me at least that 450k karma represents about 2 months of gameplay. I dont think I’ll be buying more.

90% of the suggestions here assume that the Lead Designer has responsibility for all aspects of the game, when clearly they don’t. Most of the problems that require the changes that people are talking about are fundamentally about how the game is monetized, not how it is designed.

The design of this game is breathtaking, with great concept art, level and instance design, story, lore and environment. The vast majority of the issues highlighted in this thread are nothing to do with design.

Transmuting is an exploit or not?

I don’t think Legendaries should be upgraded automatically if and when ascended weapons come out.

Why? Because if the rings and backpacks are anything to go by there will be a grind (of some kind to get them). When you “grind” for a legendary, as it has the same stats as exotics, you are not grinding to have a statistical advantage, you are grinding for a skin only.

Therefore, anyone with a legendary should be offered a free transmute when they get their ascended weapon. Otherwise they are getting a statistical advantage for doing nothing that previously warranted one.

I did most of the dodge achieve on one mob. I just picked an axe throwing Son of Svanir in Wayfarer and dodged his axe every time he threw it at me. When my dodge bar was low i just let the axes hit me till it was full again. I would have done it all on one mob, but I got bored and killed him. Either way it took less than five minutes tops.

You have to get “evaded” status for it to count. You can even do it on the missiles that come from bolthrowers and catapults.

Depends “when” you buy it and “when” you resell it. I know someone who has made a fortune pre-ordering “hot” or “desirable” cars and selling them for more than the list price by selling them to people who just can’t wait. In his case this has been mostly on Aston Martins. So your argument is flawed. And in terms of placing the orders, its not what you know, it’s who you know.

Patch question - downkicking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

pricer.5091

I havent managed to download the patch yet as I have a super crappy dl speed, but one thing struck me about the upkicking / downkicking statement. It said that “In general, this means weaker when adjusted down, stronger when adjusted up”, how does this work?

If it means that as level 80 I can go to Wayfarer Foothills and no longer one shot mobs on my level 80’s, but that as a level 20 I can go to FoTM and actually be upgraded to a reasonably competitive level, surely that’s wrong?

I spent time getting to level 80 (on 4 characters) and I don’t want to be messing about spending 5 minutes kiting every group of level 3 grawl I see if I’m gathering low level mats or doing “the maw” or whatever.

Can someone tell me that this is not the case? I started as a weakling in Wayfarer, I roamed around, I killed Zhaitan, I got exotics, I “adventured”…I don’t want to be a weakling again.

Before Ascended Gear, Legendaries were an optional cosmetic grind.

Since then, Legendaries are where the “max stats” will reside. It’s been said, it’s been proven (via accidental early update), and it is fact.

And yet still so many people are claiming that Legendaries are just optional cosmetic fluff. That used to be true, but it isn’t anymore.

Actually it still will be true, as the developers have already said that Legendaries will always be top tier. Therefore, if they introduce ascended quality weapons as you seem to be implying (and I think they will too)…then Legendaries will simply be upgraded to match the stats of the ascended weapons.

So what is now simply Exotic stats in a fancy skin will just be Ascended stats in a fancy skin.

And in fact theres a high chance that if the (future) ascended level weapons are obtained through the same mechanism as ascended backpacks and rings (ie. grinding) then a lot of people will cry foulplay if people who have legendaries get them upgraded without having to obtain the ascended item.

C’est la vie.

Personally I don’t care because with the exception of maybe Incinerator and the greatswords I think they all suck looks-wise anyway.

There is nothing “legendary” about the process of getting one, perhaps if they were for actual game accomplishments with a higher level of difficulty than the average gamer was able to complete…maybe they might be termed “legendary”.

As it is you might as well rename them “Boring Weapons”. And they are not for people who are better at playing the game, they are for people who have infinite amounts of time to play the game or infinites amounts of money to just buy them.

Buying a legendary is equally not “legendary” and the very fact that you can (even if you didnt) diminishes any sense of pride in having one.

Therefore, am I going to “grind” for one….no. Am I going to buy one….even more no.

100% dedicated PvP zones could reasonably not be expected to count towards achievements which are 95% based in PvE.

So perhaps they are 95% PvP zones?

World completion and jumping puzzle completion should be entirely free of the requirement to do WvW…especially as it is the part of the game that sucks so hard it turns itself blue.

That’s what I like about the GW2 system instead… scripts are tossed out the window. You’re free to deal with the encounters as you see fit, and there are a myriad amount of ways to do so.

With respect, no there aren’t. Every single fight in GW2 be it a dungeon boss or a group of mobs in Orr or a single deer or stag when you are level 1 and in a starting area are the same. Roll out of red circles (instead of running out of them like in WoW or others), heal yourself or cleanse yourself in time to not run foul of conditions, revive your companions when they are downed and erm…rinse and repeat ad infinitum. Yes there are certain mechanics that must be learnt for some dungeon encounters…but every MMO has this, in fact more so than here to be honest.

Every other game I ever played you get to know people based on their skills, “awesome we got so-and-so tanking…this well go well” kind of thing. Here you are totally anomynous. Even if in other games there are people with “all the gear and no idea”, here there are just people with “all the same gear…may or may not know how to play….at the end of the day doesn’t matter ’cos we can corpse drag through anyway if it all goes wrong”.

The only differences between this and every other single MMO I have ever played are the lack of a specific role to fulfil in groups (which when you really think about it just makes you absolutely unidentifiable from every other single similarly geared player with a brain in their head), the absence of vertical progression (which has and is making many people not bother logging in) and the lack of any real incentives to play beyond 80.

For example, I have three 80’s, on my thief there is absolutely nothing left in the game that I desire to earn either through PvE, PvP or any other game mechanism….thief looks fine and is fully geared for my chosen spec in the what I consider to be the best looking gear. Guardian…hit 80 on it 3 days ago and already there anre only 3 pieces of armor left I want from CoE which I will get within a day or two….nothing left to achieve. Elementalist….hit 80 yesterday, absolutely nothing whatsoever I want, it has the basic exotics with the right stats and I don’t want ANY of the dungeon armor because it’s hideous (in my opinion). Warrior….same armor as Guardian so, erm…meh.

If there was some super cool piece of loot I could only get by repeatedly running fractals, CoF, whatever that actually gave me some benefit in terms of gameplay, looking funkier than you, or just because my kitten means I need to hang around swinging about some sword hardly anyone else (and no, this does not applyto the current legendaries…because even they realistically give you no REAL benefit) has I’m gonna keep grinding.

But when grinding is all about getting crap that everyone else can get with equally as little effort or differentiation (for exotics) or the mind numbing grind and RNG long walk that is getting a legendary that is no no better than an exotic and pretty soon more and more people will have anyway as there is nothing else to do once you have the gear you want….then why bother.

Personally I’m going to get all of my 5 slots to the same place, fully exotic geared lvl 80 within probably the next few weeks and then what am I gonna do? Log off probably.

Which to be honest is a real shame as the world, the graphics, the lore, the ideas are all superb. But the game just doesn’t pander to basic human psychology, and its not even due to the cash shop…because to be honest the cash shop actually doesn’t provide anything great that you can’t earn anyway if you are prepared to wait.

Hope they fix it ‘cos within a short period I’m gonna have 5 geared 80’s waiting for something to do…

Ha ha ha. That was good for a laugh any D/D ele in the standard build can survive better than just about any other class. The most mobs I have fought at once is 10. The most vets 4 taking supply camps solo. Its not that tricky.

Well, I dont PvP as I dont like it…but what I’m saying is that in PVE (currently 66 and very bored with it), levelling is nowhere near as easy on this character. So 3 or more undead of the same level as me and it’s pretty much game over. I just don’t have the capacity to do the damage required before the mobs roll me over. And yes I’m attunement switching and using what CC there is. And it’s also about speed…so lets assume you are a much better elementalist player than I am, there is no way on the planet you can go through the mobs quicker on your elementalist than I can on my thief. Fact. Therefore…levelling an elementalist is slower than levelling a thief. And as I have a warrior too, I can definitely say with confidence that the same goes for a warrior. And this appears to be true all the way from level 1 up to level 80.

If I wanted to spend 10 minutes kiting mobs around, then yes I am sure it is possible…but its as boring as hell.

Just some musings

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

pricer.5091

Personally I think the whole idea of “gear” is stupid in general. Why cant your character grow. In real life if you want to be tougher, stronger, faster, wiser or improve yourself in any way you have to train or study.

Waiting for the day when an MMO focuses on your characters personal development rather than “acquiring the Magic Underoos of Wisdom” or some other meaningless crapola.

Sure, you can buy better equipment in real life. I mean, I’m an archer, but the gear I use has little bearing on how good I am. Rather, having the “gear” is purely a product of money…having the skill is purely a product of practice.

Most MMO’s work like this, two characters both level 80 (same class and race) take off ALL of their gear and duel, neither one has an advantage (apart from of course one might be actually better at playing the game, faster fingers or whatever)…but one is fresh level 80 and the other has done every dungeon in the book and killed epic monsters left right and centre for months. Hell, if that was real life I know which one I wouldn’t want to fight.

Same goes for the imaginary content, like magic for example. Which guy should be more powerful, the guy wearing the “Gloves of Fairy Fire” (that he bought off the TP) or the guy that has adventured beyond the far peaks, reached the temple of the masters of magic and studied their ways, completed their trials and unlocked the inner mysteries?

MMO’s are all straight out of the box, uninspiredcopycats of each other, whether there is gear grind or not its still all about gear.

How about an MMo where your character actually has to improve himself mentally and physically….? Now that would actually be interesting.

Yes it IS just a game and you are right it is imortant to keep that in perspective. However it is also a purchase and, for some people, myself included, one which has involved several follow up payments. It is a product…and with any other other product in the world that you bought that subsequently doesn’t work, you have the right to complain and in most cases demand a refund.

Whatever way you choose to look at it, it is a service which has been paid for which doesn’t work in the manner most reasonable would expect it to. There simply are no excuses.

And no, I don’t expect a refund, because I have had a very decent single player experience out of the game (at least) and a couple of dungeons and so on, so just on that basis its worth what I paid for it. But will I keep paying for it if the standard of delivery remains the same?

No. I would rather throw my money out of the window.

So, dear A-net, fix it please, pretty please (I know you are a little sensitive of criticism as your hysterical deletion of posts proves) and I will continue to pay you. Leave it as it is, shoddy, poorly implemented, broken and unplayable and you can strike me off your list of customers.

What I mean is though, even if a dungeon is fun it has a shelf life. The more fun it is the longer the shelf life. Maybe its a problem of the genre and not a particular game. SWTOR dungeons weren’t particularly fun but they did require TS and conversation at least. GW2s don’t, U can pug them all. Maybe that’s the crux of it?

What are people going to do if there is no gear progression, given the current content it will take about 3 runs of a dungeon to be utterly bored of it. Endgame at the moment is grinding Plinx and feeding the mystic forge…as I already have all the skins I like. So seriously, what am I missing that everyone seems so angry about? Unless there’s a reason to repeat the same content there’s no point repeating it, unless it is genuinely fun or challenging, which current dungeons aren’t. They would have to add new content every week to keep people interested if there were no gear progression.

I can even faceroll though Orr now…so don’t tell me to go exploring.

I’m looking forward to the new stuff so I can do something interesting for the first time inmany weeks.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pricer.5091

pricer.5091

Most of the complaints about PVE content have been about how its is limited in appeal due to two main reasons, flawed mechanics certainly…but mainly poor rewards. The only reason you would currently do dungeon more than once (because the first time, realistically, is the only time thats “for fun”) is to gain tokens for specific armor you want. This is because the chest rewards are meaningless and there is nothing in game “better” than what you are almost certainly wearing (exotics). For me, personally on thief, the tokens I needed were 2 specific items from CoF plus the daggers from CoE. The items I needed from CoF took me 7 runs to get. There is now quite literally no point going back. I can get better rewards from doing the DE outside the dungeon. I don’t like the cultural armor enough to grind for that (althugh I have the boots) and there is no other item in the game I want, apart from maybe the legendary dagger…but that is an unbelievable amount of grinding. I had the God armor from Orr temples and transmuted it because I thought it was ugly.

So fundamentally, unless new items were added that you had to do dungeons or other content to get, there is not much left for me to play for. Making these new items just skins would be OK as long as you LIKED the skins and considered them desirable, but as you can’t please all of the people all of the time…this would not have been everyone. In consequence most people would do the new content once, maybe twice and then yet again hit up the boards to complain how bored they are.

I’m pleased about the change and without changes this game would be dead in the water in six months tops, when people finally realise there is nothing better to do than grind Plinx or lodestones.

And I’m deliberately not mentioning WvWvW as I think its horrible.

Incinerator, admittedly very cool….but I’d need two as I have OCD about having different looking weapons equipped. And that seems am altogether too long road to walk down.

The sword, Bolt, I think….I don’t like sword play style so not bothered.

The harpoon or spear? Why even bother? Going underwater is for fish.
