My mother always said ‘only stupid people get bored, they don’t know how to entertain themselves’.
Your mother was entirely wrong. The higher the intelligence the more the need for external stimulation. This is why there is frequently a link between high natural intelligence and poor behaviour in children at schools. It is also the reason why big cats, elephants, primates etc frequently display pacing behaviour, aggression and self-harm in captivity.
It is also the reason why highly intelligent people are usually not found working in highly repetitive jobs such as assembly line work.
Easiest of all has to be the one in Wayfarer Foothills…I forget whakittens called but its near the Hot Springs WP.
Suggestion: why not have a complaints part of the forum? That way there would be no need fro everybody to argue about whether or not someone has a valid complaint and the developers could actually answer the complaint themselves.
Because you guys who are basically wasting your time telling people who want the game changed because they dont like it that they are wrong are accomplishing nothing at all. If someone has a problem, telling them they shouldn;t have a problem is really not the answer.
We’re all wasting our time here. The complainers are wasting there time because the answers they get dont help them and aren’t official. The defenders are wasting there time because of exactly the same reason.
Why not just flag complaints threads as threads for people who are actually complaining? The all of the people who are allegedly enjoying the game so much can get back to playing it and not having to come up with some objection every time someone has a problem?
I haven’t been offensive to anyone. Not you, the company or anyone.
But then I’m not the lollipop man who lives on candy lane either.
The real question is why is there a downed mechanic at all? I killed you, you’re dead. Go respawn already and stop hiding behind your friends.
I feel someone in this thread has no friends to rely on.
You don’t need them, do you? You can rely on anyone in the enormous zerg you are part of to do a bit of rezzing. I do it myself…I’m nice like that.
GW2 is not about being nice (I know, because its doesnt say so in the manifesto). I think you must have it confused with “My Little Pony: The MMO”. Like most peopIe I say nice things about things I like. I complain about things I don’t.
The only reason I post on this forum at all is (like the thousands of other people who make the same complaints) to attempt to get change. As it’s the only communication channel available with the company that make the game I dont think this is unreasonable.
EDIT: I have in fact said nice things about this game. Ill repeat them. The art direction is superb. The environments, characters and animations are top of the league. The lore is great. All of the basics are excellent. Which is why I am so annoyed that more isn’t being done with them.

Yes, I’m hoping that if I ever get set on fire, frozen to death or just plain chopped up with an enormous sword that I will continue to be of use to my team, as anything other than fish bait.
Its tragic that you can’t accept that this game you like so much has so many other people so bored they can’t even play it for more than ten minutes. Even more tragic you have to spend half your time on forums defending a company that doesn’t care about you.
You cant disagree. The video is on Youtube for all to see. It is a factual entity that you are not entitled to dismiss. It makes statements that are false. As are you.
ANet making clarifications after people have already bought the game is nothing more than cowardly dishonesty…which is even worse.
See saying “cowardly dishonesty” shows your views are so one sided that you cant be trusted at all for any type of prospective. Anet in your eyes can never do right and i images there are a lot of things in your life you feel the same way as you do with Anet. But what your doing at the end of the day is just slowly closing off life from your self your going to end very lonely at this rate.
I actually laughed. Im closing off “life” from myself because I’m angry I spent money and continued to spend money on a game that lied to me. Wow, I’ll think twice before sending my next bad meal back in case the restaraunt staff don’t like me anymore. I might cry. Get a grip, you’ve lost the plot.

Hiding facts behind semantics doesn’t alter them. The fact is that the game was promised as something it simply isn’t. Much like a political manifesto, you might argue…hiding the promises behind the words “manifesto” still doesn’t make the failure to deliver anything but lies.
And in fact, it doesnt matter whether there was intent to deceive. The lack of delivery is failure, whether intentional or not.
Promising to over-deliver has been the downfall of many political parties and will be the downfall of this game ultimately. People would still have played had they simply said “Hey we made an MMO, with..you know…MMO stuff in it”
(edited by pricer.5091)
Just about everything in that manifesto trailer is absolute lies.
“We dont want you to kill aboss and have him spawn ten minutes later”
“When you rescue a village, that village stays rescued and the people remember you”
“You affect the world”
“We dont make grindy games”
LOL. Vayne…keep going, you are making yourself look faintly silly. Forget the grind for “stuff”…the actual game itself falls short on EVERY single thing it was meant to be by a country mile.
And yes, I have played many MMO’s and to a degree they were all grindy, but then they didnt fall over themsleves to tell me they weren’t.
It doesn’t matter what he said…or indeed what he meant. This game is grindier than R Kelly in a convent school. Fact.
Mr Johansen, him speak with forked tongue.
I just bored myself stupid with another fractals run….it was grindy. Dungeons are grindy. Loot gathering is grindy. Getting Ascended gear is grindy. Getting skins is VERY grindy. The stupid “hit 150 pinatas” repeating rubbish is grindy as hell.
Grind. Grind. Grind. You won’t change my mind.
No. I’m saying it was your opinion that it was defined in the piece. Nowhere in the piece does it state,“here is my definition of grind, anything I say beyond this point must be taken in the same way”. And in fact, even if you take it the way that Colin allegedly meant it, he’s still wrong…because the combat is spectacularly “hit-one-button”.
Actually I’m not making ANY assumptions. When a word like grind is used in a piece and is defined by the context of the piece, that becomes the definition of the word in the piece. It really is that simple.
Really? Here is a piece in which I use the word grind with different meanings:
So, I take the fifth exit, just like every other night, when the car suddenly stops. Just grinds to a halt you know? Its raining, so hard that the wipers barely let me see through the deluge. I see blurred neon over on the other side of the street, got to be a strip club, nothing else it could be in this part of town. Perhaps they’ll have a phone? I button my coat up tight around my neck and get out of the car. Man, what a grind.
I enter the club and ask to use the phone. I am told, bluntly, there are no phones for customers and do I want a drink or do I want to get lost? I order a whisky. Five minutes later, a cute blonde is sitting on my lap, I feel her grind against me……
Got bored, it was so generic. But etc etc …..
You really need to learn to read. As I’ve already stated, once a word is defined in a specific document, ANY document, it takes on that meaning in that document. Basic, basic English.
Particularly a word like grind. Colin defined the word how HE was using it and then went on to say AFTER that that “we don’t want people to grind in Guild Wars 2”.
If he had a different definition why would he have defined it in the first place? Why would he change the definition.
It is COMPELTELY, 100% IRRELEVANT as to what it might or might not mean, once someone has taken the time to define it in a specific piece.
You can agree or disagree with the definition but you have to apply the definition that was given. If you don’t, you’re still taking the words out of context.
You are stating your opinion as fact. Go to the back of the class.
I’m betting Wildstar with have a MUCH smaller affect on the Guild Wars 2 population than most people think. Why? Because they think that most people are hard core, while I believe most people are more casual.
I guess we’ll see soon enough.
I’m betting it will be a massive flop. Its basically a cartoon that looks like something from Earthworm Jim nearly 20 years ago. I hated it on sight.

They’re playing one part of it. A part, that has in fact, been even more neglected by the developers than PVE. Sadly.
Eventually they’ll be able to…who knows what the next generation will bring…or the one after.
well both Xbox one and Playstation 4 decided to put hardware worse than my laptop bought at 2010. They’re far from handling MMOs.
This is only said by people who don’t understand how computers work. Close to 100% of the consoles processing power is going to the game, your laptop is not designed that way.
In addition TESO and Final Fantasy 15 are both confirmed as heading for PS4.
Actually, they built a game in which the endgame consisted of going anywhere in the world you wanted and doing whatever you wanted, from exploring to DE’s to meta-events to WvW to PvP.
With no tangible reward for doing so.
Players brainwashed by WoW into thinking that endgame = shinies complained there was no endgame. So, they gave them what they asked for.
No they didn’t. Doing DE’s and meta events doesnt get you “shinies”. It gets you a bunch of salvage and vendor junk.
If, for example, you got an ascended trinket for completing 1000 DE’s or maybe 100 World events..that would be at least something to do it for. Now, you are just doing it for the fun of standing ina group of 100 people and bashing a dragons kneecap for 3 minutes.
A lot of the whining on this forum is for grinding and it’s always from pve-only noobs.
Stopped reading after this point. You’re probably the guy who skirts round the zerg in WvW doing AoE and thinks himself skilful.
The real point is, once again, that the manifesto statement is not accurate.
“Play your own way”. Unless that way is condition based spec in which case you better hope you aren’t in a group that is also largely condition based damage….because we limited this as yu can only have so much bandwidth.
Accuracy is important.
And in a world where intent and unspoken context do not translate into text and the odds are at best even that someone is trying to argue an opinion as a fact then you do actually have to state somewhere that you’re just expressing an opinion.
You do realise that you just did the same thing do you? In your opinion, in this world you do have to state that you are just expressing an opinion. In my opinion obviously. Allegedly.
If you think that GW2 killed WoW, you are sadly mistaken. WoW is wildly popular still, despite losing customers.
The only thing that will kill WoW is WoW.
Or possibly Project Titan…(whatever that turns out to be).
No mob, be it a boss, a mob, a world boss or anything else should be immune to whatever damage is generated by whatever type of build you have decided to go with. Its like offering a soldier a gun and not giving him any bullets. Its why zerker gear is worth something and no other type of armor is. Its why it is largely irrelevant what build you make…and its at least 60% of the reason the game is so kitten boring.
If I want a condition build I should be able to target 4 out of a group of 5 mobs, inflict conditions on them and watch them die…just as quickly as I take out number 4 with direct damage. Quicker in fact.
This is just not possible. Condition damage is an annoyance (at best) in PvP…and in PVE it is almost totally useless.
Possibly because people are stupider and “everyone deserves to be a winner”?
I don’t understand why some people call this game boring. Yes, it is true that there are some brief boring moments, but all games have them.
This is indeed true. The problem though, is that the boring moment starts when you log in and ends when you log out.
I feel like I’ve been promised a new Ferrari, and then I’m actually given one, only to find out its got no petrol, the tires are flat, the battery is dead, and no one can quite remember where the keys are.
Oh dear lord if that’s your problem … This only happens with overeducated people, those without any degrees wouldn’t see the problem. Ask your gardener for help.
I’ve got a compressor in the shed, petrol is a 5 minutes walk and the battery I’ll charge overnight. Who needs keys. Enjoy your Ferrari. Educated people really can’t solve the most basic problems. But more accurate comparison … you were promised a Porsche, you expected a Ferrari, you got a Porsche and are now complaining you didn’t get a Ferrari.
No, we were promised a Porsche as an outright purchase, what we actually got was a Vokswagen on some kind of hire purchase agreement.
So you done every thing in the game rank 20 in spvp (not sure what the cap is atm) level 100 ish in WvW? level 40 ish in FOTM? Got dungeon master? Have you done all of this? If not you have no idea what is skillful content.
Since when did grinding out titles and ranks = skill?
Also, people have abstract reasoning. You don’t need to do all the content in this game to know it that it requires little skill.
The dungeons and ability to do these things is a show of skill but not skill it self to get them.
Finishing ANY dungeon in the game , including FoTM and Arah is not a show of skill…it is a show of perserverance and of being able to have formed a group that doesnt absolutely suck.
I highly doubt that ascended weapons will get upgraded at all. Yeah sure, they said they would but, lets be honest…they talk a lot and dont do very much.
I reckon you will still have to transmute the legendary “skin” onto whatever the next tier of “ascended” wepaon is…assuming you can be bothered grinding one. Thats if they arent in RNG boxes…or even worse, bought for laurels.
I know its not like other MMO’s..its a lot worse and far less skill is involved. Everyone has to dodge, you mitigate the effect of taking a mega-ton of damage when it goes worng by being rezzed by someone else.
Basically you are running round like a cross between a ninja and a scared baby while taking whatever shots you can get in. It sucks.
.
When Mr. Johanson said that, he was referring to combat grind. You know the whole, stand there and swing your sword till the enemy dies thing. He was not referring to the grind it takes to get things.
And yet that is EXACTLY what the combat is…so can we assume that Mr Johanson was talking from some kind of orifice he keeps undeneath his hat?
Not sure how you do combat, but I don’t stand there auto attacking. I use movement and dodge. Along with all my skills when needed for certain situations.
Well, sorry but I have news for you….ALL MMO’s have different skills, but when it all comes down to it there isnt a single enemy in this entire game that I can’t take down by pressing “1” repeatedly and staying out of red circles.
In fact, thats mostly the problem. Even WoW had skills that actually had some use beyond meaningless and mostly negated cc, pitiful healing and terrible group mechanics.

Best way to make money in this game by farming is to go outside and plant lots of lots of potatos…next year, when they’ve grown, you sell them all to a chip shop or a supermarket and you use the money you made to buy some gems from the cash shop.
I have been thinking the same thing. Either way, I DID have my moneys worth in fact, that I cant disagree with. However, I’m now at the point where playing the game actually makes me depressed…so I can’t imagine logging in much to be honest.
Guess I just hope they eventually listen and change it.
Nah…you rarely get a bag and if you do it drops silk or leather. They nerfed it to the floor.
If Anet didn’t want people to farm they would have drastically nerfed the loot and amount of enemies in Orr.
Erm…hate to break it to you bud, but they DID do that.
I had a salami and cheese sandwich yesterday for lunch. It was THE sandwich of 2013.
Why?
Because I say so.
Incidentally, I have no complaints about this particular event…they made the Jade weapons obtainable without spending cash. I have three so far.
And still, it’s only skins. Nothing obligatory to have, nothing to create so much hassle about as we can see at the forums. If they were linked to better stats then we would have a major issue to deal with. But cosmetics?
Because, my fine friend, skins is basically ALL this game has to offer once you have experienced the vacuous content hundreds of times already.
Oh…..wait. I’m going to bed instead…night night.
I think its the forum to be honest though. I might go farming instead.
Cant work out if the forum sucks harder than the game?
Seriously? “C A S H” is now in the profanity filter? Well, thats rich.
This is true, but unfortunately I’m too busy being lost in fantasy world to turn my undoubted genius into cold hard cakitten
hink I may need to go to Sad Nerds Anonymous
Just get rid of everything in the game apart from the trading post and Lions Arch, then once you have proven how big your metaphorical sphericals are after a hard day on the trading floor attempting to make a profit whilst cunningly avoiding the pitfalls of the mega-boss “15% TP fee” you can buy a new sword and go swing it about in front of the trading post.
Its no coincidence that the new armour features a shirt and tie effect, clearly they want everyone to be Gordon Gecko.
ANet knows that to keep people interested in the game there has to be a constant excitement factor.
Are you sure they know this? Because all I can really recall about the game lately is hammering in signs, looking for a refugees lost wooden toy endlessly (so heroic), hitting pinatas till your head spins, betting on some random bird out of 5 turning up first past the post and hanging round a hologram projector for 10 minutes in the hope that no one else turns up.
I would say they have absolutely no idea that a game requires a constant excitement factor. Even Solitaire is more rewarding.
But there is an answer. The answer is that “the perceived drop rate nerf you are experiencing is
a) In your mind….seriously theres not a problem
b) in order to improve the economy. Rates will be adjusted on a regular basis
c) something which we are investigating due to the number of complaints
d) entirely by design, we have people to pay and we need you to buy stuff
e) a bug, we are working on a fix
f) not something we even care to tell you about, so shut up”
And you are right, I am not actually ENTITLED to an answer, which is why I put it in speech marks. However I do deserve one, as I have actively supported the game by spending money on it and won’t continue to do that unless I get one. I am the customer. The customer is always right.
