I have to agree with the predictions laid forth, however I’m not sold on the “new Destiny’s edge” idea. The original cast of Destiny’s edge, from a story perspective, is open ended and necessary for the elder dragons and the continuation of the main plot. From a business stand point the voice actors are all but impossible to get together for releases every two weeks….which is why we see these filler characters.
Marjory and Canach have no role hunting down elder dragons. Rox and Braham…perhaps, but are entirely Scarlett related from Flame and Frost.
The entire L’S season 1 cast is Scarlet oriented. It would take a large leap for them to go from the current line of revenge/meddling in Mary Sue’s plans to ridding the world of dragons.
Post feminism has caught up to Arena.Net. I dont see an issue, though, Op. The writing casts males and females so poorly anyway that the sexism realky doesn’t matter.
Never thought otherwise with this skill. Might as well have been an environmental item.
Trying to explain bad reasons for the story with new reasons outside of the given story it is an exercise in futility. If you think this is lore capitalising writing you already missed OP’s point.
Glad it worked!
There was another NCsoft game which abused RNG for top-tier/valued items. I remember thinking at the time that the idiotic idea for such a system was a fluke of game design which would likely never occur again. It alienated and decimated the population.
However that game didnt offer you the chance of real world money to try and try again…
Likely the install client is not recognizing minimum specs to run GW2. A simple driver update for your video cards should allow the client to perform the install.
Source: I had this issue yesterday.
Pulling with scorpion wire or stunning him in a group will make this much easier. Seconds of your time…
Bingeplay: the gw2 meta which has replaced gameplay.
How disappointing
I noticed that luck is now labeled as an ingredient in artificing. What recipe is this included in? Personally I am a bit confused as to why anet thought this was a good idea.
Luck is an account bound “currency” derived by blues, greens and most notably ecto salvages (thereby inferring rares and exotics as well). I fear for my further continuation of this convoluted system of dependencies on commodities.
I believe those skins are only obtainable from map completion or very rare drops in orr zones. Due to this, and everybody already (for the most part) having completed that… It’s likely the creation of them has stagnated.
With that being said it is possible they removed the skins as redundant.
The flaw in the comparison being I work for the cash payout. I play gw2 for the fun, not the cash payout. If rewards are your ends to your means you’re analogy needs reworking.
I’ve found myself sitting here with a book while I wait for my chance at the next Tequatl spawn. I have not had a decent shot at him yet, mostly due to the server size limitations and popularity of attempting to kill Tequatl (presumably for achievements and little else, as it is fun, but the rewards to not enough to keep people from coming back to wait in this terribly un-fun line)
What’s going on with content design? I have a feeling this overwhelming amount of attention is because everybody is afraid that once the hype has fallen, very very few attempts will be made at Tequatl and they will be left to their own devices to complete the event.
What’s the alternative, though? Perhaps keep him around for further attempts quicker than 1.5-2 hours. I don’t know the answer to that beyond decreasing the spawn rate. I do know that this is not fun and my logs into GW2 are becoming less and less frequent. Such a shame. I love(d) the lore and world. Gameplay? ….
take a look at your lft tool. Many servers are setting up a Taxi service to get folks into the event.
How? I don’t see /join as an option anymore.
invite please!
Good idea.
Our personal story achievements clearly were intended to be awards our characters receive – why was this not fleshed out?
Will it be added in future releases?
Will it be fleshed out?
I hope so. I only have half a family heirloom!
Wouldn’t it be nice to receive these as nice looking skins or even ascended items…
There are 3 sets of these stories for each race. 15 in total. I’m interested in all of mine, as well, but man… the undertaking to continue that story is just crazy to think about. I honestly don’t think they have the resources.
I think Zhaitan is just as dead as now as he was after the last dragon crisis many years ago.
I don’t see the Tequatl upgrade as a change to the lore, just a change to the encounter to make it more interesting.
Yup. From your character’s perspective Tequatl has always been this strong. no lore needed. Gameplay updates are just gameplay updates.
Why would this not be a retcon for gameplay sake? Hes always been thus strong from a character perspective.
Imagine that. Failing to push Tequatl back causes undead to pillage towards the lesser zones.
Extremely well written OP.
Don’t discount the skillpoint exploit. Started plummeting much more after that.
Whats this now?
Secondary races will never be playable. This includes everything listed prior to my post but Largos. If Anet retcons their lore for Tengu to become a primary race (complete with culture and tech to be listed as such) then this is a possibility. That would fit, as the 250 year gap gives them this ability. Personally I think the Tengu clamor needs to stop. Its clearly Largos.
What criteria are you using, by which Tengu are classified as a “secondary” race?
They lack the numbers of the current dominant five (having been forced from their homeland, its unlikely that the single city contains enough to be comparable numerically) but they have a well-developed culture, and a far stronger position in Tyria than the Quaggans, Skritt, Ogres and other minor races.
I’d agree wholeheartedly that I’d like to see the Largos too, of course.
Good question. I just went to the wiki and it looks like that 250 year gap was enough to retcon the race.
Lorewise as they have a city and factions to choose from un gw2. They also have armored models already in place. That gives me insight into the programming behind their playability.
admittedly I was using gw1 wiki knowledge to expel them from major race status.
Edit: my point being stop talking about secondary/ minor races as candidates

Oh and hobo tron will save the princess.
In all seriousness – enjoy SAB if that’s your thing. I just feel disillusioned to the idea of “living story” and the word “living” or “story” and the direction for GW2. Had this been ab side project …wow that would be cool. Instead it’s “living story.”
Excited to see the life in this narrative.
Sorry, but sparkles came to my eyes at the idea of Hob-O-Tron breaking into SAB at the end of World 4 and saving the princess before you have a chance to.
Anyway, if it makes you feel better SAB is a side project. There are the living world teams and there is the SAB team. The Living Story teams don’t work on SAB and the SAB team doesn’t do Living Story stuff. It is just being presented in the Living Story tab because that’s what they called that tab. SAB isn’t part of the ongoing story, it’s just a thing that is happening right now.
I think that does make me feel better, actually. The more you know!

I actually love the SAB and have really enjoyed the small fixes of World 1 (I’m stuck in the water spout part of World 2 so can’t say much for the rest of it). That said, I agree with you that SAB shouldn’t be part of the “Living Story.” While I’d love for it to be permanently available as a mini-game, it really adds nothing to the “Story” side of things or to Tyria. SAB doesn’t “[need] to go” but it shouldn’t have been re-introduced as its own Living Story content, either.
My hope is that the next installment of Living Story will have better quality “story” and less buggy events. I’m not holding my breath, however.
I think those are reasonable and healthy expectations.
Its unfortunate that OP came across as very self centered. I do find myself scratching my head at SAB and its role in GW2, however, let alone released within the worlds only story driven mechanics under a “living story” update.
Obviously in two weeks Aetherblades will invade SAB. It’s only logical.
So true.
Ellen Kiel will soapbox outside the machine for equality, Dredge and Flamelegion will dig random tunnels to allow future interdimensional beings to crash the party all under a deranged /psychotic sylvari’s agenda who inexplicably forgot about the nightmare court, sons of svaniir, human bandits, and possibly inquisition’s similar agendas throughout Tyria.

Throwing myself into this lot as well. I do not begrudge the enjoyment others may be getting from SAB’s newest installment – play on. I am very worried for the development of this game, however. Perhaps taking a break will give me a new perspective. I may drop by the suggestion pit to throw a few notes into that hole. PM me when my story matters.
Does this mean we get our overdue graphic update for meteorological, Minstrel and most importantly Eternity!? I hope a full 12 month year of waiting has finally paid off in waits for this!!
I can’t resist. Are there other kinds of years?
On topic, what was the change needed for Eternity?
I did not want a purple weapon. I wanted a blue weapon. I want it to be blue during the day, and I want it to be blue at night.
I happen to HATE the color purple. It’s the reason I don’t have a Mesmer.
If this gets changed, I for one will simply feel cheated.
(scratches head)
Sorry guys. Colors change. World Turns.
Y u hoarde so much?
I see no issues here. You were given the opportunity to use them and did not presumably because you had nothing worth investing it in. Nothing has changed in the investments available and now you’re angry at yourself, not ArenaNet.
Issue? Anet practically grabbed into our wallets and took at least 10% of our karma. GG
They did not reach into your wallet because the karma was hoarded outside of your wallet. This is on those who were griefing the karma system, not Anet. On the plus side you can now free up bank slots, inventory space and use your karma buffs on events as they are intended.
So if it’s in my wallet you can’t take it, but if it’s in my closet it’s ok???
See the poster above me.

When it’s ready
First off – I have not created a ticket.
Second – I have searched for this issue but there is a plethora of similar issues, but none I can match so hopefully somebody can steer me in the right direction.
Played yesterday (8-6-2013) just fine. Lost power overnight.
Today I can log in, but when I click ‘Play’ I get a flicker, as if the game client boots, then a triple flicker on a black screen and the message
“A serious error has occurred that prevents the program from continuing to run. You can help us blah blah blah”
Under error log the message:
—> Error Logs <—
VerifyAccess failed or denied access with 0×80070716 – 1
File 0×73b8d stream 0×0 cancelled/failed
Failed to lock content pack file: ‘??’
Thanks for the help!
Guardian and thief duo were able to perfect this on evon and with some effort get it on kiel. Scorpion wire, pistol 4, scepter on guardian.
Pretty minimal effort – just let the plunderers return if you miss them and don’t go chasing waterfalls.

Maybe they are on a deadline and only have time to develop one fractal, and instead of them just throwing one out there, letting us decide on which one it gets to be.
They could be working on an expansion or something similar and don’t have time to be implementing all of the fractals they want to add.
QFT. They don’t have unlimited resources, so they are letting you in on the discussion of, “What shall we do for content in the future of this game?” before the conversation is over.
Options are better than none. I am grateful to be able to let Anet know what I would enjoy more as a setting.
So I basically need to play and support my candidate for 1 hour instead of 30 minutes in order to give him/her the same amount of votes?
Don’t really see the issue, this does go quite clearly under convenience and it is not like they will get automatic support just because you buy the package. You still have to actually support them.
That is a good point.
My grievance is generally that money (In game and out) can be used to sway this at all rather than pure gameplay. Greasing the palms, as I understand the role play, is certainly part of a ‘pirate’ ideal – but at some point the roles of gameplay and the marketing for the company do need to be exposed.
In this context I still believe the economic war will trump any gameplay war. How is that entertainment?
“Election Support Bundles can be used to help players support Evon Gnashblade or Ellen Kiel in their campaign to be elected to the Captain’s Council. Each support bundle contains a buff that will double the players’ votes cast for 30 minutes and display five banners that can be placed to visually show the players’ support in the world. Support bundles are available in the Consumable category for 125 gems each or 5 packs for 500 gems.”

I’m all for Anet making money on the gem store, but this crosses the line for me. If this were known prior, I would have clammored to just make us outright by the junk in the first place from the store without a vote process. The people who [stupidly] buy gems to vote for the losing opponent will certainly have a bad taste in their mouth and is likely to generate contempt for the game and company.
What does the community think?
orrrrrrr…..
just replacing the MF stat with a different stat.
None was aking for new gear tier. Do not implement the ascended gear. Please, don’t!
Also there are so many questions around this new – are we going to be able to insert runes in those? Are they going to have a new design? Are we going to see new runes in the game (i.e. the most expensive runes are going to became obsolete)?! Etc. etc. etc…
Back in 2012 when the release of Ascended trinkets came they told us their plan all along was a max level of ascended items. All of it. How you can think that they wouldn’t do that is beyond me. They’ve promised that’s the top. It’s a 3% increase. Woopty.
further proof anet doesn t care AT ALL of players feedback….unless you tell hwat they want to hear of course.
Usual pattern of MINIMAL gameplay updates opposed to a lot of grinding and nerfs.
making all exotics skins useless and i bet they won t add as much ascended skins.
Subjective material has no use. Exotic skins are already useless. If you thought otherwise it was an expectation that you had which let you down, not something Anet did.
And unless I read the forums poorly, the only people whining are the ones who don’t understand the actual update. Anet is doing only what people have been asking for nearly a year. Work on dungeons. Check. Work on rewards. Check. Work on crafting, make it useful. Check. Allow us to get precursors another way than RNG. Check. Make more legendaries. Check. God I could just keep going.
Cheers, good luck and HAVE FUN in the game.
The purpose of this thread is to discuss the actual merit of reduced waypoint costs during a 4 week period and how that may affect your wallet and time when playing in game.
Until further notice the actual amount discounted on WP travel is purely speculative.
The two arguments I see for two types of people:
1) I currently WP as little as possible because of costs. Having a reduction will allow me to save time during these 4 weeks.
2) I currently WP anyways, so it would be nice to save some money for a 4 week period.
The problems:
1) The consumer generally looks at discounts and blankets the general savings over their previous ability to say ‘No.’
In the end the consumer will use the commodity more often than is even necessary just because they can within the duration of the savings. Time management will end up becoming a secondary reason when jumping from within zones themself just to save 20 seconds.
2) As with above, a consumer will end up justifying the over-use of using reduced costs that they regularly do anyways. Instead of heading to The Mists to get to LA, for instance, one will WP directly to the Bank WP. In the end, because of reduced costs, more money will have left your wallet than if the reduction was never there because of justified over use.
Kiel is promising something politians do every election. Something you think you need, have little use for currently because you’ve lived without it, but will actually become a larger money sink during it’s implementation and when it is once again removed from the economy.
Thoughts?
The charrs don’t even know that Abaddon was behind these events.
Boom. Kiel has the worst campaign advertisers.
The name is ‘Desert Rose’ which originates (presumably) from the Southsun Survival PvP course.
Based on further speculation:
1) It’s a simple name for a reskinned item. Does it need a theme?
2) Evon’s contribution to FoTM is the ‘Fall of Abaddon’ which, if taken literally, is the very reason why the Crystal Desert became a desert. When he was cast down into the realm of torment by the other gods the land was transformed into an arid climate.
2a) This has nothing to do with the acquisition of the back piece, but certainly does coincide with a desert theme.
Why would you vote for this shady charr?
He’s selling us Aetherblade armor in his shop, where do you think he got it?
Probably from killing aetherblades and selling us their clothing.
The Fall of Abaddon denotes something different than the Defeat of Abaddon.
In GW1 the heroes did not cause Abaddon to ‘Fall.’ He was replaced, killed, defeated.
My family history records how Abaddon was defeated – because they were there when it happened. Either Evon is actually looking to research the events that lead to Abaddon’s confinement instead, or he has shown himself to be even more out of touch.
- Magister Lothar Draxynnus
Yes, I believe he is researching the original defeat where Abaddon was cast down and bound by chains in the Realm of Torment.
On a fractal note, all I ever hear is “No more scifi, more fantasy!” which is really where these dungeons will boil down.
Abaddon’s demise will be fantasy driven, vs the reactor explosion which will be sci fi driven.
Despite my desire for cheaper waypoints, I will have to put my vote in for a slice of Abaddon event driven history.
