What do you think about the Guild Wars 2 "community"?

In game: Helpful and friendly. Great people. Really make the game fun.
On the forums: They like to complain a lot about everything.

Ditto and usually it’s the same complainers but ingame I’ve found nothing but nice people willing to help and direct you if you have questions. Not one chat text has been about being disappointed or this game suxs.

Grind - Staying or Leaving

I think Anet want the game to attract and retain interest. Just need insightful feedback from people to help figure out the best ways to do it.
One obstacle I see is that I don’t think a lot of people really know what they want. They might feel things but associate those feelings with the wrong aspects.

This is very well put, exactly what I’ve been thinking as I read through these posts. Players don’t really know what makes them happy. We go from “I’m bored at endgame, there’s nothing to do” to “there’s too much grind at endgame.” Fascinating.

First its “not enough people for dynamic events” to “I’m tired of running the same old dynamic event”

It’s true you can’t satisfy everyone, but at this rate developers satisfy no one. I think a lot of you need to step back and see what you really want to do with your free time, because it sounds like you’re looking for things that just don’t exist.

No grind in WoW? You don’t have to grind for your tier sets in that game? C’mon, now.

I think we are looking for a reason to be dissatisfied.

If one type of game doesn’t give you enough of what you need, but another one does, let’s say MoP for sake of argument, then why not play both. With no sub fee here, if you are bored or there’s too much grind or whatever the reason you are dissatisfied, why not go play with ninja pandas for a bit, play this for a bit. Why is there such a need to play one game, the same one, constantly, to be satisfied, when there are so many available.

With no sub, you’re free to roam and come back at will. When they have expansions, and they will, come back and see what’s new. When you’re bored a day or two later, go play something else that’s more satisfying.

I don’t just read one book for a whole year. Sometimes I read a few, even before I finish the one. I don’t just see a single movie, or listen to one song. I have a wide selection of stuff I listen to and watch. I don’t just have one friend. I have a few, and hang out with one or the other. Sometimes one friend wants to do something I don’t, so I hang out with another. So why play just one game?

It’s called variety, which is also referred to as the “spice of life.”

I personally feel this game has tons to offer, and it’ll keep me busy for quite a while. I agree some things need to be tweaked. I also agree not everybody’s playstyle is the same. But what I don’t understand is why the animosity, when you are free to install more than one game on your pc, free to play whatever you want, no one is asking you to pay multiple subs for anything anymore (except for MoP). So, give your opinion of what you would like to see made better by Anet, feel free. But its not game over by any means. The sky is not falling. Subs will not be lost. If they are, they will be constantly replaced by new subs, cause….again, no fee. The dynamic has changed.

It’s almost 2013. These “endgame fail” arguments are really obsolete.

Variety. Learn to live it.

Good post +1 especially the one where “people are looking for something in the game to be disappointed about”. They flock to these MMO’s to BE disappointed so they can goto the forums and post their disappointments I guess hoping it will stop others from playing it or buying it? lol Never gonna happen though with this game and/or WOW. They are just too popular.

yeah like diablo3, swtor, aion etc

Well the player base has never made for good reviewing or scoring really. They are either fanbois and give the game a 10 and no game really deserves a 10 or they are game haters and give the game a 1 or 0 and of course no game really deserves a 1 or 0.

So professional reviewers are more balanced and realistic. Diablo III really isn’t a bad game for the game itself. What it got bad reviews on by gamers was the launch and the emphasis on the Live Auction House exploit by Blizzard to practically force everyone to use it that wanted to play in Inferno level.

So just reviewing the launch and a feature you don’t like about the game isn’t really a review but a whine and complaint. Professional reviewers give a lot more detail and information about the WHOLE game not just what they like or don’t like about it.

No dyes should not be account based as there’s money to be made off of them so if you want them you either have to find them or BUY them. No need to reduce the money made from the economy just because someone doesn’t want to earn them or wants something easy.

If you’re GRINDING at lvl 80 it’s because you CHOOSE to grind since it is NOT REQUIRED. Anet stated there would be no grind and from 1 to 80 and the max gear there IS NO GRIND. What you call a GRIND is an OPTION not a REQUIREMENT thus you CHOOSE to GRIND and COMPLAIN about it. What did you think they would do? Hand you EVERYTHING in the game in a few weeks time? LMAO hahaha Sorry but if you want EXOTICS and other ELITE GEAR you WILL GRIND for that but of course IT IS OPTIONAL NOT REQUIRED.

This is the typical fanboy answer. If that game would be Aion.

Do you forced to get new gear to play the game after lvl 55 (or 60?) ? No..you are not! Are you forced to grind? Yeah, if you want to do something in the game, YOU HAVE TO GRIND.

Wanna play Gw2 after lvl80? You are forced to grind. Is that a fact? Yup it is.

About pvp:

Try to join as a group in sPvP if you just want to have fun, and not going tournament. Gl

If you’re incapable of arguing your point of view without resorting to insults like fanboy (which you’ve used several times now in this thread) you really shouldn’t post because it does nothing to get your points across

+1 to you for being correct. Some people (OP) just can’t handle being WRONG. There is CLEARLY NO GRIND UNLESS you CHOOSE to grind.

I haven’t logged in in several days. all that awaits me is the incredibly tedious grinds of end game and the complete imbalance of pvp, so i can’t really find a reason to play.

I must say that the collective attitude of these forums has also severely dissuaded me from playing. It’s like nobody can argue or refute a point without resorting to childish name calling and taunting.

I do not have any faith at all that Anet will ever make the end game any more enjoyable than it already is. They don’t have any reason to, what with no loss of revenue if we quit, and they have droves of fans telling them everything they do is right.

I guess i’ll always have Kerbal Space Program.

Did you see the REVIEW scores as well? In the high 90’s So, when you have so many professional reviewers telling you how great the game is you should believe them.

Just as an example http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/guild-wars-2
compared to the release of DIABLO III the player scores were HORRIBLY low in the 4’s but they like GW2 so it’s very popular now and GROWING.

Dear Arenanet!

When I bought this game you were all over around the grind topic:

-No grinding!
-Anti-grind game!
-Fun > Grind!

Yet what we got? A typical GRIND game. I’m not mad.. I think its a fun single player game 1-80, but after that… Well yeah!

Where is the content everywhere thing? Where is the epic Orr you promised? Orr is just a place with bugged events and fastly spawning risens.

  • What did I expect from Orr?
    -Epic events.
    -Good story.
    -Epic fights.
  • What did I got from Orr?
    -Bugged events.
    -Sometimes a story.
    -Herpkittenmass spawn fights.
  • What did I expect from lvl80?
-Going around the world, enjoying the game with my friends!
-Clearing dungeons, getting all sets having fun.
    -Crafting cool stuffs.
    -Trying to get legendary weapon.
    -PvP and WWW with friends.
  • What did I got from lvl80?
-Grinding around the world. After 30min, you are not even allowed to grind.
-Killing the 3 dragon all over and over again.
-Clearing dungeons once -> Looking at set prices -> Giving up on all sets. Not having fun.
-Crafting the same stuffs…or not. Its not even worthy! Selling the mats is just more worthy.
-PvP alone because there is no join as a team options.
-WWW with friends if we are lucky to get in together.

I’m just curious because why not… Shall we expect some changes about these subjects? Will you make this game more fun than game oriented, or you just leave this as it is?

Honestly, I did enjoy the game 1-80, but after that, my western style sweet dream mmo goes into a korean style nightmare mmo!

Oh and this is not a QQ, it worth every cent I spent on this game, because that was fun. So just tell me… Is there any chance that I will have fun in this game in the future instead of grinding?

If you’re GRINDING at lvl 80 it’s because you CHOOSE to grind since it is NOT REQUIRED. Anet stated there would be no grind and from 1 to 80 and the max gear there IS NO GRIND. What you call a GRIND is an OPTION not a REQUIREMENT thus you CHOOSE to GRIND and COMPLAIN about it. What did you think they would do? Hand you EVERYTHING in the game in a few weeks time? It’s like going to Walmarts on a Saturday if you expect to get in an out in a hurry you’re in for quite the frustration when they only have 3 checkers and 100 people want to checkout. lol I always go shopping with the idea of not being in a hurry or that I most certainly will have to wait inline.

Just 1 level. any level really, im just curious

I’m on a rate of about 2 levels per playing period of sometimes 2 hours or less sometimes max of 4 but a lot of that time is spent chatting in the chat window and exploring the crafting tables etc. I made level 37 today and that took most of my playing time of a couple of hours. But, I was also doing my “dailies” and so I had to run around to several places to get enough different kinds of mobs killed to get my points. Also, had to do 5 events today (seems this keeps going up each daily?)

Learn to accept the game for WHAT IT IS, not for what you want it to be.

Learn to play at a slower more explorative pace, not rush to the level cap so you can whine about no content or there’s nothing but grind left.

Learn to SOCAILIZE within the game instead of grindfest or speedquest.

Learn to help others within the game instead of only caring about yourself and your kitten.

Sacrifice yourself in PVP to save ME and there will be 72 virgins waiting for you in the afterlife. hehe

I agree with the OP, this game could be alot more but it needs a big overhaul which I doubt they would implement anytime soon.

Also some people have mention the lose of skills which is huge compare to gw1, the feel of every map being the same just different graphic and all hearts. I personally at the moment cant stand to play GW2 because I believe they could have done way more in 5 years.

I have tons of ideas to make GW2 way different that most mmos but those ideas I thought of for a while are not to be given away. With that said If i can come up with these ideas i’m sure their devs can come up with them too. In other words yes there is other ways to make a game but GW2 just did not implement it. I think GW1 even coming out so many years ago is better than this pretty sand box just by allowing more than a grind to 80 with the same mechanics of old with GW2. Ill keep playing since I bought it alredy but not for a while.

You do realize there would be players who would COMPLAIN and WHINE about YOUR IDEAS too don’t you? lol You can’t make the PERFECT game either bud.

Wonder why that is? Gamers who whine or don’t like the game want to see the game fail? You know it’s not going to and I remember the forums and whines about GW1 lol. I guess it makes them feel good if they can pump their chests and say they quit before everyone else.

If you have one level 80 or more in the amount of time GW2 has been out then you are addicted and have a problem. You’re playing waaaaaay too much when you should/could be doing other things like exercising and socializing and procreating. You should be bowling, playing golf, intramural sports, bbqing in the backyard. You should be doing a plethora of things not just playing a silly game.

As I posted in another thread. Some of us work the night shift. Our leisure time is when everyone else is asleep or at work. Don’t act like everyone is giving up social activities to play a computer game when that simply may not be an option.

Hey bud I worked the night shift at the post office distribution center and I still had a very active social life without putting all my time into SILLY computer GAMES. Wolfgrey

i still believe PvP is the main focus.

There are no dynamic events, skill challenges, hearts, or other similar content in PvP unless you count WvW as strictly PvP, and even ANet doesn’t do that. There are 26 massive PvE explorable zones, compared to 4 sPvP maps, all one gametype, and 4 maps for WvW, three of which have the same terrain.

PvP is not the main focus of the game itself. Just because you choose to make it your main focus (and that’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with that at all) doesn’t mean ANet does.

THank you Dusk I’m glad YOU get it. It would appear that the OP is just trolling for some form of attention because the PVP portion of the game is soooooooooo BORING as it should be since this is PRIMARILY a PVE game and thus more emphasis will be put into PVE than PVP evah.

Everyone but him and his trolling troll buddies know what the focus of this game and GW1 is and it isn’t PVP.

I think the two main issues with W3 right now are (1) access issues (not sure what can be done about that, but it’s an issue) and (2) benefit of it is too weak. DAoC had Darkness Falls, a dungeon which was only accessible to the realm that held the PvP areas. The setup here would have to be different because it is server based, but a substantial server bonus like that — access to a dungeon that other servers don’t have access to, which has cosmetic gear that is unique (probably the most unique in the game) — on some kind of a shortish timer (say access is for one of the two weeks and then it resets) would be a step in the right direction, I think. Giving people increased power based on wins would be against the core philosophy of the game, but you could give them access to a unique place where unique and rare gear looks could be farmed (anti-farming turned off for this, because that would be the point) to provide motivation.

Now this ^ is an idea I could sink my game into. Kind of like UW and FOW were before they opened them up to everyone where certain parts of the world had access to them while others didn’t. I could go for that again based on who’s winning the WvWvW but how would it work? You know how players exploit to the side/team that is winning all the time.

Every server has bots. Of this I am 100% certain. They get smarter and harder to curb with each patch Anet seems to release, and I’ve been getting more and more mail a day from gold sellers. It’s ridiculous.

You cannot be CERTAIN of this unless you have played on EVERY SERVER…..I highly doubt you have and don’t give me you have friends on every server because I won’t believe that either. lol

I haven’t even gotten a spam email on my server.

It just happened to be a humorous coincendent that it also tied in with Guild War pvp battles within the game. But, game both GW1 and GW2 was never PVP centric else they wouldn’t have made so much PVE content. If you notice unlike say SHADOWLANDS which was a PVP centric game (that failed mind you) there is NO PVP ALLOWED in the PVE game. SHADOWLANDS was a PVP focused game and it failed miserably. This game would also if it were only PVP centric. Bye now.

This is Guild Wars.“G-u-i-l-d W-a-r-s” As in guilds going to war.So as in PvP. PvP is the focus here. Once you hit 80 you are suppose to soak in the pvp, learn the ins and outs, perfect builds, join guilds, and duke it out. Balancing, new content, and patches will constantly change the pvp scene.

PvE was never meant to replace it.They simply gave you a much larger PvE experience than last time. That is all.

PvP will make this last for many years to come, not the PvE.But having said that there is tons to do with 5 characters on the way to 80 and i am sure it will be a long time before i care. Nvm that i played the original Guild Wars so i know where the true focus is.

Either way folks, grinding dungeons isn’t end game.

Pvp, trying to stand on top of everyone else in SPvP, getting a legion set up for WvWvW, setting up teams and goals, knowing your builds, and learning new strategies is the end game. And that will last til the game’s eventual demise.

Welcome to “Guild Wars”.A game based on pvp.

Wrong! Guild Wars is based on the LORE of the game not about guilds within the game facing one aother or PVP centric. It’s pretty easy to see if you have any brain at all that the game is PRIMARILY focused on PVE content. 100x more PVE content than PVP. PVP is just an afterthought to appease the whiners that want to PVP and thus bring in a little bit more revenue for the game (about 2% according to polls). So, really you need to go back and read the LORE of this game and then you’ll find GUILD WARS is LORE not the FOCUS.

The problem Anet created is with EASY TRANSFERS and players are jumping around like jackrabbits trying to get on the winning servers for WvWvW so what once might have been a heavily populated server are now ghost towns. Fortunately for me there were several servers picked to be great PVE servers from the start and thus we don’t have the population problem on my server and there’s plenty of help when you need it for events. It’s almost funny how many players show up when an event pops anywhere I am. I’m in the 30 to 40 bracket right now and never have any trouble as I said getting help.

My guess is because even though you dual wield those weapons each weapon can also be used singularly by other class that don’t dual wield and to keep the prices balanced for the MAJORITY of players you have to pay the higher cost for your WANT of dual wielding. Thus just make it as a price for YOUR CHOICE of gameplay. Everybody isn’t dual wielding so they pay the premium for ONE weapon at a time plus for an offhand which though it doesn’t cost as much as a 2nd weapon the cost is still there and fair for all.

@OP Wall of text TL;DR

Nobody cares. The main point being you got an adventure of 80 levels and for $60 bucks or less quite a lot. A LOT more than any offline RPG like Baldur’s Gate or Icewind Dale, etc.
Anet always said this MMO would be DIFFERENT from every other MMO out there and as you can see IT IS. There’s NO END GAME because they said there would be NO END GAME….what part of NO END GAME did you not comprehend? It was out there plain as day BEFORE the game was released that there would be NO END GAME so if you came in EXPECTING and END GAME then it’s YOUR FAULT and not the fault of ANET because there isn’t an END GAME or things up to YOUR standards of what an MMO should be……

Learn to accept responsibility for your lack of RESEARCH and COMPREHENSION of what ANET said. I certainly knew there was no endgame like all the other MMO’s before I bought it.

Doing mostly what I challenge the hardcore to do. Stop event and heart farming and just explore and eliminate what’s in front of you. No crafting either. It will take you an anyone else a very long time to get to level 80 and oh no buying gear from the AH you must only equip what you find.

Gaming: Hobby or Addiction?

If you play a GAME like you eat and sleep then you are playing it too much. It’s a game not a way of life. Did you play Monopoly every day when you first got it?? Too many players are addicted to getting to the endgame as fast as possible and then complain there is no content for them yet they missed 75% of it on their way.

I’ll challenge you hardcore players…..play a character to level 80 WITHOUT doing any events, crafting or doing hearts. You can do your storyline but to gain experience you must just kill mobs and explore. Let’s see how fast you get to lvl 80 then.

You don’t need crafting. If you sell all of your materials at the TP, odds are that you’ll be able to afford a couple exotic pieces without any problem. Crafted exotics cost little over the sum of materials in most of the cases.

I sold most of my stocked mats for 8g yesterday.

I think you may have misinterpreted my point.

All exotic gear is equal to each other. Exotic chest piece = another exotic chest piece.

I don’t really have a probelm with that.

But the amount of time required to get a different exotic (for purely cosmetic reasons) is the problem with the lack of being able to solo for it. To get a piece of exotic gear, which is of equal value, requires dozens of dungeon runs.

Now before you say GW1 had a ton of grind to it, a lot of GW1’s grind was also solo…and you could achieve the grind in multiple ways. In GW1 you could farm gold, farm missions, do hardmodes for more rewards or do stuff like underworld for direct materials for armors.

But in GW2, you can only do dungeon grinds for the vast majority of exotic gear.

Thing is you can get MAX level 80 gear without grinding so anything else is for kitten and COSMETICS nothing more therefore there IS a GRIND for kitteners and COSMETIC freaks. Nothing in dungeons is REQUIRED thus GRIND isn’t REQUIRED. If you grind you CHOOSE to grind you don’t have to. Thus Anet told the truth because there is NO GRIND to LEVEL 80 or level 80 Max gear.

It’s not about the grind to get all exotic gear.

It’s the grind between exotic gears.

I don’t see how this is confusing.

To get svanir’s gear it requires dozens of runs in 1 specific instance. To get zhaitian’s gear it requires dozens of runs in a completely different specific instance.

For example to get 1 piece of zhaitan exotic gear it requires 25 speed runs in Arah explorable mode. 25 runs for a cosmetic piece of gear. You can’t get that piece of gear doing ANYTHING else. You have to run Arah 25 times.

It’s not required. Thus it could take years to get and it wouldn’t matter. Not a grind since it’s not required.

sense of gear progression

If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re playing the wrong game. And given we knew that there would be no gear progression a very long time before release, why did you buy it expecting there to be gear progression?

I’ll admit it; I’m a fanboy. But for the craziest of reasons: The game’s actually good. That doesn’t give you an excuse to write off objectivity. If you walked into this game thinking there would be gear progression, despite ANet saying countless times that there wouldn’t be, then you have nobody to blame but yourself for buying a game you decided to not look into.

Be an informed consumer next time.

So everyone who likes what you like is fine, and everyone who doesn’t should leave. Great logic. Maybe if you spent less time trolling every single thread about the endgame, they wouldn’t keep getting closed.

Character development is a core aspect of RPGs. It doesn’t have to be a gear treadmill, but if it’s absent entirely, the game simply won’t retain a lot of players and not enough will be around to buy expansions. Just as some people aren’t interested in gear treadmills, some people aren’t interested in achievement treadmills, collection treadmills, or mapping treadmills. It would make sense to include SOMETHING for progression-oriented people, else most of them won’t be around to buy the next expansion—and GW2 needs to retain a significantly higher percent of its customer base in terms of buying expanions to be profitable.

Also, the dungeon section of the main GW2 website states quite contrary to random blogs that came out just prior to its release that dungeons will reward epic gear, and doesn’t give any indication of “aesthetics only”.

How many of your ACHIEMENTS have you completed? You who want PROGRESSIVE treadmill? I’ll bet you haven’t completed 1/3rd of them yet you are here crying and whining the game should give you what you want. lol

The majority of players HAVEN’T leveled to 80 on one toon. Just because you RUSHED the content doesn’t mean they need to make NEW content for the rushers which are probably less than 1000th of a percent of the whole community. When the MAJORITY of the community starts to reach level 80 then they’ll probably add some more content I’d say in about SIX MONTHS or so.

Is speedrunning dungeons an exploit?

After seeing a method to make about 3 gold per day was considered to possibly be an exploit, it would be nice to know if speedrunning dungeons is an exploit too since I can easily make 10 gold per day by running different dungeons in 20-25 minutes(CoF in 15 minutes) and selling the drops.

Is it possible to get banned for speedrunning dungeons?

I emailed exploits@arena.net concerning this and the method to make another 3 gold per day a week ago but didn’t get a response.

I figured it might be considered exploiting because even though it’s not as profitable as some other things, it’s still more than some other people make for a couple of hours per day. So I really need clarification because I don’t want to make money from something that is considered to be a bug or an exploit or flaw in game design. I’m trying to play within the rules of the game but I can’t figure out what is considered fair play and what is considered unfair, or what is considered a flaw or is intended.

Yes speed running the dungeons and BYPASSING the content is an exploit and they will get you eventually.

@ZuderGambeous

I got to 400 armorsmithing with no grind, just by using mats I earned on the eay to 80. And then, of course, you could sell those for some quite reasonable gold as well.

By the time you are level 80, odds are that you have some 40k karma as well, which should allow you to get an exotic piece.

And again 100 dungeon runs for a set is bull. You don’t need that many.

Speaks the truth….Zuder is just a BAD player.

^Guild Wars is pretty much an online single player game. You can’t compare. Grouping is always possible in this game, but you really can’t achieve everything solo, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Exactly since this is an MMO not a solo-co-op game like GW1 was. People need to get over that this is NOT GW1 and is not going to PLAY like GW1. GW1 was a ROMPER ROOM game compared to GW2 which is going to make you EARN what you get and not EXPLOIT it with solo builds like 55 monks and invulnerable SINS. Thank god Anet saw the light.

I am starting to get annoyed by the guardian, they have no good range. What do you guys think?

No good range?? You haven’t been playing them right then because they have some GREAT RANGED skills check out the ELITE rune books and then the Arcane Sword and the OWL and the HAMMER!! The Scepter is an excellent ranged weapon and I use it often with its AOE circle and of course the Staff has an even great AOE dmg circle but too many of its skills are defensive yet helpful keepiing mobs away from you. Running a Staff and Scepter with a torch can do some awesome dmg fast if you KNOW HOW TO PLAY them together.

Guardian is the BEST profession especially the NORN with bearform and those powerful books of runes. The healing skills are sooooooo helpful and allow me to take on 2-3 mobs or more at much higher levels than myself at least 3 five levels higher. Guardians can play up close and ranged and this is another plus for them. Come in ranged with scepter or staff and then switch to greatsword or mace depending on your style for close up dmg and healing skills. I don’t know how many times bearform has saved me in a pinch but it’s a lot and that one BOON skill that has 10 seconds of everything active at once (save yourselves or something like that) is another life saver. With my build I can put burning (one of the best conditions out there) on my foes one an AOE.

So GUARDIAN NORN is BEST class/profession evah.
