I feel the part that is more forced is that of monogamous relationships at all between the Sylvari. For an obviously curious race in its teenage years, they would NOT be settling for single partners… they’d be all over that open love hippy thing from the 70’s. Sadly, that is probably going to be more frowned upon by fans of the game than the sexual bias or lack thereof.

You’re placing human values and growth on a decidedly non-human race. And the game doesn’t delve into the sexual spectrum of relationships, so specifically pointing out such things would feel a little forced.

Wasn’t that exactly what you were trying to do earlier with Rodger’s Rangers?

Rogers’ Rangers (not ‘Rodger’ as I misspelled earlier) were military rangers who fought in the ‘French and Indian War’. The general fantasy ranger, and the Ranger of Guild Wars 2, is also a character who is a fighter, and is often seen fighting in wars. Such as the war against the Elder Dragons in Guild Wars 2. Someone who upholds the law is not a fighter, but a peacemaker. A police officer, for instance, avoids fighting if possible because he wants to uphold peace and order.

If we are going to go into the discussion of what originally inspired the fantasy ranger, then there is a much higher chance that it was inspired by Robert Rogers, since a ton of fiction has been created based on his legend. Including several different books, a movie from 1940, and an NBC television series from 1958. The Lord of the Rings were written between 1937 and 1949.

I’m a bit confused here with the arguments going on. People are comparing the Warrior Rifle to the Ranger Longbow, yes? They are very similar weapons for both professions, they both have a focus on single target ranged damage, both can inflict cripple and vulnerability and both have a knockback ability.

The question, as I see it, is do you just want buffs to the longbow and it’s niche or do you want a rifle for the ranger? The answer to this has very different answers. We’re not going to get the warrior rifle just to have it, if we get a rifle it has to function differently than both the longbow and shortbow.

That’s another reason why I would like to see a rifle specifically for the Ranger. Because it could be cool to see how a ArenaNet would make a definitive rifle for the Ranger. I love the animations they have done with the greatsword, and I can imagine how well that could translate to a rifle.

But that’s the point. What could they give the rifle that we can’t already do? Giving it roughly the same abilities put together would probably unbalance the class, and just doing it cause it looks cool would be a waste of time when they could be working on other things.

I think that’s the biggest problem I have. Everyone who wants the rifle seems to be admitting that it wouldn’t bring anything new to the table. They just…want a rifle. Because. For the coolz.

And Kasama, our Rangers don’t start off as soldiers against the dragons, unless they’re Sylvari and Norn. The two least technological races in the game. In contrast, the most industrial race will ALWAYS get a firearm, eliminating the argument about Charr rangers not having access to firearms. Every other character is pretty much just some random x, who through certain events get noticed by the big heroes, and start their journey to battle the dragon.

Once people see that they can change the class by asking eliminating the mechanic, I have a feeling things would only snowball from there. Soon, people WILL start asking for the buff. Then they’ll start being more aggressive about having a marksman mechanic.

You keep talking about taking away stuff, or as you put it, eliminating a mechanic.

Again, it’s not about removing feature/mechanics or what ever you want to call it.
It’s about adding to the class. Adding a fix, to something that is a problem.
And yes, it is a problem when one gets annoyed about something, thats supposed to be a addition, but becomes a hinderance.
Such examples can be, again, and I do apologize about repeating myself – when you move from point A to B, or do a jump puzzle.
The camera plain and simply gets in the way, and the pet does pull a lot of agro (Many times such said agro, is other people running by with a train – why does it want to attack my pet when its on passive, and ive not attacked any of them ? )

And I do find it quite paranoid, to think that because some people want a solution to some problems, or throw some ideas up in the air – Then it must create a snowball-effect, wich will stear the class away from what YOU seem to think the class should be.

I do think that Anet can think for them selfs, and know what they want with the class. But this is a forum about rangers, and what people feel needs a second look upon. And since this thread has been made, then perhaps some people would like them to consider, the posibility of a more permanent stow?

There have been lot’s of ideas been thrown up in the air. Some might be valid, or not in your oppinion – But that’s what a forum is about. Making ideas come to life, and perhaps alter things to the better, or not. Depending on the point of view, then again – All is in the eye of the beholder.

I’m pretty sure a lot of what ANet has put out there about rangers supports MY idea of what their intention of the ranger is.

And I personally don’t find this a fix. I find it to be an extrememly lazy alternative to admitting you rolled the wrong class or actually having pets brought up to speed.

Plus, we do have stow option for pets for when we do puzzles or are just traveling and don’t want to pick up aggro. Or anything. It just brings them back out when you take damage.

Same reason we argue with rifles. It goes against what the class is clearly supposed to be. We are a druid pet class with some martial weapons training. We are not supposed to be without our pets ever.

Again, it aint about removing a feature, it’s about adding it.

And on the; It goes against what the class is clearly supposed to be ?

I know the class is defined as a pet class, that’s why I play it – I like having a pet as a tool. But sometimes it’s just plain in the way – So why not add a feature, where I can put it away, untill I want it out again ? Seriously, how can that be a issue ?

I aint asking, nor do I think most are, about a buff when it aint out – That’s just plain dumb, since again, its a pet class. And it would kitten me, if I chose to not have it out in combat (Though it does’nt hit anything anyways in PvP, since people are moving all the time, and seldom stand still long enough for it to get through the hit animation. But for PvE It’s a bloody great tool)

I have’nt read the thread about the discussion on rifles, and tbh this thread aint about that, so i’ll politely jump over it – Yet go look for that thread, and have a read.

(Btw, appologies about any gramatical errors – It aint me native tongue)

Once people see that they can change the class by asking eliminating the mechanic, I have a feeling things would only snowball from there. Soon, people WILL start asking for the buff. Then they’ll start being more aggressive about having a marksman mechanic.

Dat message deletion. I actually got sent to the suggestions forums with that. Jesus Christ.

@SirMoogie: What do you think love means for those couples? They share the same coloring book?

@ Riku: Excuse me for playing a race because I like it’s lore and looks. A new race appealed to me. I thought I could escape the boring, horribly overplayed love relationships. There is no escape in any storyline, except maybe the Stag one, but that’s horrible for different reasons. Excuse me for expecting private life to remain private. I don’t care if it’s beloved is a he, she, or it. I can’t remember the exact wording, but I can remember that it got so stressed even my father got it from all across the room. In the Shield storyline, the love story was so badly written it made me cringe. It’s not even about sex. It’s about pestering me with information I don’t care about.

What did I expect? A story that doesn’t revolve around feelings. I can barely bring myself to care about feelings IRL, but for NPCs in a video game? Is there anything more boring than discussing gay / lesbian / straight couples in video games?

On that note, I’m done. 1/10 for the moderation btw.

Yes, well, not to get the last word here, but…you fell in love with the lore and looks. Everything in the lore tells you that they fall in love on the deepest level. Some guy’s inspiration in life is about to be slaughtered, for example. How dare he call that person his beloved. How dare he.

“Sylvari are usually honest, direct and focused, taking most things at face value. With the dream ensuring there is so much in common with the other sylvari, experience is cherished for creating uniqueness between them. They are eager to learn, experience and understand.”

“Romance and sex is practiced among the sylvari, disregarding gender between those involved. To a sylvari, love is about inspiration, and it has nothing at all to do with the physical form.”

I dont write much on forums in general, but this one is actualy not a bad idea.

Personaly I like my pets, they are a great tool – When they work that is.

It would be a great adition, because of those times where your doing a jump puzzle – Running from A to B, and dont want unneccesary agro. Or when I just plain dont want it there, yeah there are such times

But I do think that they should’nt implement it, untill they fix the pet AI, pathing, and give it the darn abillity to hit a moving target! This is number one in my book, to hit a moving target.. seriously, why cant it ?

Ohh, and it amazes me how many people who dont even read the thread, but just reply what they think they know, out of the header of the thread. Yeah there’s a stow, but 1 point of damage, and it’s there again – only now with a timer. Quite anoying when trying to jump in cramp spaces.

Why the heck argue against adding features to a class ? I could understand if it was removing a said feature, but adding ? Sometimes I think people just argue, for the argument, it’s sad really.

Same reason we argue with rifles. It goes against what the class is clearly supposed to be. We are a druid pet class with some martial weapons training. We are not supposed to be without our pets ever.

No and they never will. A Ranger does not mean ‘a person who uses ranged weaponry’. Here is what it means:

The term ranger seems to correspond to the Medieval Latin word regardatores which appeared in 1217 in the Charter of the Forest. Regardatores was later rendered as rangers in the English translations of the Charter. Rangers were royal officials employed to “range” through the countryside providing law and order (often against poaching). Their duties were originally confined to seeing that the Forest Law was enforced in the outlands, or purlieus, of the royal forests.

Rangers are basicly the protectors of nature and guns are the absolute opposite of nature, they are industry and will never be used in the hands of a Ranger. In any game. Ever.

There’s a huge difference between a royal official ranger who is trained to uphold law and order, and a ranger who fights in a war. You can’t just compare the two based on the term alone. That’s like saying a park ranger and a military ranger is the same thing, just because they share the same name.

Wasn’t that exactly what you were trying to do earlier with Rodger’s Rangers?

The only thing I’m confused about is how Kross and the OP and this person I quoted weren’t expecting this. We’ve been told multiple times that all sylvari are, by human understanding/description, pansexuals, and that they are a very honest, expressive race. So it’s not like “RANDOM PC GAY GUYS ALL UP IN YOUR FAAAAAAACE!”, they’re merely showing us that they meant what they said. I mean…a little research before you spend $60 on your game and roll a race might do you some good.

Seeing how Anet don’t want to boost the longbow, I’d love to see the rifle for the ranger class.

Bleed, cripple, push back, faster ROF, no range penalty, and hits just as hard? I’ll take that over a longbow any day.

Barrage is worthless even with quickness since there’s a max target cap of 5. It’s more of an annoyance than a threat. The only thing it can do that a rifle can’t do is to spam it on mesmer/thief in their down state so they can’t hide from you.

Again, these are all things we can already do. And you assume ANet “doesnt want to” fix the longbow. This points to two things: Longbow works the way they intended it too, or there are other, bigger problems which are more important at the moment. Adding a weapon merely to be a stronger version of another weapon is not good. Even for flavor.

I actually changed my personal story due to how uncomfortable it made me feel.
Everyone has a right to do whatever they wish too in their bedrooms, but they need to tone it down in the game.
If I were to start preaching in the game I would get banned. So they either need to let me teach the Gospel if I so desire or tone it down.

Well, that’s a you problem, isn’t it? Ask them to tone it down because YOU are uncomfortable with it? Where do you get off? And you assume they’re pandering with this race? Hardly. I think they just had a unique vision. And you already changed your personal story. That’s all you need to do.

I’m going to say that this class was never-ever designed to be used without the pet. Hell, the symbol for the class itself is a paw. As is the forum symbol. It’s not an arrow. A paw. As in animal companion. And it seems the pool of people having huge problems with their pets is dwindling. Maybe this is just not the class for your intended playstyle? I mean, I’ve had great success, because going in I never fought against the idea of using a pet. I wanted to use a pet.

The charr grows up in a city that’s surrounded by metal and mechanics, yet they can be Rangers too. A rifle alone can’t turn you away from being a ranger.

Yep. Which is why Charr rangers have hidden pistol and Charrzooka. Since the other races aren’t so technology-based, they don’t need rifles.

Kasama
We don’t need another ranged weapon more then we need a new weapon in general. It’s simply just for adding flavor to the profession. But no one says the rifle just has to shot bullets, like the Warrior rifle skills.

So…then why give us a weapon you admit we don’t need? What else would they shoot? Rainbows and farts? (Dreamer gets a pass here. Legendary and all.)

Kasama
Or how about just making it a CC weapon with cripple and weakness skills? There’s plenty of original things you can do.

Are we talking about a rifle or a shotgun? I’m pretty sure those are VERY different things.

And as for Robert Rodgers’s rangers, they were SOLDIERS, inspired by the indians’ survival tactics. Not rangers in the way this game means. Rangers here are a druid pet class with martial training at its core, and only become survival-focused if the player uses them that way.

You’re seeking logic in a world of fantasy … According to logic, yeah the Ranger is kinda a ranged-druid, but if this game was based on pure logic, it would kinda suck. I think ranger should be able to use any ranged weapons, i don’t see why rifle doesn’t fit, because it’s mechanic ? So what ? In WvWvW i can use asura’s turret to shoot people, why am i able to use this if it’s mechanic ?
I think the ranger’s backgroung is about a character who knows how to aim perfectly ( the warrior have powerfull strength, elementalist can control elements etc .. ) so i don’t see why using a rifle isn’t part of the ranger’s backgroud

The ranger’s background is not someone who can aim perfectly, it is a person in tune with their pet and nature. Rifles =/= Nature.

And, as I’ve pointed out before, we already HAVE two 1200 range weapons. Why do we need a third? That’s just unbalanced. And what would the rifles do that our bows cannot already do? I play a rifle warrior on the side, and it’s pretty much the same thing as a longbow ranger. The only difference? Its normal attack bleeds. Which we already have covered by our shortbow. So let’s take a look here.

Warrior Rifle:
Bleeding Shot: Bleeds on normal (Shortbow)
Aimed Shot: Cripples (Longbow and shortbow)
Volley: Rapid fire (Longbow and shortbow normal)
Brutal Shot: Vulnerable (Longbow and opening strikes)
Rifle Butt: Knock-back (Longbow)

So pretty much, same capabilities as a Longbow ranger, bar bleeding.

Engineer Rifle:
Hip Shot: Pierces (Axe, and Longbow and Shortbow with piercing arrows trait)
Net Shot: Immobilizes (5 pets with immobilize as an attack)
Blunderbuss: Bleeds (We have a better version called splitblade on Axe)
Overcharged Shot: Knocks back you and target.
Jump Shot: AoE blast and jump to target.

So, other than OS and JS, the ranger has everything the rifle has to offer covered. As for those last two attacks, they are certainly NOT in sync with the image of the Ranger (explosive excess).

If you didn’t play WoW, then I can’t think of why you’d want a rifle. Our bows essentially do everything rifles do for the other classes. Plus it clashes with the class’s theme of nature over technology.

I don’t find this a good argument. First off, this is a completely different world. Secondly, the lore behind rifles in this game points to them exclusively being used in war-based roles. Engineers and Warriors, it makes sense, as they are both very battle-oriented (In theory). Rangers, to me, seem more like nature survivalist druids. I mean, their dagger and sword attacks kinda give me the druid kinda feeling. A rifle would just be unpractical if only for ammo and gunpowder. Why carry around a rifle I’d need to eventually buy/make supplies for when I could just carry my bow? It would be a lot easier and cheaper than buying or making gunpowder or bullets when I just need pointy sticks(I know it’s a gross generalization) to kill my enemy? Also, what it the rifle breaks? Every ranger weapon outside of the dagger and swords(and speargun) can easily be made in the wild. And before you bring up the speargun, I think they did that so rangers wouldn’t loose their versatility under water. On solid ground, however, it’s a non-issue. As for ranged master = all ranged weapons, I’d like to say false. I think it’s pointing out that Rangers have the most non-magical ranged options out of the all classes. Two natural 1200 ranged weapons (900 natural range for thieves and warriors), and a 900 range weapon( 130 for warriors and 600 for Necros), with abilites designed to prevent enemies from staying too close to you (Daze and cripple on shortbow, Point-blank and AoE cripple on Longbow, Chill on axe).

It makes sense that the Ranger in the game realized the same thing that we did in the real world when rifles were created. Rifles replaced bows because they had longer range then bows and crossbows, because they could be reloaded faster then crossbows, and because it was easier to learn how to shot with a rifle compared to a bow. The Ranger even uses metal and wood in his other weapons anyway. You are coming with arguments that has nothing to do with how the game is played. You don’t need to buy bullets or gunpowder, your rifles can’t break, and you can carry a secondary weapon anyway. And why would using a rifle in combat remove your ability to use nature magic? It’s just a weapon. This is really just about whether your mind is set in some old fantasy ideal, or you are open to new possibilities.

Because I’m not arguing from the point of gameplay. I’m arguing from the point of lore. Which I think is just as important to consider when possible. And, after its all said, do we really need another ranged weapon? It would just get redundant.

And and this particular instance, I don’t believe I’m stuck in some old ideal. I’m pretty sure rifle rangers IS the old ideal, thanks to WoW and misconception over the term “Ranger”. I just don’t see the ranger as a rifle class. And just because it’s easier to use and has longer range doesn’t really mean it’s better. If I’m remembering correctly, arrows can be far more devastating then bullets, anyways.

Since this game is not, in fact, the first Guild Wars game, it should be taken on its own merits (and demerits, as the case may be). Which means that any experience in the first game is completely irrelevant to the discussion.

And I don’t care if somebody expresses their opinion. What I care about is when people tell me that I should shut up, because they don’t agree with me. Those people can go jump off a cliff for all I care, and those sorts of people are the types whose opinions I don’t respect.

Also, not every piece of criticism that you type is pure gold. And fanboying? Hardly. Maybe we just…I don’t know, like the game the way it was given to us? We don’t not want improvements, but we’re just not seeing the problems other people are. Because we’re blinded by fanboyism? Hardly. We just like the game. We’re not saying “OMG DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING, IT’S SO PEEEERFECT!” I, personally, am saying “I love where this game has gone. There are a few issues, but nothing huge, maybe just some tweaks here or there.” What I read other people saying? “OMG, I hate this! Cut it out of the game! Gimme something new! Kill off this character!” instead of “Could you improve upon this by doing x” or “Maybe re-record this character’s lines and give him some new dialouge?”

I think you should take the time to actually read the posts I’ve made, because it’s obvious you’re lumping me together with other people.

I made a thread about the dialogue here that has gotten a lot of attention. I’ve also been fairly active in a few other threads, where I’ve given civil opinions and feedback for the thread posters, and the developers.

So, if you’re going to get defensive, at least do it with somebody who deserves it, instead of getting your panties in a twist over somebody who’s just trying to improve the game that he loves playing.

I wasn’t trying to lump you. I was pointing out that you merely, in that one instance, were coming off as saying that anyone who takes the time to say “Thanks, I love it!” without pointing out an issue is being a fanboy. And I specifically tried to not specify you in the rant that followed, because it wasn’t about you. If you asked me to think up something I want fixed, I could probably give you 3 answers easily. But I choose not to because many people here have done a fantastic job at pointing out these issues…and directly insulting ANet employees while doing it. Not they do for a fact feel insulted, but there are definitely things being thrown around that are not acceptable to say to someone trying to entertain you. And not that everyone does it. It’s a relatively small amount, but they stick out in my head more.

And yes, I will give you that those are very civil, thoughtful answers.

As I said, I don’t care if somebody disagrees with me. What I care about is when somebody says that all people who have criticisms should just shut up and bask in the glory of the developers’ work, which is obviously a gift from god that we should all be thankful for.

Ok, that was a bit hyperbolic, but you understand where I’m coming from.

Yes, please. The only reason I also have a Warrior is because of the rifle. I don’t even really like the Warriors playstyle. If the Ranger had a rifle, I could replace the Warrior with another profession.
I also love the 1755 rangers that were inspired by Robert Rogers. They used animals like dogs for hunting, and had a great knowledge of nature and military strategy. They only carried rifles.
Further more, it would also be nice to have rifles so we could finally silence the whole; “Rangers can’t carry rifles because they are suppose to be in tuned with nature” excuse. In the real world people evolved from using bows to using rifles over time, because rifles were simple more effective. It only makes sense that Rangers in Guild Wars 2, masters of ranged combat, would recognize the benefit of a rifle as well.

Quote button keeps going out late at night.

Sorry to say this to all of you but there is not one thing in this game that is not an improvement from Guild Wars. Enjoy what you have been given for goodness sake. Nothing is perfect however the team at Anet have nearly done that. You are experiencing their work their hearts and souls and creativity went into this. You all are just criticizing and nitpicking until they feel so disheartened they change things that were fine. So please stop. Anet the worlds you have created both in GW2 and Gw1 have enchanted me since I was 12 I now am an adult and I can say that I applaud you all for your skill and artistry. Thank You!

So sorry, never played GW1.

You can squee and fanboy all you’d like, and I applaud the effort that’s gone into this game (there is plenty to like, which is why I’m still playing), but I’m not going to keep my opinions to myself on what needs improvement. So, you can plug your ears and go, “LALALALALA” while I actually try to help Anet improve their game, for the benefit of everyone.

Obviously not for the benefit of everyone if someone obviously expresses an opinion other than your own. Go ahead – give your opinions. No one’s stopping you. But you know what? I’m of the opinion that someone who has played GW1 does have a little more room to talk than you do.

Should rangers be able to use rifles?

I don’t want rifles, as I believe they do not fit this class at all. Rangers are not snipers by nature of the class. They are more of a druid pet class then what people seem to think it is. Training with swords makes sense with dexterity and control, and one could easily make bows, axes, and torches in the wild. A rifle just seems very not what this class is about – strength of technology. And the game itself shows the one sniper (to my knowledge) is a warrior.

As it was said before, one skill HAD to bite the bullet from the Norn Racial elites. Norn already have more racial elites than other races, so giving them a new skill is a bad idea, it would be unfair for ALL of them to be 10 points, and there’s no need to switch it with another form or put another form up there with it to punish other people.
It’s unfair to snow leopard people to pay 30 pts. No racial elite needs to be in the second tier. We already have second tier elites in our professions.

QUOTE BUTTON. WHERE ART THOU?

Yes, some do. Is it because they are better? Nope. It’s just how the developers chose to put it. I’m sure there’s some weird balance to it. Or maybe it’s for the sake of working for it? I’m not sure. And besides, it’s already been said, why get so worked up? The only thing these racials do right is make you look awesome for 30 seconds. Die in style!

Prideful even as he awakened, Cadeyrn showed signs of having shadows close to his heart. In time he became a capable warrior, but he was one whose versions of logic and justice were different from other sylvari. It was this difference in ideology that would eventually turn his blade against both The Grove and the world.

He was there to witness the aftermath of Malomedies’ first bitter contact with the asura, and in battle he saw no hope in mercy. In each occasion, he only saw peace through aggression, and as each turn was stymied, his enmity of the Tablet grew. Despite a supplication to the Pale Tree, Cadeyrn began to see one thing clearly: the sylvari, with hands tied by the Tablet’s teachings, would never be whole. With this thought in a jealous heart, he began his campaign to corrupt the Pale Tree, and to unleash the sylvari from false morality.
- From the Wiki.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cadeyrn

I don’t see how you’re connecting any of this to there being a problem with the Pale tree herself. According to this, it was just becuase one Sylvari got angry at a non-sylvari, and decided that anything non-sylvari influencing them was bad.

And I think the actual parallel involved is the Unseelie Court.
The Unseelie Court consists of the malicious and evilly-inclined fairies. Unlike the Seelie Court, no offense is necessary to bring down their assaults. As a group (or “host”), they appear at night and assault travelers, often carrying them through the air, beating them, and forcing them to commit such acts as shooting elfshot at cattle. Like the beings of the Seely Court who are not always benevolent, neither are the fairies of the Unseelie Court always malevolent. However, when forced to choose, they will always prefer to harm—rather than to help—humans.

What happens after quest at level 30? She tries to unite them and it fails. She, like Eir, is probably trying to figure out a way to bring them back together. There are more dragons, and remember, Caithe’s often been described as mysterious and unpredictable.

This does not change the huge plot hole that the play character’s opinions are held over hers involving the Sylvari storyline and that she doesn’t contribute much when she has the same dream and 25 years over me. The after 30 quests don’t matter when I’m talking about the pre 30 ones.

Well, I’ll echo Eir here: “This is your legend, slayer.”

You know all those problems people have with Trahearne? If Caithe, Logan, Zojja, Eir, and Rytlock all took the front seat, they’d be in the same position the story puts Trahearne, we would never hear the end of how these are not our personal stories.

I…don’t think the Dream works that way. Remember, the Nightmare Court was formed by a firstborn and some of the first Sylvari that came after. The Pale Tree does not control the dream, and the Sylvari as a whole can dictate their own lives. How exactly has the tablet affected them that much? The existence of the Nightmare Court and the Soundless should be evidence enough that the Tablet isn’t controlling their lives THAT much. The tablet itself pretty much just says: Don’t be a bigot, be rational, and follow life."

I hate all the dances except the Charr and Sylvari ones. Cause they’re rather crappy modern-day stuff in a medieval-ish fantasy world. I realize it’s one of those things that every MMO needs to do these days. But what’s wrong with finding something more ethnic for the three races that instead got settled with immersion-breaking kitten?

Agreed. Personally? Not to be hipster, but the shuffle sucks, I know it was a thing before LMFAO existed, but they killed it.

Sylvari dance? Weird at first. But I like it now. Norn Dance? Eeeeh. I don’t hate it. But I wouldn’t complain if they changed it. Charr? No opinion. Asura? Pretty good.

False.

They are also highly xenophobic and likely to attack/have negative interactions all other races on sight. They’re evil, but they have a reason to be so. At best, they’re affably evil.

And they don’t want to be free from the Pale Tree. They want to “save” the Pale tree from the influence of Ventari’s Tablet.

And…do you listen to Sylvari around the world? There are quite a few who complain/don’t act happy.

I’m not saying the Nightmare Court is evil end of story, I just don’t see what you’re seeing. At all.

And a lot of the personal Sylvari storyline deals with love, loss, joy, pain, and I don’t think the Sylvari are turning their eyes away from the truth.

What would be cool is if your personality was reflected in the cutscene dialogues (different lines for different personalities).

But she’s there… the whole time. She is present at every meeting with the Pale Tree and most if not all Sylvari missions 1-30. She’s clearly not that busy with the angst if she’s present to have me pick the story path.

ANet – please kill him in a future expansion (or even just a future patch, retcon him if you have to I don’t care) and give us back our personal story!

I need my quote button back.

I couldn’t disagree with you two more if I tried. I have six slots. 3 of them are Sylvari. He doesn’t hijack crap, in my opinion. It’s very organic, and it makes sense that he’s there. He asks you for a few favors. How does that make him bad?

And kill him off? Out of all the solutions I’ve heard, this one has GOT to be the dumbest and the most childish. Which is something I’ve noticed in this game – a lot (not all) of people saying they’re offering “constructive criticism”, then offering stuff like that. “I hate it, it has to go”. Instead of killing him off, why don’t they expand on him, maybe re-do his lines so you like him instead? They won’t change the story, but they sure can improve the way you experience it.

And you know what? When we get to Jormag, I sure as kitten hope we get a Norn that fills the same general role (Pun. xD) as Trahearne. A whole race devoted to killing this one particular dragon, and some human rolls around and does it? That’s just insulting. And the Slyvari opening cinematic shows that they, at least more than the other races, are devoted especially to killing Zhaitan.

At the same time your character doesn’t really display knowing much. They just pick between two-three options that others suggest. I guess this implies that your character had an idea of what’s best but it sure doesn’t feel like it, especially as all the paths get it done.

Caithe also dreamed of killing dragons so I don’t know why my character has more input than she.

Pyronix:
@riku: "Came outta nowhere and feels weak: Well, for Sylvari, he doesn’t. "

Actually, he did come out of nowhere, even for the Sylvarri personal story. After you do the initial stag/crescent moon/green knight quest line, the Pale Tree avatar suddenly infroms Caithe that some dude named Trahearne has just come from Orr and without so much as a hi hello he starts taking over your personal story.

I fail to see how that is coming out of nowhere. What kind of introduction did you want? His entire 25 year life story? And I’m playing a new Sylvari char. I’ve played through all three of their lines. He does give you an introduction, to my memory.

And someone asked why he was an expert if he was only 25? Well…he spent a lot of time in Orr, and Sylvari have been noted to have a inborn interest in death. So it does make sense. If your goal is to cleanse a place, and you spend a lot of time there, it would make sense you’re an expert on it.

Why Can't I Switch Class?

riku.2091

I’m going to take the stance that I really am not in favor of this idea. It doesn’t just defeat the purpose of having the classes int he first place (which I really like), but also, it defeats all the work they put into giving you options. I could play one human who is just so awesome at everything. Or I could play one human elementalist street rat, and one human noble theif. Or better yet, a human noble necro and a brawling Norn warrior. Why would I want to spend my whole experience with one character? Sounds really, really boring. Besides, all the classes in this game were designed to let you do almost anything. I could play support with my ranger if I felt so inclined. Then switch him to a Condition damager.

And the secondary class feature in GW1? Really didn’t change the game that much. You were still limited by your main class’s armor, health, energy pool, main attribute, and appearance.
