Stiv, this is a great post dude, as Scilly obviously agrees. Ideal ways to go about adding more content that doesn’t have to be statistical gear progression.

lol /smh you are only kidding yourself if you think this is a pve game. As of now, the only replay value (which I’d like to see change for pvers too) for this game, is pvp.

Or what the guy below me said.

I like pve as it is, don’t want to bother with team strategy or group composition, instead of spending an hour coordinating and changing builds I can join an event and have fun with random people right away.

WoW style gameplay and trinity doesn’t appeal to me at all, don’t want raids where one player sucking or making a mistake at the wrong time leads to the whole group wiping. The casualness of it is what got me into GW2 to begin with.

The point of this is not to take away your playstyle but to add another playstyle to the game. As long as your not forced to do raids to obtain gear then I dont see an issue with them being added. What im saying is that for an MMO to be truly successful then it has to appeal to as large an audience as possible.

Adding more people playing the game will equal more sales and more content. Adding raids could indirectly benefit you. If dealt with propely so as not to be detrimental to the game itself.

Very open-minded response, refreshing to read, thanks.

My assessment over a month after the official launch.

To this day, I’m not level 80, I wvwvw and spvp everyday and in fact, have leveled entirely by wvwvw.

I’d still like to see more content (whatever the solution is) for players @lvl80.

I got you. Look, lol, they’re trying to innovate this genre. Pioneers somewhat. That kitten is not easy. I agree with you on the replay value, as I argue for any kind of additional content @80. But we’re not paying monthly for this feature, so to some extent, this game is revolutionary in that it combines elements of MMO and SRPG together.

I know they have a vision for their game too. And I won’t be surprised if you see future mmos (Titan included) building on the goals ANet is trying to achieve.

Man, I know where you’re coming from Travleer. But c’mon, tell me you didn’t have fun with this game? It really does boil down to “was it worth your $60” and in that sense, I find most of us agree.

Seems some of us are spoiled from previous games, myself included. After reading the Oct. 4th statement, I’m starting to see now they need our patience, and if we give them that, they will come through.

I will very likely be purchasing expansions.

It’s kinda like, hey there’s 80 levels, but there’s no endgame and nothing to do at 80.

So its like, why am i leveling at all then?

Kind of has no purpose, and by the time you level 1 class to 80, there is nothing at all fun about doing it again.

No progression makes everything feel completely pointless and makes you lose interest really fast.

Say what you want, after about 3 weeks i got totally bored of this game, yet i can play WoW for 8 years and it still holds my interest.

Then go back playing WoW.

/wave

Terrible attitude, my friend, just terrible. Not saying the guy you quoted is much better, but some are his points are valid. I mean you can see the tide changing on the forums as it’s becoming increasingly clear what more and more people would like to see improved on a game we can all appreciate for its architecture and gameplay.

Hate to break it to you.

I’m gonna ignore the demagogue fallacy of your rethoric, but as I see you only read what you’re interested in (confirmation bias), I’m gonna put it again:

“You’ve got the breed of players that have become so dependant on Skinner’s Box paradigm that they cannot see the forest from the trees. Their first MMORPG was WoW and basically they cannot conceive another way of playing differents from the stats treadmill.

It’s quite easy to spot them as they mainly whine for WoW features. Also they have an obsession with empty concepts like “leveling process”, “endgame (read: stats chase through the mindless repetition of heavy scripted instances where you got to smash the same rotations over and over and over)”. They also mistake “character progression” with “stats increase”.

Their main motivation, besides adiction (the true carrot of linear treadmills, Blizzard knows a lot about this), is to get to get maximum experience in minimum time, to a point where they can one-shoot everything and everyone (no need to say they complain hysterically about escalation and lack of stats increase at max level). They usually play in a non-intended way, using shortcuts and farming high-experience content to accumulate gold and mats so they can “control the economy”, causing super-inflation and grief to the rest of the community (no need to say they complain hysterically and disingeniously about DR).

In my opinion, there’s little to do about this kind of players. After all, what can you do with a guy who, following the aforementioned practices, has missed the game?"

Again, again and again, if you want Skinner’s Box or stats progression, don’t waste your time, go back to WoW. The sooner the better, for all of us.

Did you know that there were MMORPGs before WoW?

Goodness, you give me too much credit. I keep it simple. I have never played WoW. I simply would like to see more content for players that are level 80, what’s wrong with that?

Has Guild Wars 2 been worth your $60.00?

Map completion should still be split into a PvE form and PvP form. PvE one gets you the PvE oriented part of a legendary. The PvP form should get you the PvP part of a legendary (or for WvW only players who don’t care about dungeons, crafting, or PvE, something that helps them in WvW).

No it should not. Sorry, hate to tell you this as it has already been mentioned so many times. This is a pvp game with pve content. The first I know, shocking really.

Well, would you look @ that.

This guy actually likes the game! You know what? Almost everyone here does in fact, except about half would like to see more added content for game we’re all playing for level 80 characters, and half just think that’s preposterous!

Opinions on Raids

I think I lost you guys some. What do you guys think of this idea though?

Also my boyfriend had a neat idea. Of making like a “Hardcore” dungeon mode. Where you would need 10 people and the bosses and trash would be harder/larger. And you could do where you get say 120 tokens at the end. Where they could make a second “Dungeon gear” set that was like twice as expensive. This way if you didn’t want to raid you could still do dungeons normal to get it it would just take longer.

This is a good approach as you’re trying to appease both gamers.

Who said raid content had to be more than 90 minutes long?

What does "END GAME" mean to you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rook.4625

rook.4625

Coming at it from an almost entirely single-player RPG background with a big dose of sandbox games thrown in “end game” to me means one of 4 things:

1) You’ve finished one version of the main storyline. Time to;

  • a. Make a secondary character to try out some other choices.
  • b. Go do all the side-quests (aka hearts and dynamic events) you haven’t yet completed, finish exploring the map, get your favourite/the rarest gear, collect all of whatever you’re collecting (that last one may not apply to everyone but I’m a collector by habit so there’s always something.

2) You’ve finished all the developer-defined goals. Time to make up some of your own or do those things you always wondered about but never got around to. (You’d be surprised how often sandbox style game-play works in other games as long as you’re willing to consider finding out if your goals are possible it’s own reward.)

3) You’ve literally finished the game and there is nothing left to do. You’ve probably had a few hundred hours of enjoyment from it which is pretty good value for money compared to most forms of entertainment. Time to put it down, at least until new content is added or you feel like it would be fun to play through again. (Seriously, there’s some games I could play in my sleep I’ve completed them so many times but they’re still a lot of fun so I keep going back to them.)

4) Get involved in serious PVP. That pretty much never ends because you’re playing against other people who are always adapting their tactics.

What most people call “end game” I would consider part of the game itself. Like everything else it’s there to be completed but I don’t see the appeal in doing it over and over and over again, especially not to the point where you’re on a schedule it’s almost become a second job, but with less tangible or practical rewards.

lol how much does ANet pay you?!

@rook

“This game is first and foremost a pvp game with pve content. It won’t appeal to the 50% of mmo players and it’s about time people come to terms with that.”

Interesting conclusion, given the game is actually about 85% PvE only and 15% PvP. It only becomes a “PvP game” when the PvE aspects have been exhausted and there’s nothing else to do. That includes pursuing legendaries, which just tries to shoehorn PvE enthusiasts into WvW, when there’s nothing much else for them to do.

It’s a fun PvE game from 1 to 80+ (depending on how many dungeons you want to run), but anything beyond that, it’s PvP. So yeah, it’s kind of BS to say the play experience doesn’t change once you reach a certain point. In other games, you may be grinding on raids until new content appears, but in this one, you will be grinding on WvW.

You can pvp at any level, anytime. There are even different varieties of pvp: spvp, tpvp, and wvwvw. The original Guild Wars title was a pvp game.

At its roots, Guild Wars is a pvp game.

Hey I also wanted to add, if you run wvwvw there’s potential for massive XP gains from fragfests and chain events.

For example, if your server possesses garrison, and it’s constantly under attack, there are several chain events (Defend the Keep, Repel the Attackers) that merit large sums of XP and are repeated everytime it’s attacked, which happens a lot in wvwvw.

Its called diminish returns, they are making the game terrible for hardcore gamers to make botting less desirable. And probably to let casual players not be far behind (Not only with Diminish Returns but also with the daily quests and stuff).

This may lead to a discurssion and my only argument here is if you try harder then others you should be better than others.

ANet is trying to stray from that mindset.

But I do believe they can cater to both crowds, I do really, this game has the platform for it.
