I’m not slugging through 4 pages of intense arguing. I’ll just state my simple opinion:

I don’t think the celestial amulet itself is OP. I think if changes should be made, it should be to specific Ele and Engi skills that make them OP when utilizing celestial amulet. Do NOT nerf the amulet itself.

Celestial amulet gives ~20% more raw stats than others. Obviously, it should give more because that’s a game design with other amulets but perhaps it should be shaved a bit.

Engies have more access but shorter duration burning. This is a fact. In fact, when you die to an Ele, the vast majority of the time it’s due to burning.

Because you fight him over a long period of time and because the combat log doesn’t care what was the source of the burn. It could be drake’s breath, burning speed, ring of fire, cleansing fire, fire shield, magnetic grasp (with ring of fire), evasive arcana or arcane precision. That’s why condition damage is usually on top of the death log instead of a direct damage. Heck, if you die to a shoutbow, burning is on top as well.

There are two classes who have the best access to burning yet only those two classes have non-viable condition damage build (plus maybe a thief who is the only class who doesn’t have an access to burning). Coincidence?

It is a bad thing since burning is the highest dmg condition in the game and with such easy access to it, it makes literally zero sense. Even though Engineer’s have a random crit-proc it’s still only single-target based and STILL has a lower duration overall with runes factored in.

Engies have an access to more conditions than elementalists. Why do you think there’s no viable condition build for eles if they have such an easy access to the highest damaging condition? Same as guardians.

How is invalidating stat combinations “small steps in the right direction”?

The condition cap blanking condition builds is just as bad as uncrittable bosses blanking direct damage builds.

But because direct damage is the GW2 boogeyman apparently that’s “the right direction”.

Offensive eles are thieves/mesmers meat. As long as those two professions reign supreme in zerker department, ele is forced into bunker/bruiser.

And who has the best access to chill? Necros however how many necros are you seeing competetively lately? Oh just the same one on this broken team called the Abjured. All other necros either did it for one set, or just one game, then immediately swapped back out.

I don’t really understand this argument. If the best team is using a necro, it should mean it’s perfectly viable.

You are not going to convince anyone that celestial d/d ele and/or celestial rifle engi is not broken. These two specifically are on every SINGLE competitive team, some even have 2 of each and one thief, or necro to help with a lil extra damage.

They are but let’s not forget about shoutwars.

Trying to fight the good fight is admirable, some just won’t listen. I’ll list some changes I think should help.

Ele:

Drake’s breath: Reduce to 1 second per tick. This skill has an absurdly low cd attached to it on top of too much burning. No other profession can apply as much burning in an aoe(or single-target).

Elemental attunement: Reduce the boon duration from 5 to 3 seconds. Even if Elementalist’s spec fully into boon duration, it’ll be about 50% which is still quite a bit.

Frozen aura: Reduce duration from 7 to 5 seconds.

Cleansing water: Put back the 5 second ICD.

Elemental Shielding: Reduce duration from 3 to 2 seconds.

Renewing Stamina: Increase ICD to 10 seconds.

Those changes if made all at once would put ele on the same spot as the dhummfire patch. I would nerf few of those things but a bit less severely like 4s on elemental attunement and 2.5s on elemental shielding (we can use fractions after all)· Renewing staming with 10s icd should be made minor trait as well. Cleansing water maybe 3s icd so that you can’t cleanse everything at once. But even if so, those changes will just move ele more and more towards bunker gameplay.

The numbers were (percent damage of full zerker) :
celestial 73,57%
knights 77,67%
soldiers 72,90%
(i used numbers based on gw2skills.net for calculation)

Now if we take a mixed build like knights armor and zerker jewlery and weapon
the difference is maybe 11-12% less.

2 wrong traits can make you already loose 15% easily.

And that’s excluding condition damage increase from celestial?

I’ll see if I can record some reliable footage but you can also test this yourself as well. Arm one of your guys in a full toughness spec and have everyone yolo everything to see who the NPCs prefer to go for. I can tell you right now that a couple months ago, I was always the prime target in full glass with 4 other people in much tankier setups in CM, this is no longer the case for me in that dungeon.

Try this with the molten duo as well, I prefer 2 people 1 person in full toughness the other in full glass and see how the bosses behaves. Try to separate them and examine where the molten firestorm fires his AoE. I’ve had to chase the molten berserker a couple times because he kept moving towards my comrades in higher toughness specs who were on the opposite side of the room messing with the firestorm. He even completely ignored me for minutes.

Whether you need a “healing” guardian or not is besides the point, the fact that he can maintain health through everything that he throws at you WITH the poison dots is the point I’m trying to make. Fully amped, you’re armed with 32.5% additional outgoing healing from runes, sigils, and food, with the healing power you have, its becoming a bigger thing. Don’t forget that Anet themselves has also recognized “support” as a literal role with support skills and the stat archetype to complement it.

Fact is, there is going to be more pushes for those play styles that people want, you can deny it all you want, its happening. Just look at the new rice balls that came out with the lunar festival.

I’m sure they hired AI consultant because it’s so hard to create a typical trinity AI.

That’s specifically because the main things you’re trying to kill take damage as structures, which cannot be critically hit or conditioned, making precision, condi damage, and ferocity meaningless. It’s not really a change from the ‘zerk meta’ that certain people like to complain about.

Um, conditions work against those bosses. It’s just critical hits that don’t.

I don’t hate the idea of the trinity. More mechanics in a dungeon is a good thing. Doesn’t have to be the trinity, but making everything zerk zerk zerk is kinda boring.

I would love to actually see the stats on gear removed, something like everything would be celestial or no stats would be gained from gear. Instead, anet should focus more on traits because gear is one dimensional while traits change (at least should) the playstyle and improve roles. Also respeccing would be virtually costless.

rotten.9753

Actually, I think you didn’t understand my point.
I’m not saying we need specific roles. I’m not saying we need gear for that. We’ve got all of that. Before taunt was ever mentioned, you could take one of the stat-sets and become pretty much any role that befits the usual trinity, was inbetween the three or even had a bit of everything. The game itself allowed for you to become pretty much everything you want and emphasize on the playstile that you liked.
My point is that the game currently is designed to give rewards mostly per dps. You don’t get a reward for anything else.
As you mentioned yourself: Everyone does a bit of everything.
You dropped down a reflective wall and saved a dozen of dps-ing players?
The game doesn’t care.
You just pulled the conditions from a small group of players?
The game doesn’t care.
You dropped one of those weak heals and saved a bunch of players with it?
The game doesn’t care.
Your cc’s kept the mobs away from the squishy, crucial NPC and dps-ing players?
The game doesn’t care.
I think it should. Those are importan things and the only thing the game cares for is dps, even if it comes from a player that is downed half of the time.

Let’s go with an example I encountered multiple times in the last few weeks:
Everyone is zerker and half of the players can’t dodge, because they lack the skill.
Let’s say I’ve got five of them(sadly it’s mostly more) and they all down at the same mob.
Now I have two options:
-Give a kitten about them, I’m self-sufficient, I keep dps-ing and ignore the five players in downed-state. I can dodge so I stay alive.
-I get them up and switch into the water-attunement. I may not dish out any dps, but I keep those five less surivable players on their feet with the healing and together we blast out more dps than I would have done it alone with the fire attunement, resulting in the boss being slain.

What do you think would be smarter? And what would you think would the game reward me with, for being a healing team-player, instead of the fiery solo-zerker?

You mentioned players want trinity-roles so they can be the best in one of the fields “bro”.
To be honest, this statement is so ridiculous I don’t even know what to say. We got that with dps right now. This will always be a thing, even if there is just one role/stat the people care for, instead of three, seven or 201643 roles.

Let me tell you something about my tanky celestial build:
One of it’s core-elements is the combination of “Written in stone”, “Evasive Arcana” and that neat little trait that refills your endurance with signets and arcane spells. Trait-points: 0-0-6-2-6.
With the signet of air I keep mobs from landing that killing-blow on someone while I achive 25% higher speed. I use the earth-signet to bind enemies in AoE’s. With the endurance gained from that, I dodge, switch into the water-attunement and take some conditions from players who need it, right before I switch into fire, drop a fire-field, attune into earth and dodge-roll into the field to blast might around and give an extra-bit with the arcane blast utility.
I see someone downed in a dot-field. With all my hp, refilled endurance and the toughness from earth I get there and pick him up, then heal him again.
All the while I barely get a single hit on me, except for that brief moment the dot-field damaged my while I rezzed the player in there.
When no one is in need of support and the mob is nicely pinned, I switch to fire and dish out some dps. As to expect: It’s a tiny amount compared to a zerker-set.
But in the end I kept a lot of players on their feet and held the boss where he got hit.

The only tunnel vision here is that zerker has to stay the only way to go in GW2.

No one has to be a specific role. No one should have to be bound to the specific role of dps with a bit of everything else.
If someone is good at certain tasks(plural), he/she should be able to fill them, get rewards from the game and players acknowledging it.

I’m not sure I follow. Do you want to be rewarded for playing more supportive spec?

How do you know it won’t change the weakness of the profession when they’ve said some specializations would alter the core mechanics of a class? Now I’m not saying it will, I’m just asking you how you know it won’t.

In my opinion, all you’ve got is assumptions and theories, not fact. And you’re not even sure the Mesmer is only get a Shield. Every other class that we know of, (engie, Necro, Ranger and possibly Guardian) is getting 5 skills, just because you only saw a shield does not mean they aren’t getting something else.

I haven’t said anything about weaknesses or strengths of core professions. I’ve said that their design of skills and traits is lacking. We have countless uninteresting traits and skills which aren’t being used at all or are being used to maximise damage (+%damage) but don’t change anything. Now compare that to revenant. That’s the whole point of OP. And it doesn’t matter if specialisations add something new because the core of the professions isn’t touched.

I think I answered the question. He feels that Specialization won’t help when he hasn’t seen or heard or played anything of them. That’s silly to me.

Specialications will just give you one new weapon (lolshield for a mesmer) and some utilities. They won’t change what’s wrong with some core professions unless they would rework them which will not happen. In other words, revenant is being designed with the experience gained from the design of failed core professions. What devs showed during the PoI was that every skill has a reason and was created with that mindset. Even autoattacks. Plus traits.

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rotten.9753

rotten.9753

Gw2 is not moving toward a trinity. The game is also getting much better at designing difficult encounters that go against the whole “stack and dps” 5x zerkers. Instead, EVERYONE will be able to pull their weight by brining more support and control and sacrificing a little dps.

For instance, I often choose to take off-hand focus on my ele (I don’t play the max-dps build) so that I can stack might and invuln-res allies (ally support)) and block projectiles (enemy control). Some of the potential changes to defiance might make more interrupts more viable, increasing CC (another form of control).

Newer encounters that can’t be beaten with “stacking” increase the importance of toughness/vitality, allowing you to survive some of the inevitable hits and take the load off your allies to have to constantly save your bacon.

The best part is, everyone should take into account bringing more support/control effects with these changes. I already prefer to run PUG groups and ignore standard strategy, so I these things into account. The game is a lot of fun when you don’t just use the most basic/failproof strats that the community has developed so far.

No no no, you obviously do not understand these people. They don’t want players to be semi-dps, semi-support and semi-control (non-dedicated roles), they want fully specced dedicated roles. Until that happens, gw2 has no diversity.

There’s no tanking role, lel. It’s dps/control/support.
