If they have any basis in reality they have already figured that gw2 pvp as a “thing” was essentially dead 2 months after lunch.
This is GW2 and by far the least played aspect of it, is its pvp. That should tell you something.
Frankly, which MMO has higher number of players playing pvp than pve? MMOs means primarily pve and judging by the reaction of people that complain about new dailies in pve it won’t change.
To all the people complaining about leaderboards measuring skill: you are playing the wrong game. GW2 PvP is about conquest, not fighting other players. As long as the end goal of the game is to hold 2 points out of 3 the won’t be about beating other people. There’s some strategy to rotations, sure, but playing solitaire is harder than learning point rotations.
To have a skill-based leader board we need 3v3 koth arena (or some other actual player versus player mode) and someone to do PvP balancing more often than once in a blue moon.
Yea, right. Only deathmatch measures skills, any tactical aspect should be disregarded.
No it didn’t. Watch the livestream again. Colin said it was a new pvp mode, that had guild ladders. That doesn’t mean the mode is actually called GvG, it just has guild ladder support.
Find me a quote of them calling the new mode GvG.
So what happens when players start calling it GvG (because it’s shorter than stronghold)? Which game mode will have more legitimacy? Your unofficial deathmatch or supported by anet esport? Or maybe dungeon tournaments between pve guilds which happens from time to time?
In GW1 GvG was a 5vs5 type of map with some PvE in it.
It was 8v8 and it had similar amount of PvE as DoTA, LoL, etc.
4) You must w8 15 hours for every piece of damask so 1 day for every piece unless you wake up in the night and start to play or don’t have any kind of life outside. The helm need 5 damask so 5 days. 5 days x 6 piece 30 days.
It’s not 15 hours time wait but a time to the daily reset which is at 0000 UTC for EU. Doesn’t matter if you do it at 0100 or at 2300, the next time you can do it is after a daily reset. Also, it’s 36 days for a full set of light armour unless you buy bolts of damask from TP.
Today’s choices for dailies:
daily kryta forager
daily brisban wildlands event completer
daily fractal
daily scale 21-30 fractaldaily pvp player kills
daily necromancer winner
daily thief winner
daily pvp rank pointsdaily wvw caravan disrupter
daily wvw camp capturer
daily wvw keep capturer
daily master of ruinsThe choices for dailies are too restrictive. As for todays choices for PvE, the fact that 2 of the 4 choices are fractals is too kittened for words.
You can play one practise game (hotjoin) and harvest 4 plants in Kryta. That’s all it takes, about 10 minutes.
Try hotjoins and you get 2 dailies effortlessly. If you are afraid of negative comments, toxicity, etc, just turn off your chat. Really, the boundaries of comfort zone of some people here is staggering for me.
Also, I do believe that when ascended weapons/armour were rolled out and people that were playing fractals mainly (and they do need ascended gear) were complaining that they are forced to zerg world bosses over and over again to get dragonite ore, posters on this forum were responding with silly answers like “You should play the entire game, not just a small piece of it”. Well, karma, I say.
1. Bosses with OHKO mechanics.
Bosses that do 40k damage regardless of stats. Those bosses down you instantly no matter how much Toughness/Vitality you have. Healing is also useless there because you do not even get a chance to heal. The best defense is a good offense, as a Zerker team can kill the boss before it even has a chance to use that ultimate attack that you would have to avoid.
Which bosses have attacks that are unaffected by toughness and do 40k damage? I looked through the entire wiki and couldn’t find any mention of it.
and now the real joke
i am in EU, playing on EU servers, i pinged to map IP which was something like 206.127.146.57solve me that riddle
Your ping shows the route to NA because there is a authentication server there which is being used every time you load a new map (iirc). If you check your resource monitor (ctrl+shift+esc, then performance, then resource monitor) you can see 3 connections to gw2 in network tab. The two with 206.×.×.x are chat server and normal game server. The one with 64.×.×.x is the authentication server.
This might be semantics, but isn’t interaction defined by going both directions?
You are perfectly correct. So it’s actually not an interaction.
As far as I remember, the DPS meter simply reads values from the memory. Grey area, since ANet hasn’t said anything specific about memory reading.
Which means it interacts with the Software. But on the same hand a lot of stuff interacts with it and somehow we are still playing (antivirs, vpns, sweetfx/gemfx, etc). To detect that one is reading the memory anet would have to change few things in how the game interacts with the system and I’m pretty sure they cannot or will not.
Also looks like they might have listened to all the defiant complaints in that thread and opted for a dumbed down version which locks out the option to coordinate CC to strip stacks for chained stuns.
I still maintain that defiant is fine. They just need to teach players to use it properly. If this is an open world only version of defiant then im fine with the change. Because yeah its terrible implementation when it scales up to 50 stacks on open world stuff.
Maybe this bar goes down faster than the current implementation but refreshes over time? So coordinating CCs is more important?
Did you really link me a vid of 5 warriors, literally the class with the best cleave ingame outside staff ele, as proof the fight can be perfectly done without a guardian?
Because I’d like to see a class that doesn’t have 18k baseline hp and the most OP heal in the game. With endure pain and a banner elite.
I mean, please. Show me the video with 5 rangers doing that crap, or 5 eles for that matter without conjured frostbow cheese. Hell, I’ll take the 5 necros.
And then let’s compare that experience in a public group versus the group that has the heavies in them.
Isn’t engie heal the most OP? Highest heal per second if I recall correctly.
Can confirm, this is true for the last week.
This is like the highest achievement a developer can do on this forum. Props to you!
Its a nice vid and it was before spider queen was remade to spit on floor even if you pulled her in corner wouldent work now i guess.
Not really.
It’s a forum so you should expect some discussion, even a heated one. On the topic, tanks/healers will not find any room like ever because that’s a design. There’s no aggro management technique and there are no targeted heals. Those two facts, by design, makes those two roles pretty much ineffective.
The only way you can roleplay tanks/healers is if you combine them in one build.
I can think of bigger problems!
- Boring, bad game mode!
- 6 months between patches!
- No pause feature!
- Trying to be esports when not esports!
- No real leaderboards!
- Tiny population!
- Bad matchmaking!
- No competitive scene at all!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Add to it:
- Trolls leaving skyhammer!
You mean you bugged and glitched your way up to 80. As there was no proper way to go that high. Everybody who went to 80 knew they were doing something that worked only due to an oversight by devs. But of course you can call it “skill”.
I feel your pain. Do you realise there was absolutely no additional reward for doing so? The rewards were identical to those at lower scales and the content wasn’t easier at all. It was just a test of one’s skills. But no, they glitched, abused and should be banned for doing so. The best community in all mmos under the scope.
That’s strange, since I believe champ bags received from pvp reward tracks stack with those got from pve. Meaning they are virtually identical and there should be no difference.
Lol ^ First off champ boxes don’t give minimum rares…………..Secondly, you are misunderstanding the drop rate of rares. Rares have a 1% chance to drop as loot. Increase that by the 100% buff and you now have a 2% chance to drop one. You have 117% MF normally then your chance to get a rare was at 217% higher than the normal drop rate, which comes out to 3.17% chance for a rare out of the bags. You are complaining because you didn’t get anything from barely over a 3% chance? 3% dude….that is not very much chance at all. It is ALWAYS just luck, rares or exotics etc etc.
MF doesn’t work like that.
Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.
Is that official?
Izzy said on forums in the past that MF doesn’t work with containers, chests, etc. It does work though with loot bags in pvp. However, loot bags != champ bags.
Magic find doesn’t work on champion boxes.
The same thing was shoved in pvp-ers faces when living story season 1 was being released. If they could endure, so can you.

Because it’s a population issue mostly. You wait 2-3 minutes in queue on average not because the algorithm to find you a decent game is so sophisticated but because there are significantly less players than in games like LoL.
Arena ques would actually be incredibly fast, which is another huge plus. Conquest ques arent strictly a population issue. In addition to population, there is a matchmaking factor which makes it hard to solidify not only any group, but a group of 10 people versus say 4 in a 2v2. So arenas take fewer people and have less restriction barriers. You already can see it in WoW. BGs can have 4-6 min ques, arena skirmishes can take like 30 sec to 1.5 min.
When I was playing LoL, the queue times were like 5-20 seconds and it wasn’t an arena. Hmm…
gw1 RA queues were about 30 secs… back in my day… GET OFF MY lawn u kids
Yes, with absolutely no matchmaking. It was a FIFO queue until they made few changes to discourage syncing.
I thought SXtronghold is going to be guild only? no?
Can you imagine queue times if stronghold is for guild teams only? Especially when you need more than 5 people to form up.
Ranked pvp is getting really ridiculously stupid at this point. 5 man premades against 5 man pugs is the biggest bullkitten I have ever seen since the new system was implemented. You could at least put a forfeit option if you are going to allow such unfair matches to occur.
It is bad enough half the time you get people on your ranked team that still don’t know how to play the kitten game.
Those premades have inflated mmr meaning you’re playing against less skilled people. They have coordination, you should be simply better. Unless you are in the upper tiers of mmr you will face full premades vs all solos rather rarely. Plus, the work on that is still in progress.
We also allow it because a lot of the time it doesn’t matter, especially now that we inflate party MMR by the number of members to compensate for the advantage.
Math: party.rating += party.rating * config.party.inflation * pow(party.size – 1, config.party.curve)
5 players with a mean of 1500 becomes 1845 with inflation at 5% and the curve set to 1.1.
There is still that occasional match though that gets totally ruined by the fail-safes. I’m not certain waiting longer for those players would improve quality for them or just reduce the number of games they get to play.
Edit: Correcting algorithm to use party.size – 1, which matches the LIVE code.
Edit 2: Fixed another issue in the way the algorithm was presented. Thanks, rotten.9753.
You can use some vpn services to avoid being routed through telia network. But it might cost some $$$.

I’m not sure I understand this correctly. Does it go like that:
rating = rating * inflation * (party_size-1)^curve = 1500 * 0.05 * 4^1.1 = 344
Shouldn’t it be:
party.rating += party.rating * config.party.inflation * pow(party.size – 1, config.party.curve)
This would give 1844 party rating.
Heh, in the old days people were farming hotjoins 24/7 to get higher ranks because it was the fastest method. I’m not really sure which period of time you are describing here. Also, rosy retrospection.
Perhaps it’s an issue with some degenerated nodes, tunneling your connections instead of relying on isp’s routing solves the issue of lags for me.
Lags were occuring earlier than the balance patch but seemingly less people were affected.
hahahahah does anyone else feel like there are only trolls on the forum? People complaining non-stop about the solo que thing but werent any good and dont really have a right to complain in the first place.
It does appear that way but at the same time this thread fills with evidence it’s sometimes otherwise.
Hotjoins nowdays are just dailies and people farming newbs who don’t realize people can farm them in PvP.
It isn’t like the old days where hotjoins were fun and good matches.
Best bet is to just do unranked and ranked.
Or learn about farming newbs in hotjoins and farm newbs too!
I can’t recall that. Do you perhaps post from another universe?
Oooh, he burned you!
Should counter him saying his system is faulty and needs a player rated system instead because his system isn’t good at determining who is good and who is bad.
Cuz you don’t wanna be on the same level as the guys that lose to Svanir. I mean you can beat Svanir 1v1 right?? Or you one of those team only comps, and don’t fight Svanir or anything alone?
Need more details!
Yes, he burnt him. Which by your logic means he’s at the level of top players (Denshee, Tage, etc) and those players lose to Svanir as well. Well, I’ll leave you to contemplate on it.
Pure DMs lack bigplays and you can’t have esport without those.
and grouch* since he got his special spot / leftover competitive player
sry, I said something I wasn’t supposed to.
At this point it means, pvp devs that never played gw1 (since all gw1 pvp devs left from gw2, besides gaile? (pvp wise) for communications or some other menial job in anet). What you should take into account is that the main head for the semi-newly assigned gw2 pvp-dev (who never played gvg or knows how to play it in) gw1 pvp dev and quit) is that he never played gw1 pvp! Let that sink in.
might as well add an edit
the new head for gw2 pvp never even competitively played gw1 pvp which automatically makes his skill inferior
/sarcasm
What about Izzy?
On a more serious note, people that developed original gvg would have to work at Anet for more than 10 years now, average time at one job is much lower than that.
Dev is a broad term, it includes designers, programmers, testers, etc.
lol
Justin is a stats guy not a dev.
What part of “PvP Server Programmer” says something about stats?

Did people really expect to learn anything pve related on pvp show? I’m dumbfounded.
I will put this in a nice and simple way
PVE = ZERK GEAR
PVP / WVW = BUILD DIVERSITY
ok understand now ???
It’s more like this:
PvE = zerk gear
PvP = celestial gear
WvW = who cares, it’s ZvZ
I’m curious if everyone is expecting a similiar matchmaking as we have currently, namely that if you queue with e.g. 2 people the system will find you the rest of the team. But even if you don’t need a full premade, queue times will still be much longer than they are now currently in 5v5.
Defensive stats are not useless, they are just not needed for experienced people.
Out of all of the ascended items, armour is the most costly part and is the least needed except for fractals 50 which aren’t exactly rewarding enough to have something to complain about. The priority should be to get weapons since they bring the highest improvement and trinkets which are very easy to get.
Also, let’s not forget that in all the content that’s not level 80, your ascended gear is being downscaled to exotic. So for all those hard bosses like teq or wurm, there is virtually no difference if you are running around with exotic or ascended gear.
To reiterate, the only part of ascended gear that could be considered really grindy is an ascended armour but it’s silly to consider it obligatory anywhere except FotM scale 50. The stats gain is miniscule at best (something around 14 more major stat and 11 more minor stats) and its costs can go as high as 500g.
In ‘rewarding’ i meant for the player. there is no reason to change your build and armor stats to something other than zerk (mostly in pve). Its just too good on anything like world events, dungeons, it can solo bosses…
Ill give you an example:
My main character is a thief, and thieves have a bunch of fun skills like traps, caltrops, venoms and elit skills like dagger storm.
But why would I use them?! They arent that effective in pve, they are too weak.
You better put zerk armor and all your signets and just burst damage by spamming backstab.
Even short bow is used only because of its 5th skill for mobility and thats it.
If you like this style, be my guest. But I think arenanet need to make other builds more liked and wanted.
Its like they are saying ‘We gave you a lot of skills but only 2 are actually good. The rest is just foe the show’.
Those thieves skills aren’t being used in pvp as well so I don’t really get your point. Those skills are simply weak except for a few specialized cases (e.g. shadow trap).
Food and utility buffs that EVERYONE has access to, but lets not change the topic eh
I assume that food had to be bought for gold, am I right?
God, i wish everyone (including me) could perfectly dodge every “OBVIOUS” tell. Things would be so smooth.
That’s why anet graced us with a defensive gear.
the thing with “zerker meta” (and rampager/sinister/assassin or any stat combo that doesn’t involve defense) is an AI issue. see, the AI is not aggressive enough. and i don’t mean it needs to hit harder, it needs to hit faster.
on sPvP and WvW, more defensive stats and support roles are important because there’s only so much you can dodge, but on PvE, since it takes forever for enemies to actually hit you, it’s easier to just kill them before they hit you enough, and worse, stack in a corner so that if someone gets downed, the other 4 can just pick the downed back up with less effort than it would take to keep them from going down, and at no DPS loss in the grand scheme of things.
i’m not about to derail this thread saying what i think should be made to change that situation, but the problem is at least 50% the AI being too easy on players (another large chunk being encounter design that allows corner stacking)
Don’t you need defensive stats in pvp because you have to fight on nodes? We have builds like shatter mesmer, all kinds of thieves, offguards and many others that are zerker enough?
Also, corner stacking is the echo of the past.
