While interesting idea it would make too big mess out of meta events in areas and could cause too much confusion.
We never really interacted with her. Most of her lines were with Majory.
You could go and talk to her some more in the begging of first episode. It’s not enough but made me like her a bit. I would like her to stick around.
Yes, but it were Asuran and Sylvari specialist that uncovered all necessary rituals. Why ask human historian, if you have Asuran Plot Device that can summon ghost to recreate whole event. I don’t recall any important human character in Orr. Charr, Sylvari, Asura – yes. Human and Norn – not so much.
Sry for rant.
So pretty much a female character who pretty much had has no story development is killed for as a plot device in this LS. She is involved in only one mission, and then is sent to her death off screen in the next mission. Pretty much this character was created to die for the A-team to feel emotion, but for me I feel nothing because she has as much development as the thousands of npcs I kill everyday. This is unlike the mentor you get in your PS who you actually develop a relationship with, and then dies in a heroic way. Personally I do find this type of story extremely lazy and somewhat offensive.
All thing considered it’s hard not to kill female, if most of primary and secondary characters are female. Could her death be treated better? Maybe. Could she got better developement? Gods in Mist, yes.But she still got better sendoff than 80% of now-dead character of both sexes. And if she was more developed I think i would cause even bigger uproar.
I may repeat somebody but she wasn’t only victim and her death was not a just a device to move plot forward(if anything it made us stop to understand terror of Elder Dragons). It doesn’t count as “Women in Refrigerator”. Anet goes out of it’s way, not to introduce such tropes.
Also I really liked Belinda and was genuinely sad after her death.

Pale Tree as shady anti hero looking for gain of power in wake of Dragons death? Cheesy as heck and 100% improbable, but count me in
I hope for more events in Dry Top, after story moves somewhere else (that mean next year). Now if we had Meta Event leading to Giant on top of Meta Event with Zephyryts it would be chaotic mess.
I prefer theory that sphere that charged/was pulled represented death of Zaithan. Heck, we killed Elder Dragon, something that never happened before, it must have some significance.
I still don’t understand why we see Pale Tree in the begging. We know that there are more than one Sylvari breading Trees, so what is so special in Pale One. Maybe it’s coincidence and tree like shape represents something else
It would be interesting to have plotline with Seraph/soldier from Divinitys Reach trying attack friendly centaur thinking that they are Modnir. Maybe at last some interesting tensions?
As stated previously I also don’t like that one specific group has answers to everything. Players/character in game could at least entertain idea that Asura or other race in spotlight may be mistaken in their believes, like it was shown with Humans or Chars.
But for some reason it was totally okay that the Humans were 100% correct about everything in GW1?
Actually humans and Player Character was wrong plenty of time. Over course of GW:Prophecies we were actively helping bad guy achieve his goal for a good part of a game. Not to mention whole nations(and player character, at least in the begging) being swayed by not so well meaning individuals.
Also my take on Asurans is simmilar to Flat Earth Atheists or Nay-Theist

The Eternal Alchemy is the same as our Scientists who believe that there is a possibility that god exists.
If we were talking about Charrs science and philosophy I would agree. Charrs are race using thing closest to science in our understanding of the word.
Also Eternal Alchemy isn’t science. Science (or Magitech to some extant) is Science. To quote after wiki “The Eternal Alchemy is the ideology of the Asura”.

For example I like relationship between Human and Norn mythology. Norns see Six Gods as Spirits of specific actions.

Because things from GW1, now shown as mere myths, got better background and reasons behind them than many information taken as certainty only because who gave them (usually asura or sylvari).
Back to Eternal Alchemy, basically it says that everything is connected. World is cosmically complex machine and Gods/Spirits/Elder Dragons are just gears in it’s mechanism. All good but how we are certain it have any truth in itself outside of Asuran statement? Much less than we had while human religion was presented in GW1. I don’t say Eternal Alchemy is wrong. I say we got better proofs for thing that is now considered mostly superstitions.
tl:dr
I think they skimmed through. If they played more attentively they wouldn’t use nearly same graphic for Realm of Torment and “Pale Tree + six Elder Dragons”/“Eternal alchemy”.
Yeah, but we actually met the Gods.
I understand that for simplicity reasons, impact of human Gods’ lore was minimized. I’m slightly annoyed about fact that if Asura says something it’s treated as 100% truth by everybody in the game, whatever it’s astronomy or Human religion. I don’t like inclusion of other races’ viewpoint by overcompensating – making them nearly always right(asura) and to smaller degree Sylvari as Chosen Ones of Tyria.
I have got one problem with current story, but first some background.
250 we were told information, facts even, about creation of world, appearance of humans and creation of magic and Bloodstones by Six True Gods etc. Due to changing view of game to less human-centric many of those “facts” were named myths, superstitions.
Now we are led to belief that philosophy created by Asurans, Eternal Alchemy is somehow 100% accurate. It is all despite the fact that over course of GW1 many now-myths got much better reasons than Eternal Alchemy proven mostly by Asurans’ technobabble.
Maybe Eternal Alchemy will be proven as misguided as human look on world, I hope so. It’s irritating that Asurans are used as Deus ex Machina even when it comes to theology/cosmology of Tyria.
It wasn’t Ommad Machine. It was Scarlet persona crack house
Why actually Eternal Alchemy? It’s a philosophy/belief system of only one race. Six Gods got sidelined to make GW2 less human-centric, explaining that most of what we know about Gods were superstitions and wishful thinking. Now we are told that everything Asura says is true? I don’t buy it. It could be fluctuations of Mists, map of Realm of Torment, anything.
I’m going with theory that they saw something and because of lack of knowledge they mistook it for Eternal Alchemy.
I actually liked her, so I’m a bit sad. Although Marjory reaction was wooden at best(Kas sounded 200% more realistic).
I hope they add some after LS.
I have this amazing and unique idea to spice up the game a little(…) make it so characters can have two professions!
I sincerely thank you for that. I had a good laugh
I’m not sure if you are serious or not, but such “amazing and unique” mechanic was already used in GW1
I don’t think so. More and more gadgets are steampunk themed, which in my opinion, suits Engineers.
O Gods Yes! There were some variations in emots in GW1. One kind of alcohol(don’t remember name) made you shout like a pirate
There is theory that Scarlet original toxin repels Mordy vines. There is no sign of them near wreckage of Tower of Nightmares. It might be what shielded Pale Tree.
To tell you the truth I was sure, that was stated on wiki but now I looked for it and there is no such mention. Maybe I was wrong.
Abbadon started as God of Truth as well. As I told, it’s nearly impossible, but I like the idea.
All hail our new cute Overlord – Empress Taimi.
Maybe it’s not connected to anything already shown, but I hope that it might be Kormir going nuts and possessing Sylvari to fight Dragons. She is Goddess of Truth and knowledge is not too far from that department. Additionally previous keeper of that mantle also went crazy(Abbadon). It don’t have sense to posses Sylvari instead of Humans but it’s just my 5 cents into discussion.
Elder Dragon would win because they can siphon/consume magic and gods are made of magic. If we forget about that ability Six Gods>Elder Dragons.
6 gods are also VERY easily corrupted like any other human in tyria, oops sorry grenth you’re now a icebrood win
Do not think so. There is no instance that Gods were corrupted. Spirits of the Wild were destroyed/consumed on a spot not converted. Priests? Not a problem, they were/are mere mortals. Gods, not so much.
Lets just connect all the issues. The reason there was a mix-up in the recorded dates of the sylvari generations is the adapting of the calendar to the new asuran way. A mistake.
The reason there was a need for the calendar change is that the shift in magic (Bloodstones, dragon awakenings, great cataclysmic events) have somehow effected the planet’s rotation, that also effected the climates of certain areas.Basicly it comes down to “Maaaagggiiiicc!!” with just enough sense to make it believable.
Thing is, your explanation “because Magic” makes more sense than official “for 250+ years scholars from all civilizations didn’t caught up with error in calendar”.
About Sylvari birthdate, it would be nice to have that information. How much time passed between First and Secondborn emergence is not pivotal plot-point so I don’t think it should be shrouded in secrets.
Are you sure?
Ooooooo now we are taking

Thank you so much Angel for response.
About calendar I must admit I don’t see a point of change. In GW1, Tyrian holidays were aligning with our and nobody had any problem with that. If team feel need to be in sync with real world time, Tyrian year should have 365*(number of ingame days per real day), but that would be ridiculous.
In my head-cannon 5 bonus days are caused by Elder Dragon from space that woke up on Sun :P

…..new Star Wars EU and lack of validity of old EU is still painful experience. If that’s what you think is happening, your post wasn’t reassuring at all.
In light of those newly revealed ideas what is status of Short Stories? They were introduced as additional information to LS1, purely canonical in time of their release.
One question, was that mentioned in-game when Firstborn emerged? Maybe they just move timeline few years back?
I just hoped that if developer in charge of lore says something in interview, he/she knows what he/she is talking about. It’s not like they talk about whatever they want, they must clear that with team, whatever those are things that they can reveal. If they intend to change them better not to say them. If they already did, they should try work around it. Blatant contradiction is lazy.
OP might blow thing out of proportions, but not so much. Up to this point we were sure that what devs say in interviews is true. Now it’s said that all of it may or may not be wrong. Clarification what is canon and what was thrown out would be much appreciated in this point.

Note: this is not my picture but redditor/u/samuirai’s
Mordremoth definately has a thing for waypoints.
Where is that picture taken?
Anyway how many vines emerging near waypoints are accounted for so far?
-Fort Salma waypoint,
-Falcon Waypoint,
-a few waypoints in Brisbane Wildlands (but that was to be expected).
I actually had good time. Not great, as in Flame and Frost Boss battle, but it was still fine. Not too challenging, one or two new mechanics.
@Inculpatus cedo
I mean mechanic-wise. If LS should be repeatable than it must not require zerg of players to achieve it. I mentioned Marionette, because it was best usage of masses of players I ever witness in GW2.
As much as I loved newest chapter of LS I will miss such epic encounters as Marionette. Story wise it’s superb but there is not much of “living, breathing world” left in LS.
I had 150 of them. Received 5 geodes and lock-pick. I got it fairly well.
If Kasemer’s power goes from that thorn prick……Darth Kasemer?
Apart from casting light on that lie-while-dying scene there was nothing interesting pointed out. Most of time they were patting themselves on the back, talking how awesome they were. It got boring after first episode. Hopefully in next episode they will be allowed to tell more and/or Q&A from MMO.net give new spin to whole thing.
I really don’t get why you are making such a big fuss about this. Nemesis was wrong, is wrong and will continue to be wrong in his methods and results. He rolled a 3 sided die, called it, and got it right. Lucky guess does not mean accurate math.
I also don’t get why you are making such fuss. I agree that Nemesis didn’t use best possible Warior build. I’m also pretty sure if I ask 3 warriors what is the best build, I’ll get 3 different answers.
Execution of experiment was clunky but it was field testing. Maybe not as clean as theocrafting, but with fair approximation it did it’s job.
During first “Points of Interest” podcast it was deliberately stated that there were tones of homages and lore pieces connected to GW1. I think it’s entirely possible that our theories got grain of truth in them. Only thing that bothers me is certainty of biconic characters, that those are lay lines nothing more.
This got me super excited,
Look at the pictures, left is a sketch found in Scarlet’s Dry Top lab and right is a depiction of the realm of torment from guild wars 1.
The vines we see in Dry Top are also something that happens when the veil between the 2 worlds weakens.
Are you as excited as I am ?
Good Gods I didn’t saw that. I so hope that you are right. Don’t think whatever it would make sense considering nearly everything in Realm of Torment being made more or less of magic and Dragons consuming magic, but idea gets me very excited
Maybe as players we would be forced to chose a lesser of two evils, maybe even help one of Elder dragons vs Menzis or vice versa?
Mass wild guessing mode on
For me best “Living Story” story (sic!) so far. I was blown away when compared to previous installments. I even didn’t mind that we will be dealing with Scarlet's past....again. Although rewards were minimal. No bugs for me.
Agreed 100%
Story wise it’s best part of LS so far. Rewards were a bit disappointing but apart from that I had a blast
I’m already a bit bummed down. More Scarlet’s backstory? Maybe if they put emphasis on her inner fight with Morthermoth/entity that was invading her mind. I’m still cautious about seeing more of her road to Mary Sue’ism.
If they leave her alone and concentrate about her seconds in command and their reasons of allying with clearly psychotic character, different than “for the Evulz”, I’m ready to enjoy this
Finger crossed and twitching with anticipation anyway
