It’s also a problem of logic in the story, a bit like when you kill a dragon and you got a stupid helm. Like someone would say “good job saving the world, here, take this cupcake and this beautiful helm”.
I mean, just imagine a distinctive, beautiful (aka no flames and spikes everywhere) reward. Or even just a symbolic reward.
Meanwhile, farming again and again the same boss is much more rewarded.
you keep bring up money.
and want to be guaranteed a valuable/unique reward for doing something easy.
you can’t have both.
You can have both, at least to an irrational person and this board seems to be jammed packed with them, so don’t bother.

Wasn’kitten“officially dead” a year ago?
Well, whenever someone decides to quit, that’s when they tend to think of it as officially dead.
(since it is dead to them from that point on)Nice. Another oh-so-necessary attention-hungry thread.
If you can’t provide any useful criticism but infantile whining, just go. Nobody cares.??
So keep doing what people have been doing since alpha?Posts like these, (within GW2) big name players who are leaving GW2 probably are causing more good than all the hundreds of pages of beautifully written ‘useful criticism’ already buried in these forums.
GW2 is on it’s last leg, something crazy has to happen or the game just isn’t going to make it past the release of all the other MMOs in a few months. And so far, sorry to break it to you, but even the best of those mounds of ‘useful criticism’, no matter how well written/thought-out has been ignored by Anet
Anet’s developement mindset needs a kick in the pants.
What you want won’t do that.
What he did has a small, small, small shot at it.
You start out by saying the most resonable that that has ever left your keyboard since ever then as usual drove the point do the ground with your usual hyperbole.
PvP isn’t going to die because the hardcore left, generally most of the people that play any PvP game are not even hardcore.

Even if wildstar was released in it’s current state and never got a update, it has far more pvp content than gw2 and a better proffession balance.
I remember this same line before guild wars 2 was released. I wonder how true that would be in the long run.
Trust me. Lvl 50 in current WS beta and 2k+ hours in gw2. WS has much more content

Rank has a lot of value. It provides you with cool finishers that could be shown in all aspects of the game. I think that hotjoin and custom arenas should not give any rank points at all.
OR we could change the name from rank to levels, so that it doesn’t give players a false impression of skill level and make rank equal to your ability. If they want to go down the wrote you are suggesting.

Rank has no real value or meaning. The fact that you seem to think it does says more about you than it does about them. I suspect the reason you seem to think it does it due to teh fact that the definition of rank isn’t being applied properly in guild wars 2.
They should just change it to level and then make rank mean your standing relative to someone else.
Rank surely means something. All things being equal, knowing nothing other than the rank, I would always choose an r50 over an r30. And I’m sure it’ll be the right choice the overwhelming majority of the time.
In an ideal world aka all things being equal, yes, choosing a r50 is a no brainer. However, in the real world that is generally not the case, based entirely on my limited anecdotal experience a lot (not the majority like 25%) of high ranks tend to be farmers.

Tormented weapons should have been exclusive to players with accounts in GW1, and who had Tormented weapons in their HoM. I don’t agree with them being shared with everyone.
Why should they have been exclusive to guild wars 1 players? The existence of tormented weapons doesn’t affect the weapons you currently have in gw1. Also where was this argument with respect to destroyer weapon?
Honestly, I hope anet adds more gw1 weapons and armor, especially the Obsidian armor.
also it if wasn’t apparent by now, I doubt the majority of gw2 players are guild wars 1 vets. A lot of them probably quit after the ascended gear thing, a 1.5 years ago.

GG anet…you just lose 1 more gw1 veteran left in this sad game. your gem shop looks like it’s the end game…
I can’t believe it took you this long to figure out this isn’t gw1.
So you being a guild wars 1 vet means absolutely thing. Anet has learned by now that guild wars 1 vets will cry about anything, so I doubt they really care that much at this stage.
I get that people like them for nostalgia purposes…. But…. why?
Most are just…. Bleh. I don’t know. I guess it’s just my personal opinion… This set of weapons will be as ignored as sclerite to me.
However, the people who I remember asking for them (because they have been asked for for probably over a year) now you can have them. Congrats!
I personally want the Mesmer mist weapons in new colors. Please?
Nostaglia is a powerful drug. I saw the weapons and they look hideous, but apparently it is a big deal.
You got players crying out average looking weapons from a previous game that has no relation to the current game except for lore.

Anet should make new modes, but I hope they are not stupid enough to think making deathmatch is a good idea.
A lot of people are crying for it, but once they make it they legitimize it and the same people that were kittening about it about no deathmatch will turn around and whine how it is terrible and it will be terrible.
A game mode where the even terrible balance is more apparent.
So they finally would be forced to balance mesmer for smth else beside portal bot? Mby would even fix aoe meta? Sounds like a good idea to me.
If they haven’t been bother to do so now, what means you think they will suddenly do it because of deathmatch?
bringing in deathmatch will involve having to redesign skills and the way stats operate, I don’t see Anet having the balls to admit they messed up with the way conditions were set up and or having to redesign the whole classes.

Diamond skin is a terrible trait. But Diamond skin isn’t the reason why you probably lost to an elementalist. This screams like a learn to play issue.
Getting the ele down to 90% is easier than blinking.
Dude it definitely is not. I play a necro too, and DS eles aren’t much of a problem for me because I use carrion gear and flesh golem. But for a necro using rabid and plague, DS is pretty much a hard counter. I know I’m not nearly as good as the OP, cause I fought him about 12 hours ago (god knows why since I’m nowhere near him in the rankings!) and his team wiped the floor with us, so I can tell you firsthand it’s not a l2p or skill issue.
I absolutely agree that eles need some serious loving, but a blunt hard counter tool like DS is not the way to do it – it’s crap balancing (makes them invulnerable to a small subset of builds and just as easy to kill for everyone else), and terrible game design.
DS is a hard counter for 1v1 fights but in a group fight where guild wars 2 was supposedly designed around, it goes down extremely fast. The trait is so worthless due to sacrifice that ele have to make that effective very few of the few that are stupid enough to PvP using the elementalist use it.
I might not like it DS, but given the how worthlessly cheap conditions are I think all classes should get a skill like DS and or conditions be redesign. The former is easier for Anet. DS is as far as conditions are in this game.

I would pity anybody that is still playing guild wars 2 in 10 years. In this day and age MMORPG should not last more than 5 years at most. Personally due to some design decisions I think Anet should start working on a new game (not guild wars 3) in the next few years.
You paid for it, you’re holding it, but it will only mature in 10 years.
Potential yields are very high, but the chance you get your investment back is miniscule.Truth be told.
There’s 1 difference:
Greece probably go under, thanks to support by the EU.
GW2 probably will.
I don’t see the difference between those 2 statements.

Only team with 5 skilled players quit. Gl gw2 lol
snip
Anet has wisely, IMO, decided to focus on bring in more PvEers to PvP which is the only way for spvp to grow at this stage. personally, the more top players that go the way of the dodo bird the better, I don’t know why, but I feel like it would be better.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Any decent ele can heal or pop into water and get that 2k right back. Once he’s back over 90% he becomes immune again. So you really need to do a lot more than 2k damage to keep the conditions sticking.
True, but at least the necromancer needs to do more work than simply mindlessly spam easy conditions to win.

In GW1 it takes me 2 minutes to switch my build.
In GW2 it takes me 3 months to switch my build (from one ascended gear to another set). The best in-a-nutshell argument to date.
/applauds
This is the best in a nutshell argument to date, if you ignore the simple fact that guild wars 1 was not an MMORPG but a CORPG then you realize most comparisons between guild wars 1 and 2 in terms of progression are meaningless. A lot of fanboys are going to tell you stuff, but the only relationship between gw1 and 2 is the lore and it seems Anet was not interested in making an upgrade version of gw1.
With that said, it is apparent that guild wars 2 has vertical progression and as long as it says non-mandatory, I don’t see a problem with it. A lot of the forums warriors are going to argue otherwise but they can always go play that nonexistent MMORPG without vertical progression. Also if they felt so strongly about progression, they would probably still be playing guild wars 1, just like they are still people playing games release years before gw1.
Now if you are talking about guild wars 2 needing things like Templates and improved mechanics, then we can all agree gw2 is lacking.

Going to agree about that. Last 2 weeks or so I’ve noticed q times are horrid, matchmaking is kitten (my last round was 500-10 other team had a rank 13 10 and a 5…) and people are just kittened. I don’t remember the last foefire round where people defended mid after it was capped. I keep getting free full caps on mid idk why…
Sigh
It’s a sign of how few people are playing.

It’s always funny when people show up with messages like the OP. I think they work for ANET but are using a different account. Any regular person isn’t going to care about the forums. There is always going to be a mix or good, bad, and indifferent. Get used to it.
You don’t have to work for Anet to ask people not to behave like children on a temper tantrum.
The irony of acting up like a child on a temper tantrum is that the people that you want information from avoid engaging the players because they know they would be insulted and the end result being 10 thread with GG, esportz, and blah blah.

Diamond-Skin is a hard-counter and game-breaking, doesn’t matter if it’s a l2p issue or not (which is here definitely NOT the case, as ventari is one of the best necros, when not the best nowadays)
OH thank you for stating the obvious.
Diamond skin is a terrible trait
I guess that statement just flew right by your did it? Also I don’t really care who he is. if he couldn’t hurt the ele, it probably mean he was playing one of those cheap condition spam builds, so essentially OP is mad that his cheap tactics did not beat a cheap trait.

We can all agree in an ideal world every game would be balance with 1v1, but I think that is beyond the abilities of this game.
The way they designed certain mechanics makes it nearly impossible to do a 1v1 balance. They will have to gut out the game and completely redesign certain aspects like conditions damage, traits and certains skills and I don’t see Anet dedicating the resource to fix that. Maybe in guilds wars 3 aka Tyria they will finally realize that conditions should not be a main source of damage.
Yes, there are things like AoE that need to be taken in to account.
But the thing is the “we balance around team dynamics” approach NEVER works.
On the other hand I’ve played plenty of games where 1v1 balance is taken into account and that ended up with reasonable team balance as well.
The whole sentiment of “balance” is based on 1v1. The entire lens of how we perceive that is balanced and what is OP is based around duel situations. That’s just it. You can talk about balancing around teams all you like but at the end of the day it’s how well you fare in a duel that really dictates how you perceive balance.
I would love an example of an MMORPG that had good 1v1 balance because most MMORPG have always been designed with the premise of rock paper scissor.
Name one game where you have a hard-counter triage where you have practically no chance in winning if your class comes up against your counter-class?
Because I can name numerous ones that have reasonably balanced 1v1s.
- World of Warcraft
- The Elder Scrolls Online
- Warhammer Online (exception: Bright-Wizards)
- Guild Wars 2 (despite a terrible meta most classes have a reasonable shot at killing any other class).
- pretty much all FPS games.
- even TF2, despite its different classes, doesn’t have a true hard-counter dynamic.
RTS games are the only games I can think of that still hold on to a rock-paper-scissor concept. Aka. Colossi counter Zerglings, Zerglings counter Siege Tanks, Siege Tanks counter Colossi etc.
I don’t remember making a claim about anything. You made a claim about games with 1v1 balance, I simply asked for proof in the sphere of MMORPGs. Certain genres lend themselves extremely easy for 1v1 balance. What I want is an MMORPG example.
FPS games can easily have 1v1 because rarely do you need more than a few shots to kill.
I will tell you this, I hate how in the current system conditions are so destructive and there is no hope of winning against some condition spams. I am not saying gw2 is better this isn’t really a gw2 vs other games. I just want is an MMORPG example of this 1v1 you seem to be preaching about.
My point is you can’t apply 1v1 concept from other genres to MMORPG, the way those other genres work are entirely different from the way fps for example work.
TESO hasn’t been released yet. It takes time for players to understand how the underling mechanics works, so you really can’t used it as an example. It is similar to the illusion that gw2 had a great meta at beta and initially at release which is not true.
WOW: really?

I like this question. As you said, our focus right now is to better integrate sPvP with the rest of the game. This will hopefully do one major thing: Bring more people into sPvP that are already playing Gw2. This will mean more competition, and better matchmaking. The new ladders (which I hope you’re giving feedback for in the CDI thread) should be a good way to gain prestige for being the best.
Apart from competition and prestige, what kind of things are most attractive to the high-level players? Personally I’m not hyper competitive and play all parts of the game, so the rewards overhaul will be amazing for me :P
Evan,
PvPers DON’T WANT more PvErs into PvP.
A good PvP game will attract PvPers, or rather people interested in playing the game in order to win, instead of bringing people who are there simply for the achievement points.
PvP right now needs a serious marketing push with rewards based on ladder position, weekly/monthly automated tournaments with real money involved ( even GEMS would be fine at start) and a huge, HUGE advertising in order to make people come back ( if there’s still a chance to do so).
I don’t want to sound rude, but PvE players majority of times are scrubs in PvP.
Same for WvW players.
We need PvPers, not scrubs.
Unfortunately, you don’t have a say in that matter. What you want is pointless.
People don’t suddenly become Pro Pvpers, at some point they were probably noobs and tried PvP .liked it enough to continue.
Considering they are more people pvping now that ever before, I really doubt Anet cares what the very small and insignificant number of PvP pros such as yourself think. The only thing that might suffer was the concept of esportz but that shipped has already sank faster than the titanic.
Personally, if this new focus on converting PvEers to PvP drives away certain elements, the game will become better.

this game is dead and a.net do not give a kitten about pvp players … deleted the response as usual when you do not like a comment, stop saying that you have not promised anything and that you are doing your best, you are just a company that has ruined a community around a game called Guild Wars 1 …. you are just kittens … for the rest I have already left the game after he had hoped so much in something that would start the pvp … kittens
Considering the game is making hundreds of millions of dollars, I really doubt “dead” is the proper adjective to describe gw2. Considering that they are more people doing PvP now than ever before, I really doubt “dead” is also appropiate for spvp.
The only dead thing was the idea that gw2 was going to be an “esport”, but since being an esport only affected the top end of the pvp spectrum, it didn’t really matter for the game proper. Also esport is a concept that the community creates not the developer, they can aim for it but ultimately the community has to the driving force.

I hope ANET realizes that the longer it takes for the feature patch, the higher the expectations become.
At this stage the only person to blame for having high expectations is the individual. It shouldn’t take more than a half and yearto finally realize the following “expect the worst and you will never be disappointed” especially with PvP.
Also expecations are high doesn’t seem to be benefit whatever Anet plans are.
You don’t understand how people think. It’s pretty basic. The longer the hype builds around something, the higher the expectation. That’s pretty standard in every part of life.
The flipside is that if the hype lasts too long, people will eventually stop to care and will just move onto a different game.
OMG what you said is totally new information.
It is a lose lose situation. Tell people information and they don’t deliver, they will still complain. They will always be disappointment no matter what Anet does, the ones that are probably going to be disappointed should know by now. The majority probably wont care or care enough to warrant visiting the forum to complain about it.
I see this argument a lot and generally find it to be untrue. Those who want to complain will do it whether changes to plans were made or not. The real reason this thread currently exists has been posted. If they provided us an update to the current plans, that would suffice for the vast majority. Instead, they’ve opted to leave us completely in the dark while removing pvp features. That is when people start pulling up the list of promised items and asking “umm, where exactly are we headed?” Players tend to be less polite when they do it, but that is ultimately what they are asking.
My point ultimately is that they have decided that telling us is not in their best interest YET. I can try and rationalize it for them all I want, but the fact they haven’t told us seem to show they weighed the options and the option of not telling us won.

It has always been that way and it will always be that way. The nature of the PvP forum has determine that even if things were a lot better, people will still whine way different from constructive criticism.
The worst thing about gw2 is that since there is no way to restrict forum access, people that have an axe to grind or quit the game years ago can come back for a few internet points.

@Sensotix.4106
We didn’t promise anything, we shared our high level road-map plans.
This is why we don’t like sharing dates. I know you’re waiting on things, and the wait is driving me crazy too, but saying we made promises when we clearly did not does not help get the content out sooner.
If you want greater transparency, like I do, then you must accept that dates, features, and plans are not a static promise. Things can happen to shift priorities, dates, or designs, causing things to changed, be pushed back, or accelerated.
Please stop.
/personal rant
Yes I will stop playing this game. Only solution with the “situation” we have concerning priorities and pvp.
You should go read the general forums, it is litter with “I quit” threads and “gw2 was not the messiah, Anet promised” threads or “guild wars 1” did it better. you can quit and honestly it is your right. There is never a reason to stick in a game you don’t feel like playing. Your post doesn’t really matter in the long run, unless a good majority of the .15% decide to quit.
People get sick of things all the time. Personally, I got sick of this game around november 15 took a 2 month break played B&S. I might take another break soon.

The majority probably wont care or care enough to warrant visiting the forum to complain about it.

teamQ total broken and anet know there would be no players – thats the only reason why make double reward
to make it fair they should give -10% rewards per player in your group cause they have it much easier to farm randoms with premade
or make teamQ 5 man grps only
as it is now its stupid and feels like a waste of time to play this game – i wanna play soloQ but always when i go in and win a game and get 500 rankpoints i know i would have double this when join teamQ -for the same thing
no point to play this game anymore
there are so many rank 50+ noobs now farmed in teamQ while solo players left behind
Another rational reason could be that forming a team is harder than QQing and letting the “matchmaker” do the job for you. If teamq did not offer any rewards they would be no reason to ever do teamQ since solo would probably be better and faster.
I know right, mind blown.

We could just revert untill the “build diversity” patch that happened about a year ago. Sure, bunker eles were fun and a little bit unkillable, and warriors were a joke…
But it’s much ebtter than eles become compeltely useless, warrior the best at everything with all the condition aoe spamming from some other professions.
The meta was fine before the whole “build diversity” patch… which actually reduced build diversity…
Build diversity existed simply due to ignorance, if you don’t know how things worked then anything worked. Almost everything was viable since nobody could prove something wasn’t viable. As player began getting more aware of the game mechanic diversity went away.

Maybe its a good idea they just shut it down so they don’t even need to dedicate that 1% of their resources for something that is more or less universally agreed to be a failure.
Agreed. They should just shut it down.
Or they could keep it for people that only PvP. Personally, the PvPers (ppl who only PvP) are around the better the game will be for others.

A lot of people are giving up on this game.
Transient PvE zerg content and gem store updates are not what I signed up for when I pre-ordered this game.
A lot of people? you mean the less than 5% that visit the game forums.
I mean that most be weird considering the game made 100 million dollar last year which is not bad considering it they did not rely on 60 dollar box and 1-2 million people to buy the game.

This poll is kinda pointless, because a new statistic just say that only .15% of the is responsible for 50% of all f2p game purchases, which is kinda scary. The point being the people on the forum imo are generally not the types that spend that much aka whales.

It is not that hard of a concept, if you don’t enjoy playing a video game quit it. I recently toook a 2 month break from gw2 to play blade and soul, had fun in blade and soul got sick of it and quit.
Unlike a job, you give yourself whatever reason you want to quit. YOu don’t need other players to tell you why you should stay, unless you are for some reason trying to validate your choice, which just makes it sad.

Did they say they have separate teams for PvE and PvP? Why should the PvP team have a break from PvE releases?
maybe Because PvP isn’t a big enough priority for them to separate the two? Why would they go through the trouble of separating the two just to appease a couple of forum PvPers?
Maybe they are doing what is best for them as a company?

They are not going to tell you the time of the patch if it doesn’t suit their marketing interest. Unlike an expansion where the company tells you in advance to get the player to prep their wallets this is a free patch and there is no reason to tell you in advance.

Hence my inquisitive post.. lol
I think 3 months is enough time to give more details.
I totally agree with you, I just wouldn’t be to optimistic for a response if I were you
3 months isn’t enough time for Anet to do anything yet – they are still in the brainstorming / preplanning stage. Keep your expectations low and you will find things work out more often!
Don’t listen to this guy he makes too much sense. In an idea world sPvP would be the center of the gw2verse, in this reality spvp is not. There is a saiyan, “expect the worst and you will never be disappointed”. If you are still here after all this time, you shouldn’t be have high expectations.
I will say that the new PvP matches were probably shown because pvper were complaining about the lack of long term plans and so Anet threw them a bone. Sadly, it seems by throwing the bone they increased the hunger.

Let me ask you this, how has being opened ever actually helped Anet? Whenever they were honest about stuff and it slipped they held by a subset of gamers for months and possibly years.
