Don’t forget Anet, designed it to have minimal choice. So that their job could be easier.
Seems like they had a easier time with GW1.
considering the game sort of spiraled out of control to the point where some classes operated on a significantly different level in PvE vs PvP, shows says otherwise.
what a useless point, of course there are large differences — they’re completely different environments
You are right, but it goes to show you how the balance so how out of whack that classes. Ultimately though PvE and PvP are part of the same game, you cannot ignore one because you prefer the other. The point being you might WANT PvP to be entirely different but ARenanet doesn’t agree with you and so you have to look at both things not only one side.

guild wars 1 pvp was “FUN” because they had more modes, so it could appeal to a wide variety another possibility is that because guild wars 1 had no forums the wasn’t a centalize location to complain about it. The other posibility was that guild wars 1 was the only MMO to have a decent SPvP at the TIME. So the standard have improve while Arenanet hasn’t improve with respect to PvP.
All i know is that over the years the balance of guild wars 1 went out of whack. It got progressively unbalance to the point where some classes operated on a different level in PvE than PvP, which is the reason arenanet is afraid of doing major splits.
lol… you do realize Anet tried to bring condi damage to HGH level, and now thats why we have this horrible meta ?
they need to:…
- Turn down all the damage
- Make single target damage worth it..
- Dont allow AI pets to play the game for players
and more importantly…- Fix Bugs on non-changing stuff such as runes, sigils!!!
They need to bring the damage of all class to the elementalist level. The amount of work elementalist have to do for decent amount damage is perfect for every class.
They have to make a way for things like illusions to be hard to summon because I see no reason to just press a button and have a Free damage A.I. Bring global CD for every skill except 1, reduces spam.
Make it harder to stack conditions other than pressing a button, same with AI. Give a requirement whether is by positioning or what not. All AOE should have a long animation time and not instant cast or tone down the damage.
Remove all percentage based sigils or tone them down.

Of course you don’t want a ranger, the most overnerfed class in the game..
how many nerfs has the ranger recieved?
YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND…. IM REALLLLLLY GOOD AT THIS GAME…
Why am I losing to these noobs?…
Did I they all get better? or did I get worse…(Next patch after they tone down spirit rangers)
Ya, right next to the elementalist.

There’s a reason why games these days don’t do standard subscription models anymore. It just doesn’t work.
When every other game in competition with you does a B2P/microtrans model, you simply can’t sell the game on a subs model.
Except they do standard subs still. The new titles coming out in the next year do often have subs, and the MMOs that have added f2p still have subs as an option because obviously there is still an interest in it.
Even NcSoft, you know the company that Anet belongs to, is using a sub model for their current blade and soul and their next game Wildstar again.
I would suggest doing a bit of research before making any outrageous comments like this. What you say is simply not true.
Actually, Arenanet making gw2 b2p is keeping with their believe they have HELD since BEFORE they go purchase by NCsoft. And it is pretty cool of Ncsoft to let ARenanet do what it wanted with that model.
Blade and soul is subscription only in Korea, in china is going f2p. Wildstar is an unproven title so you really cannot make a statement about it UNTIL after it releases. Even still then, you have to wait until 6 months before anything conclusive.

Immersion has no real standard it varies from player to player, so honestly there is no point in bothering with it.
Personally, I think Immersion is cheap cop-out for people not liking something but are afraid to say it.
As long as you look at a screen, input lot of buttons and type on a keyboard worrying about immersion in a game is dumb. And if you can let yourself believe that all those things are not immersion breaking, i am sure you can let yourself believe that all those things you complain about are not immersion.

With all this evidence it makes you wonder what is the thought process of keeping the elementalist a jack of all fails.
I feel like they have their hands tied because they are afraid what might happen if we become stronger.
Moving on, we have guild wars 1 skills they can borrow from to improve on the certain bad weapon skills and elites.

The groups I had the misfortune to be in only run to areas with champs. Seems some even have spotters scouting out each spawn, and reporting back. The LS events are an EPIC FAIL!!!
Good thing, every champ drops Exotics and rares, each and every time. Bad thing is they are exotic/rare packages, and the stuff inside is total crap.
Welcome to….
FARM WARS 2
Tyrian LootfestWhat you’re tired of jumping through hoops to gain any ground? You’d prefer to run in mindless groups and play follow the leader? And do it all for little or no reward, well Farm Wars 2 is your game.
facepalm
You knew what you were getting into. With no gear grind there is only a cosmetic grind, which is of course one of gold.
Actually I expected GW1’s philosophy to carry over. Oh wait.. it did GW1 was Greed wars. LOL WOW is laughing so hard, they were actually worried about this game being their undoing.
ACtually in guild wars 1 it was worst. People use to farm fall more the only difference is YOU were not aware of it. It is more apparent now due to the official forums and the open world, but it was far worst in guild wars 1. That is all. The whole structure was pretty much farm farm farm. At some point you could barely compete in the market.
tinted glasses people. With that said, Arenanet needs to fix the champs it cannot be spawning so many champs. Make more LT and bump up the rewards for success and punish failure.

Less champ spawning more LT spawning. Make is so that it is punshing for players to be in one area zerging whether by making the event take unsually long, more damage or abilities.

Significantly reduce the damage for power and making condition builds actually require something more than hitting a button. I think something like the ranger’s shortbow where you have to be position in the or hit your attack in a specific manner or location to trigger them but make the damage higher to compensate for the amount of work require.
ADDED:The point being that the main mode of damage would be power, but players can focus on critical or conditional damage.
Or introduce skills passive abilities that are only achievable for reaching a specific crit, power, vitality, toughness or condition damage threshold.
Introduce global cool downs to minimize the amount of button spamming certain classes have for all skills other than skill 1 for each weapon.
Increase animation time for all high power skills so that the oponent actually has enough time to interupt puts the skill on a 10 second CD.
2 monks, 1 derv, 1 ranger, 1 warrior, 1 nec, 1 mez, 1 ele. garbage in gw2 isn’t a meta but a cluster*#(@ of spam
Another useless suggestion from Nuka Cola. This is about using improving the current system not building a time machine.
game has no trinity for strategic spiking, everyone has access to spammish aoe, anet has no idea how to balance and you’re seriously even trying to find an idea to fix the current mess? After this crappy meta is gone, another will be born which is also all about spamming aoe/pets and yay WIN.
Guild wars 2 has A LOT of fundamental problems, we can all agree on that. We can also agree ARenanet never had any idea how to balance their games. Guild wars 1 certainly wasn’t balance and got progressively more unbalance as time went on.
so really, what was the point of your original comment? Bringing back those classes does absolutely nothing except feed off of your nostalgia. So short of building a time machine your suggestion is useless, they are not going to copy and paste guild wars 1 into 2.
point of my original post is, enjoy current mess cuz you aren’t getting anything much better and if it annoys you that much, go play another game that is balanced and has fun pvp. If spvp was 2v2 only then you wouldn’t be seeing the insane spam fest pvp brings to the table.
Ya, non of that really fixes the meta. IF you want 2v2 say, don’t come to a this thread and complain about a 2v2 even though it won’t really fix the issues with the current meta.

@silvermember.8941:
Errr wait? You played your Ele since 2005? Give me your Time Machine, man. It want it for other purposes then bragging about my skill raising with the amount of time lapsed …
Oh wait? You ’re talking about GW1? Good job, comparing an Apple to an Egg. No offense but your so unfriendly right now you deserved that comment.
Also that sentence makes me want to smack your virtual face (your Eles face, that is):
As long as it is in the game and not an exploit it’s fair game.
That sentence is part of reason this and many other game stumbles. And i just hope you fall to that truth even ONCE and get punished by AreaNet for it. So you’re saying all those people that Exploit-Farmed in Gendaran at Headstart, or the People abusing the Mystic Forge to generate a High amount of Precursors (which still dominate the high price of the market up to now, as they never were removed as they couldn’t be really distinguished) is entire valid and fair for everyone? KITTEN YOU I SAID!
Edit: Seems like you deleted your last post, bragging about how you played your Ele since 2005. Nvm. I won’t delete mine.
I did not delete my old post, It got deleted because the the person I quoted was deleted for some reason.
BTW I am not bragging I m simply stating facts, since the person I quoted stupidly assume I hated the elementalist.
Even in my original point I made it very clear that fundamentally the elementalist is different from gw1, but ultimately my point was I did not hate the class. If my post invoke an emotional respond then you clearly got issues, nothing anybody says online should ever invoke emotions.
I have been playing the game since beta 1, I don’t care about legendaries. I am in a way impressed at the brilliance of the players that figure it out. Also maybe next time Arenanet will put a lot of thought into their design, but i suspect they wont, but I digress. Anyways the precursor value is more less because they are extremely hard to get nothing more and nothing less. I never once exploited the gendaran event because it wasn’t worth my time nor have did I farm deadeye. In the context of the event during release I still manage to hit 80 within the week, I did not need that cheat to level fast.
Moving on the elementalist represents a fundamental flaw in the combat system or maybe the half baked nature of it, but this is beyond the scope of this discussion.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Except that mesmer WAS OP. A nerf is not really a nerf IF the class being nerf was OP. Nerfing an OP class simply amounts to making it equal to everyone else. The mesmer for the first time ever is a victim of not being part of the CURRENT meta, a meta that will change after the PAX tournament, that is it.
Two things:
1) a nerf is a nerf. It might be deserved, but it doesn’t make it less of a nerf.
2) I was commenting on a point I misunderstood from Leuca, which he clarified later, so that became obsolete and can be ignored safelyThe situation the elementalist has is far more dire. And just for the record the elementalist have receive far more nerfs than any class in this game. WE got nerf after the first beta and we have been continously nerf since then. The only buff we have receive was being given a mediocre trait called “fresh air” WHICH only works for 1 weapon set or at least is only effective on 1 weapon set.
I wouldn’t say eles got “far more” nerf than mesmer, and ele too was called op in it’s time (not taking side here). But it doesn’t relate to the topic: whatever buff/nerf happened, the current state is a fact, and it’s what needs to be changed (because, yes, here I’m taking side: ele feels really UP in PvP).
I think you misunderstood what I was saying.
Indeed, and I wholeheartdely agree with you in this light
Also, the funny thing is that mesmers in general are stronger than eles now. They have much more variety when it comes to choosing traits and weapons, greater access to conditions in a condi meta, as well as a greater number of ways to provide team utility. Their burst is pretty fast and effective without blowing 3 utilities and all survivability and staff is still an absurdly powerful defensive tool with a pseudo stun-break every 6-8 seconds.
I think you overestimate a bit some things. Mesmer access to condition is better to only the ele one, the “fast and efficient burst” require to blow a lot of things (mirror image (and lose this stunbreak btw), a dodge, the so-cool staff pseudo stunbreak, plus another clone-generating skill of your choice). You could say it doesn’t matter much, but misconceptions won’t help balance (I personnally think it’s what killed ele in the first place).
The problem with mesmer is mainly it’s condition defence, and it’s why it should go up in the chart when the meta calm down. Condition defence is about the only thing the ele get right in this meta, so I don’t really expect it to get betterTL;DR: Leuca mostly got me covered, ignore me :P
you totally right a nerf is a nerf except that the mesmer actually need it and still need it. Any class where you rely on an AI to passively deal damage shows a significant flaw the the combat system.
When you are OP getting nerf just means you are trying to bring balance. When you are the elementalist getting nerf from OP to nothingness then that is different.
The mesmer has the benefit of changing once the meta changes after pax, elementalist there is no sign anything will change and the elementalist has a lot of fundamental problems that require a lot of work and the fine folks at Arenanet don’t seem interested in doing the job. I mean why would they that would be admiting they royally kittened up.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Last time I checked eles actually had the best PvE DPS thanks to greatsword/hammer. Dropping a fire field before you go hammer gets your team AoE might.
Also for zerg vs zerg eles are worse than necros ATM. Organized they’re useful, but in random blobs it’s better to go necro.
You mean by relying on a kittenty conjure? The OP was asking if it was fun not whether nor not you force yourself into using a crappy skill because all your alternative suck.
OP technically, you have the highest dps by doing what Wryog BUT at the cost that you effective strip away the purpose of playing the class. if your biggest concern is dps you get nearly equal amounts of dps + way higher hp, way way higher toughness and defense. With the added bonus that you don’t have to deal with the frustration of playing a subpar glass cannon without the cannon class.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
First of all: Conditions tick during mist forn as well. With 30 in water, and using 2 traits it mist form does cure a single condition. Also I can’t believe that there’s an invulnerability discussion going on without mentioning Blurred Frenzy. 2s evade on 12s cooldown while dealing damage.
9 1/2 seconds if you trait it, so every 9 seconds you got a free invulnerability+damage. Well at least the mesmer isn’t as fast as the elementalist right?
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
You don’t know you can charge churned earth then lighting flash? A stupid ele would just walk up and churned earth expecting not to be interrupted or that people will stay in the rings. You can cast armor of earth before doing that combo as well if you don’t want to take the risk of being interrupted.
We all know about CE->LF. While situationally it is good, it is really bad against any class that bursts as they will gladly burst you down while you charge up that skill. A thief will gladly CnD—>backstab—>heartseeker you if you are gonna give him 3s of free damage. If you are using armor of earth or arcane shield, you just used 2 Utilities with pretty long and very long cooldowns for a skill that could be dodged or bleeds cleansed. The only time you would use both utils is if you are trying to bomb a big group.
Check out this guy’s stats. And let’s not forget he traited more on earth instead of water, so he could have higher hp in his previous build stats, 20k or so. He changed builds to that build b/c of the defense against the guards mastery. And that build is giving him the dps that I mentioned before. Watch his wvw videos. Seriously…Eles are viable. Just need to understand your role and what classes is your achilles heel. Some classes requires more teamwork on them rather than others. Simple as that.
I’m not quite sure what’s so hard to understand about this.
This guy’s entire build is only viable using a broken wvw mechanic (and he even says so). Every other class can get the same benefit and will outpace us if they build around it too. In fact, by using this as justification, you are showing that, to be on-par with other classes, we need a crutch like +2500 hp while they don’t. Think about what that really says about our power.
How would he know that, he has only played for less than a 2 weeks.
after watching videos or people playing against noob, supposedly he is an expert in the class.

who cares is you think it wont work. Guilds are actively doing GvG’s (deathmaches) and are having a blast!
let the Devs implement it and let the overall community decide.
If you have been on forums long enough once something becomes OFFICIAL it cannot have any significant problems. IF it does then people start complaining that it is the worst thing ever and it doesn’t benefit Arenanet in any manner. Similar to indie games vs big publisher games, gamers are more likely to tolerant indie games flaws but not necessarily the same thing EA, ubisoft or activision. Other issues start becoming EXTREMELY apparent, their no so great individual class balance etc.
They should offer ways to support GvG (large scale) or deathmatch indirectly but not necessarily put their seal of approval. Unless, they are willing to go down the path.
tl;dr
Player made DM in custom arena works because it is not official. If arenanet was to make a half baked DM it will cause a lot of QQ on the forums possibly far MORE than the leaderboard debacle. DM exposes a lot of the issues with the professions and I don’t think arenanet wants to open that door. Honest significant changes are made to the classes or the mechanics.

The problem with the elementalist is that, it is the only one where you feel like you are actually playing strategically and intelligently.
All other classes are mindless, press 1 and get big numbers with almost NO risk that is right no risk in any of their big skills. Try pulling off Earthquake without lightning flash, you are probably going to die.
The game currently favors spam X for 10k damage, while elementalist is A+b+d*X/D= 4k damage. WE need the whole game to be able to do A+b+d*X/D and that will make the game better. Also make condition damage the equivalent of critical/conditional. Right now the other 7 classes have EZ dps. We need to make everyone have difficult to acquire dps like the elementalist. while we are at it, fix the elementalist dependence on arcane and blah blah blah.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA ! For 1 year ele was the Opést class in-game , now a little nerf and you guys Q.q badly ? HAHAHA come on guys !
YOu mean for 1 year we were force to played a kittenty build called bunker because we were a glass cannon without the cannon and simply just a glass? A build that could last for 8 minutes without doing anything except waste people’s time?

I believe the Trait changes were the worst part of it all it feels like in a Beta state now compared to before. I believe it ’s both the Whiners and the Class Abusers fault for that one to happen and hope we see some proper buffs for Staff users soon not buffing the other Weapon abilities aswell (as they are perfectly fine and buffing them would only ask for more overall nerfs incoming as well).
Sorry bob, but your are blaming the wrong people. Ultimately, it is the developer’s job to make a decent class and in the case of the elementalist they kittened up royally. As long as it is in the game and not an exploit it’s fair game.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
I’d say that health pools shouldn’t be as drastically different from each other as they are. This leads to many 3s kills in pvp between burst builds, which is not exactly fun, and it also hurts pve. Adventurer and scholar professions could see their base HP to be slightly higher. Not normalized, though.
The current time-to-kill will need to be reduced a lot for builds like full-offensive elementalists (which do not exist) to ever strive someday.
20 in Arcana at least are a must take in every elementalist build. It is a design choice made by developers and also stated by Isaiah Cartwright that the Arcana traitline is designed to be useful in any elementalist build. If you think it is wrong, blame the design choices developers made.
It’s a design choice for the arcana traitline to be useful to any elementalist. That much is clear. But there’s a difference between “being useful” and “being absolutely needed”. Arcana is needed, and not because it has some of their best traits, which surely has, but because the current attunement recharge rate is broken, and the elementalist does not work well without it.
I totally agree, bring all damage to the level of elementalist. Do however buff up the thief to take into account their lost of damage whether via toughness or hp or whatever.
Anyways, bring the damage of all classes to that of the elementalist or slightly higher than the elementalist.
If a class can kill you by spamming buttons a couple of buttons you know the damage is too high.
The elementalist is simply a symptom of a much wider range of problems in this game. Everything about the elementalist requires work BUT other classes don’t necessarily need to put in the same amount of work.
thief: faceroll.
mesmer: hit skill 4 or 5 and summon a high dps illusion every 20 second.
eng: spam ’nades.
elementalist: try pulling off earthquake w/o lightning flash. LOL
The point being I think guild wars 2 combat would be far more interesting if every class big skills require as much danger as earthquake does with the cool down. So to summon an illusion you need to do something that puts you at risk and not simply press 4 or 5 and get a nice ez damage.

So give him some more food the next day too. If you gave him a life time’s supply of food all at once, it would be a waste since he would have no place to store it, and it would just end up spoiling.
Assuming I am walking in the same area, which in my example I wouldn’t be. Also what happens when I am not around to give him food the next day? I am not saying you shouldn’t give him food and I am saying it will be better to fix the reason he is homeless so I don’t have to constantly give him food or worry about it.

Anet, the living world is all good, but it doesn’t qualify as expansion content.
I don’t think you read it currently. He was saying he wants to use the Living story to introduce new areas not that they are expansion content. Besides if they keep improving LS content like they did between aetherblade and this invasion, LS could replace the really boring DE we currently have.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Personally, until Anet figures what they want to do with this game making an expansion is pointless. They are still trying to see how things work, how to make the world alive and give reasons for players to be out doing DE.
I don’t see players doing DE UNLESS they are leveling and or have “rewards”. farm wars 2 they cried.

I just want to remind folks again, the features and content you’d traditionally find in an expansion will absolutely be added to Gw2. The thing we haven’t decided is what form the release of that content would be presented in, be it a traditional expansion, living world, or some other form.
And will certain implementations like the living story give us all the features and content we’ve come to expect from expansions? It seems kind of hard to use the living story to add things like a continents worth of maps or new social/fluff features like lfg tools and housing.
Those things are already being added. And none of those things are content per say aka simply UI changes. Housing are things that can be added and are not story driven.
I believe he is talking specifically like new maps/regions or their supposedly vision for raids.
Those were examples.
Essentially, I was commenting on them being bad examples since they have nothing to do with story new maps or anythings. All those things are simply UI changes, just like the wallet. They have no real impact on the world itself.

Traditional expansion just divide the community. Some buy and some don’t.
Use the Living Story to add traditional expansion content. So everyone can play. You will also see more gem store sales that way.
They could do it like aion and just add new regions BUT I suspect Ncsoft might see this as a money making opportunity which isn’t a bad thing. Expansions also allows the game to reset. But I think they should do it the aion method where you get content without paying for it.
Also there is nothing really wrong with dividing the community anyways, other MMORPG have done it and it doesn’t significantly impact the coumminity except for a few cheapskates (non-negative manner). If you have issues paying for the expansion you can also just grind use the gold and buy the expansion through the cash shop (extremely brilliant if they go via this method) it generates the demand for gems and cheapskates don’t have to worry about spending real money.

What I think Anet should try is to remove the cdr per attunement traits and just add traits that reduce skills for a weapon.
Nice thought, but what tree would it go into? Arcane … forces us down there further.
Fire? Not many use it.
Air? Good for GC but not bunker.
Water? Good for bunker but not GC
Earth? Similar to fireYou can’t eat your cake and have it. Either you put the CD reduction trait in arcana (and pidgeonhole eles further), or put it in a specialized tree. Most other professions have their CD reduction in trees not suited for all build, if you really want to go their way you have to suffer the drawbacks too. Plus, it would be the occasion to make people take more of those unused line (like fire).
Yeah while now warriors with greatswords and main hand sword and mesmers with blink and others, thiefs nfiltrator’s Arrow can run like anyting because they have short cooldowns, I find it an hypocrisy nerfeing the elementalist for reason of being too powerfull when other classes can have the same jump away tactics with shorter recharge, hell this brings back “Smiter’s Boon” to mind, got nerfed into a real oblivion in pvp all due to ONE build. And now gw1 wont even have its must needed classes update. Breaks my heart seeing the games broked down like this.
Don’t get too hasty. Mesmers have virtually no swiftness and no passive speed boost. Blink is good, sure, but even with it elementalist travel more quickly. Way more.
Plenty of professions have big effects with relatively low cooldowns that haven’t been adjusted as the skills have gotten stronger. The elementalist is fairly alone in this regard.
Say hello to the mesmer, and its streak of 10 months of constant nerfs. Elem isn’t alone
And don’t forget ele still have some sick skills too. Magnetic pulse (earth focus #4) clean conditions, blast finisher, reflect projectiles and deal aoe damages on a 30s CD, traitable at 24. Sick. But the problem with ele isn’t as much individual skills as synergies (focus is quite meh as a whole, despite magnetic pulse and swirling winds).
With 20 weapon skills, some are totally underwhelming, and some are very good. Before tweaking the traits, I would advocate making all weapons skills worthwhile, then balance around them.
The situation the elementalist has is far more dire.
Air fresh is giving a homeless guy food and calling it a day. It was a nice thing, but it doesn’t solve his current homeless issues or cover the next day.

I think our CD are unnecessarily long so they should be reduce for no reason other than they are too long.
Get rid of the “alacrity” traits and combining them with other grandmaster traits. So if you are willing to go that far into a trait you should be rewarded with skill cd reduction for that attunement. This should come with the global CD reduction because our skills have usually long CD.
All our cantrip skills should have a minimum CD of 40-45 BEFORE 20% cantrip reduction. Our aura skills should block damage AND be on a maximum of 20 second timer + they should be spread out and amount different weapons and remake the kittenty skills on the focus.
Also Bring back fire storm from guild wars 1 and reintroduce exhausion if they are afraid of high damage spam. Just copy some guild wars 1 elementalist skills and slap on the focus and call it a day.

That is the way businesses work. It’s like buying BF3 at release and getting mad that you can buy it for less than 4 dollars+5 other games at the humblebundle pack.
While we are at it why dont ask they refund the 20 dollars more you paid for the game now that it has dropped in price?
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
They should be merit based and the merits should be dependent on the game mode. A good WvW commander isn’t necessarily a good PvE commander and vice versa. All those that bought a commander tag should be refunded, but they should be something more than just spending money. In WvW the current method of buying the tag is fine, over time players come to learn to listen or ignore certain commanders, in PvE not so much.
So they should be a different requirement for PvE in other to display it. It should cost 200 gold, certain achievement threshold AND they should be different types of commanders.
Guild commanders, assigned by the guild master used influence to buy it. Only seen by guildies. works in both PvE and WvW.
WvW commanders: 100g (getting gold is harder in WvW than in PvE, certain amount of WvW achievement completed + certain amount of tokens, usage by all members of the account and or requires certain WvW skill points to unlock). Only works in WvW. So being a commander would be a skill line on the WvW skill traits and will require players to dump points into it if they want to be a commander.
PvE commanders: 200g, certain achievement treshold usable by every toon on the account.
I feel like these 3 options will cut down on the amount of noise commanders, while not punishing guilds that need it for organization purposes.

DM will never work in guild wars 2 because of the way the classes are. Certain classes are simply just more efficient at killing than other classes. If they were to implement deathmatch, I doubt you will see a lot of elementlist working around because they will be free food for everyone else.
As of right now the classes are not terribly balance well. Certain classes have a huge advantage due to mechanics and what not. DM tends to favor a certain styles that other classes might not be too strong at.
The only way for deathmatch to exist would be for the current system of skills and traits and classes be redesigned from the ground up to make things relatively fair for every class and I don’t see Arenanet putting the time or effort into it and even still then I think deathmatch don’t belong in an MMO. DM works for shooters because classes don’t have a lot of things to worry about, you don’t have a lot of hp difference, skills and traits and one or 2 bullets in the head and you are dead. I don’t see a lot of MMORPG being too happy about dying in less than 3 seconds with 16k+ hp. The whole illusion of power in an MMORPG depends on BIG numbers, seeing 16k go down in 4-5 seconds in a game mode is different than getting zerged in WvW.
It will work. In fact there are zerg fights of big zergs in WvW where the zergs sometimes fight only because they need to fight – far away from some objective. That’s not much different from a deathmatch… only that there are tons of players instead of only a few… and you don’t win and then it’ sover. After your zerg wins you move elsewhere and the others need to respawn and lose time.
.
Except that killing players isn’t the purpose of WvW. You don’t get points for killing players but breaking and taking locations. And you don’t neccessarily lose of getting out zerged or zerged. You just rez up and continue.
Deathmatch however is about killing other players, that is the purpose of it and so a lot of people will be complaining like always how this is unfair and this mode sucks, how certain classes have the advantage.

Ele is perfectly fine right now. The issue is that a lot of players came to Ele when it was completely OP. Now that it is more balanced, those people are complaining because it is no longer OP.
I got this game after the patch and the class feels lacking in potency, compared to other classes. All the abilities feel like they are either pointless filler or ineffective due to CD restraints.
The abilities do have a lot of variety in terms of utility effects, but are ineffective due to an inability to sustain any of those effects. At the same time, since each weapon’s skill set are designed around a specific playstyle, not being able to swap weapons effectively locks the class to one playstyle during combat, making it feel more restrictive than other classes that can swap weapon/playstyle on the fly.
Looking at the D/D loadout, I would argue there are only 6 or 7 unique skill types out of the whole set of 20 skills. Everything else is just filler/mirror of the same effect, with a different animation. Add to that their CDs are so long, that the class is “encouraged” to constantly swap attunements to just sustain DPS output, and the result is a pointlessly manic class.
The elementalist is a class for people that enjoy pushing a spherical boulder up a hill. It also seems to favor mindless button mashing with nearly no thinking involve. Essentially, just make a macro and win except for staff.
Lol, so is your class and it doesn’t matter which one it is. That’s all any of them are. omg.
what?(not trying to be rude or anything).
(me either) The “mindless button mashing with nearly no thinking involve(d). Essentially, just make a macro and win.” If 4 attunements and 20 skills is that, certainly 2 weapon sets and 10 skills is not different. Engi is the exception to that number but not the ease of play. I don’t think the other classes are any less or more difficult btw. After a year and hundreds of hundreds of hours playing, it all is becoming so much easier. tPvP will always be the exception because the small differences in reflexs and reaction times of the player helps to determine the winner. But, for us hackers in Wvw and Pve? It is sheeer fun.
I get what you are saying, why think when your body has just memorize the patterns.

I’m sick of people like LightningBlaze cluttering up this forum.
There is nothing neccessarily wrong with players like him, they provide another prospective, I just wish that they realize that their prospective is extremely flawed. Beating players in WvW doesn’t really say anything about the class, because they are a lot of things that make WvW combat different from pvp. Not including the difference in the way certain skills operate, you got server bonuses, foods, rune combination, the fact that most t1/t2 players are simply headless chickens without a crew behind them.
I will say that the worst are the PvE heroes coming in here and acting like being good at mindless braindead predictable PvE mobs is something to be proud. OMG I can provide mediocre support and do mediocre damage = elementalist being good.

@Nikkinella.8254 nice post.
I play exclusively elementalist and I seriously thinking to delete this toon and stop playing the game.
I
That seems extremely passive aggressive.
You can always simply stop playing, but to erase your character is a waste of time. Hopefully, it will change but to delete it is not the solution.
Except for the PvEers and the WvWers, we can agree that elementalist has a lot of issues and hopefully it will be change at some point.

It’s funny you say that because some guy said the exact same thing on the Swtor before release. I remember a few supporter agreeing with him and let’s look at how history.
I would not play anything but ele, and in high-level PvE I find it quite fine, difficult, but fine

People are mostly whinning about WvW (read mobility) here.
Actually, very few of us that are “whinning” are talking about WvW. WvW isn’t a place you go to fight players or challenge yourself. WvW is a place jammed packed with noobs used to following commanders and zerging to the left and zerging to the right.
In an environment with everything equal the elementalist is worthless.
PvE and WvW are modes that not worth discussing. PvE (except QC) is so mindless and predictable that you rarely worry about balance. WvW you generally have A LOT of time to recover (cool downs etc)until your next opponent, actually most of the time you have the option to choose your victim.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Your friend just doesn’t get the profession. No worries, not many people do. Those that do know most complaints are way over the top (and having been on both sides of the fence, I can say it’s not nice to hear you need to shap up to play ele, but sadly I have to admit it’s true).
I am sure that is totally the problem. It is not the classes it is most people, oops I mean noobs, having the problem. Afterall ballers like you don’t have a problem.
Over the years are I have played MMO, they always people like you that claim they are no issues with a class, it is because everyone else is bad, they are a pro at that class.
The reality generally is that be good at the class, but they are only good against noobs. Elementalist is one of those classes that against noob it is a strong class, in PvE there is almost no thinking involve so the elementalist in that scenario is also great. IN WvW, most of the flaws in the elementalist is made by the fact that gear+food + the downtime between fights is+ effect of the nerfs are less significant in PvE, but mainly because a lot of WvWers are not PvPer.

Honestly, I don’t count “BETA” because it lasted only 2 days. So compared that 2 days to the amount of time guild wars 2 has been out.
During BETA and after BETA for a few months at least Ele was VERY strong, of course it got weaker and weaker as time went on but their was a time after its release that Ele was very strong. Now look at it
If you are talking about bunker builds I don’t really consider that strong. Teh bunker was nothing more than a desperate reaction to the fact that we were bad at EVERYTHING else. It was the only build useful in tpvp.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Basically, the problem is threefold:
1) Some of the nerfs were never necessary.
2) Most of the other classes have since been buffed.
3) People understand how elementalists work now.Looks at Mesmer, the last “buff” Mesmers got were to 2 minor skills. that was the first time in ALONG time that they hadnt been nerfed. You can bet the moment that PAX is over (despite not having one Mesmer in it) that Mesmer will be hit hard again with another batch of nerfs.
Already talk of nerfing one of pretty much the only 2 builds that currently work very well (Phantasm) while the other (Shatter) wont be to fair behind once Phantasm has been nerfed, starting with 20% damage reduction across the board for Phantasms
I agree they are a VERY bad state, given time Mesmers will be there once the only builds that work (and forced to use as none other is viable) have been nerfed into the ground.
Except that the mesmer doesn’t have any real problems. The only problem is that the current meta favors condition which will get fixed. elementalist have always been bad except for the cheap bunker crap and nothing more.
“Always” i remember in the BETA and just after they were insane. D/D seems to be loved as well even if i dont like it. You might be there now, Mesmers will be joining you. They don’t have many problems that true other except:
1) a trait tree that is a total mess with traits in the wrong tree, traits that dont work or traits that no one actually wants
2) The fact that people despite the fact they get nerfed pretty much every patch STILL cry for more – an example being the wanted 20% nerf to one of the few viable (except for S/TPvP) builds
Other then damage wise, i would say Ele and Mesmer are quite similar in that Anet doesnt quite know what they want them to be, Mesmer seems to be getting pushed (forced!) towards Interrupt builds which is the EXACT opposite of what happened in GW1 where they started out as Interrupt builds, Anet found out that no one liked them and so had to “buff” change them into more damaging
Honestly, I don’t count “BETA” because it lasted only 2 days. So compared that 2 days to the amount of time guild wars 2 has been out.
Actually, the mesmer isn’t in similar situation. Arenanet dug themselves in a hole with the elementalist.

On the bright side the skill development team really outdid themselves this time. Did you see all of those skill fact changes? What is that the second update in a row they pulled that off? Absolutely amazing.
+highfiveActually, the already said they wont be any changes UNTIL after the PvP tournament, which makes sense. So you have to wait until september 3rd at the earliest.
I’m aware of that. However for their main, awesome PvP event at a controlled location they can easily run a separate build. They’ve done it so many times during development previews. But anyways, just ragin. All I do is check updates and get AP from story now. WvW has long since ceased to be fun.
They could but why would they? Don’t get me wrong I want fixes for the elementalist but they are not going to do it. Also the main reason is it will screw up the teams that want to practice unless you want to create a special instance for the qualifying teams, which aint going to happen.
