I will say that developers always took ideas, but never made it apparent. But players were complaining about the lack of “openness”, so to give them the illusion of transparency they started being more obvious about it, so that players cannot QQ. notice how they never go above the it sounds nice blah blah blah, we will consider it

Another possibility is that they are trying to turn the tide of hyperbole on the PvP forum (which is jackpacked, I do it for the elementalist), by only rewarding constructive criticism this allows the following: gives an illusion of more communication for the forum warriors while reducing the amount of hyperbole since it trains players that, those type of comments wont get a response (personally wont, cant stop, cuz the ele suck and QQ makes me feel better for some odd reason).

Another more LIKELY possibility is that she did pass on the information, the devs considered it and rejected it for a variety of reasons. We can’t be sure since we are not part of the design team.

Remember kids, just because an idea sounds good to YOU, doesn’t mean the idea is good for the game or feasible for a myriad of reasons.

Lina, you’re spot on with the ironic nerf comments. However… I must say eles weren’t designed poorly. They just need some trait reworks similar to fresh air to make each trait line as valuable as the next. It would be neat to see Arcana give minus condition duration or something beneficial instead of attunement recharge and have all attunement recharges standardized at 8-9 seconds.

A rework to Arcana like that would make Fresh Air almost unnecessary. Not a bad thing, but that’s what would happen.

I think fresh air should be an immediate or a maximum of three second recharge. And I think each element minus arcana should have a similar mechanism. Thanks for your comment!

Fresh air traits are stupid and shouldn’t exist. They are a few suggestions that will be perfect around this parts, I think it was the attunement swap bar.

And if they do give all attunement fresh air like traits at the mininum they need to merge them with alarcity traits for each line.

Current month; 9th (September):

  1. * July 23:*

Rampage: This elite skill now also provides 20 seconds of swiftness.
Smash: This skill now causes a 2-second cripple. Increased the maximum number of targets to 3.
Bash: This skill no longer causes cripple. It now causes 5 stacks of vulnerability for 5 seconds. Increased the maximum number of targets to 3. Fixed a bug so that this skill properly displays in the attack chain.
Uppercut: This skill no longer causes vulnerability; it now dazes the target for half a second. Increased the maximum number of targets to 3. Fixed a bug so that this skill is properly displayed in the attack chain.
Dash: This skill no longer knocks back the player’s target. Reduced the recharge to 6 seconds. Increased the damage by 100%. Cleaned up the animation so that it will hit the target more quickly when used at close range.
Throw Boulder: This skill now causes a 2-second stun. Increased the damage by 65%. Increased the projectile velocity by 50%.
Seismic Leap: This skill has replaced Stomp. It is now a ground-targeted, 2-second AoE knockdown with a 600-unit range.
Bull’s Charge: Cleaned up the animation so it will hit the target more quickly when used at close range.
Staggering Blow: Fixed an issue that caused players to stop in place after using this skill.
Signet of Might: The activated unblockable buff now lasts for 5 strikes.
Impale: This skill now applies torment instead of bleeding. Two stacks of torment are now applied upon the sword’s impact.
Mending: Reduced the recharge to 20 seconds. Decreased the base heal by 6%. Scaling with healing power has been decreased by 20%. This skill now removes 3 conditions.
Healing Signet (Passive): Reworked the formula that this passive heal uses. At level 80, this skill goes from 392 healing per 3 seconds to 467 healing per 3 seconds with 1500 healing power.
Healing Surge (Stage 0 Heal): Increased the base heal by 12%. Scaling with healing power has been decreased by 10%.
Healing Surge (Stage 1 Heal): Increased the base heal by 11%.
Healing Surge (Stage 2 Heal): Increased the base heal by 19%. Scaling with healing power has been increased by 25%.
Healing Surge (Stage 3 Heal): Increased the base heal by 16.5%. Scaling with healing power has been increased by 50%.
Rush: Cleaned up the animation so that this skill will have a smoother transition when approaching the target.
Heightened Focus: This trait now applies the appropriate crit chance per adrenaline level.
Berserker’s Power: This trait now applies the appropriate damage increase per adrenaline level.

I don’t know how anybody can claim guild wars 2 has many people playing its pvp unless we are talking about hotjoins and custom arena’s which as far as I am concerned are some kind of illegitmate child of pvp. The amount of people regularly taking part in ranked arena matches is quite small when you consider this game sold millions of copies and is free. 5-10 minute queue (sometimes longer) times tells me that ranked arena pvp = not popular

Hotjoin is still part of spvp, contrary to what any body on this forum would like to believe.

How about, as a community, you come together with positive suggestions, critical feedback regarding what, specifically, is the issue with the meta at the moment, and what they can do to change it.

There have been dozens of EXTREMELY well written threads detailing out and thoroughly discussing just that…
Anet has ignored every one.

Anyone in Alpha who critiqued Anet’s vision of the gam was kicked from the kittening group…

It’s not a problem with the community… this game has had one of the best, most supportive, passionate communities I have ever seen… for the few months it was alive.

Not to interupt you, since you seem to enjoy hearing yourself talk but people say crap all the time. I find it more likely they got kicked out of alpha for something other than what they claim. People do this all the time especially with the “I got banned for blah blab…” usually turns out that they were lying just to get internet points.

also even if they were in alpha, I doubt ARenanet was going to be stupid enough hold the game because the least significant part (population and in MONEY) of it wasn’t up to par to some random poster PoV. part of a successful product is all about timing, and the game seems fine without the PvP being great (if you look at the profits and content).

You can’t compare PVP in an MMORPG to a solely-PVP game like Smite or League.

Period.

Someone never played GW1 I guess.

Actually, gw1 started out as a PvP game with PvE tagged on later. The PvE was originally intended to be a sort of training ground for PvP, but it turned out that PvE became more popular (it generated more money for them), which is why gw2 is in the direction it is now.

DO NOT play the elementalist, if you plan on playing anything other than PvE. Even PvE it is better to be a warrior, Arenanet loves that class and it makes anything in this game easier.

PvE the holy grail is warrior, guardian and mesmer. PvP it is warrior, guard, necro, engineer, thief, ranger, mesmer (lower due to condition meta) and then in the EZ to kill, lower dps, free kill, low hp, crappy builds, anything bad you can think of failementalist.

I hope I saved you the trouble and even after all my suggestion you still want to play that class, just know that one day if we ever get buff we might just be average, considering the amount of work we have to put in to be average. a great ele is simply just an average player due to how bad the class currently is.

Hi,

The first video wasn’t even funny. My advice? Don’t play ele, it’s not your cup of tea. Some people just don’t have skills to handle the class.

Watch how this guy beat a thief with his ele and learn a thing or two. The video’s not mine. It’s a guy from NA server.

Another guy that missed the point, watch both videos.

Also, keep in mind that guy has a very specific build that’s basically half tank half dmg build, AND he has to use the hp buffs gained in WvW just to have 14-15k health to even survive.

And he goes toe to toe with glass cannon thieves who can survive w/o the need of all of that.

Not to mention how the poorly designed attunements force him to just rotate cooldowns instead of having the freedom to use them when needed, this forces Ele’s to build bunker builds and always have 30 in Arcana. Are people seeing the problem yet?

Another whiner.

I didn’t miss the point Knote. The fact that other classes are played by mindlessly smashing buttons speaks only to the lack of skills of those who play those classes, nothing more, nothing less.

And in this video he doesn’t have any of the WvW buffs, he fights thiefs with 14 k HP, which is his base HP, now what does it mean I wonder?

The only one who’s missing the point is you Knote.

Please do not post if you have no idea of even the basics.

Or let him post and we can all have a big laugh at all the dumb things he kittening says. If it wasn’t sad, drinking by yourself I would totally make a drinking game out of comments from him, thibash, that pve guy with the name Zesomething. So whenever they claim the ele is find I take a shot.

there have been thousand of topics regarding suggestions but they have been completely ignored till now, and now it’s too late and everyone (seriously, EVERYONE) left the game. so don’t say we should give suggestions or feedback because we did it millions of times.

I want the failementalist fix, but if they were to take some of the ideas from this forum, it will wreck the game.m (same reason why the elementalist got warp into the failementalist).

Just because an idea seems good due to your limited experience with development doesn’t necessarily make a good idea. Just remember when you post comments like “people post idea=good”.

What is their method? Is there a test server somewhere? How many people have access to it?

This is getting more and more of the feeling of a sinking ship. The most productive thing I could see is to show how spvp could make anet money and then change will probably happen.

Failementalist was nerfed in a day, so your point is MOOOOOOOOOOT.

All it took was 1 bwe to start the complete destruction of the elementalist class. So there. PvP content takes a while, whatever, but balancing can be done at anytime and with little to no programming, it is just that they choose not to.

Instead of having more devs work on balance, they had on balance dev working on trait symbols.

If you have small hands stick with the naga, if you have big hands enough to palm an nba basketball get the g600, unless you only want to use the firsti 9 skills. (i used all of the 12 buttons on the g600, but it is a little uncomfortable).

I hope you are smart enough to realize that by virtue of being in WvW you get power of the mist NOT the same as bloodlust.

Against once you strip away all those bonuses like in SPvP, I wonder how he would perform. Also he is using signet of restoration which isn’t as effective in spvp.

I havent been bothered to watching the whole video, but i dont think he ever showed what type of gear he was wearing. Nor does the video show anything related to the skill level or gear for the opposing player. Finally, whose to say he doesn’t do too badly and doesn’t show when he does aka only showing when he does well.

First of all, if I wanted to play the FOTM it wouldn’t be guardian it would be warrior.

Secondly, Sticking your head up your kitten doesn’t change the fact that the elementalist is bad. Nobody on high level PvP (and no WvW with pve bonus and pve skills and gear differential is not high level PvP or killing noobs) plays elementalist, I guess everybody except you is a noob?

Elementalists are underpowered now

In WvW. You have the advantage of server bonus, gear and level differential and the lack of PvP experience propping up an otherwise kittenty class.

In Spvp, a great elementalist is on par with an average player solely due to the class mechanics and stats working against the elementalist.

It is downright sad and the worst thing is we wont get changes for at least a month and a half. AS a person who bought the game primarily for the ele, makes me wonder why I invested in this game for so long.

Analyzing inherent elementalist issues

Elementalists are just at an inherent statistical disadvantage. We start off with the lowest armor/health of any class, and then ontop of that, we have to put 300 points in a line that doesn’t give any stats. By the time we’re done gearing to compensate for this fundamental disparity, we have absolutely no room left on our gear for damage.

Almost every other class gets at least 250-300 points worth of condition damage, precision damage or power from their traits and ALL have more health or armor than we do.

Where are we getting compensated for this, statistically speaking?

Obviously by being support.

coming from a guy that primarily plays a thief or talks about the thief or used when i cared to bother.

What you said is sooooooooooooooooo funnnnnny.

What are you finding so funny , pls tell me.

Ele is the only profession having a totally INSTANT burst, with no animations involved.

If ele sustained damage is low than fix it, we don’t need anymore instant bursts.

The only instant, damagin, skill the thief has is Steal when traited with Mug, that used to deal 4-5k in a full burst build.

Now it doesn’t crit anymore, 2k AT MAX.

Ele deals 2k by simply swapping to air, another 2k+ by using Lightning strike, both instant, both on extremely low CD ( both 5 secs with Fresh air).

This without accounting Arcane wave/blast. Both instant.

This isn’t exactly what i would call " skills with possible counterplay".

In a thread talking about " visible burst with clear animation", the ele has no place, unless you talk ONLY about Fire burst.

In that case, i agree.

I will be the first to admit the fresh air burst is cheap and bad for the game. And I actually agree with the concept the OP was saying that the game should be brought down to the level of the elementalist BUT the staff should be used as the vehicle for that change. IT is obvious, slow, gives time for the player to react to it.

Air fresh build (which I hate cuz its cheap) exist because we have no other viable alternative, if we did that would be nice and I will go as far as to say that Arenanet should have actually fixed the problems instead of giving us a cheap band aid (air fresh)

Fresh air suck, still doesn’t change the fact that the thief is spammy though.

Anet just doesn’t care about this game, they’re too busy making a stupid world boss harder so people grind their eye’s out trying to kill it thus resulting in more play time. as far as PvP and WvW in this game it’s as unbalanced as possible. I’ve never played an MMO with such a stubborn dev team for PvP it’s really dissapointing because this game has so much potential

For a sec it is almost like they have different teams for different issues. I don’t know.

Personally the PvE guys are stepping up, maybe the balance team should take a page from them.

Exactly.

Not necessarily in terms of how hard to play the classes should be, but there just needs to be more thought required, and risk/reward in attacks like Ele.

I feel like it is easier to balance the elementalist to the other classes than bring them down to our level. So I don’t see the fine devs at Arenanet balancing team putting in the effort to do that.

It’s not about buffing Ele or nerfing the rest of the classes, it’s about changing the game to be less spammy and thoughtless and a little slower/strategic and require brain power to actually kill people.

You can literally just spam auto attacks and kill people, depending on the class/weapon.

Ele can’t do that, outside of maybe Lightning Whip but even then they’re way too squishy to sit there and just do that.

I dont disagree with what you said and the basic concept of, it is something similar I have QQ about in the past.

I feel like it is easier to balance the elementalist to the other classes than bring them down to our level. So I don’t see the fine devs at Arenanet balancing team putting in the effort to do that.

I like it and the bars could be called mana.

And Arcane function like energy storage kinda like a certain game called gw1 had, but it would be the reverse. Instead of adding more energy for each point, it would increase rate of recharge w/o making it mandatory.

I think staff should be long range single target damage with a little sprinkle of AoE support (water should stay the same) and control. Most of the Aoe should be on the 4th and 5th skill on each attunement.

water, air earth 1,2,3 should be faster projectile single target damage.
fire should be faster AoE (300 range around target) damage.

Also we should get a pistol to go in hand with the scepter, since dagger’s range contradicts the scepter’s range and focus just sucks.

With that said, it is easy to QQ (we all do it, I do it all the time like above), but you have to provide solutions that are actually feasible.

So far, I haven’t seen any solution you have presented that would make it better in your opinion or even link to any solutions. The ones you have presented, are NEVER going to happen, getting rid of a class mechanic completely to solve the issue you are having is not going to happen, you have to work within the system that exist.

Personally, I think that they should slow down the game a little slow which will allow people to react more tactically and not just simply spamming or relying completely on reflex. Or fixing the targetting system to be a little more freeform (like TERA but I suspect that aint going to happen).

Solutions is the devs job and any change must be tested.

Off the top of my head I would do the following;

1, Reduce minions HP by 33% in pvp
2, Reduce spirit HP by 33% in pvp
3, Reduce turret HP by 10% in pvp

Ultimately, the solutions are the devs job, but suggestions are just that SUGGESTIONS.

The thing is, it is easy to complain but if you offer nothing to lead them to a path that would make YOU feel better, since you are the one who is complaining then it solves nothing. What if the solution they provide isn’t what you envisioned, then you will be back to square one.

Secondly, DEVS don’t always have the answer. Players tend to be more free thinking than devs because devs are usually looking at things from a bigger picture, but the little ideas can spur a light bulb. A bunch of self interest post might lead to a spark.

Elementalists are by design supposed to use all four attunements. The proposal here, would make elementalists play more like other classes, which we have enough of.

Having to wait before you can switch back, is a mechanic that makes the elementalists interesting, and it requires some tactics.

Elementalists should be balanced around this though. A problem with trait lines, is that they only buff one attunement (except arcana), and you will stay within one attunement a shorter amount of time, compare to having two weapons.

Specializing in 2 elements would essentially be the equivalent of having 2 solid weapon sets just like other classes, I’m really liking that idea now.

That would only be useful imo IF the different attunements actually behaved in their intented manner.
Fire AoE damage, water support, air high single target damage and earth defensive.

right now, except for water, each attunement is just a kittenty copy of each other. The attunements skills have to evolve past those basic skills but I doubt Arenanet will put in the effort to do that OR maybe (optimistic) they reason we dont get buffs is because they are working on fixing the elementalist (I only laughed 2 times as I typed that sentence).

Instead of QQing how about offer alternate solutions aka alternate fail conditions.

Ultimately, time is the most effective and easiest condition, it allows for some setbacks and everybody is exactly on the same page and not worrying about something they cannot change or defend because they are on their own part.

Anyways, there is a reason why exams have timers and Liscensing boards exams have timers and it is because given enough time anybody can achieve something, but less people can achieve it in a finite amount of time.

I know people will hate it (for some reason), but imagine if Anet made these sort of fights but for 10-40 people and it required coordination/teamwork. Would be fantastic.

Could basically be raiding except have dynamic scaling so you could bring as many or little as you want.

I agree except for the 10 part. It should be 40-80 where it can scale.

Moving on:
I do think that an open instance system would be better to minimize lag and clutter. So once that instance is filled a new one is created, but it isn’t exclusive to guilds and groups.

If you don’t intent on doing anything that is attributed to playing an MMORPG, which is working on something, then why bother playing MMOs in the first place? Why not stick with a single player game where everything is on the easier side of things since it doesn’t matter whether you play or not after you buy the game.

Rangers are meant to “survive”. by design they were given up to 3 evades on a weapon sets and the easest access to protection/regen/vigor while giving them an outside source of passive DPS.

Thief were given a high damage perma evade at low initiative cost by design

Mesmers, even they were designed to be stronger than most classes, from pet targeting/positioning down to what would be their stronger build(shatter), all by design

GW2 has an amazing combat system, it’s all the poor design choises and lack of action that are harming the game

I guess the elementalist is meant to be mediocre at everything?

2. Your high dps depends entirely on cheap encounters, the moment the encounters evolve past that stand in place and dps, the so called damage falls apart. you have no range dps that can rival the warriors.

The realistic fresh air rotation I am advocating in my build has an average effective range of 300 and deals around 10k5 dps under full buffs. I think this kind of number is considered decent by the community.

A mesmer can provide far more amounts of damage AND support on low CD like the others have said at range with minimal risk to themselves. They just offer more. Again no bias group is going to pass up a mesmer or warrior or guardian to bring in an elementalist. They don’t do much and require far more skill to play at an average level compared to those 3 classes.

Arenanet doesn’t seem to think we need a buff because they are a lot of kitten elementalist in PvE that think being mediocre at everything is actually a good thing.

I just had an argument with a bunch of noobs in PvE on my engineer and they all claim the elementalist is great. Makes me sad.

Admittedly, I dont know why I was arguing with them in the first place.

Yes my ele is mediocre at doing the best burst and best dps in the entirety of the PvE world.

I don’t know why you seem to think I was talking about PvE but let’s talk about PvE then.
1. Your high dps depends entirely on somone else holding aggro. Which means the moment you get the mob’s attention you die. Aka if you are fighitng for example in QG, chances are you will probably not do as well as a warrior or mesmer.
