Yeh the last 3 months work has been well done. I was beginning to think pvp had been neglected with nothing in 3 months. But this patch is huge. The new temple is amazing and will transform the game.
I am very excited about the future now. Thank you so much for your hard work on pvp anet.

Forget Arcane Power, which is crappy. Elemental Surge with any of the other arcane skills works very nicely, especially when used a little bit before the blow out, which is when the enemy will try to dodge away.
Lightning Flash also works really well, especially when you cast CE close to a crowded capture point, and flash into it.
because we all know giving up one of your defensive skill in other to use a fairly telegraph skill is a great idea.

if you are PvEer non of the Ele QQ should really be a problem for you. Gw2 PvE is easier enough that you can be the worst and still be effective. but understand that they are other classes that do higher dps with better support, higher toughness and Hp or are just better overrall with less work.**
if you are a “player” playing PVE you should be the first to complain.
Since you get the most fun profession with 20 skills reduced to spam autoattacks or be useless.
If you ever played Pve you know how bad is to fight to do more dps than a mob regen….

you misunderstand, i m am now mostly stuck doing PvE, so I get what you are saying.
Most people are, however, not going to be aware of the limitations of the ele doing most of the PvE in this game, hence why a lot of ele do not switch out of the fire based on what the developers have said.
But most of the time you will never encounter most of the ele weakness or you will just get carried by your team.

I find it amazing how elementalist can rationalize certain that only negatively affect the elementalist. why is it that some ele can accept a skill that requires outside help to learn or multiple defensive skills to hit and yet no other class have a similar skill.

The recharge for unsteady ground will stay the same or about the same as it is currently. Also there are a few other nice staff changes coming in that patch as well. =)
That is what jon peters said and it ended up being a stupid buff to healing. So ya, I don’t expect it to be anything worth dreaming about.

Actually resources is stopping them, the fact that game doesn’t do too well when more than 10 people are in 1 area.
The fact that gvg only appeals to a small but vocal bunch that will evitably be the first to jump ship, like they always do anyways.

All of guild wars 2 problems are related to how the staff elementalist is currently is. They wantd a more fast pace game and all they got was spamming spam spamming. The staff elementalist skills function in a manner that would make pvp both exciting and more visual and less daunting but I suspect a lot of QQ would be raise if they change it to the staff ele animation and after cast and stuff.

There are other classes besides Ele? o_O
Ranger in GvG, WvW zerging.
But other than in that specific instance, no.
ranger pets in WvW zerg, but they great roamers. The elementalist are barely functional outside of Zergs. While the ranger provides a lot of great buffs to his team meats and has spirits to rez players.

Indeed I won’t admit this, not because it is untrue but because this is not what we are discussing here.
Someone made a claim that no ele can deal damage comparable to that of 100b in a single attack, I proved it wrong.
If we start discussing anything more than this, like class designs, then this conversation will never end. We do not have the skills or the knowledge to solve the “grand equation of classes” across all game modes and in all types of content. All we can do is compare simple concepts.
You didn’t prove anything, you just rattled off some numbers you made up. Find a video or find a new lie.

I think the problem is all the conditions in the meta. Ele’s are the worst class when it comes to dealing with condis. I think if you change the condi meta ele’s will be very strong because they 1v1 great, sustain and do good burst

The are some people that are going to tel you that the elementalist if fine and they are wrong. Endgame the flaws of the elementalist become significnatly apparent, especially if you plan on doing anything other than PvE and ZvZ (aka hide behind the zerg and spam aoe).
A lot of people are going to argue that the ele damage is on par wtih the best, but that is in fact a lie. The ele damage is high, but it requires that you use LH and a bugged FGS and in dungeon are have to be at the mercy of another class holding aggro or you get turned into shreds and those 2 things pretty much undermine the purpose of playing the ele. If you are going to lock yourself out of all your utilities then why bother playing the elementalist in the first place?

One can learn from fighting other classes, but fighting fellow elementalists (perfect balance/equality, same tools), you can see better where you lack. Because there’s always a better elementalist than one self.
Again, how does that help against other classes? I the real world, you are not only going to be fighting elementalist, as a matter of fact you will hardly fight elementalist.
So whatever you take from the fights will not be applicable, well at least not in the meta and not for a long time.
See if you want to have your Arena cool, but don’t make it sound grander than it really is. To me that is the equivalent of forming a group made of men and trying to come up with a marketing campaign for women, chances are it is going to fail real bad.

It doesn’t necessarily say anything. For it to say what you are indicating you would have to assume equal skill level on both teams and that the outcome was purely class based. The sad fact of the matter is that despite being so called “nerfed” people at the higher end of the game still feel that spirit rangers are very strong.
I am not necessarily arguing that some of the Ai based builds are not too easy. I am asking because the OP implied ai=win and if the edvience he uses says otherwise, the OP doesn’t have a leg to stand. (still doesn’t change the fact that ai are too powerful though). This goes to show to a small extend that a good team can beat an Ai team.
But I will say that, the class with the type of Aoe that could make AI useless is currently out of meta because the whole class sucks and the weapon that could do the deed also sucks.

This is how i see it
We play a support role with staff —> Healing, Speed and Disruption with Staff
We can also play a solo role --> Full Bunker DnD
We can also play a small group Auramaner —> DnD /SnD
We can also play a small group DPS -->1/2 Bunker 1/2 Glass DnD
We can also play a pure DPS role —> Freash air Build with SnDPerhaps this is what they meant by jack of all trades.
And we are saying we suck at all those things. Other classes do a better job directly and indirectly, than the ele, with the added bonus that they don’t suck at killing stuff.
All those roles you listed other classes can do a better job at it and NOT be a free kill.

I agree with the spirit of what you say, except they never said they will be no support classes, they said they will be no healing classes (they consider healing a subset under support). Their whole concept of gw2 was that they will be no, tank or healer, not that they will be no support.
With that said, it is sad that the elementalist is suppose to be a support class yet it suck at actually supporting when you start comparing the manner in which their skills actually operate.
The real false advertisement is changing the elementalist role after I already purchase the game.

Never mind that meteor shower takes 10 seconds to put out its damage and has a 30 second cooldown, while hurr durr blades can hit for 106k damage in 3.5 seconds with an 8 second cooldown.

Yeah but 100b requires you to be rooted and has melee range, while meteor shower has aoe etc etc, we are comparing the damage not the class.
ya, and who is going to stand and yet a meteor hit them. Let’s assume best case, another player roots your attack, the is still a slim chance that none of the attacks will actually hit you.
I know you will never admit it, but you cannot ignore that the warrior has way more dps for less works guranteered than hoping that a meteor hits you and it still does less damage.

You’re doing what you mistakenly believe is massive damage. Meanwhile, I’m Hurr Durr Blading my way through life 60,000 damage at a time.
In my 1000+ hours of playing guild wars 2, I have never seen such numbers except when I critic on a critter, so you are saying I should being lazy and make a warrior. I mean I have been telling people to roll warriors, but never actually did myself, I guess I am now.

I’m fine with balance discussions, but stuff like this is hard to deal with. The devs do not “neglect” your profession. They created your profession and make little tweaks to it constantly to try to improve on it and make it more balanced, just like they do with the other professions.
If you disagree with a decision, or hope to see a certain change, that’s fine. But claims that the devs are running a conspiracy to ignore or punish certain sections of the playerbase…it’s impossible to believe and tarnishes any good points that might otherwise be made.
That is because someone doesn’t know the definition of neglect and when i say someone I mean YOU.

I specifically remember the Devs saying that they buffed warriors and necros because of their poor representation. I really dont want to make hasty conclusions, but seriously, if warriors and necros got their attention because of this, and we dont, it is obvious that we are downright neglected.

It’s funny reading at some of the skills comparison, we are suppose to be a support class, but our aura need to be traited to actually offer group support, while other classes get short CD support and and group support.
Makes you wonder the process Arenanet goes through for their so called balancing.

It depends on the tier you are playing. In t1, you can always hide behind the zvz and use staff, in the lower tiers not so much.
anyways do yourself a favor and play another class. Playing the ele is like being the only one forced to do long division (for example) while everyone else has access to a calculator. Ya, you might feel better if you do better than those who used a calculator, but why would you risk it. (chances are unless the ppl using calculators are dumb you aint going to do better than them).

Yes, if you consider pressing a bunch of buttons mindlessly and hoping to win counts, then yes it has more diversity of builds. Build diversity isn’t going to save that clusterkitten you guys call GvG. The fact that arenanet is supposedly wasting resources on a game mode that can only benefits a small tiny fraction while they can use those same resources to open up SPvP more to the players, is sad.

Let me say that I don’t think the elementalist, or any, balancing should be done based on profession X can do Y for Z so much better than us! What I mean to say is, if your idea of balancing one class is to nerf another then it’s already pretty full of fail.

That’s a great mentality. You do realize that if there’s data that people like GW2 PvP, and it gets more popular, that it could = more resources? It’s cool though. If you don’t want to watch, you don’t have to.

OP if you can make extremely clear we are talking about sPvP because people have the tendency to assume PvE is relevant to mokitten of the ele’s problems.
Now, I would like to see the following:
Reduce attunement recharge: the current sykittenem seemkitteno be punising us for our class mechanics and that is not right. Arenanet wanted ukitteno have the right tools at the right time, how can we achieve that if we are locked out of tools for 15 secs.
If they want to buff of support on water cool, but they shouldn’t forget that they are 3 other attunementkittenhey should return to the original premise of making fire AoE damage and air high single target damage. And earth into a defensive based attunement and not simply a defensive attunement in trait points.
Reevaluate the CD, after cakitten. Jon talk about reducing the cd right before release and I think they completely forgot about the elementalikitten.
Either improve our hp or give us defensive skillkittenhat actually jukittenify our low hp. Right now our defensive skills are on an extremely high CD, yet the thief has a lot of built in defensive mechanics from kittenealth to evades on their skills. Currently, Auras don’t punish enough for attacking the ele, it should give the player a reason to avoid hitting aura ele, right now it doesn’t. Personally, adding confusing to auras will make sense.
I think the ele also need a weapon that complimentkittenhe scepter. Right now the current choices contradictkittenhe scepter or are jukitten bad. /D forces you to be in melee range to use the skills it offers very little at range and focus jukitten sucks.
conjures suck. Either make it a kit or don’t bother. Using conjusres in PvP takes away all the benefit of having 20 skills and replacekittenhem with bad low damage skillkittenhey should reward using them inkittenead of punishing the summoner.

I would agree with you, but I feel like as an elementalist, I deserve the right to QQQ about nerfs. I mean if you watch karl at gstar 2011 and compare the class mechanics to today’s, you gotta be able to QQ about that BS.

There was a time in balance when #1 skills across the board were said to be “too ineffective” by many players to be used. So we made an effort to bump them up and make them more impact-full on the game, so that they didn’t feel like a waste of the #1 slot. There was also a time when most skills had higher recharges, and longer activation times/aftercasts.
From much player feedback, we found that by lowering recharges and cast times, the game FELT better for the person using skills. But, as you guys have said, sometimes it feels like you aren’t punishing by making someone waste a long-cooldown skill, or you aren’t rewarded for interrupting a powerful skill because it comes back too quickly.
I guess non of these applied to the elementalist staff.

They just increased tremendously the skill floor for being average in this profession.
If they ever turned it back, we would become gods. Maybe that’s the purpose. Making life so hard for us so we could become divinities one glorious day.

I see how some my worry but I disagree. I think as long as the skills concept is kept intact then there’s nothing to worry about. I played World of Warcraft for 8 years before I came to Guild Wars 2, and I’m probably soon to give up on Guild Wars 2 the same reason I did World of Warcraft,
which is the Blantant favoritism of PvE over PvP. in World of Warcraft they balance skills around PvE and PvP’s issues where a second thought, this made tons of class imbalances due to the catering of Raiders, I’m not saying that they never did anything for PvP, but there’s a reason I came to GuildWars 2 to find PvP here. the only problem is I’m still looking for it
so I’m all for splitting skills more the merrier, just keep the initial concept of the skills intact
You should rpobably give up now, since Arenanet has always favor PvE except for the first few years gw1 was theorize and then after PvE became more successful to them than PvP they started focusing on PvE more, since it could be monetize more. The point being as long as game has both PVE and PvP, pvE will probably win more since it is generally bigger pop.

Preface: the players he fought are noobs, they lack the experienced. But it is good to look back at how the elementalist was before, the wonderful works at Arenanet decided to take the feedback of a bunch of inexperience players during the first BWE and start the downwards spiral of the class.
Notice the fast attunement swap. Everything else cannot speculate since I did not see the traits.

Attunement reduction should be based on your playstyle: 20 points in air = 20% air reduction on a 9s base cd, leaving arcana free to spec for boon duration and something else. A 20/20/10/30/0 build would basicaly give 7.2s/7.2s/8.1s/6.3s for each attunement.
Or take advantage of the fact that we already have long CD and turn arcane into a global skill CD reduction but cap it 20%, so it would be nice to have but not really needed.
remove attunement change CD. WE should be able to react and NOT get punished. The ele is all about having the right tools and yet we get punished if we want to use the right tools (jack of all fail).

d3 also sold 4+ times (9 months ago) the amount of copies than guild wars 2. Has a very different type of audience (some intersect).

They should remove rank from glory. Or at least separate hot join, solo qu and team arena. Or change rank to PvP level since rank implies more than it means.

ADD rewards that affect both PvE and PvP.
Make elementalist viable in PvP. An ele should not have to be 2 times better than his opponent for only 1/3 the result.
Also make turn Canada into a parking lot.

Probably for the same reasons there isn’t GvG or Guild halls. Because WvW is a free for all on a huge map and a healer running around by himself would be just as defenceless as a staff ele.
That is not true, the healer would propably be able to out healed the damage. And by the off chance that the healer encounters the staff ele, probably killed its kitten .
