Momentary Aside: Historically, some of the longest ranged bows in the real world have very short arms – the Mongolian cavalry bow. Likewise crossbows have longer ranges than something huge like a dai-kyu.
Materials used in construction has a LOT more to do with range than the length of the bowstring

but in general i think longbows have more range then shortbows
shortbows were really useful for fights on a horse and so very mobile.
while the longbow are very static with long range but hard with hard hitting arrows.

stronger attacks after a not hitting attack
get a slight amount of dmg back when our pet doesnt hitted our target
like here many player metioned our pets have sometimes problems hitting moving targets.
so we have less dmg outpet and cant gett the 100% of dmg a lot ranger talking about.
my idea would be that the pet gets some percent more dmg after every attack they couldnt hit.
for example: our wolf starts autoattacking our foe. the first dont hit and the pet gets a slight dmg buff ( like some stacks of the one bm trait, bloodlust, might, some percent more dmg). that stacks for every attack fail and when they hit one attack the dmg is way more harder but after that hit the buff is gone.
risks…coukd br a lot its just a idea that comes to my mind
not balanced buffs could make pets as strong like in bm times.

maybe intended attack failings via our control abilities could make one attack of our pets incredible strong hitting attacks
problems with removing/gaining the buff of pets
definition when it is a failing (foe is just moving out of range or dodges)
The Ranger isn’t expected to do burst damage. By sustained, we mean that the Ranger should excel at surviving (resilient) through burst while still doing enough damage over time to take the opponent down.
If we have to trade burst damage for surviving, can we at least get resilient without the need to trait to be tanky? Every other class can do that but better.
Anet nerfed ranger vigor, nerfed pets, nerfed shortbow, but we must excel at surviving……..
they nerfed our vigor…and the vigor of all other classes. so no reason to qq about it.

they nerfed our pets because they did hard crit dmg (stalker and birds) while we were settler tanks. that was unbalanced and needed to be changed. bm was kittening easy mode. yes oh yes imagine beastmaster… were op and the dmg the pet does were strong..we were strong…with our pets…do anyone gets the irony on this old meta regarding many posts here?
i dont know how the ideas for pet health buff in wvw were discussed. how should i in over 30 pages (anywhere summarizing posts?)
but there are many problems.
wvw is not only zerging and big battles. wvw is roaming, taking camps solo, fight other roamer.
should the pet gets +50% hp in general when we enter wvw? or just in zerg fights? when its a zerg fight? over 25 allies? foes? player? in which radius the players should be counted? what when we fought a pve mob the pet got dmg and then we get in a zerg fight? do we see how our pets gets a lot of hp back? what when we fight another roamer – a 1vs1? and the foe cant beat our pets when we are downed? what when we get downed in a big battle? sometimes the groups are too busy fighting and have no time to finish us. we press lick wounds and the pet heals us easily because they have enough health to tank it away? would that buff to the pets balanced? or not? is it worth it? is more health enough? what when we get the 50% buff and the pets die still? do the pets also needs more toughness/armor?
for us this questions could be easy but for anet that changes are a lot of work and maybe all this points let them think…no…or less then 50%
i cant understand why People like to permastow the pet with no buff.
Okay i am against the idea of permastow for a dmg buff, then no one would like to use his pet because that buff would be probably too strong and most rangers will only run the “Aura” of one pet because its the strongest.
But i can understand when they dont like to fight with the pet but kitten it then let the pet on passive what is the Problem?
A permastow is a nerf for themselfes, EB cant Trigger, random benefits like a knockdown and conditions on foe are gone. Even when the pet is on passive Body blocking of projectiles are a nice benefit
I think some ranger here are overdramatic.

Ferocity on Spotter
For Group Play is spotter really important and sometimes the only way to find a Group for dungeons.
But with the coming Critical Damage Changes it would be the Chance for ranger to be more important in Group Play outside the Spirits.
I dont know how the new formula will be but what about +150 Ferocity on Spotter?
There is no risk when the balancer add a balanced amount of ferocity to spotter.
I would suggest a Maximum of 5% crit dmg?
Pet mechanic
new Little window on pet bar
When the pet will activate the F2 is not easy to say, except we are able to see permanent what the pet is doing. I think what could help is a Little window in the pet bar that Shows the next attack of the pet. In the pet menu we can see Icons for the 3 normal attacks and a 4th Icon for the F2. The Icons should Flash like our Autoattack chains. With that Little Feature we are able to say more precise when our Special attack Triggers. Not only the F2! We can see when our pet trys to trigger the knockdown or the AoE poison field and so on. Its not the full control of our pet that we want, but with that we are able to time our Actions better with our pet.
That would be a great buff IMO with just a Little UI window!
here i cant say what the risk could be, it would be interesting if its even possible to implement this

the ranger have less Access to blind. Okay we have the sun Spirit and our birds, but the birds are random and the Spirit effect is just local and easy to evade.
Warhorn #4 would be good for it to apply some seconds of of blind. The Animation of the attack itself is really good for blind.

Access to torment OR confusion
improving shortbow
I think one of These conditions would be cool for the ranger.
I think the #4 shortbow could apply torment or the #5 shortbow some seconds confusion. Not both at same time.
Maybe with MoC we can get some seconds of confusion on stun or some stacks torment on predators instict, Just some ideas where we can get it
I just ask for one of them.
Its really easy for a ranger to stack bleed, poison and burn. With confusion AND torment it would be too strong, condition overload.

Making Torch more interesting for Powerbuilds
Currently the Torch is a condition based weapons. Thats okay, but i think with a Little rework a power build could use that weapon too.
My idea: make #4 a chain attack.
“Swallow the flame” – Gain X Stacks of might for some seconds/ one stack might per second
“Puke the Flame” – Apply some seconds of burn on ur foe
Maybe the combination of some stacks might with condition burn could be really strong

Able to get Access to the Combo field
Okay its very typical for a trap to Trigger when a foe steps into it. But i think it would be really helpful for the ranger when we can activate them by ourselfes. My idea: we placing the trap and like after activating the Spirits we see a new Icon. When we press the trap again they activate, even without a foe Walking into it.
This would be very helpful in WvW for stacking Might or frost Aura and various Combos outside the wvw
idk, maybe the Balance Team thinks it is too strong, but i think its okay.

Hey Allie i think ist very difficult to be more specific regarding to Play genre when we discuss about a Profession. The most here will talk about balancing and weapon/trait ideas.
And These ideas are for all regions of the game. So it is not useful to select if a longbow Change is in PvE or WvW.
of course it will happen that someone has balance ideas that would be probably really OP.
but i thi k it is important for anet that they read other minds of that ideas. otherwise we would had never saw the balance previews for october and december.
okay in real i think only ranked pvp players and experienced wvw commanders should have the right to discuss about balqnce suggestions instead of players who have less knowledge about balance.
when we just look to the class forum activity.
with 235 sites in ranger forum its one of the most active betweens the classes.
just necro and thief are so active too.
hundreds of ideas will come.
i think the best woukd be for ranger cdi strict themes we discuss
like
-pets (ai. attacks. use. superior pets. useless pets.)
-traits (synergy. traitlines with wrong traits. useless traits. important traits)
-weapons (viability. possible changes. synergy between weapons.)
-ranger ingame (wvw. pve. pvp. dungeons. team play.)
-other stuff
otherwise in the first two hours we will see three sites and more and we cant discuss because there are too many themes that we rangers like to discuss.

it is just that a lot rangers think anet hates rangers. Most of them just see the nerfs rangers got and not the buffs. They dont want to understand anet. U stated the pets are difficult to fix and they just keep saying “fix it NOW”. thats not fair and there is the difficulty.

we can apply Long immob Durations on foe too
Spiders, muddy Terrain and one of my favourite rune..Rune of the Grove. Dat random immob helped me a lot in pvp against thiefes…
Anyone noticed that it seems like getting immob debuff can Interrupt your skills? I was often get interrupted by using my heal just because a foe applyed it >.<

okay a slight dmg buff on axe mainhand would be okay i think, nevertheless is Axe mainhand a good choice.
Okay on lv 80 all 5 axes of splitblade are weaker then the AA, but do not Forget the bleed that makes it stronger.
And wintersbite is one of the strongest sustain skills the ranger has. We can apply 3s of chill, thats good, plus 10s weakness on 10s cd. Thats almost perma weakness when we do it right. Less dmg from foe and he cant dodge as often then without. Some People seem to underestimate that debuff. And yes we have the bear to apply weakness as AoE for 13s on 40s cd (untraited). But thats not as strong like the axe #3.
Okay warrior can apply perma weakness with mace too..but come one…its warrior he is too strong in general
no toby, izzy is not the reason for the Op´ness of warrior.
The balancing is about the two guys we can see in every Ready up stream.
And i think they like their warrior very well, as u can see in other streams ( “WARRIOR!!!”). For example the preview of the new heals.
And why should a dev, thats a normal Player too, like all skills in the game? Thats his personal opinion. A lot of rangers dont like the shouts.

The damage of offguards are good enough, maybe a bit too high.
I know a trait was suggested that a guard applys 1s immob on blend. I know thats not mobility, but u want mobility to chasing kiting foes and thats a good way.

ele will stronger then ever. they change attunements every 3s. with lets say 1s quickness they will have the most time quickness. this will lead to faster bursts.
guard: when the staff is really defensive then spirit weapon guards will be a new meta. now spirit weapon guards have less defense but with the staff it could be very strong.
ranger: stupid idea really. i hope thats fake when not anet listened to the QQ ranger community. with that elite beastmaster will be unkillable
thief: boring. good to defend a point in pvp.
war: right timed condi cleanse and the war has…okay i doesnt matter for him.

1) Warrior (too much of everything, slight corrections and i think he is balanced)
2) PU Mesmer ( defensive of enorm condi dmg and dmg of phantasms is too much)
3) Ranger ( Ranger is not as bad as everyone thinks, just some synergy between skills, effects and traits would be cool )
i would suggest wait a bit for new legendarys
collect the t6 and everything else needed but the specific gifts..just wait

I read just read weak arguments. The only one is “Pet mechanic (30% of our dmg) is broken”. Anet said how the state is, Prysin told us what would happen if pets acts like intelligent Players.
One strong Thing that would help the ranger is my suggested Little window to Display the next pet attacks. With that help we can time our F2 and when it Needs to Long then it was our mistake because we didnt catched the right Moment.

look at guard autoattack of cepter. the orbs are so slow that we can evade them in900 range.
Signets are strong what r u talking about. when ur cd is too long then use sigbet mastery for 20% less. i tould u the state but as i said some people r blinded.
it seems like that a lot of rangers want to be a victim. they see their role as a absolute underdog and shout for compassion.
we have signet of renewal why no one sees that skill? when u watch ur pet u have a full cleanse.
what this skill could need is a tooltip of range.

most suggestions i read in all forums for ranger (ofc not all!) were too strong. EB and BS at same time. Active effects of Signets for rangera without traiting. Enlargement gives u 75% more dmg.
maybe we dont get buffs because the balance team have the feeling we do not know what “balance” is?

I just had a random idea.
What about making Torch #4 a bit cooler?
I remember an old guild mate who thought that we dont throw our torch to the foe, but spit it like a flame spitter (right Translation? xD).
I think that would be cool if we merge it with a buff.
My idea is like that

It just Comes to my mind to make Torch more viable for Power builds.

Some People are just blinded and think rangers are UP and suggest stuff to “Balance” the ranger that would make him too OP

Omg yes we Need to put 30 to use the active effects, but our active effects are much stronger then the most other Signets! See the whole Picture urdriel!
The most Signets of the other classes apply a stun or some conditions, or give allies some boons. Less Signets are comparable with a 6s invuln, 8s Stability PLUS 25% more dmg of u AND our pet, a full condi clean with that we could cure (in theory) the conditions of 10 allies and a much stronger attack.
Thats why we Need to invest a lot of more traitpoints!

We cant Change it now, what we can do except the very helpful “fix it anet or gtfo” is to tell them what could help. I suggested a Little window that Shows the attack Icons to see the next attacks of our pet, that would help
