The build did absolutely nothing in the fire shaman fight. Anchor might be useful for some fights. But certainly not fire shaman.
Still don’t get why you’re comparing AH to BP though which serve completely different functions outside of anchor.
Because anchor is the only thing of importance the build is doing?
Try for example joining a pug Arah p1/2 "speed’ (no such thing in pugs, what they usually mean is stealth run) as a Necromancer or Ranger. Try the same on fractal 50.
I mean, I have done this repeatedly daily in Arah and Fractals L50 for over 2 years. The fact is, I’ve never been kicked from a group that hasn’t explicitly advertised “no necros” as a necro. I do get the “you’re not condi, right?” a bunch, but all I have to do is ping my weapon set and they’re fine. The biggest thing that has kept me from getting kicked is that I talk to people. Be a cool person and people will be more relaxed around you. It doesn’t hurt if you can solo half the bosses on your Necro to boot.
If there is a “fear climate” for dungeons and fractals, I surely haven’t seen it, and I’ve seen enough to feel pretty confident in saying that means it’s not out there. If you don’t read the LFG or aren’t very good at playing the game, obviously your mileage will vary.
This is so true. Ive joined pugs on the necro before plenty of times. And you can tell people tense up. As soon as you start talking they relax. Even had cases where we were able to joke about the class right after i joined.
But i will say EU does have a problem with ignorant and inflexible people. I joined an AC group as ele and got immediately kicked because they wanted a warrior. I even stated ele would be better as soon as i joined.

At least a few of us don’t even want most of the general GW2 community because so many of them think they can walk right in with the same open world leeching lootstick mindset and get instant rewards.
The fact that they can go right back to open world loot pinatas is what keeps them from wanting the improve or seriously get into dungeon content.
Differences in completion times are not that insignificant, and it would be irrelevant to us even if they were. We don’t have fun when we are play with those sorts of people.
“Those sort of people” is just the kind of language that even keeps them from wanting to improve and try to join the dungeon community. You don’t even know them and you’ve already condemned them with your assumptions.
Coming from someone who just accused a generalised group of people of treating others as subhuman…..
If someone wants to test they are free to. But you can do the exact same thing with earth elementals so its kind of irrelevant if you are trying to find which is faster.
Yes lets all go back to strifes 3 warrior, 1 mesmer and 1 AH guardian meta!
Back when ruby orbs reigned supreme!
Yeah somehow i dont think its an oversight. The skill has limits so he doesnt spawn 9000 wolves and make the fight impossible. Ironically this reminds me of TAFU. Infinite spider spawns say hello!
I will admit the standard mob aggro range and the arena size is an oversight in this case.
I know its a terrible thing to use knowledge to counter an enemies skill design.
Were terrible people for walling lupi. But at the same time everyones an awful person for meleeing to make the auto attack miss. And all those pugs who range in phase 1 and 2 are the worst because he doesnt use kick or swipe!

Plus a lot of these berk guardians know full well in their solos/duo/trio they are bugging the boss at the bridge.
Lol.
Since you seem to know so much about this game, care to elaborate on how the “berk guardians” are bugging him then?
You’re right. It’s just a quirk of the encounter that every solo video happens to take place at that bridge. Nothing changes about it.
Its not a bug. And you can do the same thing anywhere in the arena. The bridge is just one of the nicer spots to fight him at.
Assassin is slightly better for some classes in dungeons and regular open world though.
Which ones?
(I’m not sarcastic or anything, I really like to know that)
Mesmer, engi and necro. I believe guardian in some situations or at least zerk/assassin mix. Although not sure about guardian so dont quote me on that.
Some of those look pretty expensive.
In reality they are all cheap knock offs.
Zerk is generally most used for PvE yet is completly usless against Teq.
Wrong. Its the best for Teq aswell. You still have power mainstat. And you do more damage during the defend phase or if you are on turret defence duty.
Assassin is slightly better for some classes in dungeons and regular open world though.
Depends on the party composition. But i would expect if you made the guard wear clerics instead of berserker in a 3 ele, 1 war, 1 guard. The time difference would probably be very small. However with that composition just using hammer guard is enough to completely lock down mossman. And if thats not enough you can chain earth/ice elementals.
Its not really about the time difference though. Its about difficulty.

Oh look a 6k free heal for eles. ;>

The advantages of 3/4 ele fractal groups.
Well what they have said in recent interviews made sense. Its very difficult to create good encounters before you know how players will use the combat system. They now know how their system works thanks to us. So they have a better idea of how to create engaging encounters which utilitise more facets of their combat system.
I have confidence the encounters will be a huge improvement from the base game. But im skeptical whether they will be truly challenging enough to satisfy those of us in elite guilds.
Approved. Nice job. :>
Approved.
No but you can if you want to.
Changing gear type is forcing us completely. Id be seriously kittened off if i cant wear any of my 3 ascended sets on my necro. Not to mention i like my light armour skins. Besides whatever the spec gives us theres only 2 types of damage in this game. Condi or power. So im not going to need a new set unless we are forced to wear heavy.
Thankfully its such a bad idea i dont even need to worry about it. Theres no way anet would make such a stupid feature for specialisations. Even by their standards its bad.

I have no idea what you are trying to say.
We should encourage pugs to do stuff like this more. Then maybe they wont complain about the meta every 5 seconds.
I think they could give us some information. For example, people seem to be assuming it will be released “when it’s ready”, but is that actually true? Could the patch be released any minute, as soon as they finish, or will it be going into a Tuesday slot?
Plus, they said it was QA, which means that it isn’t just a fix they’re doing but testing. That means they know at least a minimal amount of testing that needs doing. They might not be able to say “This will be ready in ten days”, but they should be able to say “This will take at least a few more days, stop waiting”.
There are absolutely limits of what information it is possible to give. But there is a huge gulf between that and the information ANet’s current policy actually produces.
They cant give more details. QA testing can lead to discovering further issues that need to be fixed. Which would result in further QA testing after the fixes. The whole process is repeated until it is in an acceptible state to release. Giving an estimate might be a bad move if they miss it completely. Which is highly possible.
Not really. It forces us to re-gear. Thus invalidating our gear progression. Something they have said they are against.
I dont agree with just one shot mechanics. Making things excessively unforgiving isnt the ideal way to make things challenging. Yes it keeps you on your toes. But it also really kittenes you off if you lag or get trolled by RNG (thief/ele on lupi p2->p3 transition).
More attacks. Yes. Make attacks hit hard. Yes. Make them one shot. No. Non timegated combat puzzle mechanics and phases(archy seals). Yes please.
Multi boss fights are also fun (molten duo). And bosses which spawn waves of adds can also be good. Also you can give bosses interruptible attacks which strip boons/cleanse conditions/grant buffs/heal themselves.

Doesnt really speed it up seeing as you still have to wait for Jade maw to charge each crystal. If you kill things you should always have spare crystals for every laser.
Its unbearable on 50 unless you lifesteal though. :<
Yeah you really need to wait till the second phase. And even then if you go overboard and damage him too much it can still bug.
The teleport stuff might only be relevant to the chinese client.
And its difficult to understand what exactly they mean by changes to teleports.
The same way they did it in fractals?
Just add larger skill pools and more complex mechanics. Love how people think holy trinity is needed for challenging content. How small minded can you be?
There is an even simpler fix. Boost Jade Maws health to that of regular bosses and scale up the crystal damage. But i really hope they dont do that. It was bad enough when they fixed killing tentacles from doing damage to Jade Maw.
Dark fields can be used in pretty non specific places. I usually use them right next to the corner tentacle.
For the sigil you kind of need to be standing up on the ledge underneath maws head. And i believe you need atleast 900 range. Ive tried sigil and lifesteal traits with necro axe and it doesnt work (might be because its non projectile and out of range). However scepter necro can hit maw with both the auto attack for lifesteal trait procs and with the sigil.
Also when you do these you need to have jade maw targeted. I would think that would be obvious. But it might be why you see it not working some of the time.
ps. Im kind of hoping for more uses for lifesteal in HoT (even if they arent intended by the devs). For example low hp mobs with high armour or invuln phases.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Its slower than using dark fields.
Its like the only legitimately good use for lifesteal in PvE. So i think it would be pretty silly to say its an exploit. Its certainly not cheating. You are using mechanics within the game after all.
Also why have people suddenly changed the topic to something completely unrelated. This thread was about Lich comparison to other forms of dps.
If you get hit in those situations the meagre sustain lifesteal gives is not going to help much. You are better off focusing on damage and just learning to dodge properly.
Mai Trin is the only place where lifesteal could be worthwhile. But you are going to die if you try to outsustain her auto attack. And you should be dodging the pistol spin and DS absorbing or dodge jump/dark path/spectral walk avoiding the killshot.
Standing directly between horrik and his giant red circle is something you shouldnt do. Its a projectile so it will hit you on the way.
It always takes ages on Jade Maw. It seems the teammates you had didnt have a clue. You get a daily chest for each tier once per day. So 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 etc.
They were asked in one of the interviews (dont remember which one) and they said they dont know. They are discussing all possibilities apparently. I severely doubt they will restrict it simply because it will cause some major outrage to many players.
If it is restricted then i know it will certainly kill my motivation to level a rev. I will probably wait until the restriction disappears if they implement one.

The bad player arguement doesnt really hold up.
Say you take 40 hours to level to 80 the hard way. You have 40 hours of revenant experience where you didnt have access to all skills and traits.
Whereas i instant level to 80 and play 40 hours of revenant gameplay on a full equipped character.
Who do you think will have a better grasp of the class?
The one who did the hard way ofc..
it’s way too obvious..the hard way really improves you with basic core class mechanics and improve your understand of the class.
then the ones who get all the fancy stuff from the beginning.
I really dont see how you came to that conclusion. The time spent on the class is the same. So the player who has been able to use everything right from the beginning should know more. Assuming they do actually pay a minimum amount of attention to skills and traits they use.
And lets be honest. Players who dont read skills or pay attention to what they are doing wont learn anything even if they level the hard way…..
(edited by spoj.9672)
GW2 focus isnt on the journey though. The leveling experience is unimportant. Its much easier to level than other MMO’s but its also still very boring for veteran players. GW2 isnt supposed to be a grindy game. And one of the aspects that supports that is the leveling system. The fact that anet even introduced lvl 20 scrolls and lvl up tomes proves they dont feel the leveling experience is that important.
We will still have to do some map completion once we hit 80. Its not like we can completely skip everything.
I dont know 90% of people on my followers list.
Soloing lupi is one of the first things i intend to do with my instant lvl 80 Revenant.
Well from a PvE perspective Engi rotations are far more complex than Ele rotations.
Its not the amount of skills. But the order and how you have to kit swap constantly. With ele its really just cycling through attunements in a set order. Engi is a bit more confusing.
That said. If you can stomach it then its worth learning. I dont really know about engi in PvP but it should be easier as Bhawb said. Still i think its worthwhile to learn everything about a class even if only using it in one gametype.

Removing tiers and adding voting between 2 maps would alleviate length problems in most cases. But it would also be cool to be able to save progress somehow.
Regular swaps do not interrupt the auto attack.
I have all that off aswell. And it keeps auto attacking. Entering/exiting DS is the only time it breaks.

I remember reading it in a casual interview or it might have been on one of their streams. Possibly a dev post. Too long ago to remember where i saw it. But i have confidence in what i remember.
You should know by now that anet never say they will never do something. Thats a pretty silly statement for a business to make. And anet are incredibly careful with those kinds of things.
As far as I remember they were quite adamant about the losing Fractal never being made.
I remember reading that aswell but i remember it slightly differently. I believe they said it will definitely not be under development at the current time. Essentially they stated they hadnt started either fractal and they would only be working on the winner. And had no plans to make the other. That doesnt mean they cant make plans for it later.
Never say never.
(edited by spoj.9672)
They did say that its something we may get it in the distant future. Basically its not off the table.
If you think about it. They must already have an idea about it. So if they ever need ideas for new fractals then i expect that to be one of them. And just because we voted Kiel doesnt mean we cant have it. We voted for further research into a certain area. Theres nothing to say we cant research the other direction later down the line.

3 Ele
1 Thief
1 Warrior/Guard
Or 5 Eles
To be honest this has always bothered me about DS. Ive just always worked around it.
Also we still dont have lich auto saving.
In fairness why would they think to test bringing an item from the end of a dungeon back to an optional boss that they had already passed?
Most players certainly wouldnt do it. Hence why we only see it publicly now after 3 years.
Wow. I know this is the necro subforum but… dat_necro
