Longbow 1 on ranger has broken-ness trumped here. It’s actual time is double it’s tooltip, and it’s slow enough that nobody should ever be hit by it. Oh, yeah, it’s damage falls dramatically as baddies close.
I’ll grant scepter second place though.
Seems like Drake + Guard + Sig of Stone would be a pretty dang durable, especially on a healing-power beastmaster. As I recall, you can still send pets down from walls in WvW using Guard. I could see a bunch of drakes being used to quickly take out enemy siege such as catapults now.
You haven’t been able to move pets down from walls with guard for a while now – at least, it stopped working for me ages ago.
Hear that? It’s the point of slingblade’s message flying over your head. For what its worth, someday, I bet birds will be able to scale. Even of that doesn’t happen, I mean, dude, that was cheesy and you know it.
What point? (S)He said that guard still functioned that way (reading comprehension ftw) I pointed out it doesn’t.
You know what? Make ’em PvE for them. Map completion requires anyone who wants that 100% (regardless of wanting a legendary or not) to be active in WvW.
If I can bring myself to join the battle every single day I play, when I don’t really enjoy it much, on the off chance I’ll get a bit more of my map, a “Hard Core” WvW player can sacrafice the 30 minutes a day it takes to get your daily laurel.
@Linnes
Hate to nitpick, but rapid fire hits for well over 10k, without going in for a ’zerker set. (I run PVT gear with runes of the ranger, and regularly see it hit 12-16k in wvwvw.)
I like the idea of sharing AoE damage with the ranger, as opposed to how it is now.
Instant F2 response would be golden.
You’re asking for too much love to hunter’s call as well.
Bleed duration on Crossfire is fine right now – just remove the flanking requirement. Like the AoE poison field though.
Spirits should be like banners – not targetable nor killable. Problem solved.
Rampage as one – I didn’t realise it didn’t last through pet swap – I’m good with the recharge, just add pet swap. (Do this for master’s bond as well – it should only end on pet death.)
U need a gun, I have found that without a gun warriors suck bad, you will forever get kited to no end, I use a great sword and a gun, as soon as I start to get kited I don’t waste my time I start shooting.
Also glass build don’t work for warrior it’s to hard to land your burst ,spec 10/0/30/30/0 full shout build with soldier runes, that way you have 4 condition wipes with the passive shake it off trait.
I have not lost a single 1v1 sense speccing this way, your damage isn’t as burst-y but you still hit a lot harder then any guardian spec even zerker guardians and you have more passive healing then they do, the effective health with this spec is around 60k more then pretty much any other class, the only class that has more is a bunker nerco.
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcRM0o9coaRNmoaRNma0xx0V0RbMkb
In the defense tree use the new trait that reduces movement effects by 33% with the passive regen, the last trait you can use endure pain but I like spiked armor for more anti-kiting power.Over all you will not lose any 1v1, the key is never to use your shouts on junk conditions use them on poisons (healing nerf) and heavy bleeds (more then 5 stacks), remember as soon as the kiting starts you start shooting, if they come close, back to greatsword, it’s as simple that.
Your hardest fights will good nerco bunkers and guardians, sometimes sword/dagger bunker rangers but other then that you should be able to wipe almost all the bad conditions and regen your health passively to counter and auto damage.
I like how your mind works.
I’d much prefer if the warrior community can come together and have a real, thorough, and balanced discussion about improving our profession, things that we can agree can be toned down, and things we can agree can be buffed up.
I’m probably expecting too much from the internet, though.
Start with nerfing 100 Blades so the PvE side of community loses its bias that warriors are OP.
That skill is going to hold us back from balance just as much as lazy developers.
Yes, it will – though the leaf’s will win the cup before most of the forums agree that the damage on it is OP.

Yes, yes you are.
I’d be game, but most of the forums would hate me. Outside of PvP, I’ve never had a problem with warrior. In WvW, if you don’t Leeroy into a zerg, you shouldn’t have an issue. In PvE, well, if you’re having problems with PvE, there’s not much I can say to you.
Personally, I’m not sure what all I’d change – other than replacing GS 5 with something that works. Cloning the Ranger’s “Swoop” would be cool.
Given the classes I play, I’m more invested in getting a Staff buff for ele’s, and having them fix the Longbow for rangers.
My warrior exists primarily to farm CoF1, or to frontline in WvW. If I were interested in t/spvp, I could see having more ideas.
Personally, given the pets available, I’d say that bears are the only other candidate for a “cleave” function. Have any of you seen an angry bear in real life? Hands down the scariest critter in north america, when it’s feeling uppity.

Really, the only changes worth mentioning as good are the pet health increase and the signet buff – which only applies if you happen to run a fairly high BM spec and/or signets.
The internal CD on skills/traits is just rude.
Never did bother with S&R, because it never seemed to work anyway – kind of like lick wounds – I can count on the fingers of one foot how many times it’s actually worked for me. (Still say lick wounds should be changed to “companion’s sacrifice: If your animal companion is alive, it sacrifices itself and you rally in its location.”)
Longbow still desperately needs tweaks – mostly making long range shot’s damage static, making it’s activation time match it’s bloody description (right now it takes 1.75 seconds to repeat, instead of the tooltip time) and increasing arrow flight-speed by 50-100%.
Still, better than nothing.
over react much?
Look guys, if you so desperately want to fight 1v1, buy mortal kombat or something – leave those of us who want to play the game without the mess that WoW has with nerdrage in peace.
If you feel you MUST have dueling in game, maybe try get them to add specific spots – the arenanet ring in LA comes to mind. Or the various training pits in seraph/bandit camps.
The response is these threads if fairly standard – the bulk of us don’t want to even have to see the requests from folks, nonetheless have to deal with groups of duelers hanging about waypoints or other places.
There’s an entire style of games for people who like these features, and I truly don’t understand why you’re so desperate to have it introduced to this one.
PvP is ONLY the S/Tpvp.
To Anet, WvWvW is PvE.
Reef Drake, Jaguar, Wolf and Melandru Stalker all do – consistently, 20:20 attempts with each one.
You get aggro (any attack works) and then hit F1, your pet will run behind whatever you’re thumping on, and start eating it’s backside.
I’ll test a few other pets, but those are the ones I use the most.
Really , so if gw2 add pk style u all have a special heart attack?
The pve players , are only a base of hellokity games nothing more.
1) all u do is pve , cause u cant pvp another one, why? u are afraid and a terrible pvp player.
2) The pve players never want to do pvp , cause they skill play is terrible they only want to figths mobs , cause mobs cant think really and vs another player they fell inferior.
Look the ultimate example of what my last post was – someone who wants to troll and grief, and believes it’s only fun if it’s his way.
Go buy mortal kombat if that’s what you’re after, kemosabe.
Like the 2000 mount threads, most of them where ANet themselves have said no, this is probably the 5000th bloody world duel thread where people want to be uber griefers.
No.
That’s no, nein, negative, not in a thousand years.
Having a place in the mists you can duel 1v1? No problem. When you boil away the chatter in these threads though, every single one amounts to “I want to be able to troll noobs and abuse people without the same experience I have, to stroke my kitten.”
So, again, no.
Strange, without posting, it wouldn’t let me view page 1.
The QQ is because the updates didn’t really hurt the D/D bunker at all, but they did hurt the staff ele and the S/D players.
Granted, anyone slinging D/D and crying deserves a brick upside their head.
So much meh. The only things we got that seem worthwhile are the glyph love and the signet boost.
Still nothing to help staff.
Going to shelve the ele for a while. Wipe the dust off my warrior. (who received nothing but buffs for the 5th straight update).
Yep – I never ran it before, and I will most certainly never run it now. Go look at the warrior updates, then ours. Then go smash our head against a wall. Whee!
Not that I’m not grateful for what we did get, but compared to the continued wammo love, I’m feeling like a redheaded step-child.
Dude, guardians were never invincible – just had advantages to make up for having 10k base hp, and about 15k traited. Boon hate sucks balls, and warriors got a bunch of love this patch.
Most powerful (outside of pvp) class gets more powerful, everyone else stays the same. Whee.
Lol rifle warriors get another buff (Far superior to bow rangers, which is kinda sad) and Frenzy is losing it’s downside.
3 completely unblockable attacks.
Great day to be a warrior.
Also, I don’t think anyone’s gonna roll a boon hate build (I still hate the mechanic, but whatever.)
I love how most of the inexperienced players cry about this. They go oh noes Im going to be hundred bladed to death now OMG. LMFAO
Simple reply to this is no. HB is terrible without Frenzy. Frenzy has been nerfed, ON first it take about 4 seconds to get a un hasted hundred blades off. Thats a long time. Also there is no way you will get hit by all 8 hits unless you are afk. 2ndly the only CC that a warrior has that lasts almost that long is throw bolas and its an immobilize. And it never works almost. You think you cant get out of immobilize ur kidding me.
This is my example of you guys. OMG that warrior is going to bull charge me haste the hundred blade me and becasue he is doing 10% more damage cuz of my buffs im going to die. Seriously learn to play already. Im sorry.
3-10% more damage is nothing. Most people know that food increases damage that much or more depending on the food. Sigils increase it by 10% if it is night time, or 5% or whatever. What you should be really complaining about is the unblockable signet that is your down fall not the boon hate. But like I said your inexperienced.
First off, please don’t assume that everyone hates an unreasonably mechanic is a noob.
Second, if it’s the proposed 3% damage per boon, that makes it entirely possible to nail someone for 27% more damage with an attack. Since warriors already have the highest attack numbers in the entire game, this seems a touch excessive.
Lastly, coupled with the proposed unblockable attacks, this introduces the possibility of some of the tankiest builds in the game being taken down with 2-3 attacks.
That addresses your post. Now, for my concern, as voiced repeatedly in the thread – I’m not worried that it’ll make warriors OP (though it has that potential) what I dislike is introducing something that targets other classes core mechanics.
Ranger should not die to a warrior in 1v1 (except maybe a glass build). It happens, but it’s only going to be if the ranger makes some serious kiting mistakes or poor pet choices.
All things being equal, I agree with that statement. Both from a Ranger, and Warrior point of view.
Playing both classes myself, I take the opposite side – cripple the pet, close on the ranger. (specifically bow wielding rangers.)
I’d guess about 60% of what I face for rangers in wvwvw right now are the shadowcat build, and once you can get ahead of the pet, it’s already over – they can’t evade enough to avoid being toast.
That regen bunker build is somewhat different – I try to spec balanced, and don’t have enough dps to keep them down before the zerg comes by and wipes me. (or him.)
First one is censored, and that alone gets a giggle from me. 7/10
Second evokes thoughts of bad blacksploitation pron – 2/10.
Ele is Warden Blackstaff
Ranger is Jareth Kincaid
you said it well but you lost on the way: cantrips are not too strong, they are simply well thought and implemented by developers.
Instead of nerfing what’s well done, just make everything else on par with this.
This is what should have been done – but it’d be “power creep” and if you’re not a warrior or thief, you’re not allowed to have that.
The biggest problem with the proposed nerf (lacking any other information about it) is that it’s going to murder staff ele’s, hinder S/D ele’s, and barely slow down the D/D spec.
Since anyone with any honesty knows that D/D has WAY too much going for it, a nerf to D/D should have been expected. I was thinking they’d seriously hit the healing power scaling on the dagger skills – but hey, I want other viable builds, not just bunkers.
Since I try to play staff, the RtL nerf doesn’t matter squat to me. Taking away my one viable way to get a heal in without worrying about being smacked about is kind of upsetting.
I’m hoping some dev somewhere read my thread for staff buffs, and decided to implement at least some of them. If I can’t heal when they close, nor safely keep protection up, let me at least have a chance of killing them before they rip my face off.
I’ve got nothing for conjures – the only ones i use are FGS for movement, and frost bow, for AC. Otherwise, there are far more valuable things to put onto my bar.
Again, I’ll say that I’m good with complete boon negation. Give each class one (that’s one – 1 – a single and solitary) skill that removes all boons from a single target.
If the skill names aren’t being used already;
Warriors can have “Skull Crack” 300 range.
Ele’s get “Mind Shock” 1200 range
Mesmer gets “Panic” 1200 range
Necromancers “Rend Enchantment” 1200 range
Guardian “Banish” 900 range
Ranger “Magebane Shot” 1200 range
Thief “Aura of Displacement” 300 range
Engineer “Dissonance Philtre” whatever grenade range is. (assume 1200, too lazy to open another tab and check)
Each skill has a variation of “Remove all boons from target” cast time 1.25, recharge 60. Make them a skill type that has a traited recharge reduction; ie survival for rangers, meditation for guardians, cantrip for ele, etc.
Gives everyone a fair shot at killing boons, without punishing classes/characters that use them. I’m more comfortable with facing “Crap, where did all my boons go?” then facing “What just killed me THROUGH aegis?”
EDIT: added what seemed to be class appropriate ranges to the skills.

Problem is, if people used the SEARCH function (i know, i know, it’s complex) the earlier threads had many definitive no’s in them. Then, people kept making thread after thread, and it gets lost in the noise.
The first hard no i remember was in beta, for crying out loud.
Oberon – I’ve been playing around with the build and have to say, as longbow builds go, this is the one to use.
63 badges since my last comment on this thread. The only ranger build I’ve played that does comparable damage in a wvwvw setting is the catmaster, and to me, this one feels more fun.
Changes in how I’m rocking it vs what’s posted as the build – PVT armour with runes of the ranger (it’s what I had) ‘zerker weapons and trinkets, and I pulled 5 from marksman for wilderness survival (just didn’t feel right without my endurance regen.)
so, 25/25/5/10/5 instead of the suggested 30/25/5/10/5. Works for me, and I’ll admit to being surprised at how well.
Still not a huge fan of the longbow (anyone really paying attention can avoid being hit) but the build does what it claims to.
just want to point out, for pve/wvw, gw2buildcraft.com is a far better editor than the one you’re using. once I run the conversion, so I can see honest gear numbers, I may have an opinion on the build.
it’s censored because is an arsearseination build. which is what I currently run. (wish they’d get off their backside and fix longbow…)
i mostly play my ranger in WvW, and laugh when someone views me as a ‘free kill’
Then good on you – you’ve found the magic stats to do damage that the other 99%+ of rangers, including everyone posting on the forums, hasn’t yet.
The sad truth is that warrior ranged damage is far superior to rangers, as is warrior/thief/guardian melee. The only thing we have going for us is a regen build that provides insane healing, or the beastmaster build. Or, you’re hiding behind a zerg, raining death on people who don’t even know you’re there.
If you were to play a bow ranger, and cross paths with a halfway competent thief or warrior, you are, indeed, a free kill. They can close to melee range long before there’s a hope of you dishing out enough damage to down them. (at least, anyone who has the wit to slow up a pet then close and kill will down you – I KNOW there’s a lot of witless wonders in wvwvw.)
You’re complaining about your damage, then compare your tanky/balanced guardian to a pure DPS warrior damage with no survivability at all? I mean, I’m currently running a balanced PVT/Knights mix Hammer warrior and I do around that much (2k-2500 crits) but with nowhere near guardian sustainability or survivability.
EDIT: referring to pvp here.
I am not referring to pvp. Nowhere in the forums am I referring to pvp. Outside of the small group who actively participates in the s/tpvp, nobody ever is.
I do hope Anet pulls their thumbs out and splits the skills like they did in GW1, so that the extremely vocal minority can have all the nerfs they want, without breaking the other 80% of the game.
1200 range knockback on gust would be extremely op. I would be fine with it as is, just make it easier to land.
Giving the squishiest class in game a range maker that actually forces the enemy out to max range is OP?
Remember, ele’s can’t weapon swap in combat, and have no melee utility on staff.
Or possibly you’re still content with the idea of rolling full bunker, and dropping all your AoE at your feet, then running away. My goal is to make ranged combat viable for one of the two classes that ought to be good at it, but aren’t.
i see more thieves and mesmers in wvw than any other class… its funny because they’re normally such bad players
… ive also seen an increase in the number of rangers… though cant say why
Betcha the rangers are playing the kittenin build (all BM, all the time) or the massive regen bunker build. If they’re slinging bows, view ’em as a free kill.
@Stale:
It really doesn’t take that long to get ascended gear in this game, and as it is the highest stat you can achieve I think its only logical to assume people will at least TRY to get it. Once you get to fractal lvl10 it is a maximum of 20days (less if you luck out and get the ascended ring as a drop) to get your two ascended rings. You can get your ascended amulet within a month, and provided you are in a decently equipped guild you can get both your earrings in 2 months (getting 3 guild commendations a week). In the scheme of things that really isn’t that long, considering it would take ~40min a day (on those 20days) to run your daily fractal, you get laurels by playing the game anyway, and perhaps another 20-40min a week for the guild activities to get the commendation.
Humour me – I know that of my guild and friend list, most of them have, at best, 2 ascended items. I personally have 4 (but 3 are dupes, go figure). Also, accept that the folks on the forums are the outliers – we’re the ones who play the most, and are most likely to grind out max gear. (Insert obligatory rant about Anet lying to us, and no gear treadmill, rageragerage.)
The bulk of the playerbase gets by with exotic – I know some people who get by with rare stuff. Making builds with numbers that reflect what you’re most likely to find in game (especially once you start swapping builds regularly) strikes me as realistic.
It also avoids falsely inflated numbers. I don’t really think anyone is going to spend a month or more grinding gear to try out a build.
EDIT: I didn’t mean humour me in your build creation, but rather for the duration of the post, to see if you get my point.
(edited by stale.9785)
I see nothing wrong in wanting to expose fur patterns and Sylvari glow…nor do I find it embarrassing and offensive. Plants and fur…quite alright. Perhaps expanding cultural armors for these races would solve the problem? Because I can only see Sylvari in plant-like armor (most fitting).
As for Humans and Norn…I think female Norn have quite a laaaarge variety of revealing armor…as well as female Humans…and it can be offensive towards certain people.
As kmaeropa said, GW1 armors were very form fitting and weren’t offensive nor were they tasteless. The only armor set which bugged me a lot was the Necro tattoo set, since she was in nothing else but underwear with tattoos (but so was the male). So I can freely say that GW1 armor sets were more than well balanced.
The monk set was the same deal. It never bothered me. Skin or covered makes little difference. My earlier judgement for the thread was purely based upon the behaviour (tone, if you’d prefer) of the posters.
One side wanted options, the other side seems to think that the ones who want options are mentally damaged. (Misogynist was the most polite term. Morally lacking, perverted, “drooling, sweaty teenagers”, pretty sure, for the uptight crowd, there’s something about judging not, lest you yourself… nah… wasted effort.)
My attitude is that more variety, even the skimpy type, is good. Add lots of choices, and see where people’s taste leads them. (It’s a foregone conclusion, btw. Aversion to skin is learned – even babies have been proven to prefer skin or very bright colours. Plain covering is for prudes, and god-botherers. Biology will trump prudery each and every time.)
I’ll live by your rules in your home, you can live by your rules in my home, but don’t you dare presume to tell me to live by your rules while in my own home.
I don’t really care what they do in the end as long as they do something. I want direct control over my pets movement/placement/pathing and abilities plus pets that are capable of damaging people on walls and from walls, or the ability to make a build that stows the pet and acts alone, or the pet to be revamped to be more passive in nature, or anything else that gives me full control over my damage output.
If it makes the ranger an uber micro class, that is tough for new players to master, so be it. At least there would be an incentive to master it.
As is now, the pet is fine in most PvE and is stellar in sPvP. It a detriment, a handicap to our ability to function, in anything more than a very small encounter in WvW, and WvW is not about small encounters now is it.
Don’t forget that the pet is an outright liability in dungeons.
And, for all that someone doubted the numbers, if you take a warrior, sans traits and gear, and a ranger, sans traits and gear, the numbers are blatant. Pets are roughly 40% of our dps. This has been tested, repeatedly – it’s not just a number ranger players made up to make us feel better about why we deal no frigging damage when compared to warrior/guardian/thieves.
40% damage boost, eh?
Please go to the mists with a warrior and a ranger, each with a greatsword. Just auto-attack the dummy. The ranger won’t be 40% behind the warrior. Maybe 25% at worst.
Now throw a cat pet into there. The ranger will beat out the warrior on dps.
20% reduced damage?
So that I could have 53% reduction after a dodge roll? 83% if also at 25% or lower hp (barskin)? And that’s before factoring in reductions from me wearing gear with toughness on it and the 300 toughness from WS … and I can still regenerate over 500 hp/sec?That’s OP.
I do not want the Ranger to become the next Thief class. I appreciate that people acknowledge the player when they see a Ranger do well as they know it isn’t the class making things easy for them (like Guardian everywhere and Thief in PvP).
As Deus Ex Tree once said to me when we were just chatting about the class <paraphrase> Ranger doesn’t have the teleport, stealth, nor clones of other classes to help it cope with making mistakes </paraphrase>
I heartily agree. When I make a mistake on my Mesmer, I have my clones, blink (a teleport), and illusions to cover my tail as I try to hightail it out of there to recover or completely reset the fight. If I am in one of my near-perm swiftness builds, escape is trivial against anything that isn’t an ele, warrior, or thief. Then I just have to juke very well.
Repeat the test with longbow, and you’ll outdo us by more than 40% without a pet. Change yourself to a rifle, and we may as well log out, without testing.
jkctmc,
Wow! that video you posted, is quite Amazing of a Warrior using a Range rifle hitting “33k Kill Shot in WvW”.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-H1zpdg7dUNow imagine if a Ranger was hitting 33k Kill shot in WvW, they would’ve been severely nerfed in a heartbeat, yet it is ok for a warrior?
Not only the warrior is King of Melee, they are King of Range weapons as well, what a joke.
We should be King of Range in this game and Should have the highest hitting Kill shot.
When did a Warrior rifle Dare outperform our Range weapons?
When did a Thief bow Dare outperform our Range Weapons
There are reasons to be Depressed and Disappointed.
Quoted, because this is how it should be, vs how it is.
Not directly related to the build, but for all that is holy, could people stop filling them with all ascended gear? If you don’t spend every minute of game time grinding the fractals, it’s unrealistic to set the projected stats with ascended gear – and, while it’s not a huge change, it’s (at least) 60 pts of power lost from this build, to reset it to all exotic.
The other stats get hit with the same kind of change (which scales more with things like vitality and toughness). Use exotics, since that’s what the bulk of the playerbase will be using.
Just a request, and my humble opinion.
However, for game purposes, animal companions (pets) are indeed “companions” and “allies” and “teammates” and any other variation of the terminology that gets used in the tooltips.
Here are some more examples of revealing armor.
Eh, most of the pics you’ve posted I have nothing against, but the one on white background here is a tad too skimpy to my liking.
Front kinda looks she is wearing nothing but a belt to cover herself. It’s a bit too indecent to my liking.
Want to point out that the perceived indecency is purely subjective. To quote Heinlein “I can never see how a piece of clothing can be indecent. A person, easily, but clothing?”
As a hint, for the OP – the mount thread was closed for the same reason the previous 2000 mount threads have been locked then closed. ArenaNet has said, repeatedly, there will be no mounts in game.
Continued whining about something that has little support from the fanbase, and no support at all from the company, achieves nothing.
I’m surprised people don’t get infracted or temp bans for starting these threads.
You know, I was going to say there should be more choices for everyone, but the anti-skimpy armour crowd is far and away more offensive than the pro-skimpy crowd has been.
To put it simply, because it seems most of you don’t like big words (and the few who do have been using them poorly); the pro-choice group has been generally polite, whereas the anti-choice crowd has been demanding and belittling.
That alone settles it for me – the bigots have lost their rights to dictate for everyone in the real world (thank the deity I don’t believe in), they should have no such right in a game.
Bring on the skimpy armour! (I personally won’t wear it, but I will fight to the death for your right to wear it.)
Extra bonus points if you can name – without google – who I’m paraphrasing there.
Because what warriors need is more damage?
