OH sword will look bad with main hand autoattacking dagger/pistol. It’ll not happen anytime soon.
The mobs damage and health is already increased when you advance in fractals.
And you know what? The meta is still at berserker gear even at level 50.
Effective HP is linear on the player toughness. If you don’t understand what Effective HP is, you shouldn’t be doing any kind of theorycrafting.
Seriously, yeah Zerk is the only good stat. In PvE :o
The other stats are here for WvW and sPvP.
I think it’s confirmed that we won’t get the underwater weapons on land :o
Also, I don’t understand people that want the Rifle weapon. I hardly see how a new ranged weapon will help the thief, especially one that looks like it’s mostly single target focused. Do people really want something they can use to weakly autoattack stuff at 1200 range? That will help how? In WvW zerg fights?
There’s a reason rifle is the less used weapon : it’s cause it has no style nor class ! Engineer at least made something useful out of it by turning it into a shotgun :p

EHP is a linear function of player toughness, all other stats staying the same. This isn’t a diminishing returns relation, it’s linear. EHP = HP * (equipment armor + toughness). This is the definition of a linear relation.
Every point of toughness increases your EHP by your HP value. No matter if you have 0 or 10000 toughness.
Thoughness effectiveness doesn’t have diminishing returns. EHP scales linearly with thoughness (+ a few bonus jumps in EHP when it saves you time for a new heal/regen tick)
Healing Turret actually has a 15s cooldown for example. If you pick it up which isn’t a bad idea in the first place.
Also, every extra second might be an extra tick of regen.
yea and you totaly cant use poison sigil to negate the regen or interupt said heals at all
You are shifting the goalposts here. When someone said it takes 10s to kill a bunker currently, I kind of assumed you were already using the tools like poison and interrupts at your disposal.
20s is getting close enough to reuse a few heal skills, tick a few more regen ticks. So that 20s will instead turn into 30s. Which gives a few more ticks of regen again etc…
So 50% less damage turns into 120-150% more effort to kill them and not 100%.
Also, it’s important to note that players heavily investing in defensive stats can already faceroll content in the game. No dodge Arah runs? Bearbow-only Fractal runs? You name it. The current choice is between slow and easy or fast and harder.
Yeah, lik this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chkMBzXKxAs
Notice how much he optimised his DPS by not having to dodge at all which would stop him attacking.
thats what i want to see here like any other mmorpg i play as full tanker
so 10 players hit you and you just laugh ad them and they cant kill you that is what a tanker( build ) must be
on the down side i cant kill them but its very good for a commander he don’t need to fight he just give orders
No, that would be stupid.
I don’t see thief getting offhand sword anytime cause using main hand dagger with offhand sword is weird.
On the other hand, I can perfectly see a melee staff weapon getting a block. So you might get what you ask in a sense.
TBH, a thief is someone that steals stuff. If you want a real thief, it’s probably not to bring him on a battlefield to kill people.
So yeah, it’s kind of normal that the thief looks like an assassin or at least some fighting class.
There is already a condition that reduces crit chance. It’s called Weakness.
That trailer is older than the datamined sword skills no? So it’s old enough that development changed mind for thief weapon if it was really expected to be a rifle.
Thief is also very ninjaesque and a melee staff with martial arts would fit much better than a sniper rifle.
That’s not how EHP works.
Say, I have a heal that gives me 5k HP every 30s. And someone is attacking me doing 150 damage every second. How much effective HP do you think I have in this situation?
An infinite amount, that’s right.
Healing power scaling leads to infinite EHP with a finite amount of stats. Thoughness can do that too but the difference is that is scales worse than healing in this case so it’s more manageable.
Really strong evidence? A few skills datamined that kind of looked like copies of the dagger skills?
And how strong that evidence is compared to datamining an actual weapon complete with art assets done like the ele warhorn or that supposedly thief staff?
You can fit healing power into effective health like that : make it count as bonus HP equal to the amount you heal.
The trick here is that healing power, say on a skill that has a 1 coefficient gives you 1 EHP per Healing Power. Until the point where you live long enough to use your skill twice, then suddently you get 2 EHP per healing power, then 3 times and it’s 3 etc…
This scaling is hardly linear and more like exponential.
Well technically you can use a defensive infusion so you aren’t in a net loss of power or guard damage but more of a stat swap :o
Also, if all you care is WvW really, get one infused offensive ring and one not infused. No?
Healing does synergize with Toughness, but it scales the same.
No, it scales better. Normal EHP scaling on healing is linear true, but there’s a special factor going on : when you reach enough Healing power that you can suddently cycle one more cooldown before death, then the scaling for that point is definitively nonlinear is very high.
I’d go mixed venom/tricks with condition removal on tricks.
If you are going for a heavy condition damage build, using calltrops isn’t a bad idea in itself. Or you want some stun break and you can take either roll for initiative or haste then. And withdraw as a heal.
As for elite, take Thieve’s Guild if solo I guess.
Why is it considered time manipulation when a skill allows you shorter cooldowns really?
Or maybe you think that anyone that applies Chill is actually distorting time?
Or ANet could just let you keep the weapon equipped but dummy out all the skills it gives.
Healing synergies too well with toughness to scale better.
The issue is that damage and tankiness kind of nullify each other due to each individual stat having linear returns. The problem is healing got MORE than linear returns. The breaking point is that when your heals reach the point they allow you to survive until they are out of cooldown. At that point, healing gives you kind of infinite EHP.
There’s also the fact that, there’s little good reasons why ANet should do extra efforts to keep the new weapons unique.
I mean, what would it accomplish except make their job of finding and designing 9 elite specs harder?
I think ANet nerfed accrobatics cause they wanted to nerf all dodges. Ergo the base Vigor nerf for example.
Dodges were mostly a problem on classes like Mesmers, Engies and Eles that also get ridiculous defensive mechanics on top of regular dodges.
Well, don’t argue with me, I’m just saying what I think are the ANet reasons :p
Aka, a blanket nerf on dodges with little consideration for balance.
I think ANet nerfed accrobatics cause they wanted to nerf all dodges. Ergo the base Vigor nerf for example.
Doesn’t the Carapace(/Luminescent) medium chest armor fit what you want?
You do understand that this trait only activates while you are overloading an attunement right?
Speedy Conduit – You gain 33% bonus movement speed when overloading an attunement. Similarly to Earthen Proxy, you can also enhance this trait by equipping the Lucid Singularity trait, which heals you every second and reduces the duration of incoming inhibiting conditions by 100%
Well GW2 is pretty far in the future from GW1 and most technological advances result in some amount of miniaturisation :p
Something thief lacks in weapons : controls and blocks.
A martial staff using thief could very well give us more of those (controls in the forms of knockdown/backs). Of course initiative can always be an issue when you chain control with it. But who said thief initiative will remain unchanged when you take the specialisation anyway? :p
Note that Warrior currently doesn’t even have a “small” weapon available, and that Mesmer only has Pistol, and they can only use it in the offhand.
So both classes are unable to use a small main hand weapon with a big offhand weapon.
I don’t think you can reduce Overcharge duration with Arcane traits, there’s probably a specific trait to equip in Tempest for that.
I assumed that the attument recharge of arcane would take care of that, since it doesn’t do much at the moment.
From the TTH article :
overloading an attunement has a 20-second recharge and will set that attunement on the same recharge, 15 seconds if you have the trait “Harmonious Conduit” equipped
That “Harmonious Conduit” trait isn’t something existing right?
I don’t think you can reduce Overcharge duration with Arcane traits, there’s probably a specific trait to equip in Tempest for that.
We’ll probably get staff and nothing prevents having twice the same elite specialisation weapon.
Warrior elite spec seems to be called “berserker”, it’s weird that they’ll get pistol for that.
Though warriors already have so many weapons anyway. One day they’ll be the only class without a new weapon in an elite spec update cause they’ll already have all !
(edited by stof.9341)
Let me try again : it’ll look dumb as hell to see a thief autoattack with a dagger while he has a sword in his other hand doing nothing.
Scepter and Mace aren’t small at all. Not like a dagger or a pistol is.
We won’t be getting offhand sword anytime soon because main hand pistol/dagger (small) + an offhand sword (big) will look weird as hell.
Notice how the Mesmer can use pistols and offhand sword but in exchange cannot use main hand pistol?
As for the Spear, please take note that the weapon is highly evasive so the trait makes sense for it. Also it seems ANet said that no underwater weapon was coming for land usage.
Nobody at ANet said the specialisatios would get different weapons. In fact, it’s highly unlikely already since it seems Revenant gets a Shield which Mesmers get too. Also, Elementalists just got the same utility types as Necromancers, Shouts.
Guessing you’re rooted while overloading? I’m deeply skeptical about the viability of 3-5 second root in WvW. The second a group sees you channeling you’re going to eat dirt.
You probably aren’t rooted considering this :
Speedy Conduit – You gain 33% bonus movement speed when overloading an attunement.
Toughness has linear returns on effective HP which means it doesn’t have diminishing returns.
Effective HP scales linearly with Toughness and with Vitality.
Armor is armor. It’s not meant to fit someone’s stylistic choices, it’s meant to be used for combat. Not to mention how unfair that would be if light armor was the only one with this feature. Personally, I don’t think ANet should waste their development resources changing an already pretty good armor system they just need to make new armor and I mean armor not dresses.
Except that this is a game and that the visual representation of the armor has no relation to it’s protection.
In fact, heavy armor barely protects more than cloth armor in GW2. Most of the tankiness comes from the armor enchants part in the form of “toughness”. So you just have to admit that in GW2, armor protection mostly comes from the magic enchants and not from the base physical materials.
I can’t tell a male from a female with asura or charr unless I hear them talk.
It’s rather easy to tell a male from a female charr unless they wear a bucket on their head which some charr armors look like.
Realistically, it’s very hard to coordinate both your hands at once. Even fighting with two weapons, you would likely use the one in your dominant hand almost to the exclusion of the other, only occasionally switching focus when the situation demanded.
Which is something I find GW2 represents very well. Offhands have longish cooldown utilitarian types skills so you use them situationally in between autoattacks when it makes sense.
They can work on both, really, since the sigils themselves have a 9s CD they are balanced around. Even with Rev swapping both weapons and legends, they would not be able to swap any faster than a Warrior with Fast Hands on average.
Ah ! A Warrior speed to proc weapon swap sigils has nothing on the Engineer ability to do it every second !
It’s pretty sad how far it’s gone.
Been playing FF14 for a while now and have yet to be verbally abused or directly made the butt of a joke for playing Bard(Archer). Guess how many times a week that happens in GW2 for playing a Ranger? I’m pretty sure it’s the one class in the game where you can have every weapon a Legendary and people will still laugh at how you wasted all that time.
That’s not to say that GW2 is bad all the time but at its best, it’s average, and at its worst, it’s a game that makes me happy I can take a break and not be wasting sub fee money.
Maybe you should stop using longbow #4 at importune situations (or just plain stop using it), and switch away from your bear? Also, take the Spotter trait.
My ranger never got verbally abused in dungeons.
