Well supports are heroes that can do much, but really not THAT much alone :p And they are usually the easiest to kill.
So yeah, thieves really look like roaming supports in MOBAs XD
Well +1 role looks really a lot like a MOBA roaming ganker. It IS a role really :p
yeah except roamers in moba can 1v1 and even 1v3 (depending how well fed they are)….. thieves on other hand….
Not all. Support roamers do it at like level 1 and can only gank by helping a lane in an unexpected way.
Well +1 role looks really a lot like a MOBA roaming ganker. It IS a role really :p
The trait knocks the warrior out of the berserk mode though and drains all adrenaline I heard ANet say. So the ICD will be the time it’ll take the warrior to get back 30 adrenaline. And their F2 skill itself has like a 15s cooldown.
All that asside, it does feel very very short still. After all, their new elite gives them full adrenaline on a 20s cooldown.
Well what about : http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/v/12075076?t=31m02s
Assuming Daredevil and the staff are legit, I’m guessing we’d be trading steal (an engagement skill that potentially sets up the target) for some sort of disengagement skill that doesn’t grant stealth.
Impossible. First, F1 doesn’t grant stealth (without a trait). Second, no matter what happens to our F1 skill, it’ll still count as using “Steal” for all the existing traits. So no matter what the elite spec gets, you will still be able to trait your F1 to stealth on usage.
Assassin has some merit for reflect mesmer since (if I understand well) your power stat is ignored for attacks you reflect, but your own precision can cause a crit. So going for maxed crit chance at the detriment of power makes sense.
It wasn’t overpowered because there was little difference between 10s of burn and 10 minutes of burn. Both would get cleansed shortly.
Now that burn stacks in intensity, any skill that can spam apply stacks of burn is a killer.
Also, it seems ANet mostly balances the skills by throwing them at target dummies and checking how much damage it causes. That’s no wonder they never saw how messed up that ring of fire is when you cross it :p
Yeah but for how long? Not that I expect them to answer that which would clearly let people game the system. How long is reasonable for not logging in to be counted against the cap? A month?
At least until HoT release? Cause we are bound to see all semi inactive WvW players return to try the new map at that point :p
It’s likely that they still count active accounts that used to WvW but don’t go there anymore for quite some time as WvW active to prevent server wide population manipulations and excessive variance.
If you actually transfer away it should cause the server to be empty quicker :p
There are better sources than karma for the T1 and T2 cultural weapons though. You can buy them for relatively cheap for WvW tokens in a skin form (so it won’t even cost you a transmutation stone) and you can get T1 from blue and green drops, and T2 from rare drops in the race areas.
Longbow.
Far too limited :o
Torch if it is a burning weapon will have the burn traits in the line anyway.
Guardian have, ahem, slightly better burn traits than warrior. And warrior definitely will not get mesmer mechanic.
Of course they have better traits. Warrior doesn’t have burn XD (yet)
Facet of Darkness/ Gaze of Darkness is a deadly combination of CONSTANT Fury (20% crit chance) and a 5 sec reveal applicable to 5 targets. If this isn’t OP gentlemen, idk what is.
Techincally, Revenants can trait so that Fury gives them 40% crit chance. And they can also get rather high crit chance bonus on vulnerable targets :p
A 0 precision revenant car easily crit close to 100% of the time, at least in PvE.
Swashbucklers aren’t related to pirates in the first place. Also the name itself says which weapon the swashbuckler will get : a buckler! Aka a shield.
Whatever to do these players do in other games when their friends can’t join their full server?
From past experience, complaint posts on the forums.
I’d also like an easier way to swap rings and accessories cause it always swaps the first :’(
You forgot the stealth on steal trait :o
Speculation: They could also have set the limit lower to prepare for HoT, so they don’t run into half the servers already being so full people can’t get through the queue’s after HoT releases and potentially lots of people return. It could even be that once they get a couple of months of metrics to measure by, and HoT releases, that they will adjust it again. It would seem almost reasonable.
It would indeed not be stupid at all that their server full metric took into account the fact that it’s the summer and before a major release to extrapolate the server fullness from here.
From my experience the first sign of poor argument is resorting to pedantry.
As a sign of poor arguments, it’s probably tied in somewhere with “I disagree with you and I won’t tell you why” like you did.
Which is? simple the mmorpg crowd do not want a standalone PvP game. More imporantly those games do not have a chance at succeeding in the era of MOBAs.
Who cares about the mmorpg crowd here? If the sPvP part were to go F2P, it’ll bring in it’s own crowd of people interesting in that part of the game. In fact, the sPvP in GW2 is so far away from traditional MMORPGs in the first place with 0 gear or XP farm anyway, I always though it had the potential to be it’s own independent game because it’d attract a completely different crowd than the traditional MMORPG players.
Bundling everything at once (PvE, WvW and sPvP) like ANet did is bound to scare a few potential customers that have 0 interest in part of those offerings and don’t want to pay for the pack.
And as it stands now, from what I see, all successful multiplayer game are either F2P or incredibly cheap + F2P stores. GW2 fails here since HoT was put for sale, because the price of the sPvP part got increased to “too expensive” (aka, the price of a full copy of HoT). This will not help sPvP population in my opinion.
All MMOs I’ve played saw cries of “the game is dead” during the summer. Strange, must be the heat that causes our games to die.
I dont think it is meant to be an Evade on command, But an Evade while doing damage, Use the evade to take less damage while doing damage yourself, Not as much OMG I NEED A DODGE… DB! lol.
That’s what it is currently : a luck based evade. You never use DB taking into account the evade. It’s only “oh look, I actually dodged something this time! neat”
Yeah when you play a backstab thief, you pretty soon discover why damage doesn’t break stealth because you actually receive a LOT of damage while in stealth.
I’m pretty sure that Death Blossom could lose all evade frames in a bug patch and nobody will notice. Spammable evade you said …
The fact of the matter is:
1. f2p pvp only MMORPG do not exist for a reason.
Which is ? Also, if the sPvP part of GW2 went F2P, you’d be hard pressed to call that offering a MMORPG in the first place.
Especially considering Unrelenting Assault just got +30% damage and full evade for the whole duration.
So area of effects that dmg you, dont break stealth?
Considering melee weapons can apply a permanent huge area of hurt around you at no cost without needing a target, no. Damage doesn’t break stealth or else stealth would be plain useless.
I’d make the snipers snipe attack stronger and make their rapid fire weaker. The annoying thing with that mob is the sustained high range damage with isn’t something fun to play against, especially when we’ll start seeing elite and champion snipers around :p
The killer shot is ok and does actually a little too weak damage for such a telegraph.
The “zerg” on that bugged event that knows what needs to be done can handle troll players easily though. Just always attack the mob with the most health., switching constantly as needed as soon as the HP difference gets a little too big. That way, if a troll player is finishing a low health mob, it also means that ALL mobs are low health anyway and the even will proceed as normal.
There used to be all out blackout events when everyone logged off so we could drop server status. But now the best bet is to use an auto-clicker to join T1 because it will be very hard until Anets introduces the new system.
Edit : I would suggest spreading pops to t3
Whatdo you mean, when? The system is inplace already and that’s exactly the point XD It’s the new system that makes full servers nearly permanently full, or at least until enough people leave them.
That doesn’t solve the problem, now you have 250 of a higher tiered luck.
Well the problem would be lessened if we could pack those into ascended, then legendary levels :p
The reasons for this are that no matter what you do you will never achieve population/coverage balance (or even get close) with the 24/7 many tier model. We either need to suck it up and stop complaining about population/coverage or we need to try something completely different. There is no other choice.
Exactly. It’s impossible to have balance here. Just look for example at the numbers of connected Steam users : there are just less people in the world playing at certain hours.
I had that idee about a special 24/7 tier of servers for those that want it but there might be issues filling it correctly if the timezone servers are more popular. It’ll be hard to balance all those populations so we might end up with a non ideal situation.

All is explained here more or less : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Movement_speed
Auto crit warrior, sigil of intelligence
With 0 Power? Is that really worth it?
Edit, math inside :
- Assuming by base a player with 100% crit chance and 25 stacks of might
- with 0 power in gear, you’d have 1750 Power. With Power as secondary stat (900) you’d get 2650
- with 0 Ferocity, you have 150% crit damage. With Ferocity as secondary stat (900) you’d get 210% crit damage
+900 Ferocity on gear will improve your damage by 40%.
+900 Power on gear will improve your damage by 50%
This is assuming you somehow always crit and always are capped in might.
So conclusion : It’s not even worth it in perfect situations.
(edited by stof.9341)
ok, lets say we use this build for an example
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNArYWjc0QnNWdD22A/NOCGKZTv0PdMpDgIgeFfRTA-TFiHAB0+AAaTfAu7Pso6PAcKAsTJoRK/A+IAEAABYmlZZOzAjX8iX8iX8MzZOzZOzZWKAIWWB-w+50% condi duration with food
+30% confusion duration with runes
+100% condi duration with scepter attackslets just use the Auto attack bleeds for now. which in this build total to 12.5s and deals 184 Damage per second per stack for a total of around 2208 over 12s.
now run any build with melandru runes and lemongrass soup which is -65% condition duration.
Now the fun part…
12.5s – 65% = 4.3s ………..4.3s at 184 damage is about 736 damage per stack!
so where is this OP long lasting condition damage coming from?
I’m pretty sure that condition duration works only on the base duration and is capped at +100% no matter what, unless special trickery like that scepter trait that changes the base duration directly. So your situation would be more like :
- base 5s bleed increased to 10s from scepter trait.
- condition duration bonus 50% (all) +30% (confusion) from food/runes for a total of +80%
- condition duration malus of 65%
- total bleed duration change = 50-65 = -15%
- total duration of the scepter bleed autoattacks applied = 8.5s (10s – 15%)
8.5s duration is nearly twice the damage you found and much more dangerous then that you think.
Or better, just stop with the dumb bags of gear. I swear whoever had the idea to give us bags that open into 3 trash gear items should be shot XD
Or at least, make it like Diablo III and add a “salvage all” button. But it’d cut into the value of the salvage-o-matic anyway.
what sustain could we have with a thief’s armor and HP?
or are we supposed to run solider’s amulet and be a crappy GS warrior?i doubt staff would bring us anything useful because it just simply doesn’t jive with our talents, design, ect ect.
Did you notice that the two most famously unkillable professions are Elementalist and Guardian, both with the same HP as a thief and one with worse armor?
The absolute last thing we need, is more servers. Night capping is what it is, it sucks for the NA players but it’s part of a 24/7 matchup. I don’t think there is an easy solution without making people who don’t play NA prime feel slighted. The one solution that should not even be considered is adding more servers.
No, the 24/24 matchup idea sux in the first place. And there is an easy solution I just mentionned : give the night cappers their very own server pool and their own matchups.
I just want a toughness/vitality/ferocity amulet….
Please
Just, why? oO Which build would even be remotely more effective with Ferocity and 0 Power or Precision
…..No.
You want to lock WvW for everyone until a specific time?
Are you serious?
You aren’t serious.A better solution would be to give the most points during the server’s designated timezone. In otherwords, For NA servers during the designated NA prime. The point gain would be set at 100%, during other timezones point gain would be 25%
I am serious. Other games do that and it solves most problems we currently have. Your solution would do what? Make SEA users second rate citizens where their work counts for barely nothing? Ok. But then you introduce one issue.
Server win/loss is used to match servers of similar level together. Unfortunately for SEA, their contribution has little effect on their server win. So as a result, the system will have no difficulties matching a server with SEA presence against two servers with no presence at all. All that because you counted them as second rate citizens that don’t matter!
This is the exact reverse situation we have now. Where night time activity has a disproportionate impact on the server ranking. For example, imagine if T1 and T2 were just full and active on prime time. What is the difference between T1 and T2 then? SEA players. So as a result of SEA not having their own servers, you get the situation where T1 and T2 will never face each other in prime time despite the fact the matchup might very well be balanced, at least on population? This is a huge loss for the big pupolation mass of those 6 servers prime time. They are stuck in repetitive matchups while we could in theory offer them variety!
See, a big WvW problem is just that : the fact that a server “score” is the average of their result across all timezones. And the population available in those different times are just not the same so it’s a disservice to everyone to meld all that together. This is a vision of WvW that might have worked if the populations were similar 24/24, or at least enough to fill multiple server tiers 24/24.
And then we are at the point were server caps are reached, and perfectly legitimate SEA population movements cannot happen because the server they want to join is full, during primetime. But how can the system say “you are a SEA player, you can enter, you are a primetime player, no the server is full for you” ? My solution works for that Closing the WvW servers outside of their own primetime, or at least making it so that PPT/captures/siege is frozen in time, all that while offering them their very own tier of servers with a primetime adapted to their particular needs.
Those SEA players have a good point though. The player population has attritioned to a point where there’s not enough in their timezone to support more than one tier. They simply can’t spread out and still have fun.
I think their best solution is just to mass-transfer down to T8 where there’s likely enough room for them all. Then they just have to make sure all the servers in T8 stay T8 — not too hard since T1 players have plenty of experience with that.
In my opinion, a lot of what’s wrong with WvW comes from catering to SEA players and the problem of coverage wars they pose :o
ANet should create a special group of WvW servers for them that only open in their timezone, and change the others to only open in primetime.
Dota2 has a dishonor system. Doesn’t stop all of the games have one or more leavers/afkers.
You must have installed Dota 1 by mistake. My games practically never have leavers and never afkers.
Am I the only person who really wishes gliding was designated only for specific “gliding areas”, similar to the way diving goggles work, or perhaps have a cooldown to it? I just feel like gliding will remove any feel of fall damage, and seeing people pop open a glider for the smallest gap is just going to look odd. It takes me back to Aion…
But this was the best part of Aion flight system! Also the cause of quite a few of my deaths in GW2 until I finished training my fingers for a “no gliding allowed” world XD
Skills have a cast time, AND an after cast delay that prevents further actions. This delay isn’t clearly documented though.
Sure. Here’s some early artwork for the thief.

There is still hope for Thief to get some kind of gun !
I’m pretty sure, OCD notwithstanding, that you can tweak your jewelry pieces to get close enough of the stats you want anyway. Because I see no good reason to “get the same numers” as long as you get similar enough values.
And as you say, changing the stats of ascended armor is expensive. What will you do when you switch from a place were you are more confortable in 100% zerk to one where you’d like more HP? When you change multiple times in a day? I’m sure you’ll not switch your armor stats :p
Basically the point is : it’s much cheaper to keep multiple sets of ascended jewelry to tweak your build than multiple sets of ascended armors. So I’d suggest going on the armor for the base building block of your stat builds that will not really change, aka some pieces of zerk, and let the jewelry do the tweaks.
There’s 0 chance the populations will end up balanced if you leave it to the player themselves with no hard rules to enforce balance.
