It is in 1v1 situations, but it’s a little to effective in important mid fights. If I get downed its very easy for me to reposition for a rez.
I tried, didn’t work
Are you using salvage kits you bought outside the mists? Has to be PvP salvage kits
Oh I didn’t know that, thx then
Np, now you can get rid of some of that clutter. :P
Joined up yesterday, got 2nd place and 1st place in another. We need some more teams, and it’s a great bunch of guys to run with.

I think that we don’t know enough about the decisions of them, and their publisher about release. If they did say everything was fine, they made the big mistake a lot of ambitious developers do now. They assumed they had a patient, and understanding playerbase.
Honestly a feel a bit silly replying to this. When did we start treating game developers and designers like politicians? Constantly trying to find things to pick at and trying at every turn to discredit what they say.
This doesn’t help anything.
You have a trait to remove conditions, a signet, a pet skill, and you can drop your spring and use axe 5. The options are there, talk to some rangers and learn.
I don’t necessarily hate it. (Though I too struggle to find how it’s necessary) I think it would be better if you couldn’t rally while someone was finishing you, at least.
I wonder if this was to prevent people from leaving large amount of teams bleeding out?I’m sure this was the reasoning behind it, but couldn’t they do something to where if after 45 seconds downed you start regenning 5% health or something? Anything but the “Well, that thief I attacked 2 minutes ago just happened to be killed at some other place in the map. I’m up, I feel great, LETS FIGHT!”
Haha. Yes, it is a bit ridiculous sometimes. Especially the treb rallies.

Our heal is lower because our health pool is lower than the warriors. You can’t scale a healing spell by others when the amount of health for each class is different. People have already explained why it can be good, so I won’t touch on that.
I’m considering tomorrow night at 11pm(central) or Sunday night. This seemed to be a good time from the times posted. Please let me know how this time is for you.
We are considering implementing a rule for no healing after 3-5 minutes. To help with the bunker issue. We will include a losers bracket and most likely best of three for each duel.
You can make changes to your build between fights, but I am still deciding on whether your not you can leave to the mists to change builds before your fight a new opponent. (Losers bracket included) Please discuss so that we may make the best decision possible.
I think its an attempt to establish general themes for weapon types. I honestly have no problem with is as long as there is some variety in the skills per class.
I agree with this. I think that it would be beneficial to community organised events. I’ve been having trouble finding something to use as a prize in the tournament I am about to schedule
I haven’t had this happen in ages. I’m also seeing a lot more necromancers and elementalists lately. Anecdotal stories solve nothing, nor do they provide sufficient evidence to begin solving an issue. If you want to be a scrub killing class, level one to 2 and play it. You might be disappointed once you leave 8v8 hotjoin, though.
I’m extremely interested. Goob.9752, I’m a thief with an interesting build. I’m available anytime on the weekends. During the week 1pm-5pm then I’m back on from 2am-7am EST
I’d like to see that build. Btw I’ve decided on the weekend for a tourney, just need to pick a specific day and time

Yeah sounds about right, don’t question the almighty overlord ANET
Exactly. They dont give a monkeys what us players think, after all they have our Money and as long a people are spending money on gems then they dont care about what people think of the game, of the balancing or anything else
The posts already exist. If they didn’t care what we thought they wouldn’t hold so many Q&A sessions. Don’t care=\=best or better at the time

You’re posting on their forums. You are obligated to follow their rules, or they can act as they see fit. Its not an “almighty overlord” thing, it’s a this is their property and your agreed to the rules kind of thing. Get over yourself.

… I just did the same thing. Guess you beat me to it.
Ha, I only got embershard in it last night. If got more of us then we can just use yours.

Ill be shooting for a tourney sometime this week or weekend. Also, I have created a guild so that, even if you aren’t representing it, you can see who is online. Send me a tell in game for an invite, and I will enable inviting for everyone.
Entire mesmer profession is based on cheap annoying mechanics like clone spamming,confusion/retaliation spam. Its the most disgusting class in history of MMOs.
Hmm I think that vanilla WoW rogues were way worse than mesmers have ever been.
Clones and phantasms don’t strafe, dodge, run backwards. They do not carry the same buffs as the mesmer, nor do they copy his or her health. Most are stationary expect when they attack. A huge help will be if the mesmer has a glory boost or finisher.
Now go kill some mesmers.
added everyone from EU to my friendlist too
ready for the tourney
Keep in mind that embershard and I are managing US. Eu needs a tourney manager. If US duelists are monitoring this thread, please let me know the best time for a tournament for you.
Thanks ember for keeping the list so well. Looking at times for tourneys now.
hotjoin will never be a place for rewards or for structure that would defeat the whole point of it. its for brand new just bought the game ppl to go muck around until they either find a guild or meet friends in it then they learn the basics and can move on to free.
i am sorry right now that ppl use hotjoin as an escape from frees because at this point in time premades are making it ZERO fun for pugs but after this monday i bet we will see that all change.
if you want to see why i think that go read this and even reply if you want https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/great-idea-what-do-you-think/first#post843913
but good job on the post
These aren’t meant to make hotjoin an extremely competitive place. These are meant to encourage teamwork and communication among the players. Hotjoin staying casual is fine, but the disconnected feeling from the players around is not. Your thread is great, but is irrelevant to the point of this post.
Anyways, because of the auto-balance (and ability to join with friends), I don’t think consecutive win rewards are a good idea.
I think the positives of giving players incentive to stick together for a couple matches outweigh the negatives. One could simply switch back once more joined. Also, it could, perhaps, be set so that if you are autobalanced to another team a lose doesn’t count against you.
-Offer award chests for consecutive wins in hotjoin. 3,5,10 and bronze, silver, gold respectively.
I really like this idea. I can imagine pugs discussing in chat if they are going to “go for some chests” or not. I think it would really encourage people to play to win if they know they are going to get some extra glory and loot for their efforts.
I was also thinking matches may even get more competitive as they played longer against each other.
When I play hotjoin, I find myself having an entirely different experience than tournaments. In most tournaments, you can get active communication and a stronger desire to earn a win. However, in hotjoin the atmosphere is much different. I struggle to get any form of communication going, and the general focus seems less on winning or working with your team and more on attacking the closest red name.
Now, I understand that hotjoin is not meant for extreme competition, nor meant to punish you for leaving or force you to stay. I will discuss nothing of the sort here.
My intention is to offer some ideas that I believe will promote team play, and the urge to come out with a victory. I believe that these two things will not only improve the general feel of hotjoin, but shares a positive correlation with community development and the desire to stay; as the teams work together, bonds and tournament teams form.
-Offer award chests for consecutive wins in hotjoin. 3,5,10 and bronze, silver, gold respectively.
-balance rewards for defensive and offensive play.
-give a more noticeable reward for each win. The glory notification is mostly disregarded, and clicked away.
-please post more if you have any thing in mind.
While I’m one of the “winning should be enough reward in itself,” I agree with the idea of the thread. The difference in reward for win/lose and for defense/offense seems to need adjustments.
I hesitate to say defense should be rewarded more, because then we may get pugs full of bunkers. However, it should be pretty even.
As for winning/losing, I think that winning should give a substantial award in comparison to the losing.
There has been, as shown above and in several comments here. You just have to look for it on the websites and forums. Twitter also announces when they will be doing discussions, as does the news feed when you log in.
Hope to get a tourney rolling by the end of next week. Depending on how our roster looks.
I try not to sound elitist, and to be as understanding as possible in most regards. However, I think is is a perfect example of people wanting something without putting out the effort to earn it. If you are having trouble getting people organized to protect you from the steal, this is the fault of the players around you. This has nothing to do with Anet. This mechanic as depth, and strategy. Just because you want to not have to pay attention and tunnel vision the npc while ignoring chat, doesn’t mean it needs changed. It simply means you need to step up your game and remember you have teammates.
If a quarterback throws an interception, its because he wasn’t watching the defense. It is not because the ability to intercept is broken or needs changed.
You just need to communicate, if you can’t communicate with your pug there has been enough people griping here to form a tPvp team. There, problem solved.
Tl; Dr: it’s not broken, you just don’t want to try.
I would assume it’s to prevent dropping combat to switch skills. I don’t see a major issue with this to be honest.
I’d love to get in on this just to buff up on my 1v1 and see what these other dueling builds are all about. Unfortunately, my availability is the most sporadic thing in the universe, and when I do find time to log in, I usually tend to dive into WvWvW with ye olde guild.
I’d like to keep an eye on how this progresses. Kudos for setting it up.
EDIT – I meant to also reply to comments/thoughts like this:
There’s a problem with this. 1v1 in this game is not balanced at all. Two builds will rise above all others: Mesmer condi build, and d/d ele. These are the two best 1v1 builds in the game, and most builds don’t even come close to killing them.
The absolute best way for people to evolve against certain builds is to throw themselves at it and test in a controlled environment. I’d even go as far as saying dueling with a support build can be a good learning experience, with repeated attempts at surviving as long as possible/learning to avoid burst rotations/etc.
Regardless of whether or not the game’s balanced for 1v1 encounters in a competitive level, this sort of exercise is healthy, in my opinion.
We can still get you on the roster for PST. Hope to duel you soon.
Got some good fights in with conspiracy yesterday. Pretty evenly matched I’d say. Hoping to get to you tonight ember.
When are you going to be on tOss?
Ill be on a about an hour or so after my availability tonight. I was on a bit last night and got some duels in with conspiracy.
And thanks aragiel, we’ll definitely consider those rules.
Too late to get in on this?
Nope, just post your availability
Sorry but all around bad idea.
Any ele that knows even half of his skills can sustain himself through the glassiest of cannons. An infinite 1v1.
I would propose if certain sustain classes were banned (aka ele, guard) this may have a chance to work out.
The only reason 1v1 tournies work in League is because tank/supports are actually killable over a long period of time. In this game its less about mitigation and more about infinite sustain (which adds the element of “skillful” tanking dodging, condi removing, etc… rather than just stat mitigation).
If need be, in tournaments, we could establish rules for first to cap the point or first to be knocked out after x amount of time. These are subject to change depending on how the players feel when we establish rules for it.
I have to say that….if you didn’t notice, this is actually a morpg, not street fighter..
Yes this is an mmorpg, with PvP; dueling is part of that. If you don’t have anything meaningful to Contribute to the topic, please refrain from posting.
(edited by tOss.9024)
Ill be on at that time than so we can get some 1v1 in
Awesome I need to do some condition mitigation tweaking on my build.
Because this isn’t WoW.
Ptrs would be very helpful. Who cares what is most known for having them?
OP I respect and admire your attitude, and I agree that there’s far too much QQ on these forums in general, but you’re forgetting that customer expectations have moved on dramatically since the early days of WoW. Maybe in the early days of online gaming people were more willing to find ways of implementing features they wanted in a game because the entire concept of what experience an online game offered was still being defined. Over a decade on, people shouldn’t have to make the extra effort to artificially create facilities that should have been offered out of the box. I never played GW1 so I had no pre-expectations, but if I were an old GW1 player I would have expected everything that made the first game great to come pre-packaged and ready in this game, and apparently that just didn’t happen. Now add to that the class imbalances and continual bugs, and you begin to see why people shouldn’t be blamed for not putting the “extra effort” in.
Years ago anti-lock breaks were a new feature on cars. Now they’re standard issue. Do we really have to reinvent the wheel and then wait for things to “evolve” each time a company brings out a new model (especially when they had a perfectly successful template to work from in the first place…?). Would you shout and beg the car dealer for the features you wanted, and keep shouting until you felt like you were talking to yourself, or would you just buy a different model?
I can agree that they could have had more done, and I also agree that the modern game is expected to have more in regards to organization. But my best experiences in mmos have been about 10% structured/dev implemented activities and the rest has always been the ideas my mates or community has come up with.
Edit: I use could here for lack of a better word. I cannot speak for what they had time to get done. From my understanding, “when it’s ready,” really means as long as our publisher will let us wait.
(edited by tOss.9024)
Same. tOss what happened lastnight? you didnt get back at me
Ya I’m sorry man. I tried to put my son to sleep and ended up passing out Lmao. Ill be on late tonight though 1am central. If anyone will be on.
Anyone feel like some 1v1 right now? I play necro, looking to test some things out and see how it works.
Ill get at you later tonight man.
Im glad to see some are on board for this. Please see the dueling centre thread if you would like to join us in preparing for a 1v1 tournament.
2 x eles is very fun to watch, 2 d/d eles that is, good fight too
Very true. I’m pretty sure I’v fought you before.
Possibly, Sophea of Elements
Been trying out some new builds, yet to find something I like.
My friend made a silly s/d super dodge build lol. 100% vigor+ all gain endurance traits, adventures armour and energy sigil. He can dodge so often that I will burst him into the ground then he can mitigate all damage, full heal and start his attacks. To get around that I need to waist his auto armour of earth, then go in for the kill, burst him, summon frost bow, freeze his head and rain hail from the sky.
Ha, I’ve tried that before. Actually great fun to run.
Ran into a problem. Myself and Kaplis are trying to Pvp but he is Eu and I am USA. Is there a possible way around the regional barrier?
Oooh that I’m not certain of. I think our regions might not share sPvP servers. We might have to split region wise.
There’s a problem with this. 1v1 in this game is not balanced at all. Two builds will rise above all others: Mesmer condi build, and d/d ele. These are the two best 1v1 builds in the game, and most builds don’t even come close to killing them.
Yeah the game isn’t balanced at all for it, but my ranger actually has beat every d/d ele I’ve seen. S/d is a bit more challanging since they ironically out ranged dps me by a wee bit.
Condi mesmers are annoying, one of the few people I’ve gone under 1:1 against played a sword-torch/staff condi mesmer, an utter pain to fight, I had to land a well timed pet CC or lose after constantly beating up his phantasms with traps/pet… if the fight has to be on BO they lose a good deal of their advantage though since they can’t kite near as far away.
:)
Rangers are exceptional at 1v1s, it just doesn’t translate over too well into tournies since their survivability is based on dodging (worse as fights get larger) and, at least in my case, protect me (pet eats all your dmg for 6~ seconds) which is also worse as fights get larger since the pet only has so much health… that combined with mediocre synergy with others just isn’t worthwhile.
You haven’t met me I guess.
We’re not on the same server :/
We can still send pms in game and meet in servers.
ready for the tourney
