Yeah every time as long as most of the players stands and holds the stairs it usually succeeded. Sometimes when there weren’t enough players listening to “orders” I jus sacrifice myself and grab all the aggro from the mobs charging down the stairs to stop them from entering the ring. As long as players get aggro before they reach ring it mostly is alright

BUT ONE IMPORTANT THING TO ADD. ranged players don’t seem to catch on. The Eye has RETALIATION. When I’m shooting I notice at one point my life starts going down. I immediately cancel my attack and I no longer take damage. During these times is also the time when a ton of people, the most ppl actually get downed. Even ppl at range. This is bc the Eye is based off of a Mesmer type class and has retaliation.

STOP ALL ATTACKS immediately as soon as u notice ur life taking hits as ur attacking from ranged. Melee players also seem to survive and go down during the retaliation moments the most.

REMEMBER THIS KEY POINT.

Yeah while I have to kite more mobs come along for the fun making it a never ending process so I’ve been learning to kite and circle in a smaller area… Which is tough xD

Thanks for the tips! Wow it’s good to know I’m on track then, that’s exactly how I think. I don’t shatter often and with the defensive chaos storm I often use it to keep my illusions up and they can deal damage fast. I only shatter when i need it or know ive got cds ready. As well I try and pull multiple mobs so that I can practice multi targeting, so I’d have illusions on different ones while I pick off targets. Yesterday I have gotten more used to it I think, loving it.

I find it cool because I scout and survey what kind of enemies I’ll be facing and then reslot skills before going into the fight. I find myself thinking a lot less with other classes

I still think I need to learn the timing when I’m going into melee

Yeah I’ve seen whips or something similar on some occasions throughout the game, the animation isn’t hard or anything either, there are many advanced animated models in this game. I can imagine the aoe technique of a thief was it? I see it from pirates all the time but dont or don’t often see any players using it, I thought it was the thief class… The spinny whippy blue black lines lashing out thingy, totally a whip weapon skill

I’m just not so convinced about using the actual word whip bc it just has too many connotations? XD it sounds wrong or cruel or whatever. Maybe a better term, like you would have flail or chain or lash or Idk something better xD

Yes of course! We are all wishing for it! Lol clipping issues indeed though I wouldn’t mind clipping issues as long as it looks fine while I’m standing and running, for a split second as I’m swinging a sword and such… That wouldn’t really matter that much, things clip anyway, it’s super hard to make it perfect

This has been on my mind long before I started my own Mesmer. Don’t know if anyone tried this or if it’s jus impossible but theoretically can’t a Mesmer or Mesmer team or maybe a thief with Mesmer, set a portal entre and then cloak and bypass a bunch of normal mobs that u don’t rly need to kill and once ur safe, set up the second portal to bring the rest of the party?

Is it possible to just bypass mobs and only kill bosses u need to? Depends on dungeon of course.

Love mesmer so much, started one this week. levelled so fast just because i love it. It takes so much skill, thinking and finesse and after a while im getting used to it. Now when i see warriors come along… no offense but it feels so barbaric. LOL I’ve played other classes, i love my level 80 ranger as well, i played that with more strategy and mobility etc as well, contrary to beliefs, i think ranger is a challenging class to play well and optimize in all situations. but mesmer by far is even more fun and even more challenging to do well i think. but once you have the hang of it, it’s amazing! XD

Any thoughts to share on why you also love mesmer?

@budd my level 80 ranger does fine in Orr actually. I have a power precision + vit build and i seem to deal good dps 1500-2000 per normal hit, 14k for bursts, with tons of aoe going melee, with all the evasions and mobility, it usually does well. so sometimes i solo swarm events even, while i may need to rally a few times. i dont build for my pet to tank, since pet ai isn’t the greatest and it won’t aggro or survive for long but i fight alongside my pet so we each take some damage which helps

I think bc of all the conditions and such by Risen, you need vit more to absorb, as well as enough dps to stay alive by clearing them fast enough

But yeah, i think its one of those stealthy makeshift ways to deal with botting… but it doesnt help. the most important things is to have code and a system that will detect bot patterns and auto-kick/ban system-identified bots or some managerial system

I was quite surprised dealing with the mobs now after not having to level for so long

ive been levelling up a new mesmer, level 30 now. barely do they ever go after my illusions…. they’re always coming after me. I’ve noticed that there were changes, i levelled my ranger in the beginning weeks of the game after launch but now its vastly different. Things have such fast respawn rates and huge aggro distance and range, and always comes after me rather than my clones, phantasms or pets etc. I don’t particularly mind that much bc i kite around my illusions, i prefer that they stay alive longer because i can dodge and move around while they’re dishing out steady damage and conditions… but still the original purpose is gone and worse yet i think things have changed since launch and made it all a much more frustrating gameplay that doesn’t make a lot of sense. sometimes the spawn rates and aggressive nature of mobs is really ridiculous and absurd. they would rush at you from over 1200 – 1500 range as you go thru the zones and after you kill something two more come at you…. and this is prominent in every zone including lower level zones like level 10-25.

i think thre’s a lot they could do. this is one but as for countering bots…. don’t they have coding ways to just detect when a player is misusing skills repetitively? I’ve notice most bots randomly heal when they are at full health, use elite skills, drop traps, and onwards, repetitively. with some code you can detect the repetitive misuse of a skill thereby suggesting it may be a bot. They also attack all possible targets one after another without stopping or much hesitation. This amongst a few other code-side strategies, like the one you mentioned, detecting running patterns… could quickly eliminate and prevent bots. A simple warning message like the boot message after inactivity, and if the actions are the same patterns continuing without change, then the system can boot. something to that effect, of course it can be smoothed out

Idk when I take like three or more at same time I tend to take hits as soon as Im done with blurred frenzy in melee. If I stay ranged I should be ok but that takes longer and I prefer to finish mobs asap ranged and melee. Sometimes cuz of the cd I do have to do melee

yes i use staff and sword/focus, i like the aoe warden gives as i kite them around the warden, and i love staffs support and clones with conditions are great. they end up dealing so much damage. i havent had a lot of luck with into the void, after i finish with my initial staff long range stuff with clones etc they tend to start to clump up and come for us, so im free to launch my warden and melee and move around perhaps with decoy stealth. iim trying to get better at aiming the focus void to use it as a knock back when i want to go back to ranged. but so far when im in melee i have next to no defense save for the blurred frenzy invulnerability. how do u stay alive with melee? :S

that’s interesting, how do you manage being melee most of the time? I go long range and then use melee if i have to or if i need some good dps, but i find that its hard to escape after entering into melee. Some reason, weapon changing seems so slow and after im done my chains of my sword set skills, thers kind of this awkward moment when i cant do much before i can get back to ranged.

but when thers a big swarm, kiting from range doesnt seem to be enough and last long enough so u can imagine i have mobs on me when i try to escape melee. most of the time i survive, but its not as flawless and smooth as i intend… i intend to barely take any damage if possible and i think its possible for mesmer.

my ranger is really powerful with my build, tons of dps but still survivable, but its more straightforward. mesmer is really a ton of fun. im levelling up really fast with this as well just because i’m seeking challenges since mesmer seems to be so capable

Hi everyone! So I started a Mesmer earlier in the week, got to lvl 30 now. I’m talking bout PvE only here. Love the class is super fun but also super challenging and a lot of work to do well imo. Being used to more responsive reactive gameplay, with my Mesmer often times I feel kind of awkward and needing space to plan, make clones/phantasms, play with some tricks etc

First of all, without going into details of build and wha I’m using and so forth (I saw the comprehensive guide videos and it helped alot and I love my weapons) BUT question for all you Mesmers personally, do you find that Mesmers are not rly a response based class? Not reflex to block and evade etc but that u need some space? Or are u completely fine responding to the environment in PvE

How do YOU personally play the Mesmer in tight situations? Cuz I haven’t done dungeons and so forth, what kind of skills, strategies etc do you use in different situations, when things don’t go ur way?

Secondly I’m wondering if I lack skill or if others have the same issues. Most of the time in surprised at how well Mesmer can solo things, vets, champs perhaps, single targets are tons of fun. The dps on my mesmer is insane even without much traiting or updated gear for a single target. Mesmer seems to be able to down targets 5 level higher in a half a minute or so.

However in swarms and multiple mobs it becomes a lot of work and for me it rly inconsistent with results. I’ve been in maps 2-6 levels higher with the Mesmer. Sometime I can take on 3 – 4 mobs at once, sometimes I have trouble w 1 or 2. It doesn’t help that i tend to panic since there’s so many things u can do and do many steps.

For YOU, from ur experience,was higher level mobs easy for your Mesmer while leveling? In events where there is a swarm how well do you handle yourself? Can u solo for example group event 20 mobs in a lvl 15 zone with ur level 25? Bc oddly I couldn’t for this random low level event yet had good results in a higher level place, when I might’ve been able to on my ranger or guardian… Not sure tho.

I mean of course it depends on the type of mobs and what sorts of conditions and attacks they have but I mean just average, how you’ve felt throughout the game with ur Mesmer

Thirdly, what slot skills do you run with? Do you pick survivability, condition removal and escape utilities or more offensive, clone creating etc skills? Some reason I can’t seem to do well unless I have alot of clone spam skills like mirror image and decoy for escape and one more clone. I use a staff so clones stack conditions. But I find myself at risk bc I lack survivability skills like null field, phantasmal defender or feedback as response to situational things.

Is it possible to never die in all or most situations because mesmer feels like it could be capable of it.

Idk if I make sense or maybe I’m generalizing too much. But just want to know your experiences while leveling, more specifically how consistent is ur solo PvE experience esp pertaining to multiple mobs and group events you want to solo?

I m kind of confused and don’t know if I just suck or is it normal or I just don’t use a Mesmer well. I leveled a ranger to 80 ans stuck with it for the longest time so I completely forgot what the leveling experience was like. And I think ranger had been much more straightforward. Like I had consistent results and was clear so i knew my limit bc I would not be able to do certain things.

With the Mesmer I’m constantly seeking bigger challenges bc it seems so capable but at the same time so incapable at times. Lol I guess this is the new Mesmer syndrome?

absurd respawn rates

Okay, I just started a new charactr recently… and progressing through all the maps again. it is COMPLETELY different from when i first started in the begining weeks just after launch…. the respawn rates are absurd, as soon as u kill them, two more come out and you end up not being able to revive someone or even an npc that might cater to an event, and even some events and places the density and amount of mobs has skyrocketed. Not what i remember it being like.

Some places I feel extremely frustrated because I question my skill now since i can’t solo an event with swarms, regardless of level, just because of the spawn rates and sheer numbers…

Does anyone else notice this? That it actually changed compared to the beginning? everywhere feels like what Orr feels like. But i don’t remember it being so in the beginning of the game for low levels. Some things might be way too hard for the players of appropriate level of the zone.

I started with Mesmer recently as well but a thread earlier with four part YouTube comprehensive guide to Mesmer rly helped. I always thought I would love running staff and sword sets and I love it after I learned how to use it with all the combos and such.

Staff has a ton if condition work with combos with chaos storm and tons Of clones that has winds of chaos which stacks things really fast . Not sure if it will be the most effective but it def fits my style more. I break in with sword sword , sword torch or sword focus depending on what I’m running w at the time and weave in and out of ranged and melee

For staff and torch and other stuff u have some really great offensive and defensive conditions and boon which also helps alot. Both in keeping ur clones and phantasms up and giving urself and allies protection and chaos armor and other neat things.

I’m still exploring but u can really work out a good condition power build. So far soloing swarms, vets three to five levels higher are manageable. I prefer the aoe from these sets of mine more than what gs can offer

Things can go down fast! But I’m no pro yet xD will learn more and perhaps be more useful later

I never liked the greatsword, is it really any good?

I just started with a mesmer in PvE and i can’t decide between staff and greatsword. For the most part, I never really felt the need to compare numbers or real scientific technicalities behind everything, but rather what i feel best with, what i am most skillful with and what fits my play style and strategy most. For now, I am running main staff with sword/torch as secondary. It seems to synergize great. But staff does indeed not have a lot of damage…

It just fits my play style and strategy more. With the GS i feel awkward i dont know how to exactly work it into play. It kinda just zaps and hits and does a bunch of things and is powerful but i’m not sure of its role exactly. It feels like a little bit of everything. With the staff i’m playing with a lot of tricks and kiting and interesting stuff, and then jumping in for burst dps kills with my melee sword and torch stuff. I love the torch as well

For GS users, what do you feel is / how do you describe the role of a GS in your sets in PvE? Not really what it does but for you personally, how does it affect your play style, weapons and strategies?

good on you for finding something that works for you AND for using a weapon just because you like it. I too have something that works, and basically i ignore my pet and make sure i do enough damage myself lol. I’m doing fine. Not the best but i’m doing fine in all situations.

To everyone else, people’s builds might not work for everyone. It depends on your style, your way of thinking in combat, your strategies, even your personality etc. If ranger never worked for you, that’s too bad. But it works for some people. I’ve seen successful condition builds as well. I’ve seen builds that some people use, but within those ppl some of them use it effectively whereas others decide it is a bad build.

Anyway, cool stuff!

And even though many people think the ranger class is not viable, and completely useless, I beg to differ and quite a number of other rangers can still hold their own no matter what bugs or nerfs… and will be even better if things get fixed up. But this thread shouldn’t go into that talk!! XD

Thanks, I’m on the same page as you and also many other rangers who do well, but don’t feel like coming here because of all the negativity haha. I’ve seen a lot of good rangers in game. But most who are going pew pew pew…. Then you see the ones who are like melee-ing like bosses, or condition rangers who kite 11 risen in Orr at one time, throwing down traps and conditions and running circles around them. And I’m there going like… wth. watching the HP of mobs drain steadily.. Like when I hit i see it go down with each hit. One hit is approx 1/6 or 1/7 of hp, so i need to hit a few times. But I see a condition ranger and it drains so smoothly haha it’s a nice sight. lol. Can a single warrior kill a dozen risen in Orr by himself in one go? I’ve seen like… six or seven. Seen one decked out in nice gear attempt. Saw him go down. Then I came in and took care of them myself, switching from long range kiting to melee aoe stuff.

I’d hope that other will read my long walls of text sharing some experience. Most will probably flame and not agree, but your experience is your own experience. If you don’t share the same success, then that’s too bad. But I’m just sharing what i’ve experienced, and i’m not even a good player at all.

Yea…so then there wasnt anything important going on. shrug Whatever, Maybe I can help people pass some time, Im using a 30/25/0/0/15 build atm with double raven for pvp, longbow ( preference, hate shortbow ) and sword/horn, and with signet of the wild and RaO I become competetive for 20 seconds. Sadly ranger even with the cds is only on par with other classes who dont use their cds, but once they are down Im back to being sub par.

Pet nearly 1 shot a thief tho, so that was a highlight of my day.

lolol that sounds fun. what’s your other skills? What about some Stone Signet to add some invulnerability for 6 seconds? sounds like your build can do that. yeah after the super long CDs, then we’re out of the game for a while or perhaps just try to survive xD that’s the life of a ranger…

But no, i’m not saying the ranger is great or that i am great or very skillful. Only that some people can be successful with a ranger, especially if it fits their style. I’ve seen people have amazing condition builds, amazing pet builds. Few people, but not none at all. As well, you see people who are complaining, I just recently read a post from someone he said he was 100 times better skill wise with a ranger, but felt more powerful with a different class. Obviously, the ranger class fits certain players better. I know it fits me better. It’s the way i think, the way i strategize, the way i play in combat. I prefer ranger MELEE over warrior melee…and certainly kiting around with bows is easy. I don’t care as much about the numbers as the ability to remain skillful instead of spamming buttons.

I find it ironic that people constantly say ranger is about spamming 1 on sb and after the nerf we can’t do anything. But it’s totally not. The people who love the class and are able to be somewaht effective at least, don’t spam 1. It’s ironic because i play other classes, and THAT’s when i feel like im spamming buttons. Just pump up everything for burst damage and let it execute…throw down some other attacks… it’s severely boring in my opinion. With the ranger I put alot of thinking and am constantly on my toes in order to survive and also to deal damage

Maybe I enjoy putting in the effort to reach the same or similar results as other classes. It takes a lot of work I agree and ranger has a lot of issues that need to be fixed asap.

Also the way Anet is handling things really does bug me but I make do with what i have now, and I’m doing alright. Not the best, but i’m doing fine.

I don’t share all the negative complaints saying that we are completely utterly useless and ineffective and have no damage, can’t survive, pets can’t do anything and are just spamming 1.

I also don’t really care about stats and numbers that much. Some numbers appear to be great, but it really isn’t that great in real gameplay.

I agree, because I have alot of sucecss with my ranger, even though I am not a great player. But I take time to adapt to the current ranger I am given and do my best with it. I will say, I’ve played warriors and thieves. I like my ranger more.

It’s NOT about the numbers. Why are warriors, thieves, and other classes getting downed in many swarm events, or dungeons and on ward? Why do my warrior, thief and other class friends say they’ve seen crazy good rangers in PvP? Contrary to beliefs, at least from what i’ve seen, there are people who appreciate and want rangers in dungeons and other situations. Some jokingly say they want our pets as meat shields (even though we say they are completely useless) Why do they compliment my ranger that I have a lot of damage and help out alot, despite their “better” class?

I’m playing ranger melee a lot recently, our skills have a lot of evasion, mobility and onward that proves to be very effective and defensive. I don’t have this with warriors. I pull out my swords and all of a sudden i’m an open target, all i can do is try to make sure i can tank all the hits. Rangers have skills that are defensive,and alot of weapon skills that are defensive. Our dps may be not be the same. but I have enough… I have 14k damage in about 4 seconds, 1.2-1.5k with almost every hit, almost regardless of weapon. Minus pet damage. That’s less and slower than other classes… but it’s enough for most situations. The tougher the situation the more necessary i need to play my cards right and put alot of effort in. I prefer my evasion and mobiity much more.

In many cases, my ranger play has been game changing. In PvE with champs and in dungeons, I can survive the longest while other classes have been downed, allowing them time to revive themselves. I’m not particularly skillful, but i noticed in some champs and dungeon cases, other players will dodge and so forth but are still playing it like a third person view mmo and get downed… on the other hand, i notice i survive the longest, and become the last one standing when i see that it is such a tough situation i pretend i’m playing an fps. I will duck behind all the cover i can find which makes long range skills and attacks obstructed. So i cant fire but they also cant get me. I duck around and always catch my heals. That isn’t skill, its more the way of thinking.

Other times, while there are classes tanking melee range, i am in the back kiting and hitting steady damage, while the others are going down here and there, and having to stop attacking. People are surprised that I steal aggro from time to time when i put out my burst dps… and I’m able to pop some immobilize skills like entangle, and other players appreciate it! saying it was a good call and good skill. Because it prevented THEM from being downed and allowed us to bring down the boss. Those are just some aspects of what I’ve found. How are we completely useless? PvP, and WvW face offs i’m still 50/50 with success rates and still need to work on perfecting my build and strategies.

Yes our pets aren’t the greatest. But do you really expect your pet to survive in a dungeon for long? If you were your pets’ pet, would you survive long in a dungeon in the frontlines? No. You would also go down almost instantly too if you get caught in any of the hits. If players are going down instantly and over and over again, how can you expect your computer programmed pets to remain invincible? Nevertheless, there are ways to keep your pet more usefull then just dead, and that requires alot of attention/multitasking, which is difficult yes.

I don’t think rangers are bad either. I’ve been enjoying success with a power precision berserker build AND surviving well because of many skillsets that include alot of evasions and defensive tricks. I prefer ranger melee as well personally rather than warrior, guardian, thief, and i’ve tried all of them. The skillsets in my swords, i love. The evasions, mobility is just wonderful.

Many complain we have no damage and feel like wet noodles. But I burst dps quite well, not as well as a one hit 14k+ thief but i can do 14k in 4 seconds myself, if i manage to play my cards right and manage to stick to or root the target. Other strategies like positioning, the right timing where their skills are on cooldown and on wards, is all important.

Otherwise, the steady damage is also quite significant and abundant. All not including pet damage. Often, with this power build you can grab aggro as well straight out of a zerg, and that says something. People also say about levelling through the zones being much slower than other classes… But my personal experience for example in Orr, i am killing targets at almost the same speed as my warrior friends or thief friends. In swarms, rangers stand much longer because we are two targets instead of one and the pet distracts and takes some aggro away from me. We’re not that bad on all fronts

Again, if compared to other classes, stat wise we may look underpowered but it’s not thaaat bad. Many experiences, in many situations the ranger is able to remain the longest standing as well because of our survivability and smart skillsets.

So the concept may be that we do well in longer stand offs. Yes, many things can be improved, and there are very (few but) successful rangers out there with different builds, condition builds and onwards that are doing well in pvp, wvw and so forth.

It is a tough world for the ranger, but with enough effort you can make it work for now. And hope that there will be further improvements to make us even more viable for a larger majority of players with different play styles.

Lol rangers actually make good teams. if you have power built rangers, condition built rangers, AND pet based rangers… that’s insane. I’ve seen successful rangers of those builds. individually. less power built though… but together, their weaknesses will be compensated, making nicer more flawless rangers. maybe close to what is intended with the class Also, rangers with pets doubles your numbers LOL you could just outnumber the other team lol

Medium armor is dumb though. Most of it are thick coats… On a female heavy armor looks much more form fitting and sometimes more revealing than medium coats. The medium stuff looks heavier than heavy! Doesn’t make sense. Also within ur own class there are spectrums. I have a ninja ish more light armor looking medium for my character, theres also order of whispers and human cultural but it’s almost the only few avail. I just don’t see the “ethos” or rationale when we have a few light looking armor and other gear tha looks so heavy and thick, heavy armor looks a lot lighter.

If it is only the skins, I’ve seen people running around with various dungeon gear and sets from diff sources, and sometimes u can’t tell what armor class they have anyway. Casters look like they have something medium or heavy on, some heavy armor looks quite revealing or weak.. XD there is already a big range so if u can use skins of any armor, I don’t think it changes much

But still that would be rly chaotic somehow xD almost like you can do anything and there won’t be rules

Yes. Amen. I remember doing CM explore. Probably the one I hate the most just because of the darn annoying camera angles. It keeps jumping around bc of the tight spaces. So I kept it zoomed it almost all the way. Most of the time enemies had long range so it became like a first person shooter… Without the effective view. LOL. I swear if I was in first person view it would’ve been much more effective since it wa practically that anyway. Many tight spots would benefit from first person view

Perhaps but I mean if an elementalist transmute the skin of heavy armor but has to retain the light stats. That doesn’t change the game. Just changes the looks? I would love to put on some light armor on my char :<

Or perhaps it only makes sense that you can wear armor that is lighter than your class. Like heavy can choose to use something lighter or weaker. And so on. That should be our choice since we’re sacrificing our own stats. Realistically, some warriors or something may want to travel “lighter” for more mobility etc or whatnot

Uber-scale World Events for "Endgame"

Great stuff. I have the same ideas for endgame. Mega super dungeon instances pretty much xD world within a world.

But the land of Orr itself needs to be grown as well. The events need to be more interesting less repetitive, more difficult bosses and more of a real movement that shows a progressive invasion of the pact and players into the land of Orr pushing through the different maps. Right now everything seems so static and unoriginal. Events dont feel dynamic at all as gw2 is so proud of. And at level 80 it feels like there’s nothing rly left to do even tho Orr should be the place to be at our levels. We don’t seem to make an actual difference on the world and be a part of the lore and story. It’s all very repetitive once you’ve done it all.

I feel that even with mega instances and maps, it won’t feel very special unless players are able to actually dynamically affect the world around , the story and lore of Tyria. We need to see real progression in the actual map environments and also the characters and mobs. I.e. if pact is indeed invading Orr. The first month there should be tons of risen and be rly difficult to push in. More players join and hit level 80 to help the cause thru many more unique an dynamic events that fit together like real war strategies. And as such, being more powerful eventually bases are established through each map through the month. The next month with the strong pact presence we face not the same events anymore but more defensive events and scarser mobs since pact has eliminated alot of the forces (but maybe increase difficulty and potency of each mob. Ie all veterans and up.) after that if a criteria like enough runs of dungeon to kill zhaitan has been reached this unlocks a next step in the lore which perhaps can open up to these new maps and instances for some epic fights.

Not only do the mobs and events change but perhaps there should be map updates. The cleansing of Orr should actually slowly take place over time.

Namely if you see what I’m saying we need more progression and influence on the story and history. New players who reach Orr will see a different Orr than what older players had seen. This is very unique and realistic. The new player will continue to help mold it into the next phases etc

you’ll still get hit from all the long ranged, condition laying stuff. perhaps you cant use your heal skills and so forth while your on a mount, like a tonic :P more preventing game breaking mount systems

however, i think they must be different from current ranger pets bc it would make pets not unique…. like a spider mount xD sorry haha but it’d be best if they were normal animals that a ranger won’t be using. though i would love to ride on a wolf personally xD But that’s bc i have a ranger lol if i see someone else on a wolf i wouldn’t think its so fair

I agree but to a certain extent, like I don’t think we’d want weapons with crazy off the scale stats. Heck maybe even the same damage but maybe give a fourth additional stat or even just an extra upgrade slot to it. That would help and make us a bit better and make legendaries a bit more useful and worth it. Sometimes I know I feel bad bc I have to sacrifice other stats to get what I want but would love to have the vit or toughness boost. That would already be better than the current legendaries imo

Edit: OH I missed reading one of the posts. Selecting your custom stats would also work and already be enough. And I agree people running dungeons all die regardless what class, what gear and how much dps or whatnot ur doing. In the game, it is quite balanced in terms of the environment bc it just sucks for everyone lol

Lol I wouldn’t want to move at Mach 10 but slightly increased speed bit more than your usual swiftness buff. Wait or even just move permanently at the buff speed so u wouldn’t have to constantly rebuff. That would already satisfy some of those seeking convenience. Looks aren’t that important to me. I would like realistic mounts if we had them. Just a normal horse is fine. It is more realistic to be on a horse bc running from lush forests to shiverpeaks doesnt make alot of sense anyway.

Just to say, for PvE players, PvE is also stale. The end game isn’t expansive, monumental, satisfying and most of what people do now is grind and farm for gear, mats, resources, many of which is for legendary or dungeon gear…. The dynamic events are all very cookie cutter molds and on repeat over and over. And difficulty levels of things which you’d expect to be amazing like huge dragon bosses…. Aren’t very impressive or difficult.also maps once all explored makes u kind of feel like there is nowhere to go. I think the fun is more coming from people you hang with and do things together with. Guilds and whatnot. Otherwise…. Idk

So in general as hyped as it was gw2 needs a lot of work to keep players. IMO if it turns out this way it shouldve been further enhanced before launching it

But that said we also know there is a lot more on its way which should be ASAP!!! Like new maps definitely on its way since there are lots of sealed gates, unused asura gates, NPCs guarding stuff with teaser msgs and more elder dragons on the loose

But anyway bak to pvp for you

Haha yeah but I think they should be rare enough u can’t just buy thm from tp easily like with most exotic gear. Should be like dungeon gear level… Something u have to work an amount for but not as much as legendary weapons… ><

Lol id love mounts and I havent played WOW so I’m no WOW fan. Mounts would be convenient and has a great essence of fun and realism.

Does it make sense that your character is running from a lush green landscape suddenly to the shiverpeaks? It makes more sense if you were on horses persay and traveled long distances

That said, I do think some games have mounts that are too crazy. Why can’t we just have simple mounts. Like horses, maybe a wolf, or Dolyak LOLLL but something that just looks normal. It wouldn’t be for aesthetics but for a good increase in speed. It also doesn’t have to be like super fast guys. It can be just a significant speed increase. Bit more than what buffs can give. You shouldn’t be able to fight on mounts either. And no mounts in cities to block the already congested places

So why not? And I echo the comment about everyone farming CoF gear xD why does everyone have it? XD personally Im not too fond of the way it looks. But still we can have more originality I think xD I see CoF everywhere it seems like a uniform

Legendary Dyes

Might hve been suggested but it would be interesting.
We have alot of weapons and some dungeon gear with particle effects. We have legendary weapons that have skins with cool effects.

Our armor as cool as they are could be spiced up. While there might be legendary armor but sometimes we may be limited to those skins. It would be rly interesting if we had legendary dyes.

These dyes would give particle effects, or auras/glows in their colors. Like celestial is already rly rly bright, take it a step further with that and we could have rly cool armor! Without changing the skins we like!

It’s not face melting, it’s what i consider to be rather normal if you wanted it to be. People keep saying ranger has no dps and can’t survive or are completely useless. I’m saying my ranger is doing fine, not that i am a super ranger. All those things, are things other classes can do too.

But I will share, of course this is my personal build. But it’s also a common build. You may not like my build, or believe me, that’s totally up to you. I personally don’t think i’m a great player like you accuse me of. But all im saying is just from experience. and i want to be honest, word for word. People think this is glass cannon. But I manage to survive well enough, because my pet and i are two targets, and just by using the evasions built into my weapon skills and so on. For PvP, i’m still working things out so i don’t have my final build yet. Right now its like 50/50 gambles for PvP.

currently (I changed it up recently):
25 / 25 / 10 / 10 / 0

attack: 3500 without bloodlust
critical chance: 50%
armor: 2050 ish
health is 17k

Full berserker gear with rune of the Scholar.. maybe changing the rune to ranger or something else. not sure yet. I have an accessory with some good vitality, toughness
right now Berserker Weapons with Bloodlust… im re-thinking the sigils though. Might change it.

I run GS and Sword/Torch day to day and melee with ranger is awesome. Even just rushing into a swarm in Orr, is fine, you’ve got tons of aoe and dps. as long as you keep pet swapping and healing.

swoop crits at 2800 – 3500. normal attacks for both 1h sword and gs crit at 1200 – 2200. QZ + 1h sword has about 10-14k total damage. (think about it, i can have about 4 cycles of the auto attack chain in the QZ give or take. thats 3 strikes each cycle, averaging around 1000 – 2000 each hit.) thats just the sword stuff.

Shortbow crits at 1000-1300? QZ is what, 12 arrows?

this isn’t no damage… not the best damage out of all the classes but do you call this no damage?

I run sword/torch and shortbow for other situations like a lot of vets in the mobs or a champion here and there… like retaking arah events, where i need to be some what flexible. And for WvW

Dual bows for dungeons. I just stay away, kite all day, run with devourers. The rest of the team may go down and I have to run around like nuts, hopefully getting more shots here and there.

I run with wolves normally day to day. great damage, great knock downs, and because of their relatively long range leaps, they can keep up with targets a bit better. Devourers for dungeons. I keep them passive sometimes. I constantly pet swap in tougher situations. General pet strategy i keep calling them in and out of danger and so forth.

slots i run with depends on situations:

Usually – Signet of Wild, Signet of Renewal, QZ, Entangle, Heal as One

Dungeons, depends on which though – Signet of Renewal, Protect Me, Frost Trap/Lightning Reflexes, Entangle, Healing Spring/Heal as One

WvW – Protect Me, Stone Signet, QZ, Heal As One

I dont know about you, but i’m doing fine in dungeons. Perhaps its a server thing though. I know effective rangers here. And I do dungeons. people actively wanted rangers in their group. Other classes have been saying they’ve seen some crazy rangers around pvp and they are wary against rangers. I don’t think you’ve heard both sides of the story

again, these are all personal opinions. My ranger is often longest lasting in dungeons and tough pve situations in Orr, as well as game changer damage on long standing boss fights, I pull aggro immediately from champs and bosses as soon as i put on some heavy dps. where as other classes are getting down, my dps is severely high steadily when im kiting or even when i decide to melee and evading/dodging around. I don’t know about you or your build, but my build has a ton of steady dps. I don’t even need my pet to do anything.

What i’m saying is don’t be so absolute because there are players who make their ranger shine in many situations, including pvp and wvw. Rangers who take down players no matter what class.

Just because certain peoples experience is crappy doesn’t mean everyone’s ranger experience is bad. Stop being absolute and understand maybe ranger doesn’t work for YOU. but works for someone else.

That said, once again, i’m not saying there are no issues and things dont need to be improved. I’m saying stop being absolute and saying rangers are horrible. They aren’t for some players. They are extremely effective in all situations if played right

Lol that’s not hte point of my reply. Did i say you have no skill? I said it wasn’t even exactly skill imo.

I am unhappy with the issues too, that they are ignoring all the bugs that ought to be fixed and they have not been spending attention on the ranger class. I have voiced my concerns in countless other threads.

However, in our current situation, i am unhappy that all players are doing is complaining. Do you think complaining about the same things over and over will mean you get something done? If you’re going to stick with playing a ranger, deal with what you have NOW. Fight well, kill other classes in PvP if it fits your style. If it does not, re roll another class. For now.

We still hope for things to be fixed but for now, there are players who can use the ranger effectively. And clearly some do not. If these players who do well with our current ranger, imagine how they will do when things get improved on.

We will continue to push for improvements, but we will also stand by the classes that fits us best and we willb e effective with whatever class we are playing. Other classes also have issues.

Another example is my warrior friend who levelled his all the way to 80 and always played warriors in all games. However, he tried the necromancer (yes the very flawed necromancer) in pvp. And immediately he said it was his thing. He loved it and is trying to go main with necromancer. he’s wrecking players by a debuff strategy…. Certainly, it’s not about the build or skill, its more about what works for you personally

lmao. ^ it’s not about the build. There are some good builds out there. Many of us can run the same good builds. First of all with builds, not everyone will think it is a good build. But if it fits your play style and you know exactly what you’re doing with each part of it, it will work.lol

Someone else had the same build as i was but was dying all the time… Why don’t I? Why do some players 1 v 3 with rangers and WIN? Why do they do well and others can only complain?

Certainly, we could summarize and say those who fail don’t really understand the concept and strengths of our current ranger, and their play style may be better suited for another class.

For example some say they re roll warrior and love it. I play melee ranger alot of the time now… and I love it much more than warrior melee. It is so much smarter and more practical and i can almost do the same dps. not quite but almost. I don’t need the exact same thing as a warrior.

Onwards, it takes a lot of timing and strategy, positioning, keeping ur eye on ur pet. Like it’s not even just about reaction time in evading and using defensive skills.. I’m not sure what it is exactly really but play style. You know what you’re doing, it fits the way you think and go about fighting.

I’m certain some players are great at warriors, but if you ask me to play a warrior, I can’t. I won’t be able to do well with one. I won’t perform skillfully. Whereas I’m much better with a ranger or a mesmer.

I’m not sure it’s all about the science, not all about the stats, build, or even how fast you press buttons. Maybe skill might not be the right word even. But knowing the class well, and you fitting the class and what it offers, including its issues, and the class fitting your personality, your way of thinking, your skillsets

lol well i only do story, i have no desire for the dungeon gear….. guess you’re talking about explore. regardless, dungeon is still dungeon, things die fast, you don’t last very long either. lol you can’t expect your pet to last just as you won’t last very long either. Still i don’t have that much complaint about pets, i deal with it. if you were your pet’s pet, you will die too in the frontlines.

I personally put out 14k in a few seconds when i want to… crit average 1.5k per hit with pretty much any weapon… even without the pet i’m doing great lol. with the pet, which it does and can survive in dungeons, as i’ve done the dungeons with a watchful eye… ur pet is not completely obsolete. my pet can survive at least 50% of it. + i have my usual dps.

I think people are being way too absolute on our ranger forums. Just because it didn’t work for certain people, doesn’t mean other players can’t make it work and use different strategies to keep this class effective. Just like people who reroll warrior and thieves… I personally wouldn’t. I’ve tried them both, i don’t like them. I do much better with my ranger tactics and tricks and weapon sets. We need some improvements but with what we can work with, we can already be extremely effective.
