Re-Roll a new game, when the numbers start dropping Anet will take action.
Even then its not certain, Anet is throwing out alot of content, seems like an attempt to counter the rate of players dropping out of the game.

I’m always amazed at the amount of outcry on this forum, based on changes that aren’t even tested yet. A couple of weeks later, someone finds an entire new and effective Ranger build, and this will all be forgotten.
Until it gets nerfed.

How is this different then any other multiplayer game? You either adapt, or stop playing.
I’m not gonna argue with anyone today, I’ve had it and plenty of others have had it.

Rangers are a pet class if you picked this class without knowing that then you probably picked the wrong class. If ranger received a buff for not having a pet it would force players who specifically pick the class for their pets to play without pets or be kicked from groups.
Anet has already said they have not intention of adding perma stow. This may change but I would stop playing the class is they did (probably game as well).
How come necromancers aren’t a pet class? Or mesmers, since clones and phantasms are basically just summoned AI pets?
How would changing the pet mechanic make the ranger any less of a pet class, if the mechanic remained pet focused?
I’m just curious, because a lot of rangers transitioned from guild wars 1 to guild wars 2 thinking they would continue playing their ranger class, not a “pet class.” So while you look down your nose at everybody that doesn’t like something that you like, just remember that there were a lot of players that expected a lot of different things than what the class currently provides, and that the marketing used to advertise the ranger class never suggested anywhere that rangers would be forced into always using pets, which is extremely deceptive to people until they actually try the class and find out they are stuck with it.
Being a guild wars 1 veteran, I absolutely hate that rangers are forced to use the pet in this game; something that wasn’t true for the first game. It’s like a lot of really good, old ideas were trashed, in order to try to reinvent the wheel with a bunch of new, bad ideas. And, lore wise, rangers forgot how to use preparations, stances, and most of their traps and spirits, in order to gain what? The ability to always have dopey the almost as useful as it was in guild wars 1 animal always running around trying to be useful, and never really quite hitting the mark exactly where you’d want it in anything other than general PvE.
OMG someone understands.

I swapped to a Guardian last December while waiting for Anet to fix the Ranger.
Can I come home now?
Look at it Anet, look at it.
A heart breaking post, dont WvW unless you know the in and outs of ranger play or else your fodder for everything else.
Sword 1 still needs work.
PvP is mixed since the condition meta – Pve not sure – pets need work.
Stay where you are unless your looking for hard mode practice (back breaking effort) with ranger and pigeon hole builds…good luck.

This is the BEST Ranger WvW build EVER…
Its called the Guardian build…
Process is, take your Ranger press the delete button, don’t worry you will never miss your Ranger, create Guardian character…you will never look back, never after worry about nerfs, everyone in your group will love you, you can even buy the commander tag and people will follow you with confidence in WvW…
Don’t be a burden on your server by playing the NAFF, BROKEN, SUBPAR Ranger…do the decent thing…play Guardian…
I’m tempted. Believe me.

If they can’t fix the dungeon content at least they can add this workaround fix: add a trait or merge into an existing one: “Avenging Ranger” Deal +xx% more damage. You lost your pet.
The White Lion class in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (rip) had that.
It sucks for ppl that still want to duo with their pets but at least it would compensate a bit.
Not going to happen because
1. If they did that they’d be admitting they have made a mistake with the profession, no self respecting developer ever does that
2. Robert most likely has already come up with new dungeon mechanics to nuke down the pet with various ways
3. It’s too simple and easy solution
4. Dungeon runs last longer when the dungeon mechanics keep targeting the pet without any means to counter it , content lasting longer saves valuable developement hours

So, i had an idea for two elite traps now that Torment is out and about, the first idk what i’d name, but it’d allow you to place 3 traps, however if you try to place them within X distance of each other it’d destroy the previous trap so you need to spread them out to utilize the multiple placement. What the trap would do is trigger once apply Torment and Cripple.
The second idea i had (which would likely be more useful in more than just PvP) would be Smoke Trap, which would explode causing a fairly large amount of confusion and torment upon triggering and then leave a smoke field behind (them standing in the field would do nothing). It’d be very powerful and worthy of the elite slot due to the 2 conditions it applies and then it’d give us access to a smoke field which we could use with the large amount of finishers we have to cause blindness, or stealth giving us an edge.
Thoughts?

I specifically said smoke trap, not dust trap, smoke trap is an elite trap from Gw1 that applied Daze (would be too Op in this game) and blind (would be nearly worthless if it were like how the trap in GW1 operated), I’d be totally ok with a Dust Trap too that did tons of damage and just pulsed blind, but I feel that’d be better suited for a utility skill, not an elite.
Alpha strike would be a cool addition (and I hope it comes back) but it should NOT be a trap, if anything it’d be a shout.
Yeah, and im just letting you know what traps they HAD available, until they removed it. I played Gw for a number of years I know what smoke trap is.
Agreed Id prefer it to not be an elite. I disagree with smoke trap being op if implemented, We need a Equalizer. Badly. And that would be a good start.

Right… all the F2 abilities should tigger instantly regardless of what’s going on. The vast majority of them (anything more than making your pets next melee attack do something like birds and cats have) are absolutely useless.
Here’s a familiar scenario
My pet just used one of there skills.
Ok, Now I need you to use your F2 (Click, click, click, click, click, click) OMG use the f2 skill bird!
BUY ME TIME!
Arrrrrrgh
Proceeds to try and save self from useless partner
My Utilities are now burnt out.
(Click, click, click, click, click, click) Bird blinds finally when im low health.
This is not working, im fed up.

Figure, i haven’t posted in a long while but I see things still have not been addressed.
If your pet is attacking when you use F2, I think the reason it can take a while is because it has to wait to finish it current attack before it does the F2 skill. Just like with players, although generally you can override stuff to do something new but it can still take a second to switch, however with pets who knows if that is even possible.
I know for me it always waits till after it’s current attack though, which can really screw you in a bad situation. >:[
Since we have to roll with pets cause Anet SAYS so – I decided to try and make these meat-bags useful somehow but even then……
I hear ya, but when a melee decides to stick to me like glue and wont give me breathing room and my utilities are almost gone – I NEEED my bird to blind the crap out of it – ASAP, NOW, YESTERDAY – Not 4 – 8 seconds later AFTER repeated spammed f2’s

The gods have stepped back sure, but there not entirely gone.
The only thing id have to add here is that humans WONT be the first to go, they have proven that they can take overwhelming odds (for a time) then in spite… blow all there valuables up leaving it with after effects.
Also All humans possess a little divinity in them meaning feats of smashing Charr or Norn or out-smarting a genius Asura or out doing a first born sylvari is NOT impossible – Even without divinity its still possible.
Humans have faced and owned the charrs false gods …and those false gods are huge they posses greater magic and strength…..yeah humans wont go down first thats for sure.
As such How can you all forget Shiro Tagachi? He steam-rolls everyone, a singular Norn wont due, Not even a small 3 to 5 party; Nay, not even a party of 10 norn.
As someone said the divinity within humans is THE X-factor.
Id pay to see Shiro Tagachi/Varesh Ossa Vs. A Elder dragon now THATS a fight.

Just a quick tip – whirling defense reflects all kinds of projectiles, even from siege weapons, which, imho, is quite hilarious – bounce that 500 kilo stone right back to it’s source for some decent damage!
Haven’t tried this yet on the spvp map with the trebs, would be interesting to see if it works there as well – talk about surprise counter attack!
I would suggest either being able to move when using it, or reduce cooldown by at least 5 seconds.

Agreed to a degree, plus by the time gw2 has come out time “enough” time has passed by for the norn to soften up a bit, As rare as pairings are… they most likely happen. I wont say there “ALL” permanent due to the non-procreation factor but meh.

Torches work well on Thieves in my exp, make sure you get some kind of condition damage increase with that AND off hand traited.

F2 activation needs to be instant or close to phantasm attack speed (0.25 sec). The pet must not be rooted for it.
Pets should have the 30% movement speed trait as baseline to make up for their poor uptime, since they don’t constantly remove cripples or chills from aoe.
Dotted, Lined and sealed.
This needs to happen.

to me. i have pushed this prof to its max since BWE1. as someone who always plays nature based characters (shaman, druids), i feel the ranger was just so poorly executed. and it does not feel like a nature based class. it just doesnt, you can argue it any way you want. this may be due to uselessness of spirits and lackluster pets.
i have lots of success with various builds in tpvp, but im not having any FUN.
the pet is a liability in PVE. i have no attachment to my pets. theyre idiotic, unresponsive, and poorly designed. not to mention kinda ugly (except a few cool ones like birds).
compared to other profs, the ranger is just bad in WvW. i feel like i bring small things to the table. for example, the rifle warrior does vastly superior ranged dps because bullets connect nicely with the target. mesmers, thieves, eles, guards bring so much to the table. rangers, necros and engies are bottom of the barrel in wvw.
i just feel a lot of my GW2 grief would dissipate if i were to just go back to my guardian or mesmer, both of which bring huge things to team fights.
anyone else feeling disconnected from their ranger?

I’m in no way a whiner about the ranger class, and while there are upsides to having our pet that I wouldn’t deny, my Warrior doesn’t have to keep his class ability on “passive” constantly hindering full DPS just so that he doesn’t lose the ability totally.
I think a lot of people that make the suggestion to keep the pet on passive (which I do myself) forget that dead or on passive you are bringing your DPS down substantially due to the way our class works.
I hear ya, seen a few people trgt my pet for no reason other than to cripple my dps.

I have a suggestion for ya on this
Superior Rune of Melandru + the food that reduces condition duration by 40%
Its 65% reduction to conditions, They just fall off of you instantly
5:40 in that video vs a Ranger watch the conditions on me, and realize that’s not empathetic bond that’s removing them from me.

Ranger’s mobility is as good as ele/thief/warriors although it requires you to go melee and more skills than these 3 other classes to catch them.
Last night I use my ranger to chase a D/D ele overall BL map for ~10 mins and finally I got him down. It’s fun and exciting but I don’t want to do it anymore coz it’s really waste of time.The problem isn’t so much damage on our Power Builds, we can do damage..though it has been reduced (Shortbow+QZ anyone, which was a huge damage nerf) but the problem is we just lack any escape abilities worth a kitten
Ele’s can run, Mesmer’s can Run (Plus have stealth/invul), Thieves can run, Warriors can run (Great Sword Warrior you won’t catch half the time, 2 charges that remove CC)
Those classes will haul kitten in WvW away from you quite quickly and there is nothing you can do…
I have zero problem catching a Necro/Ranger/Engineer once I’m on them (Though Guardians can be a pain to catch if they’re heal based with staff, every other spec you’ll catch)
You will never catch a Warrior/Thief/Ele who doesn’t want to be caught
If you caught an ele at all, He screwed up by quite a bit
yeah, catching ele’s hitting the oh kitten button is impossible for a ranger.

The Greatsword: a weapon which allowed the Ranger to butcher Warriors, Guardians, and Thieves alike during beta, but which soon after was nerfed straight into the ground, making it utterly useless. Even after the recent minor buffs to Maul and Counterattack, it remains a secondary weapon at most, and is completely unviable as a main weapon. The damage simply is way too low, and the nerf during beta seems to indicate that Anet does not want the Greatsword Ranger to be a source of damage. But then how can we make the Greatsword as great as its name implies?
Exactly: making it a Blast Finisher.
Why is this a good idea? Because first of all, Rangers do not have a single Blast Finisher in their entire arsenal, that is, if you’re counting out the bugged Drakes, which I am. Also, it would turn the Greatsword into a weapon extremely viable for two very distinct builds: the support/tank Ranger, and the trap Ranger. The support/tank Ranger will be able to provide AoE healing by Blasting his own Water Field, while the trap Ranger will be able to provide himself and others with Might and Frost Auras.
And that is only taking the Ranger’s own combo fields in account. In group situations, combo fields are up nearly 24/7. Who cares if the Greatsword has low damage if Maul has a Blast Finisher? The weapon would become like the Guardian’s Hammer, which likewise has a #2 which is an AoE damage blast finisher and also has several defensive/cc tools. The weapon would become extremely viable, and with it, the entire concept of the Melee Ranger would be lifted up into the clouds.
This one change alone would greatly improve the Ranger, or at least in my opinion. What do my fellow Rangers think of this? And if the devs are reading this: what do you think of this?

I might not get any response for this but can you please make it remove immoblize as well anet?
Im pretty tired of not being able to not do anything about it, and im pretty sure alot of rangers are in agreement with me.
We are tired of having to always run a signet (traited) build all the time just to stop people from locking us in place.
If we must make signet builds just to counter immoblize…might as well lower the CD on the signets and make the effects longer for goodness sake.
We have no legit immoblize removal (aside from Empathic Bond in WvW a pet alive at all times is impossible), A few seconds is the difference between life and death.
Hell even making signet of renewal remove it aswell can save time.

As far as im concerned meeting a random norn on a cold cold mountain is almost akin to a death sentence.

They SEEK battle (more so the younger norn) and if you look remotly skilled you can bet your kitten your gonna have to fight off a 9ft tall behemoth.
