So rangers, i have discovered yet another hidden feature behind our prof (because our tool tips are soooooooooooooo accurate xD).
It turns out that not only does Evasive Purity remove Poison, and Blind, but ALSO removes chilled, i’ll have to check out if it removes any more conditions than the tooltip says and let you guys know!!
Just thought i’d inform you guys of this because i’m probably the ONLY person who plays a NM ranger xD
O_0 huh srsly?
I gotta test this, if it true great find Zilla Im crossing my fingers!
Btw your not running a spirit build are you? Just asking.

Ok its ma bad on axe nr 5 thing but i did read about it on the forums. Yes i think that thievs are op because it is one clas in WvWvW that I simply cant kill 1v1. Is it because i am a noob like someone stated , or thievs do have better pvp skills than reangers? Someone stated in this post that we have better doened skills than thievs lol.
“LICK WOUNDS” 99% of the time when i am downed is on cd , and i cant simply use it. On the other hand mesmer elementalist and thievs downed skills let them escape or delay stomp almost every time.
Traps are our best friend , hmm maybe but dont forget that you can see were ranger set his trap if you have this option selected in settings.Check the other thread where other rangers said they have no problem fighting thieves.
Also, watch the video a ranger just posted on 1v1 vs a thief in spvp where he owned that thief.
Not sure what your problem is…
Many rangers still have issues with thieves, Its gonna take time for people to do better.
In the mean time guys some pointers
I never leave the keep without lightning reflexes…….. specc’ed.
have a decent amount of toughness.
Battle Awarness, know where you are – Know your terrain; know who and what are around you.
(currently culling can give you problems – so take short stops while running to give your client time thus granting you time to avoid the invisible zerg coming your way)
Fight in places where you have the advantage, do not fight in the middle of kittening no where or infont of enemy keep >_>
Great sword #4 has a block ALSO evey 3rd strike with GS it evades {power stab}
Sword gives you access to 1 dodge couple it with the dagger and you have 2 dodges.
If you see 1 thief and a swirling shadow Kitten run, you run. Or warp. Dont stick around. That thief is not alone.
Put your keep warp into chat via shift key + right click – save it for those oh crap moments.
Traps work sometimes (I had mixed results with traps)
The Torch offers you some nice anti thief help via Bonfire, specc’ed its even better.
Thats all for now I guess.

Play ranger if you want a challange (in WvW atleast), Your gonna be singled out, rangers are known as free kills, If you dont want the problems that come with the class
pick another.

It’s major problem on the wvw field is that it is in a fixed position, so it’s great if your defending a keep or tower and are one of those servers that thinks standing on the walls watching the gate or wall disappear is a good tactic, but for open field play bunching up in a small area so you can heal and losing mobility isn’t so great.
Even in smaller fights, you can usually spot the ranger using spring and either move out of range or if his party stay in range of it they probably aren’t hitting you, run around a bit then murder them when the 15 seconds is up or aoe the ranger.
It is quite useful if you are attacking a keep and people are bunching up under the door- but then that isn’t the best of tactics from them as it leaves you wide open to a portal, rush, or any number of bad things that happen to bunches of people in wvw.
Exactly.
In most of my fights I HAVE to move – Spring does no good to me when im being rushed by a thief (that 20 sec recharge on HaO, is looking real good right now.)
I also notice people seem to focus fire on people in springs, its like a hot spot for please kill me.
Edit: Troll Ungent SUCKS it does not even use all of your healing prowess and only last 10 seconds…………… :\

This made me “lolz.” I think ANet’s intentions ran counter to how the game played out(echo). W3 may have been created as a casual-pvp map for casual enjoyment…but that’s not how it plays out now. It’s actually way more popular than sPvP, the reasons aren’t that important for this thread. What is important is keeping players coming back to the game. And W3 is a large part of that.
Judging from the quote above, I daresay that person doesn’t play in W3 much. Yeah you don’t “introduce” yourself before battle in real life, but if you both live through a few engagements you know who it is you are fighting…just attach your own name to him/her. Same with W3, we just forget how they look a week later. But more importantly, it impersonalizes everything. I feel less inclination to fight nameless mobs than I do a tried and true enemy. Yeah, sPvP is supposed to be where you go for that, but why should good competition be relegated to small-group small-map arenas?
And claiming towers for your guild as an incentive?? Towers, and usually keeps, flip so fast it’s pointless to get attached to them. The guild buffs are nice, but hardly a key element. The majority of players in W3 are of a competitive nature. ANet can say they want it to be a casual affair all they want, but the fact is that is where the good competition migrates to. Probably because of the flexibility of it. You can have large zerg clashes as well as small-group or even 1v1 fights on the same map. New players, no matter what game they play, are going to have growing pains. Yeah, they may get yelled at for taking supply out of a keep to build a ballista facing the inside wall(example
), but they learn fast. I’m not sure what game the above person is playing, but W3 is not a casual PvP zone. Whether or not that is what they intended is irrelevant at this point, successful games listen to their player base…or go the way of the dodo.
A very simple solution is here: let the player have the option to toggle on/off their name. Personally, I don’t mind getting griefed or singled-out by other players because I’m an easy target(ranger + slow fingers lol), it’s my own fault for being so easy. I just don’t get why “pvp” and “casual” should go in the same sentence. One is competition based, the other is entertainment based. And let’s be honest, W3 is pvp, whether or not you choose to believe it, or even if that wasn’t its original intention.
Let us see who we are fighting, or in my case, who is killing me. =D
Id op for a rival list, you know a list of people who killed you/people you killed/almost draw – Both sides must agree to have it so you can whisper each other for a rematch.

Only thing I have seen so far BP begging maguma and devona to ally with them and seems maguma favors BP. They almost don’t attack each other’s BLs and when BP gets attacked by Maguma and Devona they start whispering trying to make deals. Maguma also only achieve something when they outnumber enemy 2:1 with golems and avoiding fight letting BP Devona fight while they PvDoor their stuff on other side. Devona might stay or fall from this tier due to getting double teamed but in the end Devona will be the one going up when match up changes.
LOL nice try.

Rangers are one of the easiest professions to win against in WvW, 1v1. They can’t spike you, they can’t escape, they can’t take a beating.
I recommend d/p #3.
Your right, to a degree. With the right skills a ranger can spike, escape AND take a beating. >:)
Besides that.
Good. Some rangers are slowly making progress – To my fellow rangers stop going Glass Cannon you make it too easy!!!!

Warrior is by and large the easiest class to play with a variety of builds. A Ranger won’t see the high damage that a Warrior can because they share DPS with their (often difficult to control) pets.
^ this
If you want high damage fast then glass cannon ranger is the way to go……I never go GC btw, cant do it.
I’ll try it one day…but for now rangers are too easy to kill.
You want more escapability? go warrior, in and out of combat like clock work.

Rangers in Guild Wars 1 had some of the best skill bar compression in the game. On any given competitive build, a ranger could pressure, interrupt, remove conditions, block attacks, heal, and even spike assist (most tourny builds weren’t setup for pure damage bars as it wasn’t necessary).
Rangers were strong team options from the support they could provide as well as split and solo base NPCs for the team. Also, this could all be accomplished with a single skill bar setup and basic attribute distribution. Rangers could effectively hold their own against any class in the game, and while most skirmishes with a tourny bar setup (by this I do mean the damage/utility elite, 2 interrupts, apply poison, lightning reflexes, natural stride, mending touch, rez signet) weren’t going to outright kill other players, there really wasn’t a single class rangers had to be afraid of either unless that class were to focus you long enough to make you blow all defensive options available (which usually came from more than one player focusing you than it did an individual player).Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have rangers. Its has a Shaggy/Scooby Doo class (an implied stoned guy who can barely accomplish anything useful and his equally ridiculous pet sidekick. They exist purely for others entertainment and in terms of doing anything useful, can basically only get in the way).
Then again, what do I know, it isn’t like I played guild wars 1 for almost a decade exclusively as ranger with most of my time going into pvp or anything…
Still, opinions are opinions.
Perfect. +1

Unless I cannot.
Lightning Reflexes, I cannt stress this skill enough its even better if you have it specc’ed.
If your Power/Toughness/vit specc’ed — Greatsword + Qz if there glasscannon you’ll melt there faces off. Use the GS #4 to block and counter them for the lols, Gs #5 to stun em if possible.
Signet of stone speec’ed grants you 6 seconds invun, minor time for you to think and act.
If they mass cloak with the little house on top, Use your longbow barrage in the field – (this can be a risk in itself) If you have a great sword jump in there and spam your GS# 1

So, I’ve been out of the game since Halloween and am looking to get back into it..
For the ranger I’m looking to play in my Main hand, either a Sword/Something..or Greatsword build..
Now, I have no idea how viable these weapons are, so, I’d like some info regarding this…
What kind of builds should I be looking into, how should I spec for armor, jewellery, weapons etc?
Thanks in advance

The skills we have now are a shadow of what they once were.
Anet is for profit – going in to re-purpose the ranger back to it original form would be bad for business. And it would take too much time….
We are stuck with the 250 year class demotion.
I miss being able to wield a hammer/scythe if I wanted to (Even After Nerfs)……I miss the Original Whirling Defense (Not like it is now)
I miss my +30 Armor Vs the Elements.
I miss having build variation, having so many skills meant that you never got bored of playing the same skills over and over and over again.
Now skills are tied to Bow type……yeah….
Choosing to carry a pet or not.
I never had too much issues with taking down other classes even the ones that went Anti-Melee.
GW1 ranger skills revolved around Survival, Interrupts and Expertise.
I miss Melandru’s Resliance, I miss Burning Arrow, Antidote Signet(OMG) Multiple Nature spirits to choose from……. I can go on.
Point is, Gw1 ranger Bonifide Survivalist. Gw2 ranger? Some person that decided to pick up and use a bow because it seemed cool- then made up some flashy moves to compensate.
And now that I think about it Anet always had issues with bows….anywho….
Anet that was me going easy on you all, I have not forgotten the recent patches.

Every 10 sec SOR (passive) removes 1 condition, EB does the same(every 10 sec) only that your pet has to be alive (Im not 100% that it removes ALL conditions or just 1 havent played ina bit.)
Thanks for the post, but are you reading the descriptions for me or have you tested this out with a friend who hits you with a condition, then waits 2 seconds and hits you with another, to see if both get removed or if the first condition put both skills on cooldown?
You can try it yourself if you’d like to be sure, but yeah I tested SOR.
EB (again have not played ina while…so not sure if it does more than 1 condition or not)
Forgot to mention SOR passive removes condition in 10sec’s, Activating it removes the condition ASAP then its on CD.

No thief I fight will let me get them past 50% health without disappearing, and when a thief vanishes like that, you don’t stick around because they’re just waiting to recover and strike again, and I have cooldowns going, I can’t just play the reset game like that. So I swoop right out of there and don’t look back.
In my experience, when a thief decides a 1v1 fight is over.. it’s over, and you go home empty handed. It’s almost not worth fighting them—I just play it as a minigame.

I only fight them if I have no choice, other than that its the avoid game.

looking at your build there is no reason you should be losing to a mesmer, you’re pretty evened out in defense and offense (a good thing), your skills are a nice set up… I’d say it’s more you need just general help vs mesmers (which is common because fighting a mesmer isn’t the same as fighting any other prof in pretty much any game -i’ve- played.).
1) As said above call targets, but don’t -rely- on it.
2) Spam F1 on the real mesmer every time you get them targeted to get your pet to stop attacking a clone.
3) if anything dodge rolls, strafes, turns, runs away from you, moves after/during it’s attack (exception of the sword) it’s not a clone.
4) If you’re using your great sword swing constantly, never stop, even if you know the real mesmer isn’t nearby, sure you may get hit by random conditions, cripples etc, but that’s a hell of a lot better than what they can do with a shatter.
5) if you see 3 mesmers that all look the same running at you, hit 4 on the great sword, or dodge roll through them to avoid the shatter.
6) if the mesmer throws a lot of confusion on you don’t freak out, just don’t attack, chances are if they throw 10+ stacks of confusion on you they rely on conditions as their damage and want to have you burst yourself down, just wait, don’t heal, don’t attack, just run away and let your pet eat them until it drops back down to ~5 stacks, then heal/continue the assault.Hope it helps.
^ this.
But I generally get the drop on em – dont give them the time of the day to unleash on you. eek.
Raven, Jaguar, Wolf, – Raven does the most damage(it has terribad defence tho); Jaguar for stealth crits; Wolf for Knockdown/cripple, Howl for battles you cant win..to try and escape.

stowing pets and gaining from it…now that opens up a whole can of new ideas and i wish it had been thought of earlier.
you stow a pet and your skills are altered based on the type of pet you stowed, kinda like you become infused with the pet’s spirit. stowing a bear buffs up your melee abilities, gives you some defense as well. stowing a jaguar gives you more hit-and-run type abilities. stuff like that. This is the best idea I’ve seen, that compromises the no pet option while keeping the spirit of the mechanic alive. I would love to see this happen.
For those that say pets are the thing that makes a ranger a ranger…pets make a ranger a beastmaster which is only one of their trait lines. Not every ranger has a pet…some are scouts, snipers, masters of nature spirits, experts at setting traps, and solitary hunters. The fact that I didn’t have to have a pet in guildwars and could focus on marksmanship instead made the ranger my favorite class to play….I haven’t even bothered to play one since beta because I don’t like playing a beastmaster, and that’s what is offered in the current incarnation of the “ranger.”
Interesting, pet abilities on stow, access to there skills- that would be sweet…….so so tasty….

Regarding our SotH, 25% movement speed is pretty useful, but I like my utility slot reserved for a better ability. Currently I use sword/warhorn for mobility and distance, and coupled with Runes of Speed, who can beat 40% movement speed with 20% increase in Swiftness duration (other than a traited thief)? And, this speed is also applied to my party AND my pet (from a distance, using 15 points into NM).
Signet passives are great, but I like quick utility CDs, so unfortunately 120/96 CDs for a 6-sec/10-sec ability gives me heart palpitations.
Agreed.
maybe a 60-70 sec CD instead for balance?

For a short while He spread his “legend” Among the Norn……..Females.
To this day skaalds sing about the swiftness and expertise of a Human Elonian Ranger that fled the North Shiverpeaks chased by a Mass Of Norn Women Looking to prove there “strength” to the “Ravaging Imp of the sands”.
Of Course not before training his own Apprentice’s that Forever Bare his Name and Mark.
After that Adventure, He Lived Among Ventari and Roman for a while Acting As a traveling Book seller venturing to all lands to spreading the word of a place were all races can live in peace without war.
Feeling His age creep onto him he bid farewell to Ventari and Roman setting his sights on the Orders of the Whispers, Holding the title “Master of the Whispers” for a short while.
After realizing the world will need heros more then ever due to dragon threat, he stashed his vast accumulation of wealth in the Eye Of the North for his kin.
Finally Feeling grenth calling within his aged heart, The Old Ranger made one Last trip to the Henge Of Denravi….. Once there in a last Act of Defiance Against the Death god himself.
He sacrificed his human shell to become a druid.
His children have always known guidance in dark times thats for sure, his form has allowed him to do so in time’s of great peril.

As much as I dislike Asura, Zojja would win. She is an Elementalist. In lore, Elementalists would wreck almost every opponent, of course not in-game because of balance and game mechanics. The only other magic user in Destiny’s Edge is Logan, and he still wouldn’t stand a chance against an Elementalist. An Elementalist vs a non-magic user is like a super hero vs a normal person.
Magic powers or not – A sword in the gut is still a sword in the gut.
But to get the sword in the gut, you would have to close the distance. And by that time a elementalist would have… Well you know.
Thieves say other-wise
No one in Destiny’s Edge would realistically be able to take on Zojja, or any skilled Elementalist. They can reflect bullets and arrows, so ranged attacks wouldn’t work either. You would have to sneak up on them while they were sleeping and if you wake them up you’re dead.
Sneaking up on them is one way.
Ranged attacks are still viable if an Ele dont see it coming.
If we count The Flame legion as a mostly Elementalist heavy hoard, your statements dont have much weight, not to discredit you. Everything is situational.
