Why is silk going up in price?

But the TP already provides that function. Just type in the amount of silk you need, and check its gold price. You now know how much gold you need to buy your daily silk.

But not everyone wants the answer to all their in-game needs to be “go buy it on the TP.” Not everyone wants to play this game like it’s the Home Shopping channel.

Exactly. That’s the problem it’s TP centric and I’d rather play the game and get rewarded then farm gold to go buy something someone who wasn’t affected by DR just happened to get one day!

To add to my earlier statement I’d also like to add that several other functions were added to another game that was AHcentric in it’s design. I won’t mention the name because I don’t want this post deleted but here is what they did:

They added the ability of some drops to be presents for other players that you can send to your friends/guild mates. They added a 100% increase to drop chances ie if it was 2.5 chance to drop it would then become 5% for certain must have items to function. They removed certain items from their AH before closing it and made those items rewards from doing normal everyday and sometimes quick activities in the game (the equivalent of dailies in GW2). They added twice as many cosmetic items. They gave several items the ability to increase gold drops from enemies like rings and jewelry something that’s considered a side item usually when gear is considered. And they added several vendors that uses currency akin to Karma and boosted how much this currency players would get when they played so it would mean something.

But also they had things in another game they developed that made sense in the long run. They added vendors that used currency akin to karma where you could directly buy materials that in GW2 would be considered Tier 5/Tier 6 materials. Orbs, etc all of the hard to get items could then be bought by players at a significant cost to this currency yes but it also allowed players the ability to use their currency (something other than the harder to get gold) to buy the items they needed to build the best gear rather than relying on the auction house for these items or the rare chance of them dropping.

It’s definitely something to think about.

Item's removed from game stil on TP.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

Problem is a lot of those items up there, are most likely items left by players who no longer play the game. See unlike other games the items in the trading post don’t expire and they never go away unless the person who puts them up finally decides to take them down.

So the problem is not the long lost items. It’s the stagnant accounts that put the items up to begin with.

I agree. But there are hundreds of them on the TP. ANet needs remove them.

ANet doesn’t need to remove them. Trading post is free market with a floor. The floor being items can’t be priced at lower than vendor price.

We players determine the prices of things on the Trading Post. If you aren’t willing to pay X for an item, then don’t. Wait for it to come down, if it does at all.

If ANet had wanted price ceilings on items, they would have put them in.

Ahem cough a “free” market would exist in a game without limitations on loot. Free is free therefore nerfing farming locations instead of allowing the so called free market to handle the influx of materials naturally isn’t free. It’s regulated. And don’t get me started on currency coming into the market from an endless outside source aka gem to gold conversion.

Suggestion: Engis and Strongholds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

tigirius.9014

Just watched HoT strongholds and I’ve gotta say that it’s interesting how they did that. I liked the looks of it myself it actually sounds like many of the PVE only players liked it as well.

I just had a suggestion though.

Early on in the beginning of the game there was talk in the suggestions folder about making the engineer a bit more useful in the BGs and I think you have a new chance at doing just that again here in this expansion please don’t miss it.

It’s required to have those skritt bombers open the door, why not make explosive engineers do a bit more damage than the rest when it comes to opening those doors.

When I was watching all of these videos on PVP I never see engineers outside of those who are using turrets or the FT, not a single one is doing anything other than WvW, so I gotta say I wonder if there is a huge lack of engineers in tPVP and if so, wouldn’t it benefit your game to include them in some way?

The suggestions folder was filled with people making suggestions about the engineer having faster building times for turrets, and other such skills which would increase their number in these pvp events wouldn’t it benefit the game to have engineers bringing extra skills to these scenarios under certain conditions (like actually being speced for use with explosives so that explosives do more seige damage or actually being speced for tools in order to have a fast seige building time in WvW?

I’m no expert at PVP and I don’t claim to be but I think it might help the class by including the skillset the class’s name suggests it has.

Bleed should just do extra damage if something is at 25 stacks and you try to place a new stack on it. In fact I think this should apply to most conditions like burning and poison as well.

As an example let’s say the bleed you try to apply would do 1000 damage over 8 seconds. If the target is already at 25 stacks, just make it hit for a flat 500 damage or even the whole 1000. Call it a condition critical or something.

I don’t think this change would affect pvp too much because how often is a player running around and living with 25 stacks of bleed. But they could disable this “condition critical” in PVP if they are really worried.

This could be extended to include all of the conditions and adjusted as it has been in games like Rift to not affect PVP at all but only affect PVE gameplay especially in open world events. They’d have to do some major reworking on how support works for some classes as well as make some major changes to how traits work so that for example, if you increase to max on a certain trait line you’d get crits on conditions like they should be etc.

Now that they have an expansion coming and they have the means we’ll see if they can make these changes so that the rest of the game can be fixed.

PvP has separate equipment yes

No it doesn’t

Feature pack and Gear Unification ring a bell?

All PvP equipment (armor, weapons, amulets, etc.) can no longer be obtained or equipped.
Upon entering Heart of the Mists, players will have their PvP items removed from their character inventory, character equipment, PvP locker, and account bank. This includes PvP chests.
All removed items will have their appearance unlocked in the account wardrobe.

Characters in PvP will use the same armor and weapons from PvE.
All items give zero attribute, rune, sigil, or infusion bonuses in PvP.
All items function as level 80 exotic-quality items.
Chest, leg, and boot armor still contribute to the total defense value.
All attribute values are consistent with the old system.
PvP gear now includes unique rune, sigil, and amulet slots.

And don’t forget the need for Ascended to remain competative in WvW.

First off, ground turkey is amazing. Ground turkey makes you strong.
Secondly, a wild rant != good feedback in any situation.

Let me ask a question, if you could farm silk specifically, but slowly, so the price remained what it currently is or higher, would that be better or worse?

Well I think it’s not that you have to farm it it’s how it happens. If you removed the need for the double RNG with the sacks of goods across all gathering and made it so that salvaging was the preferred method of obtaining these materials I think it would be less of a problem because the bags have double RNG in them, there’s a chance to get the bag and there’s a chance to get the items you need from the bags.

We get blues and greens constantly with other methods of farming such as finding chests at the end of jump puzzles or hidden throughout Tyria, surely there’s a way of making salvaging more useful so that farming bags wouldn’t be required, I think that would help the rewards system alot because it would make it as if people wouldn’t notice that they are farming it would just happen in the background while they are picking up loot rather going out and doing specific things ad nauseum such as farming gold.

Also I think making some of these items use (as it is now) useless leather types that you can’t sell on the market right now for anything would make a big change especially if it were balanced so that salvaging would produce a similar number of those leather types and then of course you would change the other crafting systems to include leather rather than having all three armor types globally use silk, this would be the way I’d handle it that way the price for these items would be the same, salvaging would be the preferred method of getting those (so there would be a use for the rest of the world chests again filled with greens and blues oh and the veterans) and those people who are chronically affected by DR wouldn’t have an issue getting the materials we need.

Crazy isn’t looking at things objectively with historical precedent and determining that there’s a pattern here, crazy is brushing it off over and over again and thinking that certain explanations for these behaviors are actually the explanations for what’s happening.

RNG doesn’t make loot or rewards disappear, it makes it drop something else entirely. DR makes loot disappear. It’s really that simple.

Vanilla GW2 is Dead when HoT releases:

Gating exists in every game the only time it ever becomes a problem is when it’s unreasonable. There’s another title I can hold up as an example that recently added specializations however they left repeatable content in their title and people naturally took advantage of it. They since nerfed the xp from this content and then made it extremely lengthy to get specializations. This game requires you take 3.5 years (literally I’m not lying) to get your specialization for one character.

I’m hoping Anet doesn’t do that here!

Welcome to the ugly side of DR.

This happened before in the past. Whole dungeon runs on all three paths suddenly stopped dropping a single treasure chest.

When this happened before people didn’t resist it they knew what the culprit was and they demanded it be fixed but I think we need to go a step furter.

DR needs to be removed entirely because when have you ever played a tabletop MMO or a console game and had it retroactively take away the loot you just found?

That’s exactly what DR does in this game, it makes it gone.

Oh and to those who keep saying it’s RNG, RNG actually let’s you get something, it might not be what you want but it’s something. DR makes it so that that something doesn’t exist for you and in the case of their account system, doesn’t exist for your account.

Any chance you could sanitize and then give me your tinfoil hat? I need it for a brisket I’m making tonight. Events like Teq and Wurm do NOT have DR unless you specifically farm those events with a single character who remains parked on that map indefinitely. Also, go read the patch notes about the dungeon changes that removed duplicate chests from dungeons (ie the ones you can get BEFORE you select a path).

Furthermore, how many times do you need devs to come on the forums and say absolutely zero information about your account affects your drops, like, imploding the known universe because you divided by it, zero. Seriously.

They came on here for 9 whole months telling us that the loot problem we had was all in our heads then too but it turned out to not be. How many times do you have to be mislead whether intentionally or not before you learn when you’re being mislead? Learn is the key word here. It’s happened before twice now. So tell us all again how it’s our imaginations when it’s the same thing three times? yeah….I thought so.

Exactly what did they make them into?

If it’s mostly open world stuff I don’t see a problem. If it’s easy stuff again I don’t see a problem you see because people often forget that there are more players here than just their community. I see it all the time in MMOs all over the net it’s not the first time.

If it’s more than that I’d like to know because saying they should focus on dungeons is a naive thing to say really. You haven’t looked at the latest demographics for the PC MMO market have you? It’s obvious, here let me help you, it’s mostly casual players.

That’s right, casuals care nothing for dungeons. So if the problem is simply just a lack of dungeon focus then I’m afraid you’ll just have to get over it. And before people attack me I am a casual.

Who would have thought I would be defending one of their decisions to change something hmmm. :P

You don’t have to be an expert to recognize a bad deal when you see one. No one does.

Again, that’s just a LACK of expertise and perspective that leads you to that conclusion. I can understand why expensive silk is a GREAT deal for people ingame. The challenge for the devs is to see ALL of those angles and choose the one that fits the game the best. This is not a black/white issue and the solution isn’t just some trivial change. There might not even be a solution if it’s not perceived as a problem for the devs. Think about that.

No it’s not it’s simple recognition of a bad deal. Quit trying to validate your point by making wild assumptions about people. It’s quite black and white. Every major MMO economy out there has displayed this kind of behavior until those other developers learned from experience what NOT to do. This is what NOT to do and Arenanet despite their immense experience as you like to call it, has had a history of doing what they shouldn’t be doing.

I suppose you’ll be telling us all next how much DR has helped the community, how DR the one thing that has destroyed whole MMO companies because it does exactly what it’s doing in this game (Creating unlucky accounts) is somehow a benefit too right? smh…. Cmon now, common sense please.

Wow. It’s ironic that you say DR destroys MMOs, when it’s one of the key mechanics that keeps inflation in check. You have no idea how bad this economy would be if I could farm the same amount of stuff 24/7, with no slow downs what-so-ever.

What does destroy MMOs are players who feel Entitled to getting the best stuff, when they want it. I would personally love it if I could get Dusk each time I threw in 4 rare Greatswords, or knew exactly how many tries it would take to guaranteed a drop. If we players got what we wanted all the time, this game would be dead within the first year. There’d be no replay value, much like using cheat codes on a single player game.

Exactly where has it kept anything in check in this run away crazy train of an economy? Where? By your logic it would have corrected everything all by itself and there would have never been a need ever for their continued efforts of nerfing known places to farm items.

If DR did it’s job according to you, there would have never been any need.

The next myth you’ll tell us is that it’s prevented all chinese gold farmers from ever logging in. smh Amazes me what people believe sometimes.

It’s done 0 for the economy the economy was perfectly fine before two things happened to this game, the allowance for multiple accounts to end up with not one but multiple precursors during the island event without a rollback, and the creation of DR + the ongoing attacks against legit farmers.

That’s led to the type of economy and the TP centric nature of this game it’s not the other way around mate sorry.

Gem Store needs more Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

It definitely does!

The only thing I disliked about the store is the fact that the gem conversion to gold has directly affected the TP centric nature of this game. It’s terribly bloated the economy and the silk thread talks alot about this issue!

But I have always supported games both console and PC with purchases of skins. It’s absolutely fun full time to get those things for me. I can’t express how this should be the direction of the economic structure of this game!

More skins would eliminate the need to have such a TP centric structure in this game it would eliminate the need to buy gold and it would make the earnings more profitable because many of us left because of the way the economy and loot is now.

If they added more skins more useful items and no I don’t mean boosts it would make for better earnings and give the game an honest outlook for the future after HoT.

Not to mention the fun things we might be able to get. For example, I want non-combat activities to do. I want things like fishing, hunting, taming, housing. If I took just one item from that list, let’s say fishing, and talked about the things one needs when fishing there are rods, nets, a fishing chair, umbrella, cosmetic outfits like overalls, a lumberjack shirt boots and gloves, lures etc.

Talk about a whole store full of items right there. I’m amazed that no one over there is thinking of these things really.

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

The price of scraps has been higher in the past. It’s at about the same price as it was July 9th 2014. Seems like a normal fluctuation to me.

As far as why it takes so many more scraps idk, I didn’t agree with it back when they changed it, but I remember reading that it wasn’t a mistake. I don’t see why it should change now that so many have invested the time and resources to make cloth armor.

The drop rates on cloth do increase with various events (wintersday gave them out from the dusty clothes for example). Too expensive for you right now? Just wait and see what the next event brings and save your gold. The stat difference between exotic and ascended armor is very small anyways.

im starting to realize, that most of the people disagreeing with fixing silk/ascended, are basically just trying to protect their current racket.

Is that so unreasonable? The people wanting it changed are protecting their own interests as well. If you’re an astute light armor users … you ALSO benefit from silk prices.

its very reasonable(reason dictates that you look out for your own best interests), but its also a very bad mechanism for deciding whats good for the game.

essentially, its short sighted. silk being unbalanced in design is not improving the game.

It’s simply a matter of perspective. Yours is from the POV of a light armor user trying to make ascended gear. Mine would be more along the lines of providing goods to people on the market. Anet has MANY perspectives. The difference is that I trust that Anet uses all the perspectives they can think of to make a reasonable decision on how the game should work and I have no reason to think that hasn’t been done here. I don’t trust players to think like that, not even myself.

Silk isn’t unbalanced in design because light users need more of it for ascended gear. That’s a very limited aspect of it’s uses, that statement borders completely ambiguous to me. Seems to me you’re just cherry picking silk use in ascended as SPECIFIC example to make your perspective on the topic seems like the only meaningful one, therefore making is seem the resulting conclusion that silk relation to ascended armor is wrong to be obvious. Not everyone is fooled by this.

I have to parrot JS here. we got 8 pages and nothing compelling to indicate a change is needed here. Price isn’t a problem. He’s also said little about the unbalance between silk in light vs. other armors. Changing that is not an economic issue, it’s purely conceptual.

Its not really about me getting cloth cheaper, its about having a good design. I dont really intrinsicly trust that anyone is anything. Going off of the history of the game, anet has made some misteps.

Yes of course … no reason to trust Anet. The average forum poster has a way more indepth knowledge of good MMO design than any experienced developer of MMO’s made up of teams of knowledgeable, experienced people with a game concept … PUHLEASSE!!! That’s nonsense and its make us all dumber for reading it.

This is NOT about good design because frankly, I doubt you or most of the other people posting here have any clue about what makes good design, especially in online RPG games. Trying to paint this as anything BUT a cost issue is just lying. If that’s true in your case, then you are an exception. Other people care WAY more about the cost difference for light armor ascended than they do of some notion that this needs to be changed in the name of good game design. What a crock.

You don’t have to be an expert to recognize a bad deal when you see one. No one does.

A character who summons spirits from the mists .. Not quite dead yet .. Sounds vaguely similar to the mechanics of a Ritualist but that “name is already taken” …

Shiny eh not so much

The devs have seemingly going to great lengths to not say spirits when describing the Rev’s skills, instead using “Legends”. So the revenants aren’t actually summoning spirits from the Mists, but I would probably describe it more like a manifestation of a legendary figure and his/her/its deeds in which the Rev draws strength from.

I kinda think of it as the Rev summoning the Mists’ copy of the cliff notes version of that person/legend, but like most Mists related thing in GW though, it a bit hard to describe.

This wins the award for best post due to the reference of doctor who!

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Actually I would argue that the ability to farm does directly affect the prices in the TP and if you have an insane amount of scarcity on a resource especially one that is so essential to everything necessary in progression, it becomes more than a simple price gauging issue for the masses.

It’s been a long known issue that farming even for the most basic resources is downright crazy in this game and it’s nothing like it is in any other title out there, and we’re not even talking about something that should be rare here we’re talking about silk. Silk not dropping off of humanoids that were once normal is about as frustrating as hooves not dropping off of Zevras which is a well known example of what’s wrong with this type of mentality.

When you’re fighting furry creatures shouldn’t they drop fur? When you kill an animal shouldn’t it drop meat 100% of the time?

The same goes for silk, cotton, etc it should drop there shouldn’t be a chance for it to drop. What do the clothes just disappear from the dead humanoid?

To me that’s as central a topic in this discussion as to why silk would become so expensive in the first place really. This isn’t gossamer we’re talking about here it’s silk. Normal basics shouldn’t be made rare just to preserve the failing economy, it should be fixed at this point because it just doesn’t work, countless years of MMO development history point to that fact.

if making ascended was easy, everyone would be super strong, therefore nobody would be strong, besides, you should be happy only a few things are expensive for high quality stuff lol, would you rather they just up the price of EVERYTHING, or would you rather just have 1 part expensive

More like forced inflation combined with false resource scarcity due to funds coming in from outside of the economy via the gem to gold conversion based on the new excitement over the expansion.

For me it will add something that’s been much missed in the Zerker Wars 2 and that’s trinity lite. The ability to put together a baseline trinity group if we so choose. All we need now is a rebalancing of the support roles so that they are more effective and that no class is left behind when it comes to support and all skills scale properly with +healing and bam it will be a reality.

Paygated new boons and condis

Actually despite the protestations of the masses about the precious, this is already a reality. Many of the runes/sigils are drops only and with the horrible state of RNG in the title it’s pretty much behind a pay wall to begin with by having people pay for gems to purchase gold (especially new players). Been saying this for a long long time now but apparently people don’t have the capacity to think for themselves in these cases because this seems to be a sickness that’s spreading across all of the MMOs out there to date. There’s a new breed of gamer as well that feels there’s absolutely nothing wrong with requiring real life payment for items that should be available to everyone in game without a DLC cost. If this went to console that wouldn’t be a reality any longer.

Taunt is bad

All I heard was “taunt is bad because CC is bad.”

Nah.

That’s what I keep hearing too. Taunt does nothing to this game but make their statement “play the way you want to play” come to life because it adds the option of adding the trinity to your team.

Now all they need to do is make support/healing worth something and balanced on all classes that have healing and bam people might actually not have to be all Zerker all the time anymore and there would be strategies! GASP! OMG someone might actually have to think!

OMG yes people will have to think! Tank stands in a place and button mashes keyboard, following optimal rotation to keep threat while sleeping, Healer on the other side of the mob, tries to keep tank alive by pressing a couple of healing skills while eating dinner, while carefully trying to avoid passing the tank in the Threat counter.

DPS characters just follow their rotation while semi-afk. OMG such pro skillz and tactics! GASP so much thinking!

Please see this

Before posting about thinking.

I know you are trying to be sarcastic and all, but I will advise you to carefully read your sarcastic post before posting it public,

Because your words may have the opposite intent for your goal.

The video is a response to the post claiming “there is no thinking” in the game. He was also claiming that trinity will make people “think more”, while it certainly won’t, trinity has the opposite effect in “thinking”.

you mean besides the #1 smashing Zerker zerg meta we have right now? yeah I think you might wanna reconsider your words just as they warned you …mmhmm smh

I want to thank them too!

Please continue in this direction! I would love to see support/healing brought up to the levels it should be in order to further this direction you’re taking. We definitely need the option of trinity lite. It’s been sorely missed and it might actually break up the ongoing plague of Zerker everything. It might actually give us a strategy!

The only thing I think will make that so is if you move forward with enhancements to the support classes like a trait that also allows for grenades to heal instead of just bombs on the engineer or traits across all classes that help with condition removal of your team mates with equal work like one button skills instead of three.

That to me would be a huge help and it would be welcome. We might actually have a game with choices and with options and finally with strategies!

Taunt or how GW2 becomes WoW

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Really? Taunt? What’s with you dev’s? Its not WoW, not L2, its game with unique experience, where we don’t need tank/healer/damage dealer trinity.

Let me fill you in a little known secret. There is such a thing as Trinity Lite. It’s lite because it’s optional. Players CAN put together teams of the three but it’s not necessary. Thus by adding these things they are actually finally fulfilling their statement “Play the way you want to play”

If they finish the complete remake of PVE from the bottom up that is! They have alot of work to do!

Slow: or how Anet screws over PvE

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

tigirius.9014

They are finally FIXING PvE. With enemies being able to apply this condition as well, there will be a POINT to run supportive sets in PvE content. This means there will be more accepted build diversity in Dungeons/Large-scale PvE content because something OTHER than pew pew will be needed. You will likely be able to make a viable build that is still full glass (if you actually enjoy that) and just bring some party-support utilities/traits, but this sounds like a step in the right direction in terms of game balance.

I think the point is this. All or nothing. They need to complete the fixes this time and not half fast it like they did in the past! That’s what I got out of OP’s post and I completely agree!

PVE’s been on the backburner for years now it’s time it’s fixed from the bottom up all the way through and they now have the time and money there should be no excuses when launch day comes!

I still don’t understand what was so bad about gw1 pet system that they couldn’t bring most of it over. It was challenging and rewarding to tame new pets, and they had their own traits that you could manipulate.

For some reason all of these devs out there think that those methods weren’t fun, even in the elephant in the room, Beast Mastery is terrible compared to it’s glory days in the past. Everything is homogenized now in games.

I want a pet sloth for my ranger.

When you summon it, it just lays there for a minute then fades out. During battle, it occasionally drops from somewhere above to land on the opponent for damage, then when it hits the ground it just kind of rolls away and fades out again. F2 skill is centered on the Ranger and puts all nearby enemies to sleep for 5 seconds or until hit.

((Jokes aside, I would like to see some of the pets suggested in this thread. Tigers, lions, raptors, maybe a fox or coyote… Honestly, at least one new animal for each of the pet types would be reasonable.))

I want a giant pet sloth so that it takes forever to swing at the enemy….

It’s a good argument, but not worth the cost in my opinion.

And to be honest, some of my characters are just not as good at clearing things as some of my others, but they’re still fun to play. I want to be able to unlock Masteries with my “good” characters first, to help along my “for fun” characters.

That too is a problem and until they take PVE combat balance seriously it will remain even after the launch of HoT.

As much as I’d like to see this I too doubt this will happen and not because I naysay but because of the track record here with this team. Just look at major issues in the game still untouched like the economy and rewards and PVE combat…all untouched problems that have plagued this game from the beginning that have never been fixed.

I’d like to see this happen but something tells me there will be a whole bunch of hype with very little substance coming.

Druid shapeshifting

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

tigirius.9014

Why would the Druid transform into animals ? Druids in GW are more about plants and nature spirits.
It might be possible but Druid doesnt always mean transformation. Don’t take WoW as a standard for everything.

I disagree. Druids are based on Real Life Druid culture, and Druid culture deals with both Animals and Spirits of nature…

And real-life druids did not change into plants, animals, or spirits. They were ordinary human beings bound by the same natural laws as everything else has been since the dawn of our universe. I’m not understanding what your counter argument is supposed to prove in order to get shape shifting druids into GW2.

Druids are going to be rangers who can use staff skills, and/or a few different utility skills, and possibly a different elite skill (which could be a shape shift, I suppose, but you’d only get to change into one other thing every 180-240 seconds for 30-60 seconds). They’ll play just like any of the other profession already in game.

Technically that’s true however they did have that as part of their lore in which they did become part of that world by transforming themselves, it’s all over that lore as well as other nature based lore where we read of legends of men who became the animals who were their patron guides.

I don’t think it should be made to be part of the combat structure but I do think they should make it a part of a new set of travel options considering that we’re supposed to be getting these specializations by our experiences in the jungle. It would make sense that way.

It remains to be seen if they will actually fix their pay to progress model they have now in which loot is so terrible the only means of progression for new players is to either grind out gold or buy it from the gem exchange in order to progress by buying the drops from the TP.

Please make Masteries Character-bound!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

No thanks.

We already have character-bound-hunting with traits. And character bound skills too. I have absolutely no interest in yet another character-bound system that would just mean I have to replay X amount of content to get back to where I started.

This! ^^

We already have a character bound system for world exploration achievements, we have it with other achievements as well which made no sense whatsoever in the development of the original game especially when trying to do things like build a legendary weapon.

If anything since they are making legendaries more available in this they should redact their original design requirements to make the map available across all toons by using a system similar to what SWTOR uses in which all characters on an account can be made to come from the same family name so that they can share the data like map exploration from the same account. That way it’s visible to all characters and achievements like the one needed to make a legendary can be used by all characters.

I think it’s amazing that this hasn’t happened before. It’s just another way that they didn’t do things in a new way until HoT to set their game apart. The current system and the one suggested by the OP is the equivalent of having character bound reputation systems with character bound gear options once you reach max reputation with a faction. It’s not welcome in games that are truly supposed to be on a different path.

Anet still no word of Build saver

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Truth be said, this kind of feature was far more useful in GW1 than in GW2.

In the original Guild Wars, gear did little to define your stats. In GW2, in other hand, most of your stats and half your skills are defined by gear. So being able to change your trait points and skills around wouldn’t make as much difference as changing your equipment around.

Hardly it’s very much necessary here for even the most basic of needs. Take the underwater combat for example something that didn’t really exist in GW1 like it does in GW2.

The traits themselves for underwater combat are sometimes completely different than the traits for the on land combat specs. So when you jump into the water and you begin swimming it would be nice if it would switch out your traits to those that are required for underwater combat just as automatically as it does your mask and underwater weapon.

The same goes for when fighting boss fights or fighting solo. Right now, conditions work okay for solo but the moment you get into a zerg fighting a boss it simply doesn’t help at all. Same goes for support, when you get into 5 mans or do tanky stuff support works great until you get into a large boss fight and then you need to switch. It’s poorly designed at the most basic level and one of the things that will help is the ability to switch specs with ease.

Some people were hoping for this for feature pack 2, but sadly it never came. It might not even come out with HoT, so i wouldn’t hold out hope. It’s too bad we can’t switch out our stats on exotics or ascended too.

While I’m absolutely on board with the “don’t hold your breath” notion, it still begs the question since they destroyed their suggestions folder, why it’s not in the game.

In games with talent trees etc, this system is an absolute must for the QoL of modern mmo design, it’s as much needed as a wallet is or storage access everywhere.

They’d definitely have to make it a solid set of options for it to work because I can tell you that it doesn’t do well unless it is solid when in that form.

The Beorning class in LOTRO for example isn’t that solidly built so it causes some problems for players when they swap out forms during a fight and it might cause some problems here.

Now if it were done as a means of faster travel without combat in mind THAT in itself would be an awesome addition and it would be completely welcome imo I think it would work better than having combat options while transformed because that would mean they wouldn’t have to balance combat again for these forms.

It would also replace the mount issue for rangers in which there is an abvious need for mounts in this game but Rangers would have a faster run speed/swim speed while in these forms.

I would love to see them do this but I also wonder exactly what they can do for all classes to give us all a faster option for non-combat travel without teleportation.

Change many of the standard shots on rifle to shoot out rockets that explode with the option for traits that make their explosions larger. Change turrets to include rockets instead of standard shots (like bola instead of a net, rockets instead of rifle shot, and grenade launcher instead of the flame turret that makes fire ground zones).

Have to agree we need full on gear switching, trait set switching, I think they could do it easily for PVE with 2 specs on land and one spec for when you’re swimming the third of which would automatically switch everything out when you have the status of swimming happening.
