No. Since the beginning, there were no strong classes archetypes in gw2. Since start all classes were able to provide their own healing, speed, bufs, and deal some kind of cc, dd or condi damage. This absence of archetypes is actually one of the key features of gw2. If you like classic rock-scissors-paper archetypes, this is not (and have never been) your game.
And yes, elite specs are OP compared to pre-HoT classes, but that is working as intended. Elite specs are there to make users buy HoT, not the opposite.
SO… the guys on these teams are the BIG DOGS. They are the Lords of Lethality, the Sultans of Stomping, Purveyors of Points Taken and Held, and Grand Masters Of Mayhem.
And according to THEM, Mesmers are the second most favored and dangerous Class in the Game. Second only to Revenant, which is only what, three months old now?
So acording to the pros Revenants are the most OP class but you want to nerf Mesmer instead…

Yes, if you lose games in unranked matches to lower your MMR (this shouldn’t work, but I’m afraid it does).
Ok so if I get it right, the players that win most games are punished with harder and harder matchmaking. And the players that lost most games, are rewarded with easier and easier matchmaking.
No wonder some people is exploiting the system in spite of fairplay.
Bunker mesmer does no damage and cannot really hold points (using distortion prevents points capture). Actually bunker druid, bunker engi or bunker elementalist do the job better.
Thief still counter mesmer in individual fight. Only that spvp is NOT 1vs1, it is about capturing and holding points. The reason why thieves are bad in spvp is not because they are weak fighters or anything, but because their skills are not suited for holding points (although a good thief can still make himself useful using his mobility). It has nothing to do with mesmers.
Oh, and mesmers are not really dominant in a world where DHs and Revenants exists.

Aparently some people is losing certain amount of matches in purpose in order to lower their matchmaking rank, so that they can get better matchmakings when they want to get several victories in a row. Is this how the system works? Is it that badly designed? Thanks for your answers.
This will never be a balanced game, so don’t expect they to disable the ranked system just for that.

You are right about Chronomancer and Druid being good at that for a while… but since they produce no damage, they are doomed at the long term when their skills get in CD. DH plays in a different league than the other classes and eventually will destroy them.

The game is not balanced around 1v1. All this would do is bring more QQs. Custom duel servers already have plenty of banned amulets and builds.

before you make statements like this the amount of everything they got is insaneContinuum, shield 5, Gravity Well, Gravity Well, shield 5. Feel free to add any other CC you want but you shouldn’t need more than 10 seconds, maybe mantra plus trait for an easy starter.
And none of those skills do any noticeable damage, so hardly would you kill a Druid or DH with them…
Mesmer is one of those classes that don’t require Elite spec to be effective, since Chronomancer does not increase your dps production. Chrono is still great as CC for group support, but if you want some dps go classic Mesmer.
This elite skill basically sux rigth now, with its cc being so easily avoided and now doing no damage. Time Warp is much more usefull to me, except for its cd that is really very long.
Those tests do not seem to reflect real fight situations, when you are moving around and using other skills. Most of the time you’ll get just a couple seconds of alacrity, which is barely noticiable. Also you give up many of your dps production when you focus your build on producing alacrity. In my experience, alacrity is far from being OP.
I love playng a mesmer in pvp because nobody ever kills me and I can take down new players in litterally 2 seconds and veterans in 5 seconds. Im unkillable because the stealth is ridiculously long … etc
Really? Can you produce 20k damage in 2s? And you are also unkillable too? Well, you obviously are trolling and/or you don’t represent 99% of Mesmers in game.
Considering that the invulnerability from Blurred Frenzy was removed and Distortion only last for 1s, whilst the other professions have invulnerabilities for at least 3 or 4s, I think Distortion should have a duration of at least 2s (not asking to have the same as other classes. That would be too balanced).
I’m not playing beta. But when I enter sPvP I have to face beta players in there playing the new class specs. I just don’t get why normal players should serve as guinea pig to beta testers playing OP classes we have no access to.

Well, when looking back at the initial Mesmer class all I see is that Time Warp attack speed was nerfed from 100% to 50%. Confusion damage was nerfed by 50%. Staff Chaos armor was nerfed not giving protection on skill use anymore. Blurred Frenzy not giving Invulnerability anymore. Phare Retreat not breaking cc anymore, etc… Sorry I’m just finding hard to see how Mesmer is better than ever.

As for pvp, since the 23. july the whole gamemode became a bit … imbalanced. But the true balance there will most likely start with HoT. Even tough, in pvp the Mesmer became much stronger within the last few months.
And pve, oh boy, we even deal acceptable dps now. All our mantras have become AoE, mimic is an acutal useful skill and our traits no longer cripple us like when we were forced to trait into the vita / healing power traitline and missing all the offensive stats.
Mesmer finally became a strong on pair class and is no longer a pure portal and time warp [female dog].

I started playing mesmer at launch. After a few months I quitted playing for more than a year, and now I’m back in game.
I see many changes have taken place… for worse.
At lauch mesmer was one of the best classes. Now is one of the worst.
Several classic builds like confusion or reflection are a total crap now. They only viable build I find seems to be shatter, but still is not up pair with most classes. I’m having a very hard time soloing most other classes (except thief which has been uterly destroyed as a class even more than mesmer).
Correct me if I’m wrong but mesmer now seems to have at the same time the worse dps and the worse mobility in game (not considering portals), plus wearing cloth armor. Do you feel the same or am I totaly wrong?

Head and shoulders are from the WvW set.
Oh, and for the #6 healing skill I would try out Mirror instead of Ether Feast (for the shorter CD). Just a suggestion.
Staff is working more and more for me. Tried it a bunch tonight.

Interesting build. My suggestions rigth now:
- Put in the torch or sword a sigil of smoldering (+15% burning duration), since burning does lot of damage but have short duration.
- Put in the armor 4 runes of air (you’ve got the swiftness on healing plus Lightning Strike will not break your stealth any more) + 2 runes of Lyssa (precision + 10% condition duration).
Since the recent nerf on confusion damage, mesmer stays a very unbalanced and need reajustment.
The problem with the recent fix is that the mesmer have so many traits and skills that depend on confusion, that the nerf affects most of mesmer builds (shatter builds, condition builds, glamour based builds, etc.). So now we need a fix to fix the fixing.
A few ideas to tune up the mesmer again could be:
- Phantasmal Mage (torch skill #5) should produce burning instead of confusion.
- Scepter skill #1 chain now should produce confusion (since scepter seems to be a confusion specialized weapon).
- There are runes that increase condition duration for almost any condition (burning, poision, bleed, frozen…) except confusion. So maybe add a new rune into the game that increases the duration of confusion.
- Etc.
What are your ideas in restructuring the mesmer?

I know, but I was refering to the mesmer role in WvW. For instance, I think mesmers dont usually use much siege weapons… anyways I wanted to know your opinions about it. Thanks.

Correct me if I’m wrong since I know nothing of the ele class, but as far as I know you can’t have 3 (or more than 1) attunement running at the same time, right?
Well today we got this ele in a spvp tournament. In the screenshot you can see he’s using Air, Earth and Water attunements together. Plus he was permanently buffed up and constantly moving with uberspeed.

There’s a problem with this. 1v1 in this game is not balanced at all. Two builds will rise above all others: Mesmer condi build, and d/d ele. These are the two best 1v1 builds in the game, and most builds don’t even come close to killing them.
I think a properly specced Thief can destroy those two. And Guardian may outlast them all. But yes, 1v1 in this game is not very balanced.
Nerf Mesmers. Problem solved.
Mesmer portals (and other mesmer skills) have already been nerfed in recent november patch. No need to nerf it anymore.

No other profession produce the damage of the thief.
No other profession have the survivability of the Guardian.
No other profession have the AoE damage of the Elementalist.
No other profession can tame and get new pets like the ranger does.
Etc.
Mesmer strenght is below other classes in almost every aspect:
Mesmer have low direct damage.
Mesmer AoE is basically inexistent.
Mesmer running speed is lower than half of the classes in game.
Mesmer wears light armour.
Etc.
Mesmer still have a few tricks in his hat tho, like his clones (that are very easy to identify and kill) and the portals. If you get rid of them there’s nothing left to him.
Portals are of one the few skills that makes this game different. But people seem to dislike anything outside the classical class stereotypes.
And increase the area a little bit. Now that the last patch broke the GS build, something should be done to fix it. Right now Mind Stab is not worth using it in any situation: it’s like having one less button in our skill bar.
My suggestion would be to revert Phantasms back to the way they worked before the last patch of November 15th.
The just should have edited the name. No need to suspend the account. Over-moderation can kill a game faster than most bugs.
Our real “AoE” used to be the Phantasmal Berzerker. Now we have none.
Retaking the opening post idea, many of us didn’t see Phantasmal Berserker as a bug, but just a way to compensate the class for the lack of AoE and the obstructed LoS issues.
Yes it was a bug. No attack targeting a player directly in the game is supposed to ignore LOS. Hence the fix this patch.
That would be the case for casted attacks. But (I though) Mesmer attack were supposed to be “mental” attacks that could therefore surpass walls.
The nerfing/bugging they just did in the last patch was enough for me. I will wait till they revert the mesmer to his previous state.
First, this thread would likely be deleted for containing “Anet” in the title (at least, that’s what they did it to me).
Second, the mesmer in beta and after game release was the result of the class design. But the last patch is not the result of the design but a “fix” to satisfy the complains of players not playing mesmer that are unable to deal with the mesmer’s phantasmal zerker. So what they did was to totally break the GS build and mechanic.
No, it’s not a challenge to make the class harder to master, but a mistake that just makes a branch of the class weaker.
