I’d say the sword is fine the way it is, what it DOES need however is the ability for Dodge to take priority over #1s animation, if i’m mid animation and hit dodge, it should dodge, it shouldn’t not do anything.

the only time you can land all 10 is vs a stunned target or someone who runs away from you in a straight line. at 1000+ range you can literally just side step the arrows.
i fail to see how being able to do 12k dmg over 10 hits compares top being able to do 7k in 1 hit and be able to do that move repeatedly as a thief can with heartseeker.
a simple stun 2, 2 combo for 14k dmg will kill most players easily.
First of all, 2 heartseekers rarely kills people, and unless they are under 50% health, they wont do nearly the 7k damage you keep saying they will. In fact, above 50% you’d be better off autoattacking. What you consider a weakness in a continuous channel I consider a strength. Blind will only last for 1 of the shots, a single block will only block for 1 shot, and it will follow a stealthed thief for almost the entire duration of stealth causing them to have to burn dodges in addition to using stealth.
Loading all the damage into 1 attack in the case of heartseeker means it can be easily negated by the aforementioned methods. In addition, rapid fire is a ranged attack while heartseeker is a melee attack. Ranged attacks will never be as powerful as melee attacks because they do not carry the risk that melee range does.
so you talk about blind and block when i mentioned neither one of those things and ignore the dodge which i did mention and which is the skill that causes the majority of rapid fire to fail.
good job. i can’t wait to see what you come up with next to defend thieves.
and add more dps. the pet is useless. it can’t even catch up to most targets even with 30% movement speed (kitten?) and dies in seconds.
rapid fire should be 5 shots instead of 10 at the same dmg and long range shot should do the 1000+ range dmg at any range (i see the idea for pve but you’ll never be 1000+ in pvp (come to think of it not often in many dungeons either) so you’re being kitten for no reason.

i fail to see the difference between a mount that does 33% movement speed and a speed buff, except that mounts are kittening awesome.
it would also help balance the classes with virtually no swiftness and those that can keep them up 24/7.

i do? no, i don’t use greatsword. i use longbow and sword/axe. i said GS 2 is our highest hitting skill (except maybe path of scars after the buff) and that it hits about 3.5k in full zerk on most enemies, compared to the 9k a thief can do. it seems rather lackluster doesn’t it? i wish i could hit greatsword 2, 3 times in a row and hit 7k with it each time like a thief can with heartseeker but that would be OP wouldn’t it? even considering we still wouldn’t have stealth.
i’ll complain until anet listens and actually tries to balance the game. if it takes 6 months then it takes 6 months (i wouldn’t be surprised if it does).
If you use Long Bow then you know rapid fire can do up to and over 12k of dmg with the press of a single key. I know, I play a ranger specd for crit/cond and my longbow does that plus some because of the cond dmg
of course, and it also does that dmg over 10 hits that may or may not crit. considering that a dodge will negate 67- of those shots, you don’t do any dmg at all.
it has the potential to be cool as long as the combat is kept to a minimum.
you can just run the dungeons in whatever you have.
Ranger is one of the most tanky classes in the game, even in full zerkers.

how do i do damage to someone who is invis other than with a lucky untargetted aoe? also what aoe do i use as a ranger? i have barrage on longbow, nothing on shortbow, nothing on sword, nothing on horn, nothing on dagger, nothing on axe, and nothing of GS. i could run traps, and hope the thief steps into one but unless specced they fall at your feet. the flame trap that is probably the best dps trap will only activate when the thief is right on top of me (unless traited but that’s even more based on luck than untraited) and the terrible burn dmg will surely pose a threat to the thief who hits me for 7k+ a hit!
then of course the thief will simply stealth again in 3 seconds! wahoo! and my pet, who will never land a hit on the thief also provides the thief with an extra target to stealth off of.

i don’t think that’s fair. sure the guy that plays 20 min a night can keep up, but is that really fair? you’re punishing the people that play more to cater to the uber casuals. in the end everyone loses.

thieves have absolutely nothing to worry about when they run GC, unlike every other class. rangers have absolutely no defense in GC and they don’t even get heavy DPS to compensate for the risks.
if you think that is fine you’re oblivious. rangers should not be forced to run bunker merely to survive a few seconds longer when thieves can parade around with heavy rewards and 0 risk.

The ONLY people impacted this are the ones that abused stealth to begin with. Otherwise those of us that didn’t abuse stealth won’t really notice it. I run with blinding power, shadow refuge and even C&D some myself and I know it won’t be an issue. I already space my stealths out, I don’t want to be that perma-stealth abusing thief that has zero skill outside stealth. Of course I can see why those that do abuse it are upset, now they need to actually learn to play the class and won’t see huge numbers because they will have to pick up some defense.

So basically, if a thief uses cnd comes out of it and gets hit by oooh i dont know… how about 3 ranger traps where the ranger has condition damage trait of oooh… 1.2k… so the trap ticks a very nice amount of dmg… well the thief now has to wait 3 seconds for their Hide In Shadows to be of use even though it isnt on cooldown… wow yea that makes lots of sense. Lets keep a Ranger from using Healing Spring for an additional 3 seconds past the cooldown of the ability just because one of their trait line abilities gave them regen… wow the fire that would be fueled then.
only a thief could complain that he has to be visible for an extra 3 seconds while dishing out 7k heartseekers and 9k backstabs!
if you die in that 3 seconds, you’re unpseakably awful.
Not every thief deals that much damage with those two attacks. Those thieves are what we like to call Glasscannons if they do that much. And he’s complaing since we get punished now for using our heal or when our Last refuge trait kicks in, which he has every right to.
sure, just like i have a right to complain that i only won 5 million in the lottery instead of 20 million, but the only ones who care are the other lotto winners. everyone else just thinks you’re greedy.

the commander icon in general lacks functionality. you get a “squad” (read: mass of people) that nobody uses because it’s just bad. it isn’t even a party… i don’t even know how to describe what it is… people can join but you don’t know they’ve joined and there’s no party UI. and you get an ability to see supply. how handy.
wait? WAIT? we’ve been waiting for MONTHS. i know that feels like a short time for the thieves wtfpwning everything in sight but for the classes that keep getting shafted every patch it’s a kitten long time.
How is making the gold required any less legit?
The lower health amounts —> a glass ranger has about 14k hp. is that extra 2k hp going to save you when thieves can do 15k in 2 hits as evidenced by the SS above?
the single target nature of those builds —> a 1v1 is a 1v1. ikittenerg they just run around 2 shotting and stealth stomping. such a downside!
the loss of other forms of defenses to utilize these —> you have invis every few seconds. that’s the best defense in the game. i’d love to see other classes run around 15 people all day.
the fact that the main defense many of them need isn’t actually a defense against competent players (read: not you). —> how is it an issue of competence when a class lacks any skill to counter it and has 30% of their dps coming from an AI that is braindead?
You do not roll a ranger and expect to tank like a guardian so why do you think you can roll a ranger and expect to damage like a thief? —> dumb because a guard does no dmg in a full tank build (400h on guard so don’t tell me i’m wrong) while a thief has more defense than a guard ever could by virtue of being invisible every few seconds and still having insane dps vs the tank.
a class should not have the best burst in the game and the best defense. sure a warrior can do a big killshot… but it takes a long kitten time to cast and they are totally out in the open while doing it. nothing can stop a 5k steal + 8k backstab + 7k heartseeker from stealth except a lucky dodge (and dodges don’t stop heartseeker spam).
edit: oh did i mention the pet is also a free invis in addition to its inability to hit a moving target and total confusion vs a stealth class? it can’t even start to run towards the target before it is gone again.

i can tell you’ve never played a ranger. barrage crits for about 1k in zerk exotics at level 80.
if by some miracle the person is too stupid to move 2 feet in any direction, it will still not hit him 12 times.

why should one class be heavily rewarded for running with no defense when others are totally punished and have terrible DPS to boot?
all i’m trying to do here is make the devs stand up and acknowledge that they have a completely broken class here that is miles and miles above everything but mesmers and d/d eles.

Uhhh…yes I can. First of all, glass cannons are really…really…bad to play for a ranger solo. Glass cannon rangers just in general don’t work in pvp, especially not solo.
If you want to play a glass cannon “ranged” class, go warrior. Put on full zerker armor and you’ll be hitting 10-15k volleys and 20k killshots on crit. You can literally one-shot (I mean shot) thieves (and your glass cannon ranger) with that kind of build. How does that kind of damage suit you? Warriors wear heavy, so they have slightly more damage reduction, have 20% more health, and their utility options don’t suck compared to those of a glass cannon ranger.
I was a glass cannon ranger once. I got 2 shotted by thieves, but of course, you can read the long tl;dr I posted just a few posts above.
TL;DR thieves aren’t OP and you need to l2p. This is coming from one who subs a lv 2 thief ONLY for spvp.
i’ll summarize so the others can also have a laugh:
only thieves and warriors can run glass canon because warriors have killshot (IE: the most useless 1v1v skill ever). since every other class is outclassed by a glass canon thief they shouldn’t try and should go bunker and try to survive thief strikes without hoping to kill them.

Two days ago, killed two thieves 2v1. Both level 80, not upleveled. WvW
About 30 minutes ago, go jumped on by a thief while I was at 30% health. Hey guess what, i won without even healing. Also lv 80 not upleveled in WvW.I can give you all the anecdotes you want. They don’t constitute evidence any more than your anecdotes of you being killed evidences thieves being OP.
For the record I play guardian, and yes, there are plenty of thieves that outplay me. In my experience, people like you think thieves are OP and try to play one not realizing that everyone can kill uplevels really really easily. You guys become the type of people that I destroy above ^. Yes, I’ve been totally destroyed by every kind of thief build at least once, they are good players, I don’t cry OP. I’ve also destroyed every thief build at least once as well. They don’t go on the guardian forums crying about guardians being OP.
Sorry, I was extremely proud that I beat that thief at 30% hp and I needed to chest thump (altho he probably let his guard down thinking I’d be an easy kill at that point)

fact is thieves can run glass canon and have more survivability than any other class along with the most damage. other classes get actively punished for running glass canon because they can’t go invis and run away to compensate for high dps. if a glass of any other class gets caught unawares they die. if a thief is surprised he stealths and skips away.
thieves could take a 50% dmg reduction and they’d still be amazing. if a thief doesn’t win in a 1v1 right now they must be really bad.
also play a glass canon ranger. it’s a glass canon thief without the canon or the defense from invis.

Each hit of Double Strike (the first auto-attack in the 3-part chain) hit you for 1k, and Wild Strike (part 2) hit for THREE THOUSAND. What on earth were you wearing? Paper? Might as well have run in to battle in the nude. There is something seriously wrong here.

I originally thought the boxing gloves were silly and no one would want that in the land of Tyria, but sure as the sun rises in the east, I saw someone with them.

Well you can’t have the best of both worlds. It’s either stealth every 3 seconds, and do negligible damage, OR do insane damage by popping most, if not all of your cool downs, meaning having no escape mechanism if your initial attack fails. Also note, that insane damage is applied to a single target only.
