signet of the wild, signet of stone, quickening zephyr/lightning reflexes, RAO
Since you’ll be dead if you get caught anyway there’s not much point in running defense imo. When they rush you can use your invis, swap to GS and swoop out/block with 4.
I just pop everything and plink away with LB. I swap between eagle eye and piercing arrows depending on the fight.
Would be impressed if it wasn’t a thief.
They are account bound because this game doesn’t have a gear grind.
wait a minute something is wrong here…
This leaves one skill doing bare minimum around 8k damage after a double dodge negating most of the damage from this skill alone.
This is probably the 3rd most shockingly kittened thing I have ever read on these forums.
congrats!
I duel in OS on a power ranger and I can tell you it is awful vs thieves. In a duel I know the thief is coming but it’s still a lot of luck to dodge the inital burst from stealth. If they SR right away i have to guess when to avoid the burst and they have all the time in the world to set up.
Since a glass ranger is extremely glass that burst can often take you out before you even land a hit. This is why rangers are meat to a thief in wvw. They come from stealth and you’re dead in literally 2 seconds. Duels are much easier to win than wvw fights and I still get ganked often.
Ranger can win if they manage to mitigate the inital burst and then get a good knockdown or RF into stealth but it takes a lot more skill to do that than it does to hit a massive combo from stealth.
Obviously in open field while you’re busy doing other things a ranger plinking away hurts but 1v1 a thief still has way more advantages than a ranger.
overall ranger is still behind if we ignore the longbow. The other weapons are thouroughly “meh”.
Thanks for the tips! I need a drake, or tanky pet to be my condi sponge… So I switched to reef drake and so far, together with the wolf it has been pretty darn good.
The reef drake skill is nice but wouldn’t it be even harder to land because it shoots in a cone instead of a tracking projectile?
do you entangle and then use it or what?
Apparently 10k (if lucky with crits vs a full glass opponent) over 10 hits (assuming they all land) is OP but a 9k arcing slice is not, 7k rush is not, 8k+ backstab is not, a massive shatter is not, 6k life blast is not, 6k heartseeker is not etc…
Could go on all day but there’s not much point because the people that hate ranegrs are just the worst of the worst.
Banners and phalanx strength are essentially all the warrior is used for in groups so if they aren’t complying with bringing what they’re expected to from you, you should probably just kick them…
What a horrible mindset that creates a toxic community. If it’s a pug run, the players should play whatever build they want. It’s a game not a job.
While i agree to a certain extent with this there are limits. Obviously a pug group is going to be a long long way from a coordinated speed run but “i’ll play how i want” and “i’ll be useless to my team” are completely different things.
I have no problems with people running a “tank” guard with mace/shield or “heal” ele when i join a fun run group. The problem is when you find these people in a group called “experienced players fast run” and then they resist changing.
The point of grouping for dungeons is to play with others and i have no idea why you’d intentionally kitten your party because “i’ll play how i want” (in this scenrio you know what you’re doing. you aren’t just a clueless newbie). If you want to do that then create a party to do it in and make it clear. Don’t join someone else’s run and then fight when you get asked to change.
I’m against this idea. The uniqueness of Eternity comes in part from its association with the day/night cycle; remove that and you have sunrise (or twilight), with a few tweaks.
If you could switch between always day, always night and current state, you would not really be losing anything. Or is there some reason why you feel like other people keeping their weapons always in one state would negatively impact you?
it doesn’t negatively impact anyone obviously but changing this would take development resources away from areas that legitimately need fixes… and we all know there’s a hell of a lot of them.
There’s also the fact that you chose to acquire a weapon with a day/night cycle. Maybe next time you won’t get something you apprently don’t like? You knew exactly what you were getting when you got eternity and now you’re unsatisfied with it? well too bad for you. You were not misled and there’s no surprise here. Take your eternity and go home.
Create a weapon with a day/night cycle… whine about the day night cycle!
this playerbase though.
Which is hilarious because ranger still isn’t really in the top tier and will be beaten by any moderately decent player running pretty much anything except maybe in a massive empty field. The problem is the terrible people stand there and eat a 10k rapid fire (literally 10 hits) without doing anything and then act like they got "1 shotted).
Attention. Just dropping in once again to remind whatever pugs are browsing this to stop taking signet of might over a banner of strength and fury over discipline.
I know math is hard but 180 power/precision for you is not as good as 170 power/precision and 170 condi dmg/ferocity for the party. But apparently every second warrior thinks it is (dat extra 10 power/precision doe.) and will resist swapping it as if their life depends on it.
That is all.
wvw is the game’s main selling point?
wha ha ha ha ha what?
Agree.
. . .
I run full zerk with ranger runes and sigils of fire/air, 6/6/2/0/0 traits for zergs and small fights… mostly because it’s my pve gear but also because if you’re camping at 1500 range you might as well go for dps. Survivability is fine providing you are aware of what’s going on and run back early. if you position yourself well you’ll be fine. if you dn’t move fast enough you will get wiped. Just move early and don’t get caught.
as for roaming… well 1v1s are a joke anyway. If you run into your counter class you lose, if you run into a class you counter you win.
when played well they are fine but lacking for pugs. I use my ranger for regular dungeons sometimes or for fractals when i’m too lazy to swap my trinkets back over
Unless your party is kittened (often) they will know that frost spirit (traited) and spotter are good.
Personally I prefer running warrior because i pug everything. Why?
1. banners don’t die and can be moved. spirits can’t move and die in seconds even when traited to have 100% more health.
2. you aren’t able to stack might for yourself very well. In pug group you will often have groups that don’t stack might. Warrior can stack might for itself.
3. less survivability than a warrior. pugging usually means looking out for yourself, which warrior does very well.
4. pets are still kittened (especially since the most recent patch rebroke them) and will run right through aoe and everything which gets them killed. oh well.
it’s easier to play ranger badly than it is for other classes and relies more on the party to help it out but it is still very viable.
I have to agree. it’s bad enough mobs attack passive pets when i run past. Now they go ahead and attack regardless of being set to passive which is utter crap.
they should be giving us full control of when they engage not this half and half garbage.
Got kicked once, must be a “fear” climate.
lol.
No joking, I got hit by a 10k ranger autoattack once. It hurted. ( I still have no idea how he did that. Even with sig of the wild, sig of the hunt and moment of clarity, that’s one big auto attack)
Then I came on the forums, complained and.. wait, no. I just dealt with it and learned to pay attention to what was around.
this happened.
I guess i haven’t had enough bong hits to understand why you’d make an expensive thing when you know what features it has then kitten about the lack of features and demand it has more
floats away
Is this a surprise? does anyone actually like fractals? idk about anyone else but after doing hundreds and hundreds of runs and getting a single ascended drop i can say that i want to get in and get out in the fastest way possible.
Me and like a dozen friends love fractals and do them daily just to screw around, hell we spent a few hours last night just exploring maps for fun.
See this i can understand, but that seems more about having fun with friends than exciting fractals. Do you enjoying pugging as much?
Thief is really bad at 1v1 duels so solo roaming is a serious chore for a thief.
el oh el what the hell did i jsut read
90% of roamers and people dueling in the coliseum are thieves because playing a thief is a chore! we’re doing it so you guys don’t have to!
it’s hard playing a thief! it’s like playing a free kill you should be thanking us!
Fixed.
Fixed.
you know you’ve failed when you correct an intentional misspelling
You know you appear like a kitten(since it’s censored, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/kitten )bag that when you completely change what someone said and say it’s “fixed”.
My work here is done!

Marsh drake? That’s poison projectile that bounces. Of coarse it lands.
massive cast time though

Have never been whispered abuse by anyone and the whispering is great for duels. I’d be annoyed if it was removed because it remains the only way to organize duels.
Can i get a GG ANET?!
I’ve been running a similar one with shortbow and axe/torch. How do you survive vs a sword/dagger thief? they hop around so much it’s extremely hard to stack condis, they pop out of entangle and they clear condis like crazy. it feels almost impossible to win. Also certain variations of hammer warrs with a bunch of condi clear are pretty much impossible to kill.
Also does the drake’s f2 ever actually land?
Imo yes they are. 2 and a boss fract would be better.
I pug everything and it drags.
What i don’t get is why people are rabidly defending the sword. “guys just turn off auto attack and do this complicated attack chain and you’ll get the result of a weapon that was designed properly!”
eh?
I guess nobody has noticed that you can literally just interrupt the pet and it will cancel lick wounds. It puts the skill on a large cooldown.
This sounds like a L2P issue of the worst kind.
Actions speak louder than words and i’m shocked people like you still eat up everything they say.
You shouldn’t be, honestly. Mostly because if the reaction is to not trust anything they say, then there’s no point in pressing them for any communication . . . because it’s obviously smokescreen and/or untrue.
. . . really I wonder at the logic on display sometimes when things like this happen.
I’m seriously wondering if you’re mentally kittened or attempting to troll because i don’t see how anyone with average intelligence could respond like this. My point is that we should take everything they say with a grain of salt because we’ve been burned so many times in the past.
More to the point, what has been up until now is 100% irrelevant.
You’re simply saying it’s been this way so far, so it must always be this way.
I question that logical bias.
Let’s all disregard the things Anet has been doing for the past 2 years because we hope they won’t continue to do them!
K.
I’d rather listen to what they’re saying than ignore what they’re saying. We know for a fact they hired an AI guy during those two years. We know for a fact he’s been working on the AI. We know for a fact that Anet addressed the game developers conference on AI this year. We know for a fact Anet has said they’re working on more challenging content (which they haven’t said before).
We also know that the Silverwastes is harder content than most of the other open world content.
Those are all facts. You want to ignore all those facts to make the assumption the expansion won’t change anything, after they’ve said it’s changing.
Okay, that’s your prerogative. But saying something is the way it is because that’s how it’s been is faulty logic.
By your logic, there will be no new professions in the expansion because we haven’t had a new profession yet.
This will surely be the first time Anet has lied. Of course they’re saying a bunch of great things.. they want to push the expansion. I don’t give a kitten what they say until they prove it with actions and so far they’ve gone back on just about every promise they’ve made so far.
Actions speak louder than words and i’m shocked people like you still eat up everything they say.
6k AP and gear ping req for CoF 1.
Kicked for using healing signet instead of healing surge.

The trick to using the sword is not to use the sword. it’s a broken weapon and the fact that you need to learn all kinds of tricks simply to mitigate the fact that the auto is broken proves it’s a piece of crap.
please the thread owner is asking for tips for help not for you to spread your opion on the matter.
yes and i would give the same response if he had asked for tips on using the mainhand axe or condi armor in PVE. The tip is not to use it because it doesn’t work very well especially in PuGs.
Personally i find it way more satisfying to see someone doing alt f4 or whatnot to avoid the stomp. The loot isnt that awesome anyway.
This haha. if someone wants to leave to deprive you of that 700 exp and 12 world exp let them.
Guess this depends on how much the expansion adds and how much it costs. I get the sense it’ll be a couple new maps and a class and new specializations given that all the content upgrades to date have had very little real content.
I do not consider a new class or a new weapon for each class to be true new content. If this expansion is going to work it needs new maps and new dungeons first and foremost. A LOT of them. otherwise it’s just “here play the same kitten but on a new character!” we’ve all already played the old content on the existing 8 or whatever classes we dont’ care.
Also how much is this expansion going to be? it seems very light on content so far so anything over $30 is way too much imo for what we’ve seen. $20 seems more suited.
This will decide how split the playerbase is. Few people will pay for an expansion that doesn’t provide significant new stuff. I only came back for the expansion when i heard about it and if it ends up being small i’ll leave again.
I completely disagree with this. It seems some people are locked in this old thought process where dungeons are all that’s important in an MMO or we can’t have challenging content without dungeons or that more maps means more stuff to do by default. I don’t think that’s the case.
The mastery system will give people stuff to work towards that can grow with the game. The specialization system will give people new ways to expand their professions moving into the future.
New expansions come out in games all the time and usually they raise a level cap, add tiers of gear and hide the gear in raids. That’s not going to work in this game and those waiting for it may indeed be disappointed.
But what if the game introduces challenging content that’s not dungeons? What if it has as much playability and replayability as an expansion in any other MMO?
what challenging content has there ever been outside of dungeons (and by dungeons i mean fractals)? there’s none. Group events are by design a mindless zergfest and always have been. Anet has shown no inclination to add raids or even group content with a party size larger than 5.
All the mastery system does is give you a new weapon… so you can go ahead and do the same thing you’ve been doing all along but with a couple new skills. That will not provide any lasting reason to stay anymore than collecting cosmetic items will. At the end of the day you get your shiny sword and then… do the old content again with it.
I’m also unsure why you think a raised level cap and new gear “won’t work” when ascended gear is exactly that except extremely poorly executed and awful? it’s a gear treadmill of the worst kind because there’s literally no content that necessiates having it. if they added a gear grind that required the new gear to progress i’d be fine with it. Instead it’s “look guys i grinded 1000 fractals to get my ascended gear so i can do more fractals!” (except that nobody actually gets enough drops to complete a set).

i don’t particularly care that everything new will focus on the expansion because that’s what it is. you buy the vanilla game and get the vanilla game. that’s kinda how it works.
So i haven’t played in many months and came back to find longbow got a buff that it should have had years ago, but also that pets are once again utterly terrible. In wvw my felines have about 14k hp but have 25k in pve.
It seemed like they were finally realizing that an instantly dead companion that you can’t really control was a liability by buffing them and then they went and took it away.
What was the reason for this?
I pug 99% of my runs. Been doing so for 2 years. Dungeons are generally not a problem at all. They aren’t necessarily fast, but very few regular dungeon runs fail outright. Everyone has done them all so many times and they are so easy even the worst pug groups can complete them without any wipes.
As for fractals… things are worse. The problem is it is now very easy to get 45 AR so pugs are full of people going straight from 12 to 38 (god kitten lvl 38…). Some fractals are definitely worse than others though. snowblind, the fire one, and mai are the worst and i’ve had many many parties completely fall apart doing these.
It’s amazing how many people are doing a lvl 38 fractal and have not a kitten clue how to fight mai trin. The shaman boss is a real kitten without any reflects or squishy classes that die the second the eles spawn and the amount of knockdowns in snowblind is just out of control.
I’ve had some really horrible pugs, but generally most are successful. They are not fast, and they are not easy with pugs but they can be done. i will say that pugging will turn you into a way better player really kitten quickly, and you’ll laugh those few times you end up being the only pug in a guild group that knows what they’re doing.

I’m all for metal speedos and leather straps like the female norn T2.
As a female gamer, I like to look at a hot beefcake kitten while I play, but unfortunately the only kittenty armor options are for female characters. I want my male character to strut his stuff.
semi srs.
I agree with everything Phineas said x 1000000. Unfortunately, GW2 has chosen to go the completely casual route. If you want t play more than 30 min or so a night this game is not for you.
They’ve already said they aren’t making more dungeons and it’s clear by now they also have intention of adding any real endgame content or making any meaningful changes to WvW.
They are going with the living story, and all the casual players will be thrilled with their 2h of single player content every 2 weeks.
Personally I think it blows because imo this is the best mmo out right now. unfortunately we can only replay the same content so many times before it gets old. And when we finally land that fractal skin after 450 runs we’ll be so kittened we won’t even stick around to admire it in another 450 runs of the same dungeons.
ascended chests and fractal weapons only drop after level 11. It’s also annoying that agony and reward scales are not the same. Agony tiers start at 10 and increases every 10 levels (10,20,30 etc..). Rewards start at 11 and go up every 10 levels (11, 21, 31 etc…).
You get a daily reward chest from each tier once per day. so 11-20, 21-30 etc… NOT 10-20, 30-40 etc… The higher your fractal level, the higher level you can open, but if you have the AR you could do level 50 if your reward level is 1.
Higher levels theoretically offer better rewards, but the droprates are totally kittened so don’t get your hopes up.

Well they can’t even fix the forum search function let alone the game.
TL:DR no.
As a 12 year old this appeals to me.
I actually enjoy Teq minus the horrendous lag and hour long wait to make sure you get into a decent server. It really blows to wait around. I’d rather just arrive a couple of minutes before the fight and get it done.
If they buff the shatterer and he turns into another Teq I’m just not interested.
