That old logic, we have had hours of gameplay at 5 pence per hour is funny. It’s used to make people who are complaining about the expansion think that because they have such a cheap hourly play rate they should simply shut up and stop complaining. Good tactic, but nefarious at best.
Value isn’t just how many hours you get from a product based on initial price, it’s about the quality of the product you have paid for. With gw2 the game, we have all received great quality value for our money.
As for HoT however, it is beginning to dawn on people that they are not getting or are going to get the quality for there money. They will certainly get the hours, oh yes they will get the hours and hours and hours of gameplay. It’s just that all those hours will be spent unlocking stuff so that they can actually play the product they paid for!
Did you have to unlock any item or learn new stuff to be able to continue the original guild wars 2 story? Only the level required change recently put that time gate on it. Before, you could access story of you were not the recommended level.
HoT to me is just a mess. It’s as clear as mud and for a first experience of verdant brink and the real expansion I cannot believe what a state it is. When u finally find a mystery point and you die in 3 seconds when you step near it, you begin to realise Anet have spun is a yarn, a very very long yarn indeed.
well my friend I agree with you but like I said before its their game they put whatever the price they find to be the propper one. Thing is someone is always willing to take the risk and pay for a product that is uncertain with that in mind your job is to find their reviews and see if its worth for you or not. If not you got to accept that anet has a diferent vision about the game than you and there truly is nothing you can do about it but complain and I can asure you that unless they have some kind of financial loss it will continue ALMOST the way it is now. But their financial loss does not depends on your complains sadly

At the end of the day, Anet is a business, and they need income to operate it.
They will do whats best for them, its a business decision.
They don’t give a crap that core game players are HILARIOUSLY left behind in terms of making progress in GW2….
All the good money making strategies are now tied behind HoT…(raids and fractals, SW will be chump change compared to the new HoT Map rewards)
Want a more diverse and potentially BETTER spec to PvP/WvW with? pay up and buy HoT for elite specs… otherwise, you will get roflstomped in PvP/WvW by better specs.

I was disappointed with the direction this game took and I didn’t buy the expansion. I don’t regret that decision. I have some fun playing GW2 and it’s paid for. It’s not likely I’d spend another dollar on this game though.
I pre-purchased GW2 based on good faith from the original. That good faith is long gone.
If it makes you feel better, a lot of people are less than thrilled with the expansion. You saved some money.

No, it is not possible to use elite specializations in PvP if you do not own Heart of Thorns.
Yes, elite specializations are far superior to normal professions, and have no drawbacks whatsoever.
No, you cannot choose to join matches with other players who do not own the expansion.
Yes, this does mean Guild Wars 2 is now technically Pay-to-Win.
Right now, most of the Elite specs are not good.
As a matter of fact, I have no idea why they even refer to them as “Elite”.
The intention is to balance all the new “specs” to be EQUAL to all the base specs. So if people without the expansion can’t beat them then they will get nerfed.
Right now however, most of the Elite specs suck. So I have absolutely no idea what you are complaining about.
well i was fighting a druid character with my ranger and had no effect on him.. he instantly heals ..no matter what i hit him with..yesterday..was killing players left and right.
i played only pve in gws 1..mostly..so they gave me no real advantage..plus i played solo..with hench or hero’s..so i was by myself..no advantage…and if in gws 2 it was like that..i wouldn’t care..but they never locked old content to make you by the new expand
Uh, the EotN skills were PvE only, as were consumables so actually they gave PvErs a major advantage in elite areas and therefore money making. Not to mention that you needed EotN for dungeons, much like HoT is required for raids. Heroes weren’t available in Prophecies so again, in order to play effectively you needed Nightfall or EotN. Then there was the whole introduction of Zaishen missions/challenges/bounties later on: you needed all parts of the game in order to be able to fully access them.
My point is this is nothing new with ANet in the slightest. As others have said, they have to make their money somehow with a no subscription model and it still works out cheaper than a subscription game. A game that stays static is a dead game.
you missed my point..i never used the consumables. i use hench before hero’s..i liked them better then most people..never had a hench leave or zone me over and over. and you seemed hung up on eotn..when i started factions..i didn’t need to buy every area..or in nightfall i didn’t play half the game and anet said sorry you can’t play the rest of the map until you buy another expand..or sorry we have locked all the henchmen and rewards up in the other gws games you didn’t buy the eotn.

Are you joking or don’t you remember old Ursan Blessing and the introduction of consumables? It was exactly the same thing. You had to have all 3 campaigns and EotN or you were severely disadvantaged. This is why I don’t get the bellyaching from people who played GW1 and why I pre-purchased HoT when I started GW2 – because the expansions will become core content just as much as the first instalment of the game. If you can’t get it now, get it when you can. I wish people weren’t into instant gratification so much…

Almost everything about HoT has been a cash grab, shouldn’t be much of a surprise. It’s one thing to create content to incentivise buying said content, it’s another to downgrade current content to force it.
i agree..when gws 1 was new and they release factions, nighfall, and eye of the north..i wanted the games for content..i couldn’t wait to play the stories..lol heck i almost went to jail trying to buy eye of the north..it wasn’t about pay and you get upgrades to make you win
well I feel kind of cheated..as a vet of gws 1..who paid for gws 2 to have the HOT expand get what we all paid for, for free plus new content..and Over powered elites..that completely knock pvp out of balance and wvw..then make what we paid for now free..and not even care about the vets that made this game survive…without us vets the game would have fail..vets as in all that paid for the core game. anet give us no respect…i could have saved 80$ and waited and got the whole game.
pvp should be about skill..not about money..but HOT elite forms has made it all about money..and when i got gws 2 i paid for it..before someone says the game is free..i had to drop almost 80$ US..when the game was a new release..now my content is locked..so not cool..

free..lol..gws 2 wasn’t free when i got it..i had to buy this game..and i think the elite forms should be open to everyone..or it will unbalance the game..
as some one who builds machines and robots out of scrap..i like the idea..but i think we should be able to mod/advance our bots..by finding parts dropped by enemies..add a little gui that lets us add parts and change things around. if we are scrappers shouldn’t we be able to use scrap, we find….the game already has gears and scrap metal, and, we could break down weapons to get barrels and blades.

patch installed …now i get a desktop on my desktop with a black window that seems to be playing the music, but i can’t see anything and it freezes my computer.

I miss my ability to take up and effectively use any weapon in the game.
My necromancer still has a Q8 15/50 +30 storm bow and Spike, the black Moa, that she can use with the best rangers in the world.
Used to out-monk the real monks in FA and JQ with both a prot/heal hybrid necro, and a Zealous Benediction Prot/Earth elementalist.Which is why I never carried over my names from GW1. I feel it is a dis-service to the legends of my legacy to use the name without being able to completely fill the shoes.
For what it’s worth, many professions in GW2 are much, much, much stronger than the professions in GW1. Look at mesmers, warriors and rangers to their GW1 variants.

you are correct..lol i have posted like a dozen topics on this since the 9th ..i think..and bug reports..Anet doesn’t seem to care about the necro’s….i can guarantee if minions was one-hit killing it would have been fixed in a day..but us losing our minions every time we explore or walk to much they don’t care it seems..
The game felt so huge.
By the time I bought it, the EOTN had been released. I played all the way from the northernmost edge in Jaga Morraine down to the southernmost areas in Cantha, all across the parched plains of Elona and up to again the endlessly burning forests of the Charr area.
I miss the scale and scope of the dungeons. Not cramped rooms filled with seemingly endless trash mobs but whole maps in their own right where you carefully maneuvered among the mobs, taking them out one by one. (And the Dreadspawn Maw in the Domain of Anguish, aka DoA or Dead on Arrival, scared the spit out of me by coming out of the ground right beside me the first time I was there). The Guild Wars 2 dungeons don’t evoke the same feelings of battling dangerous foes.
By comparison, Guild Wars 2 feels so much smaller.
Keep in mind, I was able to finish all four Guild Wars 1 titles in a single week once.
I was talking about moving across the landscape and how big it felt. How big the dungeons were and how hard to fight the individual mobs were. Not whether one person could finish the game fast if they wanted to.
Guild Wars 1 (not dungeons the world) gave the illusion of size by limiting where you could and couldn’t go. It felt big because you could never go in a straight line to anywhere. You snaked back and forth on a path or one of a couple of paths through a large zone that was mostly inaccessible.
Take a look at the area north of Piken Square. It’s not really that big. But it’s very very hard to navigate. The illusion of size.

Maps weren’t bigger I don’t think. But they were pathed so you couldn’t cross them directly. That is to say, you couldn’t just walk across a zone, you had to follow a winding path making zones seem a lot bigger. But taking longer to cross doesn’t mean greater area. I pretty sure we have more explorable area of the same Zone in Guild Wars 2.
look at the Jade sea..no paths..and most of those areas was huge..and half the map you couldn’t get to unless you portal jumped..there was huge maps everywhere
Again, I apologise for the rant, but that was/is the result of a feeling that’s been crepping in me more and more as this changes have been added to the game.
A lot of changes makes me feel like I’m being thrown around, and I don’t have a choice anymore. Maybe I liked being on a specific server or location because it was fun to be with people you recognized even if you were not part of their guild or whatever.
Now we’re just being thrown around, by the megaserver and even if you and your friends are having a good time in a map, you’ll be thrown into another map because we’re not filling it to the soft cap.
The lack of choice is what hurts. Not the fact of being with people in itself, but the fact that the system as it is, leaves me and many others with no possibility of doing something in peace.
We have to be with other 50 random strangers or it’s not fun says Anet.
And I can’t help but to disagree with that mentality.Stop trying to make the game soloable! It’s not a solo game! You can solo your way around World of Warcraft, sure. But this game has many things shared and being with other players to accomplish the same goals/objectives. IT’S AN MMO!

just a generic lvl 20 with locked skills and a link placed in both servers, that would use gws 1 rules when in that server and when in gws 2 it would stay like it is.. use a npc or a portal..or any object they choose.. make it like the fractals or like the charr battle plan decoder in gws 1..where it send you to the location they want you to be in…

why not make a link to gws 1 , like the fractals and the ebonhawk mission where you play as a charr no matter what your character is. where we could get daily missions to link to gws 1 from gws 2 play as another character do the mission, to fix the past or help make sure this future happens..that way it could be used to explain holes in the story. also the gws 1 servers get more traffic and the company can sell more copies of gws 1. that way they can make more money and players get more content. put the link in the eye of the north in the hall of monuments.
lol my minions in gws 1 ..was always on the attack.. but we also had more minions. so if a few decided to lay back and chill some would be attacking. i use to use the hero/merc mm..lol 7 mm’s + 1 necro healer ..so i could get 60-70 minions back then..so a few could chill and the rest attacked lol..plenty to go around back then..but now with only 5 minions..they all have to be doing their job..lol in gws 1 i had a warrior/necro that had more then 5 minions.
back in the past you could summon as many as you want then they limited to 20 then 10 , and now in gw2 that max you could possibly get depending on what you are running is 8 pets . but it does not matter when the minions themselves are paper weak and the damage they take is easy one shot . anet needs to fix it but it depends when , eq next is coming soon and my eyes are already on that game

Same problem here. Just switched to my necro from warrior and noticed this issue. It makes me so mad. Minions are life, minions are love <3. Please devs, fix it

They are completely separate games. The feel, the goals, the systems… there is really nothing “similar” in the games, aside from the lore.
Talking about transitioning things from GW1 to GW2 just seems like a bad idea to me. GW2 has taken on a life of it’s own. It isn’t “the sequel to GW1”, instead it’s “that MMO that relies heavily on dodging and combat that actually makes realistic sense”.
Very much agree – thing is, what were the GW1 player base expecting out of GW2? A totally separate game or a sequel which took the best of the original and brought it “up-to-date”.

i love GW1….it’s my favorite online game..gws 2 has a better combat system and the tp is great..but when they made gws 2 they seem to forgot their roots..the White Mantle ghost doesn’t even have the right armor and those are the ghost of people we killed in gws 1..don’t know if it’s a over site or they just didn’t care..gw 1 made me wake up in the morning and want to play everyday..only reason i get on gws 2 is to chat with what few friends are left, most left gws 2 and mailed me their stuff..they never came back..they other day i was so bored i fell asleep in claypool..i have also fell asleep running places..i really try to like gws 2.. i know anet is trying but gws 1 is still king to me. gws 2 stories like the “land-locked ship looting a orrian ship”…makes no sense..it’s land-locked…how did a orrian ship get in land..there is no path..lol

it’s the trait “flesh of the master” they changed it to stop people from using it to get high health minions then change the trait to another..they way they was getting to use the bonus of both traits..but now it kills all your minions every time you walk over sub area’s or enter caves..or downed…lol..so they goofed. i never did the trait thing never even came to mind..lol

they are not a “crutch”..the same way high damage on Zerkers isn’t a crutch…it’s a build called Minion Master…. Minion master = someone who summons and commands minions to fight enemies for them..you basically are the general of your own small undead army. So it takes tactics to use them..can’t just run in and hack enemies to death. So since you think it’s a crutch, you don’t understand tactics of using minions, and you shouldn’t use them.
Necro’s have to corpse camp..if we move to much, our minions despawn…lol
I don’t even use Zerkers..all they are is glass cannons..i use bunker/healing. so Zerker gear is useless to me..always remember (ogre slayer : Big and tough are only impressive if you’re alive to show it off.)
when will Necromancers Minions be fixed? Can i get some time frame here? they keep despawning all the time. The despawning problem is so bad i can’t play my Necromancer, without fear of minions disappearing, and since they are the bulk of my damage no minions normally means my character dies.
