i’m pretty sure the original intent of confusion damage was supposed to be a source of damage that supplemented your overall total damage, not replace it entirely.
the state of confusion builds now is 90% of your total damage is from confusion. confusion isn’t over or underpowered in spvp, since it’s not meant to be the sole source of damage in any particular build.
i think the most powerfull downed state have thief
ability to 100% avoid first stomp, quite good chance to avoid second stomp, very good bouncing dmg skill
when are people going to realize mesmer #2 is 100% avoid first stomp as well?
mesmers downed state is only second to ele and thieves downed state.

answers all the questions you’re asking.
yes, and the first hit also can’t daze/stun or otherwise interrupt you, because you take full damage and effect from the first projectile.
unless you also happen to have stability, then you can absorb a stunning projectile too.
the people in this thread that say deception is a bad skill either only do PVE or have absolutely no idea how stomp/stealth mechanics work.
go read up before you mislead others.
so does warrior blocks, if you trait for it.
but the point was that your immune from damage from both melee or ranged attacks. and not just ranged.
its not juts ranged block, it’s all block. similar to warrior shield block.
i use +prec with full zerk mes too, at a certain point of crit damage, adding more crit chance gives higher damage than adding more power.
although i’m not exactly sure when that is, i’m sure it’s in a spreadsheet somewhere. plus +prec is so much cheaper than bloodlust
pretty obvious if you just look at what each does.
i’d imagine you get insane duration of retaliation if you block many times during mimic.
haha I already placed orders on my runes of air so I’ll just be waiting for them to come
If I get a sigil of lightning on my GS, and sigil of perception (+prec stack) and sigil of energy on my sword/focus, what do you guys think? Does the sigil of lightning overlap rune of air’s lightning strike CD?
The reason I wanna go with sigil of perception is that on almost full zerker gear (im using the ancient karka earing and no backpiece atm, not enough fractal tokens), my crit chance is around 45 or 47% only. I don’t feel this is high enough. I want it to be at least 50% or more even so i can fully benefit from rune of air’s +10% crit damage.
(I also wanna see more 2.5k crits on mantra of pain. I’m currently in a mantra build but I think I’ll change that to a shatter-ish build. Mantra is good on 1v1 or small teams, but is terrible in zergvzerg, which is what I often find myself in in wvw).
you’d want sigil of fire instead of lightning strike on GS. the damage is nearly the same, but fire is aoe.
Air is great for mes due to our lack of swiftness. Centuar is also a good rune for longer lasting swiftness, but Air’s crit damage and proc beats that IMO.
If you simply want to see big numbers on your screen, Scholar and Eagle are the strongest runes. You may also get Ogre for stable damage.
the math has been done, search the forums, ruby orbs give the highest raw dps next to scholar, but you have to be >90% hp
HOLD DOWN RMB AT ALL TIMES
get used to it.
holding LMB only turns camera, useful for looking behind you while still running forward.
Runes of the Mesmer x5
Ruby orb x1. Slightly better then full ruby orbs. (65power>10% crit damage and 20pre)
thats wrong in so many ways
the last time i played tc, they had more mindless terrible zergs than any other server i’ve ever seen.
they have good coverage, but a disproportionately large amount of bads from what i’ve seen.
it’s not unless you daze shatter first for massive vulnerability stacks.
yes, this is legit, they could have had 4 more seconds of invuln if they had the shatter recharge trait at 50% health.
ruby orbs
and mesmers only hit for 7-8k+ with shatters, no single skill will hit that hard, unless the other person is naked and upleveled.
you can get 2.5-3k/shatter, so totaled thats10-12k damage if all illusions hit.
most non-glamour mesmers will have 3 stunbreaks as utilities.
they’re also the class with the most invulnerabilities.
what does the popup say when you try to slow or stun them?
it autofaces your target when you cast it if you’re not moving/looking around, but you do have to be facing your target.
you need to make it into a collage
OPs problem is he is still low level and Mesmers are horrible low level. You NEED traits to even function as a mesmer and until you get some (say around level 40 or so) your going to have a bad time.
while this is true, the OP should NOT expect any illusions to tank mobs for you. this will NEVER happen.
at best, an illusions serves as an aegis buff, it takes 1 hit for you then dies.
did db always have this many kitten talkers? i dont remember any of this when kaining was moving up and fought db and mag for a couple weeks.
did people suddenly grow big heads?
mag on the other hand, wtf happened man, threads these days are a disappointment, not a single locked thread in like a month.
anytime db doesn’t have ppt lead means is not bp raid time.
would you rather the same people spend an hour in the jp or ask for a mesmer and be done in 5 min?
Mesmers are really terrible at running.
You’re just saying that cuz your mesmer is fat
LOL
you got ressed by a mesmer on your team with that skill, and you went down again because you didn’t rally in time.
similar to how vengeance works for warriors.
i like how that one comender hit door
its fine to get stuck in a tier if the matchup is balanced. and according to the scores, its pretty balnced
Its really not fine though. This is why i’m such a strong advocate of allowing more mobility between the tiers. Problems with a matchup exacerbate when servers are locked together.
Look at the first week Sorrow’s Furnace was in T8. http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/16#na
The most balanced matchup of the week. Some thought T8 was finally where it needed to be and could just stay that way and be fun for all indefinitely.
it ended 211k 215k and 189k. a fairly OK matchup compared to what it eventually became.
that was also before free transfers ended. theres no reason to assume a balanced matchup now will devolve into what it was before.
SF had more points than ET and FC combined for about 10 consecutive weeks. I don’t understand what you think is balanced about that.
I’d also like to point out that we’re now halfway through the current match and SF is winning in tier 7. GoM, on the other hand, is currently in second place in tier 8, although its a close match (which is good).
i was speaking generally, and i’m talking about this weeks T8 scores thus far.
No, I’ve taken it into consideration, I just think that everybody’s ignoring the fact that, whether they like it or not, it’s difficult for any player to tell which mesmer is the real one if they aren’t doing anything to clearly show which one actually is the real one. Everybody just says “oh, a good player can always tell which is the real one”, but that’s only necessarily true under a few circumstances (such as the player being under leveled- clones don’t show up as UL, players do). Under other circumstances, it can be very difficult to discern between mesmers, or, failing that, it at least takes longer to determine which one is real, which is practically the mesmer equivalent of a daze that lasts, oh, say, 5 seconds. During that time, they can’t attack you, because they don’t know where you are, necessarily.
thats wrong, assuming your opponent is not a new players or bad, then even if you stand still and just autoattack, exactly like your clones do, the person you’re fighting will still immediately spot the real mesmer from the clones. simply because clones attack slower than you.
and if the opponent isn’t able to tell which is the real mesmer, then you wouldn’t have to worry about rolling giving you away, because they are bad.
its fine to get stuck in a tier if the matchup is balanced. and according to the scores, its pretty balnced
I want to apologize for my actions in the EBG JP tonight. It was my first time camping and I was very rude and enjoying an unfair fight a little too much. It wasn’t sportsman-like or honorable to chain pull people to their deaths, kill them using 3+ people, and /laugh at that necro from HATE so many times.
But it felt so good.

i havent been able to camp much this week due to exam in jackson, someone needs to do it.
gold star to anyone that knows what i’m referencing
thats not the point of the trait, or illusions for that matter.
spawning illusions isnt to confuse or distract your enemies, its to do damage via shatters.
any decent player will instantly spot the real mesmer regardless if they dodge or not, a mesmer should always assume the enemy knows which is the real one at all times, and only use illusions summoned by skills or dodging to time shatters.
I don’t know if I can speak for everyone but I was a little peeved with the Time Warp/Quickness nerf in this past patch, for obvious reasons, but it wasn’t until I reread the wording on the patch notes that I had a real problem:
As we push to improve balance in both PvE and PvP, a few mechanics in the game will be receiving updates to promote fun and balanced play. In the past, quickness has granted double the action speed normally available to players. In PvP, this speed gives most players almost no chance to react to incoming abilities and allows for massive spike damage in extremely short periods of time. In PvE, the increased attack speed can trivialize a lot of content that would otherwise provide a good challenge. Therefore, we are reducing the speed that quickness allows by half of its current potential while slightly increasing the duration on player-activated skills.
Then I came across a thief in WvW today.. (see attachment)
I run a shatter build, 10/20/10/0/30, with half knights and half berserker exotic/ascended gear. While I don’t plan on tanking champs anytime soon, I do have some defense. Fighting the thief I got one dodge off, which he instantly followed with heartseeker, and one mind blast (downed 1).
He was a very good thief, and I’m by no means the best mesmer, but 22,000 damage in 3 seconds.. that seems a lot like “massive spike damage in extremely short periods of time” that “gives most players almost no chance to react to incoming abilities.”
I was going to take my complaint to the Thief/WvW forum, but that’s probably a long wait for a train that won’t come. Instead, how do you guys deal with thief burst, do you have similar issues with them, should I build differently?
Any advice is welcome.
22,000 damage in 3 seconds? O.o to the extent of my knowledge, that’s only possible if
1. You have awful gear
2. You have ok gear but the thief has the best gear in the game
3. Somewhere along the line you counted incorrectly.I can tell you that the thief sure didn’t backstab you for all of that damage; it’s just not possible. So the only thing I could guess would be a backstab followed by a few HS. Even then, though… The damage just seems wayyyyy too high to even be slightly plausible. That’s +7K DPS; that’s way more than I’ve seen anywhere, with any build, ever. I’ll have to look more into it.
a gc d/d theif vs another gc in full 80 exotics will do that much damage.
i’ve been hit for 7k mug, 7k cnd, 12k bs before in less than 1 second, of course this is before the quickness nerf, now it will probably take a little more than 1 second.
this is all very standard, every gc class is able to output that much damage to another gc class. if i do a similar damage rotation under quickness, it takes about 2 seconds to do similar if not more damage.
To get up there you can only get there with a class that have a leap ability
this isnt true
I don’t have as much trouble with the backstab thieves these days. I either anticipate well and dodge at the right time and I kill the thief, or I don’t and he kills me. I’m also in full Rabid, so I can take a hit or two if I mess up.
The P/D thieves in WvW however, I can’t quite figure them out. Partially because you don’t get as many opportunities against them compared to some of the other builds, so I just don’t have enough practice I suppose. I try to dodge roll the Unload, stay away from them so they don’t CnD me so easily (they still just hit the clones), but the pressure always seems to be on me. Running a condition build, so the constant stealth giving them removal + healing is just a brick wall.
use arcane thievery, mimic, or summon warden and stand inside it.
p/d thieves do VERY little direct damage, its all from bleeds.
PvP is bullying guys, you heard it here.
Nah, people go into the puzzle. They want badges, and I also want badges. They have badges for me if I kill them sometimes, so I kill them.
Namely the reason I camp the JP is because I like small-scale PvP. There is no arenas in this game, the spv kitten tructured around holding a point. I like team deathmatch. Gw2 doesn’t offer TDM, or even dueling, so I sit in the JP to sate my hunger for it.
That doesn’t make me a bully, I’m enjoying the game by playing how I want too. What you’re there to do at the JP is none of my concern, I just want to kill people. I probably make people mad when I kill them, but I’m not interested in how mad they are. I’m interested in killing players because it’s mindless and fun.
As you say, you are interested in killing players, not in fighting players.
Like the bully that waits with his gang for kids to leave school and then “challenges” them to a fight. He won’t go near a boxing gym, to fight other real fighters. He does it the way he wants to, just like you.
When you go JP camping you’re not looking for this fabled “small scale PvP” – that’s BS. It never happens. You are looking for cheap kills with 0 dangers. PvEers who try to farm chests. You want to fight people – go roam the lands, that’s where you will find real fights with willing opponents.
You are shooting rabbits in your backyard and you call yourself a hunter. You are getting their pelts after all. But you stay away from fighting bears in the forest. Those are not fun, not the way you like it.
i find more even fights in JP than anywhere else, whenever i’m running around in the world, and i start fighting someone, 5 more always jump in.
atleast in JP everyones bad and i can usually 1v5 np.
shoutout to the CD trap ranger with the gay moustache, i’m going to miss playing cat and mouse.
and your guys simply waste my time jumping up there and my money repairing my armor.
thats the point
so this one time i killed like a bunch of players at once by myself
I started recording when I roamed and got a good video of typical CD. Fight someone and get an add then another add then another add then another add…
Too bad the average CD player is absolutely terrible and I can kill a rifle warrior starting with only 1000 hp
Oh now I see why CD runs from 1v1s, they lose 1v3s when they actually fight
I put together a little video for my friends from reset night just for fun.
If you don’t like the flashy stuff, the solo/outnumbered fights start at 2:15. The video has no music, just raw teamspeak. Skip to 9:57 to see how [DURP] handles two lonely CD players on an empty borderland. We get an add, then another add, then another add, then another add. . .
I gotta say, it was a lot of fun putting the footage together. =)
i dont get it… were you guys actually outnumbered in any of those fights in the video?
this is like the worst thread i’ve ever seen
because you sit there pretending to be afk, when theres like a load of mag waiting to fight someone.
time to troll jp harder until this is fixed
