The time before the next patch is something like magic: you still have hope for the future and for the upcoming changes. In this moment you still have faith and you see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. So, taste this moment while you can, feel it, enjoy it. Tomorrow you will be disappointed as usually, don’t worry about that.
Best post I’ve read on these forums to date.

Typical dueling etiquette is the victor is the one who downs the other player. The victor does not typically stomp the downed player.

Hmm ya satarcomny does whine about them. mesmers are niether bad , nor good at 1on1. The way they typically spec in the meta they are still middle of the pack.
They can be great at 1on1, but they arent because they carry alot of utility for gruop fights like illusion of life.
Exactly, it depends entirely on whether your specced for 1v1 or not. If properly specced, they can be very good at 1v1.
Fort Aspenwood
mesmers are better in team fights then in 1v1. you just have to be very slippery.
in 1v1 they are not tough. they are just able to last a bit before they die if they get lucky with all there distortion coll downs.
You’ve obviously never played against (or as) a good mesmer. Ele and mesmer dominate 1v1 scenarios and sometimes thieves.
Not to be akitten rider , but sat is a good mesmer, probalby one of the better ones on Na. he has several hundred Qp from the old leaderboards.
so hes played against all of the top players.
That may be the case, but it doesn’t diminish the fact that he’s flat out wrong. They may be better in team fights, but they’re certainly not as bad as he claims in 1v1.

Makes sense that it rips out all of your endurance (you need something to sacrifice) but why does it make it so you can’t gain ANY endurance while under the effects of haste. That just isn’t logical in any way.
So I use haste, get the 2nd hit from daggers off, no endurance; get vigor from something, it doesn’t regen; have an endurance on weapon swap sigil, doesn’t proc.
This makes this into a HIGHLY situational skill instead of a great ability to complement many builds.Comparing this to the other haste abilities, if they all worked the same, it would be disgusting.
Warrior would be, activate frenzy, now takes double damage from all attacks, also immediately loses half of your current hp.Ranger would be, activate w/e it’s called, can’t heal from any sources, also your healing skill is now put on cool down.
The ONLY skill that gives haste that is worse than the thief’s haste is the one engis have (just the haste, not accounting for the toolbelt skill here) only because they don’t get a stunbreak upon use and the ability has a cast time. All the weaknesses, none of the strengths. If they didn’t get 2 abilities from that it wouldn’t be worth the slot.
I’d say thieves have it easy compared to warriors. If you want to attack twice as fast, there should be consequences. I see no reason why this should be changed for thieves. There’s a risk involved for every class. Coming from a warrior, it’s hard to land frenzy and get enough hits off to actually down the enemy before they down you. More often than not one uses frenzy on a glassy build – for warriors, this is oftentimes a death sentence. Especially against a thief.
In any event, I don’t think it should be changed. At all.
Fort Aspenwood
What I’d like to know is why the warrior’s quickness skill induces 50% more damage, but none of the other classes do.
Unsure if im reading this as “why does it cause warriors to do 50% more damage” or “why warriors take 50% more damage in frenzy.” My apologies if ive misinterpreted your statement.
If its the former then you are incorrect as frenzy causes wars to TAKE more damage not deal out more damage.
If its the latter then its because other classes also get a drawback on quickness where the warrior’s one is you take 50% more damage. Rangers will not be able to heal in QZ and theives also lose the ability to regen endurance in the time they are in quickness. Each class has its specific drawback when using Frenzy.
I mean why does a warrior have to take 50% more damage. That’s what I mean.
As for your point, that makes sense I suppose. But 50%?! Feels like a lot :\

So many kids crying about mesmers, yet a thief can run up on a tank mesmer and backstab for 18k in under 2 seconds from stealth and a warrior can 100b for upwards of 14k+ damage (and can certainly do an immobilize with bolas – which are equally as easy to avoid as the mesmer’s iLeap). iLeap is hilariously easy to avoid if you pay attention.
Grow up guys. Are you really going to continue crying about this? Sounds like a L2Play issue. #cliche

Asura! Pain inverter!!!!
This. A thousand times THIS.

Nice Video. You always (80%) fight with 2 players vs 1 oppoment. It must be very difficult to win against 1 enemy at an advantageous position . Like that progaming a lot. More of that. 2 Glasscaonnon mesmers vs one victim. Like it so much.
But it’s okay when a thief can take out 8 people solo…

On top of the issues mentioned here, anyone notice the weird shoulder stretching? It’s really annoying…
Yes, this has also been postet in the thread mentioned above repeatedly. I made some screens of all the issues and posted it in last month’s thread and also in this thread. But I guess I will repost them again in the March thread as soon as I’m home from work.
Ah, sorry. Didn’t see it.
And thanks.

I pulled this off in SPVP earlier and felt like a boss. Inspired by you of course.

I have set myself the goal to farm every component of the legendary by my self. Then it truly will be legendary!
Yes, because thousands of hours of grind are very legendary.
I have Twilight, Bolt, four T3 Sets, Anomaly and am currently working on Incinerator and Infinite light and I can proudly say that I did not have to grind for it.
It’s sad they paint something as legendary when all it takes is your mom’s credit card and a gold seller to make a legendary (or any other weapon really). Nothing legendary about them, really. :\

The amount of people that would complain about not being able to get cultural armor refunded pales in comparison to the amount of people that would happily use this feature.
This, and wouldn’t it make sense for any cultural armor that is soulbound to the character to instantly become account bound once race change is confirmed? Perhaps this could be exploited, but it seems viable.
Fort Aspenwood
Illusions don’t get offhand weapons.
Seems pretty weird to me. You would think a clone would be just that. A CLONE. :S
Fort Aspenwood
Your #3 video is exactly the same as my build. I love it!
Actually, the only difference is I go 20/20/0/0/30 and use two superior sigils of energy on my staff and my sword. On my focus/pistol/etc, I use sigil of accuracy. With 103% crit damage, it works very well. Plus the extra endurance from swapping weapons not only make it easier to avoid attack, but easier to get clones up faster.
Just my two cents.

Hi. In almost all MMO/RPG games, I played the Warrior archtype.
I played gw1 as a warrior, blah blah blah, came to gw2 on launch, and have played warrior since launch.
I’ve become more or less beyond frustrated with the warrior class (and lack of dev response at any point regarding their issues, such as sustain) in WvWvW, so I’m looking to roll an alt.
I managed to get a necromancer up to level 40 before loling deciding that leveling it further would be a waste of time.
Now, in general, mesmers (as a warrior) are extremely annoying. I can usually just cleave down clones..but they’re still annoying. So really, all I know is that you have clones. and stealth.
I’m looking for some hard info about how mesmers perform in wvwvw:
1.Overall,do you think your class is a strong suit in WvWvW?
2.Do you feel your traits are synergized nicely? (IE “Wiggle room”)
3.Is Greatsword a viable weapon for WvWvW? If so, what type of armor affix? (berserker, knight, ect?)Thanks.
1. In 1v1, some would argue thief is much better (especially perma-stealth thieves). In some ways they are. If dueling is your thing, I’d look into a thief as well. As for sheer utility and also strong 1v1 abilities, mesmer is the next best thing. It’s one of the best (if not the best) for group synergy.
2. The traits are fantastic. I’ll leave it at that.
3. I use GS and Sword/Focus. Works wonders for me in full zerkers gear. I can take down targets very quickly in 1v1 and group scenarios. Staff is good for more defensive things, but I’ve seen it used offensively with great success. The choice is your really. If you want to go full zerkers, I’d recommend GS (especially once it’s fixed) and Sword/X (X in my case is typically focus to annoy thieves who shadow refuge and pull people off walls/cliffs/etc).
Good luck.

Someone needs to make a thread in the bug forum. This effectively makes mesmers much less useful if people can just spot the real one so easily.
Fort Aspenwood
Hi. First of all i want to preface this with a few facts.
1- I am a Champion Shadow in tpvp/spvp. Not a big deal but it is what it is.
2- I have lvl 80 chars of thief/mesmer/warrior/ranger
3- I prefer small man fighting in WvW, solo to under 10 players.
4- I have played MMos since UO with alot of time in DAoC as a nightshade RR8 before ToA exp.
5- My thief spec is p/d + d/p.Now with that said i want to simply state some of my experiences with the thief in wvw.
1- I do not die. I reiterate. I DO NOT DIE. I may not “win” a fight, but there is no possible way i can die to players, even 25+ zergs. It just cannot happen. Call it culling call it whatever you want to, it never happens. Stealth and unpredictability with huge mobility is the culprit that i utilize fully.
2- Stats. I keep reading about spvp this and that on this thread like it matters. Thieves in spvp are fine yes because just like every other class they are pigeonholed to have only certain available stats with caps on crit . In wvw you can min/max your stats with ascended gear and exotics to make a stone cold killing machine. I’ve tested with a GC build and it is a JOKE how fast you can take someone out. Steal +mug c/d bs and its essentially over. Yes it isnt a “one hit” but it happens in a second flat so it might as well be.
3- Thieves are squishy and have no hps or defenses if they spec that way. This on paper is absolutely correct. However, this doesnt matter. Again, IT DOESNT MATTER. You cant die if you cant get hit. “AOE everything, L2P!” Seriously i LOL at all the AOE im 100 paces away. Shadowstep in, insta bang someone dead, shadow step back im safer than if i had 100000000 hp. All the thieves using this “crutch” of no defense are lying or not playing well.
4- People arent as bad as you think, thieves make people look bad. “they dont dodge” “they run around aimlessly” etc etc. Dodge what? Run to where? THEY CANT SEE YOU. Yes, there are some bad players. And mediocre ones, some good ones and even great ones. None of that matters. THEY CANT KILL ME. And that is a problem. I’m not a great player. I just play a thief.
5- Mobility. Yea i am currently playing p/d so yea ppl can run away from me if they are eles, or some warriors even if they have a proper weapon set. But on GC you have got to be kidding me. SB5, SS, HS movement no one escapes but them. 5 classes have no where to go if i dont want them to.
6- Stealth. Wow, just wow. In any -real- game that claims balance, ( not perfect world or some nonsense) this stealth is just OP. Health regen while stealthed, constant access to stealth IN COMBAT, remove conditions in stealth, move faster in stealth. Complete invis in stealth (no detection). Full time stealth in other games like WoW/DAoC/etc had slower movement speed, a way to detect if you where too close to other enemy players and they notice you, and removal of stealth on dmg. This is a big F up on Anet.
7-Thieves are terrible in mass fighting. This is not the case in the slightest. Keep defense/siegeing SB is like your own personal mobile siege weapon. Poison fields that do 33 less healing in a large raidus +weakness, cluster bomb that hits like a truck to multiple targets. See a downed or low life guy? Port in finish him off, port back undetected, easy peasy.
8- Thief in WvW is absolute GODMODE. Out of all my classes it was the only one i could be lvl 20 in wvw and kill actual 80s. I would get STOMPED hard on my other characters if i tried that. If you play a thief and feel you are underpowered or need buffs or we are “fine”, well…
Also QFT. I really hate stealth in WvW, or stealth in general to be honest.

Not starting off so hot this week on FA. Seems really unorganized right now. Hopefully we can pick things up very soon.
Also, welcome TC to tier 2 hehe.
Fort Aspenwood
I thought thieves were a problem until I rolled a shatter cat mesmer. Now I watch them drop like flies in wvw. It’s quite satisfying.
Fort Aspenwood
Cool guise who don’t afraid of anything.

There probably is a matching dye colour under a different name.
Have a look at the wiki for a full list of colours: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dye
None of those seems to match, unfortunately.
Fort Aspenwood
The dye I’m referring to that’s listed as one of the hair colors is “Black Sea.” Unfortunately there’s no equivalent for armor, unless it’s named something else?
This makes me awfully sad.
Do they plan to add this dye in at a later point in time?
Fort Aspenwood
Someone trash this thread. PLEASE.

Confirmed. Let’s hope this gets fixed.

Usually Rune of the Undead. For damge and survivability.
Especially with Rabid gear. The #6 bonus is a very nice bump.
Also, they’re super cheap.
Fort Aspenwood
i don’t think its a nerf! if they wan’t to nerf it, they would tell us about it..
Not necessarily. They even said it themselves that not everything made it into the patch notes/changelog.

NAKY – Naky Asurans Frolicking.
Best guild ever and proud to represent all 6 members. \o/

RTL nerf forces us to use PVT gear to roam.
Am I supposed to feel bad here? Try roaming with anything other than a thief or ele.
Fort Aspenwood
No problems here on T2.
u havent faced RISE guild then
We did. 3 times.
No lag for me.
Fort Aspenwood
Made a mesmer (the go to build at the moment)
and played 4 hot join sPVP never dying once. matches were 14-0,16-0,13-0 and 17-0. zerk ammy
thoughts? discussion? anyone else think they are way too survivable for how squishy they are? even thieves can be stunned and taken down fast…. mesmers? every skill is a stun break. dont even get me started on how bad they are in WVW
Thieves are king of wvw roaming.
Fort Aspenwood
Really hoping they fix this soon. If it’s intentional, it’d sure be nice to see it in the patch notes next time… Seriously.
It’s like the kid who spits in your cereal and tells you after you have eaten half of it already and noticed the funny taste.

Hm, I could have sworn it didn’t stack either way. But to be honest, I’ve only really been using the focus intently for about 3 weeks. So I might be mistaken.
You are indeed [mistaken], sir.
Certainly doesn’t stack for me.
Use Temporal Curtain —> get swiftness from Curtain --> get swiftness from other sources.
I meant the other way around. Have swiftness already and try running through temporal curtain.
No stack. That’s what I want
Fort Aspenwood
Be wary, fellow necromancers. My friend got it as a drop, gave it to me since I helped him grind his hall of monuments on guild wars 1, and I’ve learned that, well, it has the same animation problem with the sycthe staff skin.
I’m starting to think anet likes to mess with us. the TWO staves perfect for us, gets animation problems. XD
The Crossing looks just fine and is, in my opinion, the best looking necrotic staff.
Fort Aspenwood
Redacted. Read that wrong lol.
Fort Aspenwood
I have to disagree.
This has made low duration stealth abilities totally worthless. Like Blinding Powder. In 3 seconds you can’t get enough away unless you have a shadowstep utility slot, since Infiltrator’s Arrow breaks stealth as you use it.
What now? We have to throw a Shadow Refuge to effectively run away?
This isn’t balancing, this is messing things up.
But it’s OK if a warrior has to burn through utilities just to survive 5 seconds longer?
Sense. This makes none.
Fort Aspenwood

From what I’ve seen:
- Sword #3 ability no longer cripples on the first part of the chain.
- Illusions oftentimes spawn with no weapons (and are still pretty terrible at hitting the target they were spawn on)
- Spear auto-attack hits nothing (constant miss)
- Illusionary Berserker was nerfed (unintentionally it seems) – no longer a whirl finisher and damage reduced.Until these are fixed, I’ll be retiring my mesmer for my necro.
*-Seeya. Have fun.
Will do, thanks.
Fort Aspenwood
Just tested it myself. They either reduced the crit chance on it or the damage overall. I can’t tell which.
Looks like I’m retiring my mesmer for the time being (AKA, “I shoulda rolled thief”).

My asura sounds pretty cool. T.T

Yes necros are OPed. I play wvw a lot and I often kill 7 thieves at the same time all by myself. I chase down eles and kill them even when they are in home waypoint. I have a special ability to see which mesmer clones are fakes so I have no problem killing the real mesmer. I charge head first into a warrior and dagger them to death. I can debuff a zerg of 60 enemies at the same time all by myself. I can res all dead allies on the whole map every 2 minutes. My Flesh Golem is invincible, every time it losses its head it grows back 2 new heads. When I turn on Lich Form every enemy in the map runs away. Plague Form is Chuck Norris.
There are tons of videos on Youtube showing you how this is done. Necro should be nerfed they are ruining the game!
Lol, fantastic.
Fort Aspenwood
I prefer runes of the undead. Dirt cheap and work wonders with full rabid gear and conditions.
