My GW2 pve critique ( These are my views and people will disagree and thats fine)
pros:
+world is vast and well polished ( best MMO world ever)
+leveling was fun ( It was the best leveling experience I have ever had, little more story would have bee nice hwoever)
+ascetics ( best looking by a long shot)
+stream line questing ( no running to npc)
+personal story (idea not always the execution, was better to have tho)
+crafting system
+way points
+map exploration rewarding and that there are actual points to discover
cons:
Items drops
-genral easiness
-tokens( take the Oh I killed a boss wonder what I get for it feel out of it)
-no stand out item
-lack of exotic items exoticness
-green blues too abundant you made that tier into vender trash (by doing so lost tons of progression)
-lack of fun rare item drops (bosses could have super drops like boss only mini’s, flavor items, skins, boss only dyes
-Grindfest known as legendaries (nothing legendary about them but putting time into them)
-gathering nodes that everyone can gather(sounds great but leads to everyone having everything so nothing is worth much, even rare nodes are not that special)
LACK OF EPICNESS
-zhitan was an easy/boring kill..(make a small story encounter where you fight him make it the balls hard last fight to actually kill him in a hard mode)
-dungeons seem like random levels in a game not epic dungeons where I fight the greatest forces of evil in the game (bad correlation between the dungeon and the story or who the hell im fighting and why)
-No hard challenge that I can feel accomplished about beating its just face roll this face roll that get reward everyone has ( needs actual hard encounters/raids that give rewards to show I did something exceptional)
-lack of large party events ( instanced the zergs are not fun)
-lack of Challenge and being rewarded for such
Guilds:
-They don’t really feel useful, nothing requires or is helped by having one other than the boosts you get and the chat( i have a great guild wish they could be of more help)
-I would like to see a guild hall put in place an instance only assessable by guild members that grows with the guild from a plot of land to a small castle with tons of cool stuff( I wrote a post on it if you’d like to see my idea’s)
Random
-lack of skills (1 auto attack 4 weapon skills and 4 long cd skills 1 heal is not really enough for me I’d like to see more useable skills and some variety, lots of times im only hitting 3 keys in pve. I would like 3-4 more skills just to give combat more variety)
-personal story gets boring and some levels are just long and silly ( some are really good)
-underwater combat feels underwhelming
-Lack of solid end game ( feel quite bored at level cap)
Dungeon and thier Mechanics
-too easy ( even the hard modes the hardest things in game are easily beaten)
-too similar ( the dungeons really lack interesting mechanics and really bad about using envirment into the boss fights)
-Bad mechanics/too few ( most are kill adds, avoid aoe, kite a little more imagination would be nice ) NOTE: this is worse in explorable story modes actually do pretty well
-Boss rooms ( an arena for an epic fight where good environmental and large arena mechanics can be used)
-zerg (make a large boss room/close doors until wipe or win)
-nothing fun to work at and be rewarded for(no challenging raid type encounters where you need a proficient group working together)
Conculsion
MMO’s are about having FUN and doing challenges whether by self or a group and being rewarded to both make you stand out and progress your character.
There is fun and quite a bit in this game but as far as progression and a sense of uniqueness about your hero it is just not there. The game (pve) is TOO EASY which leads to everyone being TOO SIMILAR. I worry about the longevity of the game as it is fun for a while a pretty long while but once the initial leveling experience wears off there is just no progression or uniqueness to work for.
That being said it is a great game and hopefully will add some things to make the game better.
PLEASE PUT THIS IN
WAY TOO EASY AND really BORING
-Too easy you can get the “exotic” (stuff everyone has) armor is about 10-20 hours of play and at little to no challenge because its so easy everyone can easily do it. Because of this you dont feel accomplished because everyone can do it and there goes your replayabilty once you have the gear.
-Boring there is very few encounters that have a different feel or fun mechanics most can be first tried. Easy encounters is fine the first time but when you run them 2,3,4 times it becomes a monotonous grind
GW2 loot system , Do you players like it ? yes/no give reasons for both
Posted by: wookie slayer.4259
I have a couple of issues with the current loot system.
1. Blues and Greens are too abundant they they aren’t appreciated unless leveling. Most of them are vendored directly as the market is flooded with these items.
2. Yellows (rare) are the only items that feel somewhat rewarding and that’s because you can salvage them for Ectoplasms.
3. You are more likely to get these rares from farming mobs during events rather than actually doing challenging content.
4. All mobs seem to share the same loot table. Fighting Veterans or Elites is highly inefficient and thus, unrewarding compared to AoEing down a group of mobs instantly.
5. Exotics are relatively easy to affordable to purchase compared to grinding out the gear in Dungeons. With a price of 2-3 Gold per item it’s not that expensive to get exactly what you want.
____________________________________________If they wanted to address these issues here’s what they should do.
1. Remove the chance for regular mobs to drop rare items. They should only drop blue and the occasional green item.
2. Veteran and Elite mobs should have a chance of dropping either green or yellow items.
3. Chests should also drop green or yellow items.
4. Add a MF bonus to mobs that have been alive for a long time. The longer a mob remains unkilled, the higher the chance to drop something good. This is to promote and reward exploration off the beaten track.
5. Remove MF gear from the game.
I strongly agree with these statements and would benefit Anet to look at this

I hate it ,
-Dungeon loot is so sub part might as well not be given the vender trash green/blue’s
-Hate token system they take the “wow I killed a boss lets see what I got factor out of the game”
-I think rare’s/exotics are way too easily obtained ( its no fun to be dececked out in the best armor in game then look to your left and right and see 10 other people with it, it makes rares and exotics STANDARD not rare and exotic
-World boss events need to be buffed i’d prefer 1 yellow than 5-6 crap drops
-There should be rare fun drops from certain bosses like a rare pet/cool flavor only item/ rare ingredents/ goofy casual skins they just make the game more fun
A list of changes that I've thought of to improve the game...

The skill not time thing is really a problem. The whole anti grind thing was great when they said it, but the whole game is a grindfest. I’d rather the dungeons be really hard then give you stuff for beating them rather than pug/faceroll get tokens and repeat. And legendaries lol, the most un-legendary way to get them. I want a challenge that rewards skill not just x hours equals x rewards.
So guild community is some what lacking and so is progression here is my idea..guild halls
heres my vison of it…
Free way point useable only by people rep’ing guild. It starts as a plot of land with a small lodge cabin that with ach upgrade to lets say the architecture it becomes larger to giant cabin up till a small castle many months down the line. And each upgrade allows more things to be built. Things like..
-Forge, allows guild armor and wep smith. Could give sharpen wep buff once per day
-In house bank (flavor thing)
-If there are ever raids/large guild monsters trophies of the fallen bosses could be hung or mounted here (total flavor thing but a Bad arrrse one.
-Guild repairer that allows for rich members to donate gold that other members can use on repairs
-Garden outside that could level as the build levels that produces certain food items
-Tons more possiblites
You could go as far as to have guild events where a horde of some given monster attacks your guild head quarters and its up to the guild to fend them off. Lots of possibles and not to mention a cool place to hang out with the guild because guild community is lacking right now.
Give Anet a yay or nay on this idea and put your ideas on how to make the idea cooler
TOTAL TRUE,
they need harder conetnet for guilds to work
and a guild hall to hang out and progress
@daddyrage
Your likely right and I’m sure it will get better, I hope it does soon or with new content which i will come back for
Home isntance isnt that cool, a guild hall that your guild could actually build from small house shack to small castle would be kitten.

I grinded 390 AC tokens when it was 30/20 I used to pug all the AC paths with ease. They only tactic is dodge the pull and spam the spikes. ( it is the best dungeon, but far from hard n tactical) not trying to be an kitten im just wishing they were harder
Honestly I don’t really want the open world stuff to be super difficult. I consider that the casual content and it’s not meant to be super hard. The hard stuff is supposed to be the explorable mode dungeons. Though I do think the large scale zerg DEs need tweaking.
I think thats what everyone wants, when people say they need harder they mean max level stuff and large world encounters.
As a pve only player I have gave up the game I ran out of stuff to do and I like my guardian the best and don’t feel like running an alt through the same content im bored of.
-I have my skins ( most dungeon)
-I have seen 75%ish of the world ( dont care to see more, very similar)
-dungeons dont give me any wanted rewards anymore , not fun enough to run for the hell of it ( pretty easy and lots of bosses feel every similar)
-world events are boring easy and unrewarding
-legendaries are grindfests which I could careless about ( all they mean is u sunk 200 hours of your time into an item, with no challenge)
-No point to crafting when there are no rare recipes/ or better stated items to provide people
-only fluff people suggest is just that fluff(ie collect dyes, make tons of gold, get titles)
ps on a side note titles could be neat if there was a challegning means of obtaining them, like raid titles in wow
@arjeidi.2690
Protip: He represents a lot of players and this is a forum where you voice your opinion, crazy I know. And sorry you are challenged too much in real life. But some of us are challenged in real life and still ok for a challenging game not just one u can face roll through. You have your face rolling and thats nice but why can’t we have our way as well, to challenge our skills? No one wants the whole game to be hard just certain areas where the players who can handle it can go.
Get over yourself my brother, you want easy go walk around the cities, just because you want easy doesn’t mean we all do. pompous? kind of mean? hypocritical? yes..
This game because of lack of challenge loses SO MUCH!
1. It hurts the FUN of players who like challenges not just coasting thru a game
2. It hurts community because lets face it you don’t need your guild or groupcommunication for any of the game (reminds me of a single player game or rpg more than a MMO)
3. KILLS replay-ability if its not engaging, that’s okish the first time when its new but the second/third/fourth time it’s pretty boring
4. Destroys any kind of prestigious items or titles. When a game is this easy everything is just a time game; titles, items skins, legendaries, there all time games none of them are rewarded for being any sort of challenge its just a time sink.
5. Meaningful progression, without challenge again becomes a time sink in where you’ll get there eventually even if your very bad at the game.
if you are not happy with this game, or feel like it is not what you expected
Posted by: wookie slayer.4259
t’s not an MMO, it’s more of a single player, co-op rpg, more akin to PSO than EQ.
This is one of my biggest complaints about the game there is no community feel/ even in guilds because there is a lack of content you need other players for. Only thing u need them for is random events and people show or dungeons which are easy pugged
Run it another 3 times it will get boring fast
The game is fun till a point then becomes used up in pve. I disagree on dungeons they are pretty bad. The “mechanics” are not fun and the lack of intrusting fights is annoying. As well has huge hp pools. I think the pve side of this game after lelveling is BAD.
YES! YES! A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!!!!
This game is so easy there is no way to show or be distinguished due to your skill. Even the explorable modes are puggable by everyone and they were said to be hardest things in game…way to easy most people need a challenge to stay.
Ps. Node farming would be more fun=harder if everyone shared nodes so not everyone has every rare mat. It would make u happy to find an ori ore vein
Prime example of this is take 5 warriors with greatsword into dungeon kill everything with hundred blade
Problems:
1. Dungeons are too easy(all can be pugged with retaliative ease) and too dull, they feel grinding and time sinky.
2. Loot is boring and generic. Why can we see super rare mini’s from final bosses, rare recipe drops with semi rare dungeon only components, rare drop only skins, rare fun flavor items that are silly. These things make looting fun not loot chest get green/blue maybe yellow>>>>sell all…
3. Tokens are boring no excitement on killing a boss like there is with drops ( solution make bosses harder so when you beat them you get item and feel happy and rewarded)
dungeon runs are nothing but a time sink and a grind
This is way too true the dungeons at least the Explore portions are very dull and the dull generic rewards dont help….
Fuz.5621
Token system is just that fine….not GOOD, EXCITING, or FUN..its just fine and fair and dully grinding a set amount of currency..
Not to mention the lack of cool drops you get for chests. I grinded dungeon gear before they set it to 60 tokens so I ran a lot of dungeons don’t remember getting one really cool thing from any dungeon.
Ps. whats with the lack of fun drops like rare mini’s, cool crafting recipes, super rare drop only skins, really rare silly stuff. These things give loot flavor where right now it is loot blue/green/yellow sell blue/green/yellow

Yes leveling was great but once your 80 most people had enough or hearts and events. In MMO’s, at least successful MMO’s, people need things to do after 80 (diffrent things ) or they get bored and leave. They don’t want to do the same thing 100 hours of play after they hit 80 that took them 100 hours.
Goals are the reason to keep doing something. You have no goal or reason and no one can give that to you. All I can do is state some of mine:
-See the whole world
-Master/understand the game and profession mechanics and builds to enhance my gameplay better than average player (spvp oriented)
-Compete in wvw and spvp/tpvp
-Explore and learn loreIn the end I play because it is new and fresh still so I continue to feel that forward momentum. This feeling can wear off and if it does then I will stop. But for now, I am hooked.
I wish the game had better set in goals for people and rewarded them with things for completetion
@wookalar.8952’s answer
Yes these are things to do but..
1. This can be done quite easy I did it within 1-2 weeks of hitting 80 all the dungeons skins I want. ( was something to do real end game, was very short and grinding dungeons was awful boring)
2.Some Don’t care for pvp (also not endgame it is all game)
3.Some Don’t care for pvp
4. scneary is nice but all the areas have the same feel, great for leveling not so much for replaying
5. Legendaries take 250 plus hours of plain ol’ grindingfor a red text and a skin not for me (and most people)
6. Running the dungeons is ok, lots are not every fun most are pretty easy and some are over tuned (not balanced). Is ok if you really like them most people do it for the gear tho
7. Collect all the dyes? not end game, and serves very little purpose and only a handful of people will do this and even less with find it fun (its grind for drops or grind for money)
8.Alt’s a good way to prolong game life (definitely not endgame tho), some don’t like rolling alts as it is repeating like 80 percent of the content. Unless you fabulously love an alts class, some will find it dull.
9. Unlocking achievements in this game most of the achievements are time achievements and not skill based. (most can be done by anyone with enough time, but can be done faster by people with more skill). To me and many this is fluff
10. Leveling crafts in a game without stat gear or rare recipes is well not profitable or useful so why?
Your list has very few actual endgame, most is just fluff and things that not but can not really be called endgame. Some of it is endgame the dungeons and gettting your favorite armor skins, but that content is so short and lack luster it really can’t fill the endgameless hole made by where other MMO’s have put the bar.
Come on sunrise
(ps. Me fighting a dirty char who copied my sword/ and me on leaking fire and darkness)
Finding a group on a high population server is pretty easy. But the dungeons are pretty boring/ little to easy and similar to each other so your not missing out in the explore modes. Story on the other hand can be pretty fun as the bosses seem finished and well thought out the Exp modes seem rushed and not very well thought out
Guardian/warr. Get 2 guard 3 warriors, 1 guard with hammer 1 warr with mace= protection and venerability all the time. Strap 3 great sword on the others for a flurry of death. Occasion calls for ranged? Have a guardians draw uncrossable lines with there sticks and warriors ranged with the guards aoe staffs = good game silly mobs walking into invisible wall. Heavies are rocksauce they can do everything any other class can and have better survivability and can do MAD dmg with greatswords to make the run fast.
(edited by wookie slayer.4259)
gaurdian, gaurdian, warr, warr, and a warr
heavies are rocksuace. You want a speed run throw 5 greatswords on these guys stuff goes down like nothing. Got to go ranged no problem heavies can do that too and still have mucho survivability.
how can they stop it, its a free market and legendaries are the only thing in game hard to get
Sure if u want to give up 400 hours of your life to farming for a skin with red letters in the description.
Ac is my fav EM dungeon the first boss and the spike traps are decent designed. 2 of 9 bosses isnt saying much but better than most. The dungeons are a silly mess
I hope there are legendary challenges to get it not legendary grindfests like the weps are
This would be a valid argument if the game was free but it is not and we payed the fee expecting certain things. No cheating is the top aspect of that. Just because there is no sub doesnt mean the game can just be awful (which is is by no means) but your reasoning would allow for it with us with nothing to complain about.
I too need carrots, mostly for a sense of achievement, and making my own really doesn’t satisfy myself, especially when the pve game is so easy. And I dont get much from 2 manning a champ or soloing vets without blue gear(all previous suggestion from other threads lol)
The only real reason for levels is to give a sense of progression and gating so you can’t just go everywhere at the beginning. In the early levels it also servers to hold skills back so people arnt overwhelmed.
But yes this game could be levelless and would not make a huge difference. I would prefer levels and stated gear progression as I like progression alot. But that’s a opinion.
Ya I agree withthe OP on the pve end cant talk much to the pvp side of things. Better dungeons and I’d love a loot overhaul because right now the system is pretty boring and there are no prestigious items to strive for
My problem with the community is not with the community but with the lack of content that makes you needed a community to achieve. I would like to see large events/ raids that took strategy and not zerging to best.
To say an MMO end game is only pvp is a pretty bad claim. Lots i’d be willing to say at least half don’t care for pvp at all and would really like pve end game. Because its an MMO not a first person shooter
I hate dungeons because they are far too easy and really boring mechanic wise.
You get like three chests along the way….? Of all the things to gripe about…they just handed you a large piece of an exotic….and you gripe about it.
Its boring to farm for tokens, i’d rather run the thing 5 times hopeing for a drop than 5 times collecting tokens. And the chest are garbage.
My question to the community is this scenario:
Imagine this is your first MMO. Imagine you’ve never played GW1, or WoW, or EQ etc. You have no basis for comparison, this is your first experience with this kind of game.
Ok, in that mind set? Now answer this: What do you think of the game?
Game is great in terms of graphics, armor custimazation, the zones are great, leveling was a BLAST. But then 80 comes and its like well I’m bored and done. The pve is pretty aweful at 80, there is no challenge’s no big bad bosses to fight just bland dungeons to farm for tokens ( super fun…). I had such high hopes for the game after leveling through it but the max level content is just nonexistent
It really takes the " o boy I downed a boss wonder if I’ll get something cool for doing it factor right out of the game." A factor I quite miss.
I want raids. Limit it to ten man if that’s what you want. I want gear progression. I want something for hardcore players who grew up with rpgs, like progression, and won’t play games without it.
I want pvp and pve totally separated. This was the main reason why I bought this game. I was told in multiple videos and previews for this game that pve balance would not effect pvp or vice versus. And yet here I am, a little over a month after launch, reading a mesmer nerf among other things. This nerf is for pvp is my guess because mesmer deal low damage in dungeons.
I want a better community. I want celebrity streamers, which the game HAD but LOST. Kungen and Kripp were the face of the community and both make fun of gw2 while playing wow. Others would have appeared and a community would have emerged. Instead we get this, casualfest 2012 with displaced sheep either skulking back to wow or pining over the next big mmo flop.
The truth about games is that marketing has become as important if not more than production.
Feedback loop initiated.
I want what he wants raids/gear/and stuff for players that are good at the game. And the pvp/pve split needes to be there because balancing for pvp will destroy pve or vice versa.
I could agree that some improvements could be made to the game but what I can’t understand is how anyone can say that wows skill curve is higher than this? I left wow because it was way too easy lol, I could tank and have dinner at the same time and for dps all you do is just stand there and do a rotation. Played wow since beta and just recently left, I feel this game takes far more skill especially in the dungeons.. Could you imagine being grouped in a dungeon in gw2 with the scrubs in wow that are a dps class and want to pull everything and expect a tank to save them all the time? They wouldn’t last a second in the dungeons here and right away they would be saying this game needs tanks and heals..
I agree in part. yes some 5 man dungeons in wow where pretty easy. But some 5 mans and lots of raids had fun mechanics. I feel like GW2 dungeons have a huge lack of mechanics and environmental play most is just kite boss/adds and switch aggro if in trouble. Thats like 90% of the EM mode fights
This is a beautiful game, the best graphic’d MMO out there

This is a fair point when talking about world pve, it shouldn’t be really hard. I think greth is tuned properly for world events I would like all to be so hard.
But, when talking about explorable mode dungeons, the hardest thing in the game, it should be not just hard but very hard to beat. It should take 5 skilled players that are cooperating and thinking through tactics. This is just not how it is. Many explorable modes are done routinely by pugs where they just start boss fights with little to no talking. This would be fine for story mode but for explorable modes? There is nothing wrong with things for the not so skilled players, but why can’t there be hard stuff for the skilled players?
I agree, but I think it would be fair to give the game some time, GW1 didn´t start out with DoA (did it even have FoW and UW at start? cannot remember). Anet was never about make it as easy as possible for everyone, yes, the game isn´t perfect just now, but i think they really created a little diamond here and am willing to watch it grow.
I totally agree and that’s why I post on here in hopes that they will take this to heart and change current/ or make new content to sate these complains.
