I think what gw2 needs is content and mechanics that allow for skillful group content that requires people to actually work together. Right now every roll seems very similar, to the point where there are no roles just 5 players all with the same skills massing their collect strengths to over come a boss rather than each player brings something the group needs.

This leads to a everyone just do dmg and debuff the boss as much as u can and kite.

Today listening to Totalbiscuit, a game caster/review with a large gaming channel on youtube, he said something very interesting.

I quote (and probably not 100% spot on) , " I am Having some of my best times, why? Because coordinated ops with tons of your friends in a massive outfit is a ton of fun. That is what MMO’s are supposed to be about… And more often that not they arent that anymore, they seem to be more single player story based…"

When he said that I though GW2, at least the pve. That is the reason why I stopped playing the game. Most the time it seems like I am playing a single player game where the player might as well be NPC because of how little I need to interact in group with them. Even in dungeons most of the time it takes not strategy just lets throw our group at it and do the same thing we do every fight from 1-80. I miss out fitting big groups and going through the group before a fight telling each man or woman their job this fight and if not working try something else.

This game is awesome!

I think the game is at best ok. It will suffice for casual players that like to donk around around here or there but if you love MMO and they are your main game this game just doesnt cut it . The leveling and world are great but the is a really big lack of game dirrection at lvl 80.

At 80 presently you have killed the main big bad dragon, you can now pvp or grind dungeons(bad in lore and design) that to most are not that fun for pretty looking items.

After chaining a few dungeon’s the other day I became very bored with the fights, every fight seemed so repetitive.

It usually boils down to, attack foe in melee/apply debuffs..wait until targeted dodge out kite/heal, wait till foe changes target and repeat…. (dodge aoe if there is any/if anyione goes down role to revive them)

I just feel like GW2 missed the boat on dungeon mechanics and could really improve here.

This game lacks strong boss battle mechanics both to bad dungeon design and the lack of aggro mechanics. If you want a good dungeon game this is NOT YOUR GAME. IMO GW@ has the worst dungeons in the game they are all very easy and most fights feel incredibly repetitive, plus u can zerg everything if u want to

In good games with good dungeons, I LOVE DUNGEONS….

In GW2 have to go open world as the dungeons are some of the worse ive played

why? They are badly designed and lack need of good mechanics that need good group cohesion to defeat, bot to mention boring as all fights are similar.

  1. elitism
  2. demands for gearscore, dps meters just to do normal content
  3. breaking up the community
  4. adding a caste system to a game
  5. requiring people play dungeons only to progress
  6. making crafting systems even more useless after working all that time to reach max

Ok, im going to go through and explain why your wrong on each one.
1. Eliteism? yes the internet is full of dick bags stupid kitten will always happen
2.Demands gear score. There are two ways to look at this 1) either you are high enough power and the people who are rejecting you are dumb and dicks or 2) you try to jump ahead in content that you have not completed enough of the lower content to do the later stuff.(yes this is fair I dont kitten at games that make me start at level 1 and not beat the final level from the first minute of it)
3. Breaking community, I’d have to say no it doesnt as it requires coheisve guild that work together to best the dungeons that are hard and need people to be geared which is often best done by friends helping. (GW2 has the least together community ever as everything is zerg/puggable) Althought I could see how it could in some areas be playable.
4. Caste? Get real, Just because you have not completed as much content as others doesnt make you any different or less, you are just at a diffrent part of the game.
5. Not true although to get to higher dungeons (which is really the only place GS matters in well made games) it would make sense you get stronger pve stats from lower level dungeons. just like better pvp stats are gotten from pvp. Take wow for example other means such as daily farm and crafting can get you just as good items at a slower rate however which is fair as that is much easier.
6. Crafting in GW2 is the most useless i have ever seen in a game. With very little flavor items and a cosmetic only how could it get any less useful. In other games crafting items can be some of the strongest in game items. (this was your worst point)

I think vertical progression is the way to go, I think GW2 failure in end game has show this to many people.

GW2, is by far the best mmo since Everquest? ????I disagree.

While I love the game it lacks progression in a profound manner, this is ok for people who dont play alot but for some who like the hard challenge some games offer this game doesnt hold up. It has the BEST leveling experience I have ever found!!!! But at max level the games is either FALLS HARD the dungeons are very bad, and all that is left is grind or do map complete for pve player.

Although WoW has its pitfalls it is the KING OF MMO, bar none. You can flame n disagree but player base doesnt lie.

A New Type of Progression

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wookie slayer.4259

wookie slayer.4259

Many people are pointing out quite rightly that GW2 has a end game profession problem. Now while I dont mind vertical progession with gear aka the treadmill, many do.

I believe a new type of progression is needed:
Idea’s so far..
1)player housing where rare items can be displayed, even tho you cant wear it people would still try for rare items to display add to the house.
2) Guild hall with the same purpose but that the whole guild would work toward adding things both purely cosmetic and functional( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-Hall-my-suggestions/first#post645949 )< my thread on this
3) Different upgrades to char skills or extra skills themselves to work for

I think all MMO are driven by progression of your hero and if there is no treadmill then some type of progressive system needs to be put in.

ps: add any other idea’s for a new progression system.

A legendary should be a challenge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To make legendaries “legendary” it should be exceptionally hard to do not just who can farm the most.

My idea would be clear all dungeons/pve large monsters/keep the explorable 100%/ some kind of pvp(not super grind badges)/ And some balls to the wall hard boss dungeon to complete the legendary like a 2nd mystic fountain that appears after the kill completion.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wookie slayer.4259

wookie slayer.4259

Well it’s still not entirely clear how hard it will be to get these two ascended items. We can assume it won’t be super easy, as it is there to provide a sense of progression. It sounds like there are actually four different types of ascended gear: no-infusion slot, defensive infusion slot, offensive infusion slot, and omni-infusion slot. So it could actually be that the lesser difficulties of the new dungeon drop the no-infusion slot (or the stuff to make it) and then as you progress you get the next infusion slot up.

We also aren’t sure what will go in the infusion slot exactly. What is the difference between a defensive and offensive infusion? Infusion is described as dealing with agony— does agony lower your damage output and make you take damage? Do you have to decide between taking less damage and doing more damage? How will we obtain infusions? It sounds like their will be different qualities of infusions also: in this update they are capped at “fine.”

If we infer its easy by seeing how easy it was to get exotic’d out. I’d say every level 80 will be getting the items fairly easy if they want them

Am I the only one who doesnt mind vertical progression aka treadmills?

I love doing pve its what I like. A big part of that for me was beating or trying to beat the boss encounters or dungeons in general. And I was ok with I have to do these 5 dungeons to become stronger then next five after I geared from the first. It always gave me a direction in pve, what I had to do to make my hero stronger to move to the next part of the MMO story( fighting the progressively stronger bad guys, until I killed the boss man himself).

I miss a soild progression of dungeons, at 80 I feel like I have no reason to do a dungeon if I dont find the armor pieces more visually attractive. Hell I love how my guy looks and so what now I’m done with PVE until next expansion? I’d much rather have a tread mill than what we have now.

GW2 is not living up to its potential

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wookie slayer.4259

wookie slayer.4259

The overwhelming feeling that I get when I play GW2 is that it’s a game that was released too soon.

It’s as simple as that. ArenaNet is no doubt having regrets.

People love to make this ridiculous statement. GW2 was just about as polished a release as any I have ever seen. Does it have bugs? Sure, every MMO does… even WoW which has been out for many years still has bugs.

And if they had delayed releasing it, I bet you and the guy you quoted would be first in line crying about the delay, saying ‘just release it already!’.

So that ‘it was released too soon’ is just such a tired, worn out argument that it needs to be retired.

Have you not played the dungeons? The stroy modes have decnt ok mechanics. The explorable modes are JOKES, its clear they ran out of time with mechanics and said what the hell just make them do aoe or summon adds and have lots of health, thats like 90% of the Exp modes lol. The Zhitan fight, come on turn cannon at weird angle jam fire button for 5 mins and win HAHA, this game has so much potential but was just executed bad in so many area’s, the biggest being the dungeons.

Explorable Dungeons are Too Easy at Level 80

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: wookie slayer.4259

wookie slayer.4259

Encounters in this game get easier because folks progressively get better at adding to the total dps while not dying…. not because they’re better coordinated in a team sense.

I think about boss fights like WoW’s Azuregos from Sunwell; where you had people going in and out of the real world and “demon realm” to essentially fight two different bosses at the same time that you had to kill within a few seconds of each other or else the fight would fail. Even if you have awesome gear and individual skill, a team that lacks coordination cannot finish the fight. Few of these encounters exist in GW2 and most of them aren’t actually boss encounters.

WHAT HE SAID^^^^^^^ GW2 could learn alot from wow on boss mechanics. Even with out the trinity a lot of boss mechanics could be taken from the king of MMOs

Explorable Dungeons are Too Easy at Level 80

wookie slayer.4259

Yes yes, dungeons are easy. Actually they are not. As many mentioned, any content gets super easy if you have a good group, fully geared, know what you are doing and have done it infinity times before.

Until, they make dungeons that can dynamicly adjust to your strengths, most content will get easier after awhile, unless they are so hard only the leet few can do them.

I dont think dungeons should be a total gear test i think they should reley more on skill (do x when boss does y) to say that yes it is ok that the dungeons are super easy because you have some gear and are level 80 is well pretty crappy. I’d go as far to say the hard modes should be hard enough where not everyone can do it on there first few trys. Because if everyone can do it then that leaves lots of good players going wow this is boring.

You dont need rewards to participate in something. Theres this little thing called fun.

YA WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY FUN!!!!! which most the time its just a grind, and this is an MMO!!!!!!!! Which means there need to be rewards attached to doing content that is how they work.

The end game is centered around skins. But really who wants to spend hours and hours just getting skins. It feels so much better to get a power upgrade for your hard work whether it be in stats like most games or a new type of ability would be neat but insainly hard to balance implement.

Honestly i would not mind a vertical stat progression instead working my kitten off for skins.

Why can't I get myself to play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

wookie slayer.4259

I am just gonna toss this in since I think more than one voice should be heard, and the OPs voice doesn’t speak for everyone.

Aspects of the game and what I like to play/enjoy will differ from other people, just as the OPs does. I know many players who like to do dungeons, who like to do completions, who like to explore, who enjoy the Personal Story, who like to Craft, who like to Gather materials. I don’t enjoy any of this, but that doesn’t make me say this game has issues keeping me entertained, or a lot of the game doesn’t peak my interest.

What I do like:

I like to level characters, learn the skills and traits for a profession, try out various builds, some copied some my own. I don’t mind doing hearts and dynamic events but they aren’t overwhelmingly exciting to me. Eventually I like getting my characters to max level, gearing them out, transmuting armor bits I like on my characters, pvping. My end game is PvP, but I have done almost nothing with it so far.

I think this game is very good overall. I think a lot of touch ups, bug fixes and balancing can take it forward.

Not every game is for every one. If you do not like enough about a game to want to play it, instead of forcing yourself or in some cases continuously posting negative posts because YOU aren’t happy, find another game. We don’t all like Monopoly, I know I don’t. Do I play Monopoly? Nope.

This not every game is for everyone idea is true, but doesnt really apply to a game that needs members to keep going. It needs to have everyone like it when a lot of people are going “games getting pretty meh” an MMO had problems

Why can't I get myself to play?

This is the biggest issue that Anet needs to address – the game is simply not rewarding enough.

You get a full set of exotic gear. Great. You should be wanting to get another. But you don’t. Because they’re all just skins, and getting one simply takes way to long.

You should be wanting to get legendaries. But you really dont. Because the requirement is way too hardcore and risky there’s no guarantee you’ll get it even if you work hard. (magic clover and the precursor anyone?)

The game’s packed with contents, but none of them had satisfactory rewards.
Wvw doesn’t give you any rewards besides badge and once again they’re all just skins.
If loot bags drop runes according to your level regularly, or if pvp actually gives you runes that can used in wvw, then people will have more things to do.

Not to mention the declining economy.

Having a server wide trading post actually destroys the economy because farming mats on higher population server is easier (due to the faster respawn rate and wvw bonus) and people transfer to high pop server like flocks because its free. Price drop like crazy and on lower pop server you only get chimp changes from going out of your way to farm. So you stop. And just spam events and buy the mats.

But then eventually you realize you can hardly do any events because there are no people to do it with because…well you’re on a lower pop server. Then you think to yourself ‘well pike this I’m doing spvp". You go to the mist and realize everyone is rolling thieve mesmer and warrior. Turn to wvw, only to find your server has no zerg and you get punished for even trying because your gear breaks. Try to change to a higher pop server but they’re all ‘full". So eventually you think to yourself, "Pike this again, I’m quitting" . After you quit, other people quit with you because there are even few players to play with.

This has happened to Henge of Denravi. It will happen to many other server if nothing is done.

YES WHAT HE SAID ^^^^^^^^^^^^ this game is just not rewarding there is no uniqueness everything is so easy to get that nothing is special. There is no challenge to work for. (legendaries being a huge grindfest and a joke)
