Many thing doesn’t hold true in your post, especially this one.

If that is true, then I don’t see why running the dungeons here in GW2 to get badges so that you can purchase the gears you want is not better than running raids in hopes for a high level drops.

It seems that the problem here is your preference and not the game itself.

The true part about his post is, that you have to grind through dungeons until you get the reward you wanted. I would like to see longer content with higher rewards.
That would help lowering the grind experience.

I have to say there are few things in GW2 you can do, they’re fun but since you have to grind those few things, like dungeons, championfarming, Worldboss-farming or resourcefarming all day long, they become very grindy. I would love to go out to maps like Timberline falls and farm eventchains. But until I don’t get a proper reward which can compete with dungeonrewards, I wont.

The most funny moments happend in LA anyways. Mystery tonics where involved…

Also, I highly suggest that you guys make a post in one of the CDI threads in General Discussion at some point in time to voice your opinions on what you want changed (the current topic is Horizontal Discussion, not a thread for changes though, but you should keep an eye out for future threads).

Just a tickbox for ‘true night’ would be nice, I’d love to solo roam WvW in the dark!

Only to be killed by the zerg you never saw but that saw you a mile away.

I’d rather see what’s going on than have it “realistically dark”.

If they want to make it an option, sure. But they sure as heck shouldn’t force it on everyone just because some want more immersion.

Too many conditions has been used.
Either the attackdamge would be pretty low or you have to get rid of some of the conditions. Basically a good idea, would like to see some new weapons for the ranger.

A slider would be cool. So you can choose how dark you want the night to be. I would take the darkest possible option.

Main hand :
Sword is ok for small scale, but hard to do the chain without target, so I feel like it’s more a small-scale weapon…
Axe. 3 targets on AA? makes it bad for 1v1, not so good in big scale. We do need a somewhat ranged main hand… maybe instead of having it bounce we can have it explode on target fo AOE damage? or make it so it can bounce on us to give us and advantage? (I’d say swiftness for speed of movement, or fury to augment damage).
I’m fine with 2.
I’d like 3 to have some area damage, or reduced CD.

My initial idea was to have 2 autoattacks on one weapon, so you can choose between ranged low dps and melee high dps autoattacks.
The current axe #2 and #4 are both nice gimmicks, the #2 as an AoE projectile finisher and #4 as pull but both skills are clunky and not very effective. However if you combine both skills you got a reliable pull with projectile finisher.

Knock target back to beyond 900 range and flank them for the 30% crit damage and 10% crit chance bonus. Hunter’s Shot hits so you reset openning strikes and daze them which triggers moment of clarity. Kill Shot with 100% crit chance. If you pop trinkets, it may hit as hard as a warrior’s :/

Torch

Noone has aver talked about the torch. Why? Because noone uses it.
This doesn’t have to mean the torch is bad, it just means that there are much more vialbe offhand weapons. This wont change. Therefore my suggestion is:

Make the torch to a mainhand weapon.
Torch #1:
Simply like every other autoattackchain.
It could inflict burning, though.
Torch #2:
I’ve got two ideas so far:
Either you hit one enemy which will cause him to stack burning like warrior sword #4 stacks tornment and leave a firetrail
or this attack will be an explofinisher.
Torch #3:
This one will be a firefield wich either stacks burning or deals a flat amount of damage to enemies within the radius.

Longbow
The Longbow has one of the longest ranges ingame but due to the damageloss of the pet and the range combined with the fact that most classes in PvP or WvW can simply blink to you, the weapon is nearly useless.
My suggestions are focussed around durability, so you can atleast hold your distance to your target.

Longbow #1:
This should be an attackchain like any other melee weapon autoattack.
The 3. attack should cripple your enemy, so you can maintain your distance.
Longbow #2:
Should be a channeling shot. As longer you channel, as further the arrow flies, as more damgae it deals and roots or knockbacks the enemy.
Longbow #3:
This needs a massive damage increase. Since stealth is pretty useless in PvE and the damage is below the weakest autoattack, there is no point where you want to press 3.
Longbow #4:
I’m debating wether it should be a root or a knockback.
The knockback is a nice way to get rid of defiant stacks. However the root would synergise more with other weapons. Should have the opposite effect of the LB #2.
Longbow #5:
This attack is ok but it would be nice if you could cast it while running.
Another nice idea is that you can cast barrage without groundtargeting, so you can shoot it over walls in WvW.

Axe

The axe is a short range ranged weapon which can do lots of things but outshines no other weapon. It got a pull, a reflect, a slow, pseudo AoE and lots of finishers.
However the damage is rather pitiful.
So here are my suggestions:

Axe #1:
Change the autoattack to melee with higher damage output
Axe #2:
Combine old Axe #2 and #4, so you got an AoE pull which pulls all enemies hit.
Axe #3:
I’m kinda ok with this attack.
Axe #4:
This will be the old axe #1. So you can choose between melee and ranged attacks.
Axe #5:
It’s ok, but it could be stronger. The reflected damage could be doubled, the cooldown lowered or the range increased.

If you don’t like the suggstion of the mainhand melee axe, you could switch axe #1 and axe #4.

Sword

The sword is a very mobile weapon with 4 leaps and 1 evade on 3 attacks.
However the gameplay feels very clunky due to the long cast-/aftercast times and the uninterruptible leaps on the autoattack chain.
I want to keep the mobility of this weapon but also make all of its spells on demand.
So here are my suggestions:

Sword #1:
Remove the leaps on the 2. and 3. autoattack and replace it with some thing else.
I don’t want to have a simple 3hit combo, but I don’t know what would fit to the kit – room for suggestions!
Sword #2:
Hornet Sting is neither instant nor predictable where you will land in the heat of battle.
I would rework this to a double leap, same as the 2. and 3. autoattack now is, which cripples your enemy if you hit him and turns into a tripple leap if you hit an enemy once. This skill would get a long uptime of 10 seconds, so you don’t have to leap immediately after your first leap to use all your charges, and a mediocre long cooldown of 20 seconds, starting after the first leap.
Sword #3:
Serpent’s Strike got an evade and is an instant ability, which is both nice. However the animation is too long. So either the evade time has to increase to match the animation time or the animation time has to be cut to match the evade time.
Alternatively, the animation could be changed, so you wont dodge around your target but through your target, just like a normal dodgeroll.

-A sidebar notifier (right up there with the LS stuff) for world bosses and active temple events would be pretty useful.

You can use the GW2Stuff Overlay. You just have to run GW2 in windowed mode.

They should add a sound if you’ve found a secret, like in Tomb Raider. So you know when you’ve found stuff which isn’t meant to be found easy.

the player limit on a map(how many it will allow before creating overflow instances) is not based only on performance issues, Anet has factored in balance issues.

ie: even if the servers and every player’s system could handle it, do you really want to have 600 ppl fighting the same champ?

They have to set an upper limit on the encounter size to make any kind of balance choices.

If Tequatl ranks up properly, the event will be just as hard for 600 ppl as for 100.
If this wont work you can still implemet a hardcap of damage Tequatl can take per second.

The night is way too bright.
Please make it darker or atleast add an option to ‘turn off the light’. #Qo(n)L

To specify my idea:

  • Add a slider therewith the player can decide how dark the night should be for him alone
  • You don’t have to use it if you don’t want to
  • My initial idea wasn’t supposed to affect PvP or WvW since you simply can turn it off if it handycaps you
  • However if you want to discuss weather and daytime having an affect on the gameplay, I would recommend using this thread:

on alpha you already evade its only natural that your pet gets invulnerability when you dodge.

This is one example out of so many others. Especially if you playing with bows your pet will soak up much more damage than you will.
Same with positioning. If you get behind an enemy to evade his next attack, your pet wont.

This idea is dumb. I already have to heal myself in order to heal my pet who is taking damage. Now I also have to evade, wasting my endurance, for my pet.
No, thank you.
However kyubi’s idea is neat. Upon your dodge your pet gains an aegis. If this aegis gets pope , your pet gains protection and/or regen for several seconds.

Well i have a kudzu which i think is a kool legendary if your sylvari, personally i dont feel it fits any other race ast well.

To kinda answer your question your two preferences, id tend to agree with everyone else that the warhorn can be used in so many different builds and also kind fits into the ranger theme. I love the dagger too but dont seem to use that offhand that much and feel its better put on a thief, ele and Nec. where the effects would be noticable =].

horn got more viabel builds than lonbow..:D

If you’re talking about viable builds, every weapon gets used more than ranger longbow.

If you wanna say Rangers need some unique combat techniques (Kiting and Pet sux!!1!), I agree.
If you want the Ranger to deal more damage, I agree.
If you want the Ranger to stealth himself all the time, I disagree.
We got enough classes (mainly Thiefs and Mesmers) who can stealth and use this as mechanics.

Long Greatswords

Who cares about damage, the longness is all a greatsword is about.

I mean, just look at this: An Eternity from a ranger is about 15.4% longer than one from a warrior or guardian! Thats just the line between very long and not very long.

Gonna build an Eternity now and laugh at warriors with Eternity in LA, telling them go play Dagger/Shield or something like that with your Eternity, teehee.

That means clipping issues all the way… yay…
Also, the visible length is related to the size of your character.

Ele water fields are not better than healing spring. For an ele to put down a water field they need to be using a staff, which has only one decent dps build that requires you to stay in fire attunement. If you switch to water, you render the build useless. Rangers on the other hand sacrifice nothing. Healing spring also has a much longer duration and shorter recharge.
Ranger with sword/x using a jaguar and sick em will do just as much or even more damage than a warrior. And yes you can keep your pet alive if you aren’t completely terrible.
Banners do provide more boost than frost spirit, but you can’t say one is just better when they are both unique. Banners and frost spirit and empowered allies and spotter together is way better than just banners and empowered allies. Why bring only some of what you could bring?

Ele waterfields are indeed “weaker” as the ranger healing spring but the staff brings 2 of them. 1 also stacks regen and removes coditions, the other one gives you a flat amount of health back.
Also the ele can support the group way better with buffs/summoned weapons and has, from what I’ve heared , in theory the highest dps with staff. At least, if you play ele with summoned weapons, you’re always attuned to water.

Sick ’em holds 10 secs and has a cooldown of 40 secs. Even if you deal more damage than a fully buffed warrior, which I doubt, it will only last 10 secs.

Yes, banners and spirits are stackable but the banner still outshines the spirit. Not to mention it wont follow you and can die. With FGS most warriors should get more than 80% precision, so spotter will be pretty useless for them.

Let’s just imagine a CoE run. Both your pets will be dead within the first seconds due to the AoE of subject alpha. So will be you frostspirit. Your groupssupport falls to near zero.

And the build you posted is the “only one working” brazil build and I don’t like it. Mainy because I don’t like the sword.

You have sword #2, sword #3 a weapon swap and if you still think youlack of evades, you can get a dagger offhand for dagger#4

On top of that if you turn auto attacks off (you should have), you can just dodge (normal endurance dodge) before the third attack of the sword chain.

I have ages to die due to sword so called “root – chain” (drunk times do not count)

Yeah, you can evade with sword #2 and #3 but those are not instant. Same with the normal evade if you’re at the 1. or 2. autoattack chain.
I don’t want to say it’s impossible. I just say it’s stupid. Why should I as a ranger get the most diffcult weapon to use, if I got already this stupid pet.
Srsly, if you want to deal max. damage with a warrior, you have to click 3 buttons and mash the kitten out of 1-5.
As a ranger, you have to hit like 10 buttons to deal 7 secs full damage before your first buff runs out.

  • What do Rangers do better than any other class? They use environmental weapons better. Icebow, fiery axe flaming great sword dps is great on a Ranger.

You got something srsly wrong here.
The power damage of a ranger is cut to 70% due to our pet.
Using summoned weapons just removes this cap. However, if our pet dies in splitseconds to a boss, where is our advantage?

  • In dungeon what players want is easy not skill.

Indeed. I, as a confident speedrunner, want to clear a dungeon as fast as possible and don’t want to waste time on mistakes of my ranger due to his high skillcap.

  • Mesmer are a crap class the only thing the offer is timewarp and stealth. Thieves Blind and stealth. They are great for skipping content in a real fight spend a lot of time dead.

Are you serious? Apart from the timewarp or the stealth mesmers are very good in blocking attacks (e.g. reaction), in removing conditions (e.g. nullfield), or simply skipping (e.g. portal). Thiefes on the other hand have mediocre AoE (e.g. shortbow), can pull single targets (scorpion wire) and have a very high burstpotential (which comes in handy in CoF P1 as example).
Rangers just ad nothing (despite from spotter) to a group which other classes couldn’t do better.

  • As far as Group no wanting or wanting a certain class it just shows their lack of ablility. You never need a certain class for any dungeon run if you know how to do it right. Exploiting and glitch has become the norm of dungeon which is sad. Some People who claim to be fractal experts don’t even know how to do some runs without exploiting (like the Dregde Fractal)

The only glitches I know getting abused (beside fractals) are in Arah.

  • Not every build or weapon set can overcome every class. Axe main had is a good power weapon yes it has condition but has up 1.5k crit x 3 how can you complain about this weapon.

In fact, the only weapon who is near “not useless” is the sword and it’s very hard to control the autoattack.
Axe is only good if you can hit 3 targets and thats not helping you killing your main target faster.

It’s simply your if you get hit by a longbow beyond 1000 range. It’s so easy to kite those slow arrows.
And if commanders would use the tactics you are thinking of the enemy would either be gone 3 minutes ago or would just stomb you immediately.

  • Rangers learn to use your stow button (yes it would be better if you could key bind it). Having your pet attack from you side make it easier to keep an eye on your pet. It also makes it easier for you to learn the timing of your pet. Those of you who complain pets never work; this will improve how you and your pet work together.

The only things you can tell your pet are “attack the enemy”, “come back to me” or “use your super-secret-special-attack-thingie”. Appart from that beeing not enough options to control your pet effectively, the AI is broken and not really responsive. There are enough threads messing with the pet. Pet is broken and it will remain broken for awhile.

Rangers are top tier in dungeons, eiths just they need to run one specific build and do it fairly well, which 95% of people dont do, thus giving rangers a bad name in top tier dungeons thus making people reject rangers out of hand because its not for the risk.

That and also there are plenty people who dont realise rangers can and are good in dungeons if played right so they continue with the previous wisdom of “no rangers”.

All that is community problems though, not really balance problems.

If you actually did your research you’d realize that that rangers are in a good place at the moment. Top tier in PvE dungeons and sPvP tournaments and also good roamers in WvW.

So rangers are top tier dungeon runners?
I want to see how you run dungeons because what i’ve experienced so far, rangers are mostly the worst dungeonrunners.
Every class has a reason to be chosen in a dungeonrun but I see no point where a ranger is better than other classes.

The point is, that legendaries consume a lot of time and gold, just for the skin (and you can switch your stats… wow)
On the one hand this is reasonable to hold the game horizontal.
On the other hand you just wasting a hell lot of mats on a skin.

Yes, those ones are… two out of how many though? Also they could easily be adapted to Largos. If they’re wearing a wet suit it means they go on land primarily, because if you live in the ocean you don’t need a wet suit, you would have evolved to live and function in your environment.

All those skins have to be adapted to the Largos race since they would be, same as the Asura, conservatively dressed.

Underwater Mask Hide

I’m just wondering if it would be cool if you could upgrade your normal headpiece to also work underwater.
Since there is no real lvl80 diversity for underwater masks it’s just pain to invest in a 7. rune for your underwater kit or you simply don’t have the stats you want.

They maybe live underwater because they can move fast and silently (mantastyle) but they are indeed capable of surviving on land.
But it would be hard to ad any detail or lineaments, since they’re wearing a mask.
Also, from what I’ve seen, they’re always wearing some sort of a full body swimsuit which stands in contrast to the most half-naked armorskins in the game.

The Ranger has a lack of main hand weapons.
But I do like the idea of a spear as non-aqua weapon.

There could be the option if you rightclick on someone, just like ‘invite to group’, you can ask for a ‘duel request’. If you got a request it will pop up like a group request does right now. If you decline, they can’t ask you again for the next 10 minutes or so, to prevent spammers.
Also you could ad ‘request group duel’ if the player is in a group, same as ‘request guild duel’. If you accept the guild/group duel all members in your guild/group will get an seperate request which they can deline or accept.
The duel will finish with the first one in downstate. In a guild/group duel you will excrete if you go into downstate.

Well that says it all doesn’kitten Your system is to blame (mostly), not anet.

When you use a WP, even in the same map, all the server has to do is move your position in world, simple as that, x,y,z.

You computer on the other hand has to go on the HDD and load everything that’s needed, if this was poorly programmed you wouldn’t notice much of a difference between high and low, it’s a case of fetching a high res texture instead of a low one for example, the overall speed of your system will determine the length of the loading screen.

As for your suggestion, trust me you wouldn’t like it, immediately load the world in low res and then progressively start loading in high res would be too annoying, all that pop in and all, but I get it why you’d like it, champ train, right?

Now instead of putting anet resources on doing something “useless”, you can try guest on a lower population server so by the time you get to the champ he won’t be down already, look at a swiftness, creat a chat tab where only the links to the WPs show in order. Hope that helps.

You got something wrong here.
First of all, it doesn’t matter on which beast of a computer you play on, your loadingscreen will be reduced if the game loads the low resolution first and “upgrades” itself to high resolution afterwards, you might just not realize it that much.
Take LA as expample. Due to the high amount of character models the loading screen is very long. If you run low settings, including culling, LA will be loaded much faster.
Also, my suggestion isn’t useless, it’s very easy to pull off. ANet just has to combine the low settings with an automatic chance to high settings once the loading screen is finished and for a lot of players the loadingtime will decrease drastically.
Atleast, this idea can be added as an option so you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.

Managed Groups for content sellers

This suggestion is geared to content sellers (especially to dungeonpath sellers).

Disclaimer:
I know there are until now only a few things that get selled (mainly arah paths).
And I know there are a lot of bugs which get abused to clear those paths.
Those problems should be encountered first.

But many sellers nowadays falling victims to trollers who kick the seller out of his own group.

This problem could be encountered by a new grouptype, the managed group.
A managed group would have a leader who cant be kicked out of the group and can kick other people without a vote.
This group would be labeled differently to prevent exploitation in normal dungeonpaths.
