Yeah, this is very obviously a problem, and it isn’t unique to the Warrior LB. Autoattacks need to be effective enough to supply a healthy baseline of steady DPS while being supplemented by other skills. Most weapons function this way but there are a few outliers, which are always ranged weapons. They all have very poorly tuned aftercasts for the amount of damage they do which makes them about as effective as fighting with a wet noodle in most situations.
Thief/Engi Pistol, Ele Staff, and Memser Scepter are all in the same boat. Possibly others.
As an aside, anyone using the “warrior is not a ranger” argument have an amazingly poor comprehension of about a hundred different things, so please just stop.
Yeah, please buff the warrior LB autoattack, so the ranger LB is completely useless.
Wait, I’ve got a better idea: Simply remove all classes exept the warrior, since the warrior is top-notch in every single aspect already.
I simply love these warrior fools. Complaining about a weapon who doesn’t do as much damage as 100b GS while simply ignoring the fact that the warrior is THE best class in the game right now.
Get the belance fixed first, then you can start complain again.Ladies and gentlemen, I exhibit evidence part 1.
Firstly, I don’t even main warrior.
Secondly, the issue of warrior LB auto-attack bears little relevance to the question of the warrior’s OPness OR to the question how effective the Ranger’s LB is. Ranger’s LB used to have the exact same problem, and they fixed it without fixing the Warrior’s.
The warrior LB and ranger LB haven’t even the same playstyle. While warrior LB is the stronger the closer you are to your target. The ranger LB is the stronger the further away your target is. Also, the warrior LB is mainly a hybrid weapon with strong skills and strong conditions. The ranger LB on the other hand, despite being incredible weak, is mainly defined through it’s autoattack.
So stop calling the warrior LB weak if he isn’t even designed for pure autattacking.

this is working as intended because warriors are meant to be the easiest profession to play. do you remember that guild wars 2 is a very casual game and has a lot of casual players? casual players like to play easy professions.
The warrior omnipresence is fine – it’s exactly as you said. However, that doesn’t mean warriors should be the best ,verywhere, otherwise, what are the rewards of playing a more complex profession?

We don’t need many changes aside from sword AA changes, a little more “ranged” love, and an AI update or being damage scaled to 80-20 Self/Pet rather then 60/40. Play trapper ranger for wubwub, spirit/trapper for spvp, and PVE is pathetic enough it doesn’t matter what you do.
Also, wrong forum.
i would say all weapons need sone love since the sword is the only viable weapon but get handycapped by the AA chain.

removing illusions would be like removing adrenaline from warriors, no one has asked for that. Your special mechanic is adrenalin not land speed, or the ability to almost ignore movement impairing effects, or the best passive healing, or the highest dps, or the highest hard cc (stun, knock backs, knock downs). So please stop playing at the game of everything you have is the definition of your class, its not and right now warriors are outside the balance spectrum and something needs to change. Warriors are too good at to many things and it seems the only people who don’t know this are warriors and devs.
btw, I think the real issue started at release when warriors started getting buffs and other classes ate nerfs. So even with nerfs the the warrior you still wouldn’t be in the same place as release because most classes are much different then we where back then.
do you know that warriors already got "best landspeed" during launch? just that during launch, they lack the sustain they have now, so no one bothered to say anything.
regarding nerfs, warriors have been receiving fair amount of nerfs since 10 dec 2013.
warriors will always have the best landspeed.
this will not change.
would you all warrior haters kindly please stop asking for the impossible?
thank you.
So warriors got the best landspeed since launch? Since one month we got this wonderful subforum where we can complain about it.

1. Keep on doing Living Story but make it permanent.
2. Make ascended gear stat-switchable
3. Expand PvP with GvG, random arenas, deathmatch ….If you do that GW2 will be king.
Peace!
0. Calling your own ideas genius don’t necessarily make them genius.
1. Don’t make it permanent. It would be wierd to still be fighting Scarlet related stuff, and hear Scarlet’s voice during those evernts if we killed her already.
2. no opinion, since as far as I know, ascended gear is supposed to be a long term goal, not something you get once, then never have an active part in the game’s economy again.
3. If GvG is put into the game, how do you balance it? How does a 20 man guild fight a 50 man guild?
1. Add an item where you can recap all instances and cutscenes of the LS.
2. Legendaries can switch stats.
3. Just make it non competitve. You can fight as a 20man guild vs a 40man guild but you don’t have to. And you will neither gain or lose something if you win/lose.

Simple.
Update the AI like you want it to happen and leave the darker night optional, like I’ve suggested. Some people already said, that they don’t want the brightness to be changed.
Well, it wouldn’t change for them if ANet would implement a slider.Point… missed.
The darker nights, the phasing of the moon, these all tie in visually the potentially changed effects for everyone. I’m not calling for night so dark you can’t see ten feet, just noticeably darker with the changes reflecting the phases for example. It all ties together into something I see with great potential, and potential that shouldn’t be tied to a slider.
I think the devs had a good reason for keeping the night as bright as it is now.
However many people (not all!) have stated that they want darker nights.
So, in my opinion, my suggestion of an individual nightbrightness is advantageous for most people.

Darker nights would be nice. However I wonder how that would effect WvW…
Therefore add a slider, so noone has to use it if he don’t want to.
No, that’s ridiculous. Practically no one would if it gave a visual disadvantage… so the thought of adding a slider that only a fraction of a percent would use seems like it fails the risk/reward sniff test.
I venture many PVE’ers would. Where PVP/WvW are concerned, though, yah they’d ignore the slider.
Like VOLKON said, it’s ridiculous in WvW or PvP to set yourself on a disadvantage. Therefore I’ve suggested a slider…
What I dislike is limiting the massive potential of utilizing the day/night cycle to truly affect the game, with phasing changes of the moon, unique mobs for the darker nights carrying unique loot and the like because instead of actually affecting the game as a whole you’ve tied darkness to a slider instead. A slider takes all the potential and throws it in the garbage. Things you can’t do with a slider:
Allow for phase changes of the moon with relative changes in the night albido.
Allow for new mobs to spawn on the darker nights that possess unique loot.
Allow for unique events to trigger at night.
Allow for changes in strategies in WvW when darkness could potentially be used for added stealth. That just scratches the surface of what I can think of, I’m sure others could add more to it as a whole. Imagine an open world dungeon that only becomes accessible during the new moon for example, or the full moon even?
You could have all that and more… or a slider.
Like I’ve said in a previous post. Our ideas don’t bar each other.
You can have an optional nightbrightness setting and updated gameplay during the night.
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
Slider is totally unnecessary – you already have gamma for that. just make it a bit darker at night time and it’ll be good enough.
Lol, we had this idea already and it got sorted out as the worst possible option.
No, sorry, I didn’t mean use Gamma to make nighttime darker. I meant Anet needs to make night a little darker, and if it’s too much for some people they can brighten their gamma bit.
Concerns:
- Wouldn’t be optional
- Would also affect daylight
- Would affect all lightsources, like torches

It should be kept in mind that environmental game lighting consists of numerous light ‘objects’ as well as larger ambient light areas, all with individual settings of hue/saturation/brightness/radius etc. and scripted behavior. A second optional lighting setup would require a duplicate of all environmental lights to exist in game. While a good idea it might not be feasible from a technical standpoint.
I’d be more than happy if they just simply made the nights globally darker and more dramatic for everyone.
There are 2 huge enviromental lights.
The first one is a white light which lights up the day enviroment.
The second one is a blue light which lights up the enviroment at night times.
Just simply give us the control over the brightness of this blue light and it’s done. This isn’t exactly true. I’ve done quite a bit of 3d modeling and environmental design for games (studying to get into the industry myself) and lighting for a game is not as simple as it may seem. Granted lighting games like Skyrim is far more complex than an MMORPG but there are still multiple light and environmental effects with many settings, behaviors, and interplay.
Here’s one of my favorite GW2 developer videos illustrating this that might be helpful.
About 20 minutes into the video they start playing with lighting and environmental effects in real-time. I love that part.Guild Wars 2 Developer Guide: PvP map creation
I didn’t want to discourage discussion about making lighting settings optional, just wanted to point out there is a technical side of this to consider.
Thats true, but still, I don’t think that it will be much effort to make the nightbrightness controlable. 1 week of recoding would be enough I think and the devs would do many players a favor.

With a lot of empathy I could understand that the warrior LB isn’t at the best spot right now.
But ALL other classes are worse in PvE. Help fix ranger first, then you can start complaining again.
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
Precursor is a special weapon you need to craft a legendary. For example, you need the Lover’s shortbow to craft the legendary Dreamer in the mystic forge.
As far as crafting, don’t count on it dude. If/When it does come out, it likely will not be a lot less than just buying one now. I imagine it will be something along the lines of…
- Two crafts at level 500
- 250 ecto
- 250 of a new mat gained by forging an exotic of the weapon type, skill points, ascended mats.
- Item made of:
- 100 of an item that costs 1g+ each
- one super expensive sigil
- one super expensive recipe
- 250 of some ascended refined mat.
The moment the recipes are actually released the trading post barons are going to buy the bulk of the mandatory mats and relist them at super inflated prices.
Just go ahead and abandon any notion you have that they will launch the recipes and people will just be able to too-ra-loo-ra craft them. Whatever the system is, it will eat a good bit into the reserves you have saved to actually make the legendary and cause more frustration than farming the gold to buy one.
IMO players should be able to get one precursor, soulbound, per character, by completing a difficult and lengthy, weapon specific quest chain or scavenger hunt. Ala Black Moa Chick. That keeps precursors from flooding the market, it gives players the one they want, it can reward varied gameplay and it doesn’t demoralize players who look at this huge expensive list of stuff they have to collect or save and feel burnt out before they begin. Crafting precurors will be none of those things.
I don’t like this idea; it just costs much more gold. Would be nice if ANet could implement something that don’t forces me to grind dungeons even more.
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
I think the trinity still persists in someway. It’s just not that some classes are bound to dps/tank/heal but any class could fulfill all roles.
The problem of the current meta is simply the lack of challenging content.
You shouldn’t be able to to clear content with zerker only.
Another problem is, that the 3 different armortypes implify a trinity. But since the heavy armor warrior deals the most damage destroyes the idea of every class being equally effective.
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
This thread is ridiculous. Warrior recieves one nerf which causes instant complains.
1. The ranger LB is still way worse than the warrior LB.
2. The warrior shoots 2 arrows, not just 1, like the ranger LB does.
3. The warrior LB is all about AoE, conditiondamage and lockdown. If you’re just using LB #1, you do something wrong.

Serously, you can start complaining if you’re ever as bad as the ranger LB, which I doubt would happen.
People complain about warrior going to be nerfed, despite being still incredible strong, while ranger is still useless in any kind of structured PvE.

EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
I honestly never thought I would feel this way, because it is after all only a game. And its no fee system has always been a big attraction for me. But enough is enough. When a class is shunned by the playerbase you know there is a problem that needs rectified ASAP.
It happened with GW1 Wa/Mo classes, those got a “bad rep” for years in the game but where still kinda required as they fulfilled a role. Rangers in GW2 have no role, they don’t have enough utility, party support, DPS, or condition clearing. Worst class in the game atm, and Anet solution is to make matter worse for them.
Well, you can’t ispect bug fixing as nerf, but still, no real effort from ANet ever to solve the issues of the rangers. Since nearly 1 Year the ranger is stated as useless in any kind of partyplay. The Ranger is simply a roaming class, since noone can tell you what you have or have not to play in normal PvE. However this is in no way an excuse for the enormous imbalance.
I would really like to thank ANet for this game which such wealth of detail but since the balance is such a pain I cannot.
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
(edited by xXxOrcaxXx.9328)
I’ve played Ranger for nearly a year, and recently invested heavily in ascended zerker gear.
Anet you just ruined my character and ripped me off for my gold and laurels. The whole point of me going zerkers was to bring my DPS up to a level where it wasnt horribad compared to other classes. Now that’s completely wasted. Im done, no more GW2 until such time as the balance team actually get its head out of its anus and start balancing Rangers properly instead of hitting them with the nerf bat over and over again.
This is a prime example of what’s wrong with Anet; Nerf an entire stat set that is most prevalent rather than buff the other sets and correct design mistakes in encounter and monster design which caused the perceived imbalance in the first place.
So the sum total of ranger atm is; Broken pets that wont be fixed because Anet is to bloody lazy, bad weapon skills, idiotic traits, useless signets, crappy utility skills, atrocious DPS with anything other than sword and “meta” builds, and last but not least the entire class is shunned by the playerbase.
GG Anet, really GG.
I’m afraid that masses of players have to stop playing this game before ANet even relizes that there are serious unsolved balancing issues over and over.
tbh if I had to invent a new MMO, I would hire all of ANet’s designers and none of their balance teams.
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
(edited by xXxOrcaxXx.9328)
I knew right from the beginning that putting builds aligned too much with gear would be an issue. It would be too difficult to balance correctly.
They need to work on the gameplay mechanics and combat rather than nerf a specific gear set.
I can see a ton of future uninstalls if this nerfhammer comes to fruition. That’s highly irrational. Something needs to be done to reduce the dominance of Zerker.
How about a buff for toughness, conditions and healing?? GW2 is all about DPS. So, instead of altering the mechanics of the broken combat of GW2 they lower the DPS of the main build that people use. That is irrational…and lazy game development.
I highly recommend reading this post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal/page/61#post3491959
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
The problem is not teaching the system, it’s challenging the players. Most of the content in this game consists of very crude opponents, mindless melee monsters who stroll towards the player or imbecilic ranged enemies who stand still while someone bashes them in the face. Likewise, most monsters have one single cooldown skill, a rather pathetic lack of resources.
Quoted for truth.
And really, the dumber monster AI is the more often you get calls to split skills between PvE and PvP behaviors. The effort spent making smarter, nastier, more vicious critters pays off double in the less you have to manage parallel skills between gameplay modes.
[…]
And this is not a call for the (un)holy trinity. The trinity is also based on BAD agro behavior. There is a reason the MMO-tank doesn’t exist in the real world: it is based on the attacker’s complete stupidity. You don’t attack the lowest threat + highest mitigation target first (without arbitrary mind-control… er, ‘taunts’). Games that rely on tanks as a role end up having to do backflips trying to make them relevant in PvP. Again: dumb monsters prompting dumb classes that fall apart when faced with human opponents.Instead this is the call for more relevant Support and Control. If Critters were actually dangerous, there would be a place for helping the “priority target” survive either by healing/defensively buffing them (Support) or by debuffing or CCing the attackers (Control).
The issue of unsatisfying role balance is something to be laid at the feet of the AI design as much or more than any inequity on the player skill choices side.
I do agree with you in all points mentioned. However, I don’t think this would solve all issues.
So if the devs could make challenging enemies, we would see different groupcomps.
Current Groupcomps
- 1 Guard => Defensive and offensive boons, reflects
- 2-4 Warriors => Maximum damageoutput, offensive boons
- 1 Mesmer => Timewarp, reflects, other mesmer-things or
- 1 Elementalist => Maximum burstdamage, offensive boons or
- 1 Thief => Damage, stealth
Expected Groupcomps
- 1 Guard => Defensive and offensive boons, reflects
- 1-2 Warriors => Maximum damageoutput, offensive boons
- 1 Mesmer => Timewarp, reflects, other mesmer-things or
- 1 Elementalist => Healing, burstdamage, offensive boons or
- 1 Engineer => Healing, offensive boons or
- 1 Necromancer => CCs, conditions or
- 1 Thief => Damage, stealth
If you have read carefully, you should’ve noticed that I didn’t mentioned the ranger anywhere.
The Issue
The ranger gets outshined in every mentioned aspect. He adds indeed some unique buffs to a group, but those wont make up for his weak damage, condition cleansing and CC capabilities.
The Suggestion
It was stated, due to the “bearbow issue”, that the ranger is a selfish class, which can’t contribute much to the team.
I want to enhance this mindset, to evolve the ranger to a “lone ranger”.
To sum up my thoughts, before I’ve even started.
Damagechart
1 Ranger > 1 Warrior
2 Rangers < 2 Warriors
Basically, my idea was, that the warrior provides a large amount of offensive buffs to his team, rather than his pure damage. So if you want your team set up for fast kills, you should run with 2 warriors.
However, if the enemy is more challenging and you just can spend 1 partyplace to a pure damage character, you rather want to take a ranger due to his selfbuff potential.
- Double all buffs the ranger can apply to himself
- Bring the flat damage on par with warriors
The Effect
The Warrior excells at buffing the whole party. (Banners/Battlestandart, FGS, …)
The buffs the ranger can provide are on no match to the ones of the warrior.
While the ranger can at least buff his teammates a little bit, he benefits even more from his buffs.
I hope this isn’t too over the top.

Wait, you can’t do any of the pve content as a non zerk and you have to spvp and WvW in zerk as well?
Oh no wait, you are talking rubbish.
And given the time gating/grind associated with ascended gear, yes you should be allowed to change it for free when ANet nerf zerk.
As as side note, you also realise that nerfing zerk stats will do fk all to alter the pve dps meta right?
So if you don’t run zerker gear in WvW, you don’t have to change it. And you can do the PvE content without zerker gear. But since even necros running zerker gear it’s a “little bit” over the top.

I would like to see a new (actually old) form of questing. The player goes to a NPC, activates a quest, fulfills all requirements and visits the NPC again to complete the quest.
However this should not be used to replace the current questsystem. The devs should rather use this type of questing to implement map overlapping quests.

Just a slider? The biggest problem with adding just a slider to change how dark it appears on your screen is that you can’t do anything with it. It would always be just a slider, nothing more. You can’t use the slider to trigger new mobs to spawn at night. You can’t use it to trigger new events at night. You can’t use it to see the moon change phases every couple nights. It’s just a little sliding bar on an options page somewhere that adds nothing to the overall content of the game.
Thats still your opinion. Ofcourse it would be great if there would be changes for the gameplay between day and night. But still, I want to control how dark the night is for me.
If there are people who want darker nights but also people who want/need the night stay that bright as it is now, the slider is the way to go.
Our suggestions don’t have to bar each other.
