They already implemented the itemspiral when they added ascended.. Sure it wasn’t exactly like the other MMO’s where an entire set is introduced. They just did it gradually. Starting from rings and backpieces, then amulets, then earrings, now we have to grind for new weapons, and lastly armors. It’s just a different take on the same thing.

People who came from GW1 will understand. I don’t expect the rest of you folks who defend them to get it.

This! And for only WvW Players is this feature really bad. If two Guyd fight against, both are good Players. One use full exotic, one use full ascended gear. The ascended gear guy will win. And Guild Wars 2 said, you will win with skill, not gear. So now I -> must <- grind to get this stuff, to have no disadvantage. And that could be really hard for someone who don’t play PvE an who has no time to play five times a week. And ANet said you will have no disadvantage if you come back to GW2 after a couple of months. But now? There’s a disadvantage.

Yes. you can see it this way. But that is your problem. I come from GW1 and played WoW. That’s why I know exactly what a real treadmill is. kitten it, in the time GW2 adds 1 new gear, real treadmill-games add a thousand of them.

I think all these angry posts sound quite ridiculous. Here are my thoughts!
-First: Anet stated last November that Ascended gear was supposed to be in game at launch, but didn’t make it do to budget and time constraints.
-Second: There is NO higher tier content being added with ascended weapons. Meaning you don’t even need them for any part of the game other than just having them with their MINIMAL stat increase. If you don’t want one, don’t craft one. It will not matter.
-Third: This is not a GearTreadmill nor is it a ItemSpiral. Those occur when new tiers are added every 2-4 months. It has now been over a year and we don’t even have a full tier added ( just rings, back pieces, trinkets and the soon to be weapons).
The thought of rage quitting a game over a new tier weapon with a tiny stat increase just sounds absurd. Do people expect Anet to still just hand out weapon skins 5 years down the road? I love new skins, but skin wars 2 won’t survive. People will not care in 5 years when they have over 600 new weapon skins in their bank. I think they have found a great balance to please both types of players. New tier for those who wont better stats but minimal enough so that no one needs them to appeal to those who don’t want them.
in the end I feel really bad for everyone who has or will rage quit. When all is said and done, I think Anet is doing a great job here. The game is growing, changing and in my opinion getting better with age. I feel bad for everyone who will miss out and such a great MMO down the road.

Thing is, the things that made the game great were what was in it at launch. What’s been added since is mostly click this and zerg that, a gear tier whose only reason for existence is to appease gear grinders and some mini-games.

Ascended gear is one new gear type. It’s out for near a year now and we still don’t have all slots. That is no treadmill at all. If you want to see how a treadmill really feels, go play a game which has one as an endgame feature.

I’m playing one now that is gw2.

I would love to see some kind of hard mode in all dungeons. In this mode you cant use any wp to res so if your team are killed its over, just like in gw1. Also mobs AND rewards are boosted. Maybe give hard mode players a chance on unique skins or something if you clear the dungeon.

Implement this and I am sure many of the players that seek harder rewarding content will be happy, I dont think it would be that hard or time consuming to fix compared to give out completely new dungeons.

Then people will start qqing about their team members being noob in the dungeon or not wearing the best gear and kicking everyone out of their own party.

So the trick is to play one hour a day so you will get cool looking skins like legendary seems legit.So its just a cool looking skin,i can doodle all sorts of cool looking skin of my character on paper.XD

Again the whole ascendant thing- people who researched the game and followed it throughout it’s development where rightly upset. The addition came because people who did none of those things and came from other MMO’s to ride the bandwagon could not understand the idea of horizontal progression and raced to 80 so they could get to their idea of endgame.
That is all it was and it cost Anet a boatload of core players.

Another thing that might shock you: time spent does not equal skill.
Skill equals skill.
I know people who according to you shouldn’t even be playing but they are very very skilled. I also know a bunch of people who play 12 hours a day and don’t know basic combat.

Skill = Skill Thats like saying something picks up a Guitar and can do sweeps and finger tabing when they never have played a guitar in their life.

Time spent makes people better the more you practice the more you play the more you experiment the better you become THAT is a FACT. You make me laugh really.

The reason why so many people are against updates through living world is because the living world hasn’t proven itself to many yet. By now people have connotated living world with quests/achievements and so far it has really been lacking what expansions give and we players look forward to; new skills, new classes, new races and such. So far the living world has progressed a story and that is cool and all but it hasn’t really given players a sense of progression for themselves too.
Once living story starts pumping out those kinds of updates players may start accepting it more.

I don’t think you can claim that GW2 isn’t innovative, as now we’re starting into the “GW2 Clones” phase with many aspects of ESO and EQNext copying directly from GW2’s design philosophies. Many MMOs have already started employing dynamic events and even call them that, and they’re nothing more than what GW2 already has. You can’t really go back on that.

You can’t really claim ESO or EQNext are directly copying the gw2 of yet both games havent even been released.

Guild Wars 2 has done two things. It’s taken all aspects from all different games and genres and brought them together, and it’s improved on some of them.
