Agree completely. Had all this Ascended gear just been shiny skins, with the same stats as any other gear (or arguably, an infusion slot for Agony, and otherwise the same stats), I’d be happy as a clam and playing GW2 (mostly) contentedly.

Shiny skins, infusion slots, utility like easy sigil/stat change. There was plenty of opportunities to make Ascended very desirable without making it better statistically than exotics.

According to Robert he wanted to make a permanent dungeon that withstood time instead of temporary dungeons.I think he must have offended the higher ups for not realizing his dream and following their plan so he got the boot.

He never said he was fired for that. We don’t know why he was fired in fact.

Although I suspect it’s because he wasn’t that good at his work in the end. Most of the content we know he designed wasn’t that great you know.

“Today marks the release of the last bit of content I built for ArenaNet. I had always hoped my last hurrah would be an epic dungeon that would stand the test of time, and provide entertainment for players to the very end… but instead it’s an instance that will only persist for two weeks, and then go away.
That’s not to sound gloomy or anything – just that things don’t always go the way you hope they do. I still had a great time, met some amazingly talented and good people, and got to work alongside friends – not just coworkers, but people I consider friends. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity, and just wish I had done more with it.” This is what he says

I just wish they’d design content that didn’t have anything to do with tier gear. I’d rather have a new dungeon. Or even have them fix one of the existing ones. Or even spend more time making the LS actually good….

They fired their dungeon designer ,don’t expect any new dungeons soon.

what really? firing their dungeon designer for?

Surely they have someone else doing that now?

I’m really starting to get the eerie feeling that this game is going to shrink to very small niche when the next AAA game comes out ><

This is what he posted on facebook
“Having now been able to collect the last of my possessions from Arenanet that had been left on my desk on the day I was laid off, there is nothing more left for me to do with them. It was a bit of a somber moment as I went down the elevator with my box, but life must go on, and so must I. It was great while it lasted, and I’ve learned some very valuable lessons from the entire experience.

As for getting a new job… why does it take 3+ weeks to hear back from companies about applications? I’ve only got a couple weeks left of free time before I start chewing on my own money, so I’m hoping to hear back soon."

I’m a casual player who plays a lot of hours, but I never grind. I just do what I think is fun, when I think it’s fun. Somehow, I get achievements, gold and karma…without grinding. I don’t know how. I just play the game.

I always found this post rather suspect.

I do fine farming on my necro.

Ah, there we go. You do actually grind for materials.
Not that it wasn’t obvious before, but thank you for the open admission.

Sorry but you’re wrong. Just because I used a word, doesn’t mean I actually farm. What I do mean by this is that when I’m running an event with lots of people, I get lots of drops.

Now you can say that’s farming if you want…such as running the zone wide events that pop up, but I’m not actually running those events TO farm. I’m running those events because I find them fun.

Some people understand this sort of thing and some don’t.

My comment was that someone said you have to be on X character to farm. I get plenty of drops and kill plenty of stuff on my necro.

Why do I play my necro. Because it’s fun. Why do I do zone events, because I like them. They remind me of the only thing I liked about Rift.

It’s farming, without actually attempting to accumulate materials. I just do what I want, when I want.

If you are not attempting to accumulate materials it is not farming.

interesting (paraphrased)…

just because I said I do something doesn’t mean that I actually do it.

OK…

Farming is a specific thing you do. Do you think I kill stuff and don’t pick up the stuff that drops?

Someone who farms goes to a zone to get something. Like killing sparks to get the things sparks drop. That’s farming. Doing what you want, and accumulating stuff as a side-affect to what you’re doing isn’t farming. It’s doing what you want.

Let’s say I got to Hirathi Hinterlands, because I enjoy the event chains there. While I’m doing the event chains, I’m accumulating karma. I already have 3 million karma. I don’t need the karma. I don’t particularly care about the karma.

So I’m not there to farm karma. I’m there to enjoy the quest chains. The karma comes as a side benefit to what I’m doing.

I don’t know anyone who would call that farming.

Vayne here plays the game. A lot. So he has 2 legendaries and ascended is a joke in comparison.

Some others (e.g. me) hate repetition of any kind. So we have very little gold/mat/currencies. So ascended looks like a huge grind.

Just take a little time and step into each other’s shoes and there’s not much to argue really.

Your hate of repetition, has nothing to do with the definition of the word farming. I don’t see how any game can avoid repetition. But I don’t particularly like repetition either. That’s why I always change things up.

I have 19 different characters. I’m not always doing the same stuff. If I’m not interested in PvE, I’ll jump into SPvP or WvW for a bit. If I’ve been running dungeons, I’ll jump into some dynamic events. It helps that I play all the content in the game, including mini-games.

But when I say I don’t farm, it means I’m not attempting to go out to accumulate stuff. Most of the time I’m just hanging out with the guild, doing what everyone else is doing.

“I’m just hanging out with the guild, doing what everyone else is doing.” which is farming…

Increased MF will not help with precursor drops.

Trust me, with a very high MF before the patch, exotics and rares were not raining from the sky. Just an increase in blue/greens and higher level crafting materials (T5 instead of T4 for example).

Besides, most of the player base whined about MF and about how useless it was. That is why they removed it in the first place. Not sure how rewarding them with an extra free 20% MF made sense, but who really cares.

Don’t over estimate the value of MF.

MF will not help with precursor drops, yes, but MF absolutely did work in the long-run and with a large enouh sample size.

Check sig for proof.

Also, MF alone doesn’t help you get exotics. High MF + lots of mobs and tagging does in the long run.

So in other words, a slot machine with a prettier interface? Still sad to me that so many people are content with this kind of game design in mmorpgs.

I’m content cause I see the big picture. You are so heavily focused on “RNG is bad” that you don’t even realize that RNG is an alternative for those that want it.

Want that exotic? Go buy it on the TP. That’s a guaranteed way to get it.

There are also exotics that can be acquired for a guaranteed amount of karma, gold, badges and dungeon tokens.

Although, yes, ideally it would be nice if every skin in the game can be acquired through different means.

Nobody wants RNG

I don’t mind RNG. At least it’s an alternative available.

RNG is for those who are willing to gamble that they will have to spend less than the guaranteed amount.

There is a reason why gambling is a billion dollar industry.

RNG for cheap dyes nty…

Yes, because obviously when people asked for more content, the solution was to add gear grind.

And most pointless gear grind in history of MMOs mind you. You get bigger stats for sake…of getting bigger stats rofl

Why don’t they add 1 stats to every new amour tier they release and theyll go like OMG ITS AN AMOR WITH +1 STATS its an added advantage!!!WE MUZ GRIND FOR IT

For the first time since I purchased this game (In April before headstart), I am feeling as though the game has gone in a direction I can’t follow. I have been disappointed by it in the past but this time is different.
You can’t blame it all on ascended either. For a game that was touted as horizontal progression based, glorified dress-up & customization, we had a tiny lot to choose from to do so.
People want to look unique. There were so many ideas in suggestions for this very thing. Monetization could have come from gem-store items that people ‘wanted’ to buy. Anet had some winners: convenience items, makeover kits, special skin tickets, quaggan/charr backpacks.
Why not expand this to special pets/seasonal pets for Rangers, weapon dye kits, kits to make items account bound if not completely unbound, functional minis (with small bonus like +5% karma) <—fix mini functionality first like equipping it and it stays out until unequipped or changed. The ideas I’ve read in suggestions are too numerous to mention and all would bring plenty of money to the company without this new tier of gear. There were a tonne of good ideas for gold sinks that would help stabilize the economy as well.
It just comes down to ease of implementation I guess. It’s more cost effective and easier to pull this out of their hat than to bring forth some novel and cash generating ideas.

It’s a great game that I’ll probably come back to from time to time but it has grown into something I’m not willing to put the time into anymore.

Yep , lets wait for the next big free and shiny MMO at the meantime.

Yea, one of the selling points and attractions to GW2 was that it was NOT a grindfest. But they seem to be going back on that, so what’s the point in playing GW2 over others MMOs?

And it still isn’t, no grinding required to play all the content of this game, unlike other MMOs.

There’regrinding elements all over the game……

What has this game turned into?

The game has turned into something that is not meant for you.

Have you played the original Guild Wars? I did. Once in a while, a new player would appear in one of the GW1 forums saying, “Why is the level cap so low? Why can’t we keep grinding for better gear? Why aren’t there mounts?”, and we would reply telling the player that Guild Wars was not the kind of game he was asking for.

Now, the table has turned. ArenaNet realized that, whatever definition of “success” they have, it’s easier to be successful through the farmers than through other players, like you and me.

So they have changed Guild Wars 2. You are not its target audience anymore. Neither am I. GW2’s target audience are the farmers, grinders, addicts and exploiters who want every new content to be almost intolerable, so they can be one of the few who can endure going through it, in order to get some kind of reward and then try to show off; those players call this “dedication and effort”.

Other players are not really wanted; the kind of content they want is far more expensive and harder to make than easy mindless grind.

That is why i basically lol at people who waste their time on legendary and feel like they should be respected. So what? You got a legendary who cares? Some bought it off from tp and demand to be respected which is even worse. He gives a crap about gears and tiers.I wan fun gaming elements implemented.I want to have great experiences and they fail to deliver….

As I eagerly started to watch the stream I couldnt help but wonder what newly materials were being introduced. With the newly added 500 crafting you could only wonder if maybe, just maybe AT LAST precursor could be crafted!

To my bitter surprise no mentions of it during the ascended crafting walkthrough, but I feared not! I still hoped that maybe on the next part; legendaries, the wonderful news would be given! A big annoucement on PAX, what else but the pinnacle of beautifully crafted weapons which we call Legendaries, nothing else but craftable precursors could be the major highlight!

Oddly enough, no mention of it during the legendaries. By now my hopes were starting to feel betrayed, how could something so important pass someone’s mind? Then it hit me; best for last!!

So i kept watching, and watching, and watching and watching.

“Do you have any questions?”

With a knot in my throat and a tear nearing my eyes, I faintly type on the chat;

“….but, what about craftable precursors?”

And there she stood, like a loving and caring mother whose 5 years old had just asked “Mom, whats the meaning of life?” There, perplexed as if it was a new topic, as an adult who still hasnt found their own meaning she answered;

“Earlier this year we mentioned craftable precursors, I dont know much bout it but it is not coming anytime soon”

And thus my hopes to craft the only thing that kept me playing this game vanished, having spent over 12 months and several hours/gold into getting through the vile and corrupted Zommoros. There he stood, watching me with sadistic pleasure as I convert yellows into yellow and orange into what seemed greens.

Good job ArenaNet team, a small disappointment to say the least.

Thanks for nothing.

I agree with everything you’ve said. and I’m a farmer! That’s all I do is go around in any game, gather, kill things for their stuff, and build! That’s all I like to do in game and even I know that this is too much of a grind. It’s sad that.

I’d love for more people to get involved in getting the word out sadly however most posts like yours get deleted for the false claim of not being constructive. (they don’t become constructive by being deleted before anyone can post to them)

The other thing to point out that 75% of the original playerbase is gone, most of which came on here in November and begged Anet not to go down this road with this game when they decided that Ascended is what people wanted or that Exotic wasn’t enough or that dungeons (fractals) should be where they place their focus for new exciting content or any kind of meaningful loot.

I don’t think there’s enough people left honestly to get their attention anymore because most people from headstart are gone, those that are left are watching intently to see where this goes, and we are far and few between because there are some here who just can’t leave well enough alone and stop advocating for the wrongs that are being done here.

Yep they just remove what they don’t like and think posts that are so called rude to them.

@Galen, you’re trying to bail water out of a sinking ship hun. While you have sound logical points, they aren’t going to listen to you. What we’re experiencing here is (what I like to call) spoiled brat syndrome, and there isn’t a kitten thing anyone can do to fix it, except for the person them self making the mature decision to not be one.

Some people wanted another gear tier, now we have it. BUT it wasn’t given to them in raids, or dungeons, so they aren’t happy. They don’t want to craft it, and open world loot drops (which are extremely rare, but make sense) aren’t satisfactory.

Some people wanted something to make crafting more worthwhile, and potentially more lucrative. However, the new mats are time gated, leveling the playing field, making it so the market cant be flooded, and thus making it easier to create and keep a stable, high price for them. BUT this isn’t good enough because everyone can’t have it all / do it all right now.

Some people don’t like to gather materials, but some of the materials are account bound and simply can’t be purchased. They come from various drops throughout the world, requiring people to play (specific parts of) the game. They feel this is a ‘grind,’ which, in some cases I could understand if you only got 1-3 per drop. However, considering most drops are 10+, I don’t foresee it being ‘grindy,’ although for more time limited players, it will simply take longer to get everything they need. Again, people aren’t happy with this because they can’t just let someone else do the work for them, or they can’t have it all right now.

The actual ascended drops and crafted items are account bound, which pretty much everyone is unhappy with. They want to be able to sell them, after all if they have the gold or the time to make/get them…why shouldn’t they be able to cash in? (sarcasm there)

We, the players, ask for things. Shout gimme gimme gimme, like starving baby birds; however when Anet tries to comply in any fashion, its simply not good enough. I’ve said it many times, but I’ll say it again. They are kittened if they do, kittened if they don’t. They would be further ahead to just make their plans, and go with it. Those that like what they get will stay, and the rest will go. Its harsh, but that’s simply life.

The joke is on those who will actually try to get those ascended. Not me in any case. I’m done with GW2, as many people, but I did try to give it an honest chance after seeing all my headstart friends leave.

A growing story that I don’t think is going away despite the people who still insist that 460k is a proper success for an mmo.

Logged into my server every place I went had a tiny handful of people, even the main towns were dead and this was during peak hours. Can’t imagine where these 460k are located.

All I logged in for was to test out the newest changes to my class and to the loot system. The loot system looks like it’s received a small polish which is a good start but it simply won’t be enough I don’t think to help people reach their goals with the way they’ve done the enormous number of items needed to make the ascended weapons or gear.

They have to add these items to nodes as well so that people can gather a small portion of them to help offset the months that it’s literally going to take some people to reach these levels, they’ve forgotten 250 was too much and has added the larger 500.

some servers don’t really have the population of others, moot point.
500 of a pretty much easily acquired material. try comparing those to 250 charged lodestones.

There’s one way to find a lot of people.“ZERG FARMS”.

I like Grind Wars 2 the best. Its most fitting

Even the grindosaurs are complaining about time gating and not about collection of the mats.

Make a new character and play from 1 to 80. Can you make ascended gear when you turn 80? No.

How far are you from full exotics? Not far.

How far are you from full ascended? Months. Not even counting the armors to come.

Now tell me this game isn’t about grinding for gear.

Months? Have you actually look up how to get stuff or did you just read a bunch of wrong posts in this thread? I am a casual player (10 hours a week max) and I can manage it in a month.
The only grind there is in GW 2 is legendary. But hey, there has to be some grinding.

Nah, just moments ago someone with 2 legendaries claimed he didnt grind AT ALL and hates gear grinds

I on the other hand don’t mind changes. Hell if somebody play more than me, he deserves to have better stats than me. It’s not USSR where everybody is equal. If it’s in form of ascended gear I’m fine with that. Those things will be account bind so no pay to win also (some of ingredients will be buy-able but not all of the).

So legendaries are P2W.

Yes

Definitely yes,YES,YESA!!!!

Will anyone do dungeons or world bosses if they don’t drop any valuable loot at all.

Just take away all the rewarding loot from all the major bosses and world dragon and dungeon.I bet no one will give a single kitten about doing them once the loot is gone.“Find it exhilarating where failure is nearly assured” I lol.

Wow speaks volume about the player base.To think that someone would need to post on the forum to look for a dungeon party.Good job ANET.Good job.

About three hours ago, you asked the question “Well if you don’t like complain threads why read them? Since they are not for your eyes….”

I would now like to ask you: why did you read this thread? It’s not a complaint thread and thus clearly not for your eyes.

Huhh???I said it was not for somebodies eyes not my own?I think you have reading problems. If that guy doesn’t like complaint threads he can just ignore it lol.

I like the game too…and I’ve been playing since the first beta. It’s taken some unexpected twists in how they present the game, which some people haven’t liked, but it suits me perfectly.

My biggest advice to you is don’t let the forums get you down. The game is way fun for me…the forums…not so much. lol

No offense, but you spend more time on the forums than you do actually playing the game… so what does that tell you? You enjoy playing the forums more than playing GW2. You consistently complain about how bad the forums are, yet come here to tell people how “good” the game is….. okay.

Anyway, once you get bored, then you will stay bored until you finally decide to quit. I enjoyed the leveling process and I also enjoyed about two weeks after I hit level 80, then things went downhill from there. Utterly boring content, no bug fixes, unbalanced classes, and a ton of other glitches and things of the sort just ruined the game for me, and I’m really patient with content that needs to be fixed.

As you can see he enjoys attacking people’s post that are negative about gw2.I’m now his new target. That is where he gets the fun from.

Where did you pull the number 80 from? I watched the live stream footage from yesterday and I’m pretty sure they said they only had 60 people.

And no one goes to the tequatl fight right now because it’s not really worth the effort to get there. After the revamp that might change? Who knows.

Complaining for the sake of complaining is what this thread comes down to.

Well if you don’t like complain threads why read them?Since they are not for your eyes….

The tone should be darker.
