how is my cpu bottlenecking my video card though? the video card is the lowest end thing i have? isnt a i5 3570 like the best cpu out atm for gaming?

I wouldn’t say the 560ti overclocked is entry level, looking at benchmarks and the like, ide say its mid level especially how much i got it oc’ed.

if a 1200 dollar computer (built myself, got parts online for good prices( isnt high end, then what is :O

For the processor yes it’s very good but for this game you need pure speed and your’s can not be overclocked, vidoe card if you change from mac settings to low settings and get min FPS increase then you the CPU is stoping it, and it is 3rd from the bottom out of 7 gaming cards in the 5xx line. The 560ti is pleanty to run this game at near max settings but a stock CPU is not.
High end and my FPS drop to 30 in WVW during big zergs.

Well that’s not high end specs most people getting decent FPS in demanding areas are overclocking the CPU to around 4.5 or so and the 560ti is perty much a entry level gaming card remeber they were 560ti, 560ti with 448 cuda cores, 570, 580, and 590 the only 2 gaming cards below you was the GTX560 and 550ti. If you go from Maxed settings to low and only increase 5FPS then your CPU is bottlenecking your video card in this game. Never compair your FPS in this game to anouther game.

So I want to invest in a better cpu to increase my fps. This is not something I know a whole lot about, so I need advice. My motherboard is an ACPI x86-based pc. My current processor is a amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+, which is a socket 2. I run vista 32 bit. What options do I have?

Post your exact PC or a link to it. Include the motherboard model #, powersupply name and model #, what video card you have, and what resolution your monitor runes at 900p 1050p or whatever it is.

indeed .full upgrade.

FYI: a gaming rig generaly needs upgrading every 2 to 4 years depending on how much you spend on it when you upgrade. If you save up and spend alot it can last atleast 4 years with little to no upgrades before a complete overhaul is again needed.

My advice for a cost effective setup would be.

Intel 2550k + Motherboard + Evo 212 cooler (OC to 4.5ghz)
GTX 560ti or ATI equivalent
8 or 16 gb 1600mhz RAM
600W PSU minimum, recommend 750w

If that doesnt fit inside your case or your case has bad cooling then any ~£60 gaming case will do. If you HDD’s and Optical drivers are still IDE, then you will need some Sata drives. They dont cost much. ~£20 for optical and ~£75 for 500gb-1TB HDD.

If you from the US then i leave the prices to you to find but for a gaming rig it shouldnt cost to much.

That does no look cost effective to me. Power hungry video card that I would never recomend with todays cards that are out, overkill on the PSU, ATI is out of business it’s AMD now, their still no reason to get 16GB of ram 8 is overkill, I need to test the CPU overclock from my stock speed to what I run it at 4.4 because when I bump it to 5.0 their no differance in performance.

Never spend $ to upgrade small. Go ahead and save more money and do a good upgrade or you will spend the same amount the next 3 of 4 times to get one good upgrade and end up spending alot of money.

OK just a simple NO. That video card is made for watching movies and is in no way built to game well maby play WOW on mid settings. If it’s mainly for this game I would buy a Intel processor over AMD but the AMD is a cheaper build.
What are you using for a monitor need to know the rezolution of it like 900p, 1080p ETC.

Low FPS on nVidia Video Card

in Account & Technical Support

zerk.9701

Hello, Guild Wars 2 Community:
First off, allow me to thank NC Soft and ANet for delivering such an amazing RPG. It combines the fine experiences I’ve had in Dragon Age and World of Warcraft.

Now, enough with pleasantries and cut to the chase: Guild Wars 2 has A LOT of bugs. And constant crashes. I’m showing you my hardware below:

Operating System:
Windows 2.6.1.7601 (Service Pack 1)
CPU Type:
Intel® Core™ i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz
CPU Speed:
2.82 GHz
System Memory:
3.24 GB
Video Card Model:
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
Video Card Memory:
2.34 GB
Video Card Driver:
nvd3dum.dll

With the equipments above, I’m having the following 3 issues:
1. Low FPS at most times

2. Constant client crashes.
Averagely twice an hour. I’ve sent reports via the game client several times.

3. Yellow-blue squares tearing up the screen
This happens occasionally but regularly. I turned Vertical-Sync on all the time, which evidently doesn’t help with the issue at all.

Now, before you scream, “that’s not i7!” or “lol it’s 2 years old”. I’d like to point out that I can run both World of Warcraft and StarCraft II on High graphic settings (note, not Ultra), and normally stick to 60 FPS (with occasional drop to 40~50 during large-scale battles).

I’m running GW2 on fairly Low graphic settings and the FPS I can achieve is…..20~40. Add to that constant crashes which occurs (averagely) 2 times an hour.

What went wrong? What is biting at my hardware that it doesn’t seem to do what it is supposed to?

Just to get this out of the way first you can not compair a game like WOW to this game it actually made me pppeeee some.
Now for the low FPS this is probably your CPU it seems clock speed is everything and no you do not need a i7. Simple test turn your settings to a custome of mid with the shadows and stuff set to low, check your FPS, now in the same place in the game set your settings to best performance and cut all the eye candy off, again check the FPS.
If you show little to no improvements then your CPU is the problem (overclock if you can) if you have a big FPS increase then the GPU is the problem.
For the crashes you did not include the crash log or all your system specs so no help their.
Yellow blue squares could be a few things but it really looks bad for your video card. (the newest driver is not always the best) I was using a AMD driver from 11/2011 till I added anouther card in xfire.

Hi support,

i think there are some dark forces running around my computer. Ive tried to look for thread on issue on forum, but the more i read the longer from my goals i get. Its like some evil labyrintg that tricks you into a net. You stand there for a while start over again on different routes, end up at the same place. etc.

Thats the story of my life, hope you fix. Its getting pretty bad messed up now.

And if you can help on my clockradio too, it would be great. the ethernet is trolling me around. i was trying find some nice music sleep to, but it really just keeps me awake.

And not to speak of the television. I think Petter Northug has gone mad and swedish? Who the kitten says RIP on a victory interview? Shame on NRK. And the crosssking team must take a closer look at their morale. training in a bath tub? and i have also been fooled around to dress in white like completely white. it was a good consert though but i thought it would be some sort of transcending at the end. But a Will Oldham consert in the future would be great. like a whole set of what i played.

Hope you have the power for that.

let me start counting for lowest c that would handle this game on around 45-60 fps in pve and spvp.

So
i3-3220 – 120$
CPU cooling – from 35-100++$
mobo – 50$
memory – ~70$
graphic card ~200$
powersupply ~150$
case ~25-50$
operating system ~100$
speakers + keyboard + mouse ~150-200$
Monitor ~150$

thats around 900-1000$. it’s not 100% sure value. i’ve made this according to prices in Poland for minimum rig.

and thats stuff that allows u to play at 1680×960 or so with graphic med/high ( not ultra ) with avg 45 FPs in pve & spvp ( not counting WvW and mass eveents where fps drop to 15 on that rig ).

So if u want to get “new” rig with almost all stuff new i’d advise you to get at least 1300-1500$ to get good stuff that will last at least for 2-4 years including:

Extreme series mobo
I5 processor ( 2500k/3570k )
an 7870 Ati Radeon / gtx 570/gtx 660 ti at least
good and fast ram.
Very good power supply for Overclock.
Good case to keep you pc cool and good CPU cooling.

and so on.

So if u want to spend silly ~600$ amount for all that stuff don’t bother. youll be just disappointed.

Same stuff goes for an laptop if u’d ask in close future.
a 600$ laptop won’t make this game run good. with mine worth around 960$ im getting 30-40 fps on low/mid sett in pve. Spvp or wvw are barely playable.

Why would add CPU cooling to a i3 the stock cooling would do fine.

Higher FPS without Crossfire?

zerk.9701

hi,

I would like to know if it is the reason why my sli configuration(2xgtx560ti) doesn’t work better than my gtx580. my motherboard is an asus maximus 4 extreme Z but they say that in sli or crossfire dual it is x8 x8 or in tri sli configuration it is in x8,x16,x16.
Can someone please confirm that? my processor is an i5 3570 oc’ed to 4,3 ghz. Have i missed something by not placing the 2 gtx560 ti in the good slots? because there are 4 pci express x16 slots.

Ps: sorry for the poor english, mothertongue is french

I’ll go ahead and answer this your are only running at x8 in SLI your running x16 with the single 580 so look at this and keep in mind the 560ti’s are overclocked. Also all games will very how well SLI will scale.
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/02/21/msi_n560gtx_ti_twin_frozr_ii_oc_sli_review/8
And again not really sure about the 8×8 or 16×16 the item descreption is bad.
Expansion Slots

4 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8 or x8, x16, x16)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x4
1 x PCIe 2.0 x1
I could be wrong about the 8×8 or 16 x16 but it still varies depending how the gme scales with the SLI.

Oh well, I’ll resolve that when it’s time to upgrade the mobo & CPU. Until then, I guess I’ll live with it.

Thanks for all the help.

I apologize if this has been discussed. I searched through the forums and didn’t find any posts that seemed to address this.

System specs:

  • Core i7 2600k (conservatively OC’ed and liquid cooled)
  • ASRock P67 Pro3 SE mobo
  • 32 GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 RAM
  • Intel 330 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (I have hard drives for data storage, but the game runs on the SSD)
  • Dual HIS Radeon HD 6850 1 GB Graphics Cards

I made a rather surprising (to me anyway) observation yesterday and wondered if anyone else has seen the same thing.

I needed to use my second monitor to look up some skill/trait info. So I switched from full screen to windowed full screen so I could have the game up as well. Then I noticed something odd. When I’m in windowed full screen and Crossfire is not engaged, I am getting higher FPS (roughly 10 FPS higher) in the game than I do when I’m putting the load on both GPUs. Logically, that didn’t make sense to me so I switched back and forth a few times to see what was different. What I noticed is when I’m in windowed full screen and only loading one GPU, my CPU load increased by a very small amount, only a couple percentage points.

I’m actually a little disappointed in this finding. What’s the point of having dual video cards if the performance is actually lower? The second GPU is loaded when I’m running full screen, although not as much as the primary GPU. I’m not pointing fingers at the game or at my system. I’m just puzzled as to why this is and if anyone else has seen similar performance? I haven’t yet tried this experiment with any other game, but I may to see if I get similar results. Any thoughts on how to put more load on the secondary GPU and get the frame rate increase one might expect from dual GPUs in Crossfire mode?

GW2 Crashing my computer

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: zerk.9701

zerk.9701

I am having the same problem with GW2 crashing my computer. I have a self built computer running Windows 7 Pro x64. It runs fine for a while but after a couple hours it starts freezing and eventually I get a blue screen.
I have an ATI HD 3300 onboard GPU on an ASUS M4A8T-E MoBo with an AMD Phenom II 965 Quad Core Black Edition processor and 4Gb RAM. The GPU reserves a Gig of that RAM for shared memory.
But in my case the problem isn’t the graphics altho the intense graphics in this game does put a considerable amount of strain on your computer and processor, GPU, etc. But it shouldn’t cause shutdowns, freeze ups, blue screens, etc.
If a GPU is overclocked as mine is (even tho it’s onboard) it should help to not make the computer freeze up or blue screen.
I have noticed that most these freezes and such are related to a driver or some “code” trying to access or attempting to use “interrupts” (as Microsoft calls them) threads and as a precautionary Windows shuts everything down to prevent corruption.
It states in my dumps that it’s a bad read/write error causing it and other times it states its the attempt to interrupt. I did some research and there is a Java exploit called cve-2012-1723.csz (it has other names) that was on my computer causing all kinds of issues. Anything that requires a call on anything that is Java related as coding goes calls to this Malware exploit because it sets itself in the core of the Java code. Now this game shouldn’t be using Java as it’s not written in Java, but that doesn’t mean that when you access anything that requires internet access, i.e. trading post, or whatever, Windows uses like a shell of whatever default internet browser you use to access any web attempt from any running program and Java is enabled in your browser by default and when the internet is accessed, your browser is called, which in turn calls Java which calls that Malware exploit.
I try to keep up on things computer and web related but this exploit was kept hush hush by Oracle (writers of Java) and Microsoft.
The good news is that its easy to get rid of, just disable all Java usage in all your browsers especially Internet Explorer. Goes to the Oracle website and download the latest version of Java but do not install online. Get the offline installation for windows and save it to wherever you save your downloaded items. Uninstall all Java installations. Every one because that exploit will be attached to every one. But first use your Anti Virus scanner to do a complete scan. Make sure your AV is fully updated. It should find and quarantine the exploits if your AV is worth anything. Then uninstall all Java. After uninstalling all Java run some kind of temporary file cleaner to rid you computer of any remaining temp files or cookies you may have related to this exploit or Java. Restart your computer. Reinstall Java using the install you downloaded and your Java should be fine. After doing this my computer has been running a lot smoother, more stable and faster.
By the way, this exploit can be downloaded without you knowing by clicking on a picture in Facebook, Myspace, my daughter got it from Photobucket. It targets social networking and email spams so beware what you click on.
I hope this works for. It did for me for now.

Lowest to highest:
3740QM
3820QM

3920XM

I hope that can be bought with a $600 budget lol @768p he is in the playable range or I guess he can spend a SL more of his moms $ eich! A link to the LT in that price range would help not just posting specs.

also OC’ed my memory clock to 1100/2200/4400Mhz (GPU-Z would show 1100MHz and MSI Afterburner would show 2200MHz)
thats a summed up performanca boost of about 15% in-game
of course, a customized fanspeed is neccessary
also, make sure you GPU gets enough power, or you might see random game or driver crashes or shutdowns

and don’t set rendersmapling in-game to “supersample”
a GTX580 just can’t handle it and the quality difference is absolutely minimal – not worth it, to make it work 4 times harder

i also got 10-15FPS more by messing around at the nvidia-cp:
make sure "Antialiasing-Transparency is set to “off”
“Power management mode” to “prefer max performance”
“multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration” to “single display performance mode”
“texture filtering – quality” to “performance”
and “ambient occlusion” to “off”

if you now disable/lower reflections in-game and set rendersampling to “native”, you won’t need any GPU overclocking anymore

a GTX580 isn’t meant to be overclocked in the first place…

im using Asus overclocking utility, which stands true as it shows up core speed and memory in GPU-Z.

core speed 930, 1.1mV, 4400 Memory.

Ofcourse custom set fanspeed.

Sampling to Native. FXAA enabled, it has no noticable FPS hit, and its also quite ugly to be honest – but fast.

As i said i see no difference at all. The thing is while in the zerg fights in WvW i drop to 15fps, i get alot more when i lower all details to minimum (perfomance) in GW2 options.

Can i presume that GPU bottlenecks then?

If you get more FPS in the demanding area with lower settings then yes your GPU is the problem or driver. I have a lower GPU and have no problems at all around 35FPS is the big zergs and still use a driver form 11/12/11 AMD

GW2 Crashing my computer

My computer crashes nearly everytime I play GW2, about 30 minutes into the game. I turned on minidumps for Windows recently, so I have 2 logs now which got a lot of info in them.

The logs are attached.

I would be really grateful if someone could analyze those and tell me what the problem is, so I can play GW2 without having to reboot my computer all the time!

I have no OC on my graphic card (GTX 660 Ti) other than the one that came with it. It also didn’t go higher than 77C the first time (didn’t log the second time).

I have the exact same graphics card as you do (EVGA overclocked) and am experiencing similar problems. Underclocking did NOT help me, but I hope it does for you.

So your getting the same error (ntkrnlmp.exe) if not their no need to post here.
The trying to uderclock was the first step of many.

had the exact same issue and increasing the voltage helped me
i also telled him to inform himself before doing anything regarding overclocking

but i have to admit, i should’ve been more clear about the risks, sorry about that…OC’ing stuff got so normal these days, that i forgot that it actually come with high risks

the best thing he can possibly do to fix his problem in my opinion and experience: do not overclock the GPU at all

This is in his post

(so you were getting the same error ntkrnlmp.exe )

Underclock the video card and try again

or give your GPU more voltage

you should orient yourself according to other users’ OC settings (note: don’t instantly use the first settings you come across, you should check different posts on the nvidia OC-forum)
always stresstest your GPU after overclocking

though, i can’t see the point of overclocking a 660-TI
it’s already @ 900Mhz ~ 1GHz core clock, depending on the subvendor

You missed the point this is trouble shooting, when something works then we correct the problem. I’m not going to tell somebody to bump the volts up unless I know it’s what needs to be done.

ntkrnlmp.exe
Underclock the video card and try again, Use a driver sweeper for the GPU driver reinstall the latest driver and try again (this could be caused by any driver but the GPU is most common), Remove 1/2 of your memory and try again, remove the other 1/2 of the memory and install the 1/2 you removed and try again.
I would bet this is memory related double check your memory settings in BIOS to make sure its running at the right timmings and speed. Only other thing is virus or registry errors.
Last thing I would do is a complet reformat/fresh install of windows. (ya I know thats a pain)

This seems weird how I downloaded that same patch but have no problems. Why would people update from windows 7 to 8 they even fired the guy over it at MS.

How well would this run Gw2

zerk.9701

+30FPS PVE, +20PVP/dungeons, +10WvW Low/med settings

this
however, i’d say WvWvW should run a little bit better at low/med

^^^^^ It will run better than people think with the 768 monitor rez it has a good CPU so on best performance it should be playable.

GTX 680 vs Radeon 7970

zerk.9701

The 7970 drivers seem to have the edge as of now and it’s about $50 cheaper but both are overkill unless your running some insane monitor rez or 120 refresh rate. For the i5 vs i7 clock them both at the same speed and you will see very little if any differance.

I’ll say the same thing I posted 3 or 4 weeks ago on this same post. Underpowered PSU. The 4870 takes 50 more watts. Although your PSU powered it fine when it was new what 4 years or so ago it’s now not delivering the power.

What PC component should I upgrade?

Upgrading to a 560ti is not a good idea. Your going to buy a new card for about a 10% performance increase.

Artifacts and flickering graphics

in Account & Technical Support

zerk.9701

So ever since I bought the game yesterday, I’ve been encountering problems with the graphics where things will flicker in and out of existence, some of which shouldn’t be there. My framerate is fine, it is just this problem with the graphics, even when I play on the lowest settings.

I have an intel pro 3000 graphics card, which exceeds the minimum requirements.

First that’s not a graphics card, it is the minimum required, and it’s not made for gaming. Check and see if their a driver update other than that you have what you have.

Critique my build pls!

Ill have to look into prime95 more but thanks for that tip Zerk.

This pc hauls so much better than my old system. even without my graphics card i can play in pvp and wvwvw with better graphics than before and stay at a constant 30 fps at almost all times.

Didn’t have much issues setting everything up. It’s crazy how having a computer that can run this game makes it completely different than how it seemed to me before. I F’n love this game now.

When you build a new PC always stress test the parts. Also I hope you did not put the disc in for the motherboard and click install all if you did you just got alot of extra trash on your PC.
