HD7770 is the cheapets one for sure. Great bang for the buck highly overclockable card.
The GHz edition of this card is way faster than a NVIDIA 650ti and 30$ cheap at least only 100$ great value for the money

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202011&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

This will be a very good matchup for ur current CPU, quiet low power consuption and blazing fast. It will max GW2 with no problems at all, ur CPU won’t even tax this card to the limits, so buying a more expensive and powerfull card would be a waste.

Are you sure this is right PCI-E 3.0×16@16 1.1
If so the 1.1 only has 1/2 the bandwith as the 2.0 that any motherboard that is not really old should have. Did you buy the PC used if so what motherboard and i5 model do you have.

Download GPU-Z and make sure the video card is running @ X16 speed.
It will be where it says Bus Interface it should look something like this.
PCI-E 2.0 × 16 @ 16 2.0 and not like this PCI-E 2.0 X 16 @ 4 2.0 If it says anything but @16 click the ? for the short test and see if it goes up.

Well there is no way i change my ram. I payed for the corsair and i will use it :p
I have tried to find an air cooler tall enough, but couldn’t find any. The Noctua NH-U12P is already pretty high, but still under the 2". Maybe it will fit, but i don’t like the have the fan touching the ram if there is just enough space :p So yeah I’ve been looking for a water cooler. For now the basic fan still keeps the cpu under the 40°c so i’m pretty happy. But summer is coming… and the room can get hot very fast

Using the stock cooler so I would say you are not overclocking. This would be a big upgrade over the stock cooler. (139mm tall)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064
If the fan hits the memory just move it to the other side pulling air through instead of pushing air in. You could do the same thing with the hyper 212 but make sure it will fit in the PC case you have (190mm tall)

Indeed the CM Evo 212 is not the best by any means but for shear price : performance ..its the best there is ..cant complain about its performance for $30-$35.

Next step after one of those is bassicaly top of the line Air cooling like the Noctua NH-D14, costs alittle over twice as much ~ $80.

After that ur into High end water cooling costing around $110..

After thats its custom water loops. cost ..many many $‘s/£’s :P

Buying anything inbetween those is imo a waste, those are pritty much the best performance points to aim for in terms of cooling.

TIM wise ..well i personaly used the stuff (NT-H1) that came with the NH-D14 as it was reviewed and for an inclusive compound it did really well. Still if u want those few extra degress u cant really beat the liquid metal componds.

I never really looked for this because I always use the Artic silver 5 but look on page 5 at the chart. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermal-Compound-Roundup-January-2012/1468
And just for fun the Hoctua NT-H1 came in just below Mayonnaie but would probably last longer:)

Opinion on Radeon or Nvidia?

Nvidia runs GW2 perfect allready AMD had framerate latecy issues NVIDIA does not have this kind of problems on any title atm. In general i like NVIDIA a lot even when i have 4 years in a row buying AMD cards, i only have a 550ti as physx dedicated card. NVIDIA is just much much better in drivers AMD cards are fast i love how they perform but drivers are just very low quality stuff compared to NVIDIA, honestly AMD beta drivers are terrible to say less, try record some gameplay on GW2 using the beta 13.2 drivers and see what happens LOL.
NVIDIA drivers are on a different lvl of performance and stability compared to AMD, that is logical since they cards are slower and they sell much more than AMD, they have more money to dedicate to general customer support.
Radeon cards can give u headche sometimes due drivers but once drivers are stable they just perform so good u learn to love them.

This gave me a good LOL I have a 6970 using driver 13.1 and have never had a problem with any game.
EDIT I just updated to 13.1 from 11.12 wich also gave me no problems in games.

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB 1600 Mhz
GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ 970
EVGA nVidia GeForce 460 1GB
AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz

I can run BF3, Planteside 2, Skyrim, etc… all on max with 70+ FPS. In guild wars 2 I barley get 35 fps.

All drivers are updated.

Why even post the other games you can max it’s like apples to oranges.
The FX 4170 will strugle in this game in big events and WVW turn off shadows, reflections, and sampling to native and that’s the best you can run the game.

GW2 is CPU bound Crysis is not and if you look in tast manager you might only be using not all of the CPU but one core will be high and the rest mid. The game is not made for Intel but Intel is the better processor for gaming and really for this game.

Thank you so much for your answer. Yes the CPU might be the problem. So in your opinion, going over to 64 bit OS from 32 bit will not do anything to solve or reduce those issues?

I belive GW2 now recomends a 64 bit system from some replies of their suport team.
Yes it would help but not with the FPS problems.
EDIT if you are not going to upgrade the processor wich would require CPU, motherboard, memory, mabey drive if you do not have SATA drives, PC case again depending on the PC you have some box store PC’s have weird form factors to keep you from upgrading. Mabey just stick with the other games and not upgrade to windows 7 64bit.

New rig able to play on high ?

zerk.9701

Yeah sure you do on full hd with high graphics sure…. I want a screen shot from a big wvw when you dont drop to 20+ with amd cpu oced so low. Face it the game at its current state need at least 4,5 ghz i5/i7 to stay in 30 fps range in zergs all the time. Everyone can say hey i get 10000+ fps with my wooden cpu or smtn but i say screens or didnt happen. Amd is cheaper generaly and works fine with games that are better programed but hell guild wars just likes 1 strong core so intel is the way to go for this game.

I know what my rig can do, I dont need to SS anything.
as for WvW, I normally get around 40FPS. Everything besides shadows (medium) and reflections (off, don’t like them) is set to high at 1680 × 1050 lol maybe if you did some homework, you would understand you dont need to sepnd $2K to build a good computer =p

fail troll is fail

EDIT
Then again, I dont need a PC that can get me over 100FPS to play a game. 40-60FPS is perfect, for me.

I hear ya bro you sound mad? your old PC will not get 30FPS in a wvw zerg you could probably make a video of it and it would look like a picture.
And my PC is better than yours I get a steady 120 FPS everywhere.
http://ghettocomputers.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/crate1.jpg
But I do agree you do not need a $2000 PC because $850 will run it just fine.

try running a checkdisk on your hard drives via command line http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ee872425.aspx

short easy way to do this.

start>seach “cmd”

rclick the CMD icon and run as admin

in the command window type “chkdsk /f” then Y when it asks if you wana check on reboot.

do this for each drive in your system, example command line would be “chkdsk /f d:” where D is the drive letter just change that and do the check on all drives, only C should need a restart to check.

this will check for errors on your drive.

after doing this, run ccleaner on your system to cleanup any temp files or log files….the junk left over from the act of using windows.

note: also run the regestry cleaner function, it can help, despite what some will say, I have had ccleaner and chkdsk fix many systems/games/apps over the years when others insited a reinstall of the os was needed……20+ years working on computers…..you learn some crazy tricks.

To the OP if you have done this ^^^^^^ then you probably need to reinstall your OS sorry to say that I know it’s a pain. I agree with him that it should of could of fixed it.

i currently have

AMD Athilon X2 7550 processor
6Gb ram
750Gb harddrive
300w power supply
and a geforce 9100 integrated gpu

Was looking to buy a GeForce GTX 660 and a 550w power supply

My question is will this give a boost in fps and play on higher settings

Best advice I can give you without spending a SL of $. I think that is a HP PC you can find your BIOS’s version from this link.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07110&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=4006020&lang=en
Get with HP support and see if your PC will support this processor it’s alot better than you have about x2 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Z68O94/?tag=pcpapi-20
This video card is alot better than having none and cheap only DDR3 but uses 44 Watts should be ok with your power supply. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005V22R0S/?tag=pcpapi-20
To use the new video card you will probably need to set it to default in BIOS maby not some switch auto but not all of the older ones. (link to how do this) Make sure to set this before hooking the monitor up to the video card. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware/Upgrading-the-video-card-HP-p6210y-need-help/td-p/146991
Anouther option is upgrading the processor if it can be with what I listed and getting a better video card and new power supply that can be reused in the future.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202011&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID

First option cost about $135 good performance boost.
Second option around $200 if you get the rebates. Good performance boost limited by the processor.

EDIT if you are not able to upgrade the Processor the top video card I listed will still be better than what you have I would not spend alot of $ on what you have.

How well will this play in:
PvE:
LA:
WvW:

Lots of bad reviews on that motherboard but this is the main one. This is the main complaint beside a large rate of DOA’s with AsRock’s reply. Looks like the same memory your buying.

Cons: RAM – while it “supports” two sticks of memory – you may end up with one being a waste. I had two sticks, put them in for 8Gb of RAM and it would constantly reboot. Pulled one, and viola – it boots. Okay – figured it may be the memory stick. I swap in the other “bad” memory and it works. I put both in, and reboot city… After digging through the documentation it has a warning that it “may not work with some RAM” – wonderful. RAM was identical to what it says it supports, and I find that I can only run with 4Gb – 1 stick of RAM.

Other Thoughts: If I had known it didn’t support all RAM, I would have bought 1 stick of 8Gb RAM, rather than 2 of 4Gb… It would be nice if they said which types work… G.SKILL doesn’t… So, do NOT purchase these with this board: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 × 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL – only 1 stick will work…

I showed him that exact same PSU and I even championed for it just to save him some money. Part of the problem was that he wanted a better system than the one I built for a friend last year so since the friend had 650w he “needed” a 750w. I agree with you though, it would have been better to have saved the money instead of wasting it on something that he’ll never fully appreciate.

Thanks Zerk.

I’ve bookmarked all of the links provided to me so far and I’m not excluding anything from consideration at this point. I really do appreciate the insights.

That’s a decent system with the i5…if I could just get him to commit to a case at that price point. He fell in love with a $90 case and I haven’t been able to talk him out of it…yet. Also, is 450w enough power. I have 850w for my i7 and I know that’s a bit overkill but I was thinking either 650 or 750?

The one I listed will draw about 250 watts during a stress test so about mabey 200 during operation so yes. Thats a quality PSU made by seasonic it’s not overated.
Just to list my specs i5 2500K @ 4.4 H100 CPU cooler with 110CFM fans in push/pull
16GB 2133 ram
6970@ 950/1425
2x SSD’s
1 HHD
TX 850 PSU
during game play it draws a whopping 326 Watts from the Wall as per my Kill-A-Watt meter. So yes 450 Watts is pleanty for that PC
Here are the picks while running GW2 showing the meter.

If you buy a i5 3570k, decent Z77 motherboard, aftermarket CPU cooler, quality PSU, 8GB or memory, 64bit operating system, and a 660ti/7870 video card or higher and have money left then yes a SSD is worth it but do not buy a cheap one I only recomend Samsung. If you do not have the specks listed above then spend the $ on better performing parts.
EDIT Also a SSD can always be added in the future.

The thing is, GW2 is the only problem which is extremely odd. I’m still looking around for answers but I’ll post a fix if I find one.

It’s not ODD to me lower your settings reflections, and shadows this is not the other games so dont compair them. Make sure you have the latest version of directX 9 you can get that at MS web site. Make sure your video card is running at X16 speed.

Hmm, GPU-Z says it’s running at 4x http://i.imgur.com/z41Re.gif

Could this be the problem?

Click the ? next to where you see that it should do a short test it could be just saving power. But it could be installed in the wrong slot or have other issues as you never stated your motherboard. But yes running @ x4 will for sure kill this game. or check it while you are in the game.
