Increasing voltage rarely causes instability unless it overheats.

Secondly OverClocking refers to the Clock rate hence ‘clocking’ ..leaving clocks at stock and fidling with votlages to try and gain stability ..is not OC’ing.

Therefor if someone says they have an unstable system and they have done eveyrthing possible software wise ..and someone sugest voltage tweeks to hardware as a possible fix…it is not a stretch ..nor is it stupid.

^^^^^ This
If you monitor your temps it’s all good. Although in the case of the OP I would remove 2 sticks of ram and try it again then if I still had problems swap them out with the 2 I removed.
This game seems to be very pickey when it comes to ram and no I can not answer why but simple things like timings will give you fits, It will make good ram read bad.

Well, I just had a look at CPU performance of an Ivy Bridge i5-3450, and it doesn’t look like its performance would explain a difference in frame rates of a factor 4, at most a factor of 2 maybe. Which is of course already not small. But yeah, maybe Arenanet should just release official requirement specs..

Their a big change is speed over almost 6 years when your CPU was made maby it’s time to upgrade and the way your PC plays other games has nothing to do with this one.
A simple i3 2100 will perty much just stomp on the old chip you have in gaming.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
And this game just loves to make people cry about their low performing CPU.

Make sure your ram timings are set right in BIOS.
Run memtest if it flages it replace the ram this will not always catch a ram problem.
Loosen the timings on the ram to 10/10/10/26 in BIOS.
EDIT undo any overclocks you have including a preoverclocked video card.

Any chance it might be your CPU ?
In your bios is it runnign the CPU at any default OC at all ?

Just to make sure it isnt a CPU issue you could run Prime95 on a custom blend test(change 4gb ram to 14gb ram in your case) for 12hours to make sure your CPU isnt causing errors.

i only bring it up since its a 2500K and on a gigabyte mothebroard which tends to have inbuilt OC profiles. Also a full OS reinstall tends ot rule out software issues ..usualy.

GB motherboards only OC when you tell them 2

RAM
16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 667MHz (9-9-9-24)
So your running 2 sticks of 1333MHz ram or 4? If it’s 4 was it bought as a quad channel kit or 2 seprate dual channel kits? Is the ram voltage 1.5 or 1.65 V? Does it read the correct timings in BIOS?

First check your HDD for problems (I think this is the issue) use wich ever one you have or windows has a tool.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm
If no problems are found do this.
Create a new shortcut to the GW2.exe (or copy the existing shortcut).
Right-click on that shortcut, select Properties, and in the Target field,
behind the “C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” (or whatever command is there), add -repair (outside of the quotes). So it would become:

“C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair

Run that (and make sure that you have plenty of space available on your drive!)

Just to get my 2 cents in current prices.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202
Intel Core i7-920 $300
Now for the facts I would buy the AMD and OC it and not think nothing about it for any game but this one. For this game in it’s current state and their will be very little changing even with patches I would buy a i3 for close to the same price.
Now for the i5 vs i7 Better prices can be found this is just a example.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504
i5 3570k 6mb L3 cache 4x 256kb L2 cache $230
i7 3770k 8mb L3 cache 4x 256kb L2 cache with Hyper Threading (not used in games) $320 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501
Your not going to get a 29% increase in FPS with the 29% higher cost of the i7 (in fact you will see little if any increase) so the winner is the i5 3570k for the best bang for the buck.

WvWvW is bugged so bad i dont even bother, gotten worse and worse….hope they get it patched up…..but i hope they get the whole game optimized better so it runs more consistently for people across all platforms…..

its part of why i roll my eyes when i see people saying amd cant game when somebody with an amd system posts they have fps issues…..because over half of the complaints are from people with i5 2500k or i7 2600k or better cpu’s and high end videocards….

the real problem is that anet needs to get the game optimized better….i love the game but….its way to inconsistent on similar or even identical systems……

I do belive most of the problems are more on the PC setup or a single week link in the PC (part going bad). The best thing that I hear is update your GPU drivers, I still run AMD 11.12 drivers on my 6970 and never had a problem maby its just more or less just setting the PC up the right way.

your lucky you can play with that onboard video you have…..

2 upgrades I would make to that system, see how far you can upgrade the cpu, i would guess a quad would be the best it can take, upgrade to that, and put a real videocard in the system, you will probably need to stick to a videocard that dosnt need an external power source or also upgrade the psu….

the video on your system is 4200, thats an old onboard video chip ment for production work(typing and internet mostly) not games, the cpu is a lower end dual core phenom2 your really lucky the game plays at all…..sorry to say that but…..something people need to learn is that if you want to play modern games, you need to make sure your systems up to snuff….

with that system, probably an athlon II quadcore would be a better move then trying to find a phenomII quad, and videocard 6670 or 7670 something that dosnt have a power plug on the card, dont go below a *650 tho, lower are productivity cards.

It’s hard to upgrade a notebook:)

I am having the same issue, pc completely freezes. No other choice than to hard restart. It happens, I would say, once every 2 or 3 hours… No error reports, just freezes.

System specs:
ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 × 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
GTX 460 Graphics Card

All Drivers are up to date.
Only Freezes I have experienced with this build has been with Gw2.
Tried to revert back to previous drivers, problem persisted.
Tried to reinstall the game, problem persisted
I have run memory tests, all of which have come back fine.

Pull 2 sticks of your memory out make sure the 2 that are installed are in slot A or what your motherboard calls for when using only 2 sticks play the game if it freezes remove those sticks and install the other 2. Memtest really means nothing to me.

This is bad ram. And no memtest will not always catch it.

Oke guys,

Sorry for waiting so long. Yesterday i bought new ram… Because i can and because this ram looks sexy (nope no real reason). And just to make sure the problem isnt the ram (well maybe a reason, but just to be sure….). Guess what!? IT WAS THE RAM! After buying new ram modules 3 different times (yes its crazy how far ive gone maybe) i finally can play.

It doesn’t matter if i overclock my CPU or GPU, it will keep running like it should. I tried my old ram and the crashes came back.

The weird thing is that this ram isnt even suported by my motherboard. And with a vol overclock (from 1,5 to 1,6v) i got it running. And it runs great!

I gues this doesnt help anyone. And it is still a weird thing. Because i never have crashes, the system runs stable, other games/programs run stable, memtest sees nothing, i could sometimes play fine for weeks, etc, etc.

TL;DR: IT IS FINALLY FIXED. BUT IN A WEIRD WAY!

PS: if someone still wants me to test something else. Just PM me ore leave a post to find out if the problem was something else.

Well not weird to me.

Game keeps crashing not sure the problem.

That link gives an empty basket for me.

Also note that scan tends to be more expensive on alot of things. .not all .but alot ..and they charge delivery.
Novatech.co.uk has free delivery and has low prices. If you buy enough items and spend enough you may even be able to get a little off the price aswell if you contact them.

I myself spent exactly £1,000 with them a few months back which would have cost just under £1100 if i had not got in contact with them by email to secure a deal. I wont guarantee they will do the same for you, but its worth a try. At the time i was trying to contact 4 retailers, 3 replied and only 1 (novatech) was willing to make a deal, so i give them props for customer service

Try it now I dont know alot about the UK prices or where to buy the parts but is a solid build.

Best advise I can give you without being their, uninstall your driver (use a driver sweeper to remove all traces of the old driver) and download driver version 11.12 (I know it works I use it) Install MSI Afterburner and set a custom fan profile to 40C is 40% fan speed and 80C is 100% fan speed then check the box to make it active when the PC starts. Next step if that does not work remove the side of your PC case and make sure the video card fan is moving, turn the PC off and unplug it remove your video card and blow all of the crude/dust out of it with a can of compressed air (hold the fan still when doing this) This could be a power supply going bad also.

A random alarm noise would happen if I’m doing Claw of Jormag, and persists even if I log out to character creation.

My Nvidia drivers are up to date, have a GTX 670, and get upwards of 120 FPS and am using a Corsair H100 for cooling. Before I thought it was a heat problem but I replaced my old V6, because the fan stopped working (even when it worked temps would go up to 65 and with the fan not working temps spiked to past 90, even before then one should turn off the machine) and I don’t overclock. My highest CPU temp (Core “0”) was 55 celsius with the hottest cool core going to 47c today so I know it isn’t a heat issue.

By alarm I guess you mean your motherboard speaker is going off. Limit your FPS to 60 never could figure out why people push their video card to the max and pump all that heat in their PC. Clean your entire PC out with compressed air, hold the fans still when cleaning them, their more items in the PC to overheat than just the CPU/GPU

MOBO and CPU advice

My Rig is pretty old about 5 years, and GW2 made me realize I need some upgrades.

The one thing I need most is a good MOBO/CPU combo. I recently bought a Geforce GTX 550 TI. and I can run GW in Pve Mode on high graphics with little to no lag with my Pentium 4 , running with 4 gigs of DDR2. Again my machine is older lol.

However WvW is a nightmare, I can run through the zone until any pvp action starts, then my frame rate plummets and I dont even see the enemy lol.

Budget is not a problem. So those of you who have Rigs that perform well , please let me know what your using. I am going to NewEgg more than likely to start shopping soon.

Thanks for any advice.

First thing I would do is try WvW again but this time cut all your graphics to low and off EVERYTHING if it has the option to turn it off use it. That 550ti is a really week card.
